Running a company is a delicate beast. No matter how big you become, there's always plenty of opportunities to mess up.
To show that no organization is exempt from making mistakes, TikToker Hannah Baked has been creating videos about the biggest brand fails and disasters that have made headlines. I'm certain that entire PR departments were tasked with covering them up, but even they couldn't hide all the loose ends.
Have you heard that Pringles (accidentally) put laxatives in one of their flavors? Or that Lipton launched a promotion campaign with a loophole that gave people an infinite supply of tea?

In 2017, a passenger was dragged across the aisle of a United Airlines flight. The cause of this was the flight was overbooked and when no one voluntarily chose to leave, they randomly selected someone to give up their seat. The passenger refused to leave and security was called. They forcefully grabbed the passenger and dragged them off the plane. This left the remaining passengers disgusted and they tweeted about the incident which led to United Airlines having to make a public apology and compensate the passenger.
I believe the passenger was a doctor who was flying home to open a free clinic for veterans, and also had patients to see the next day.
It shouldn't have mattered if he was a homeless dude who spent his last dollar to pay for that flight...he paid for it and should have been on that plane.
Load More Replies...That poor man! His facial expression just makes me so sad. This MUST break some law or right or SOMETHING?!
Not security, but Chicago PD. EDIT TO CORRECT: No, I was wrong! CPD got involved in trying to cover up the beating for some reason, but it was in fact airport security. The two primary actors got fired.
So united asked the airport security somehow to forcibly remove a passenger ? The two companies must have had a long case in court to share responsibilities
Load More Replies...The passenger (Doctor David Dao) settled with United Airlines for an undisclosed amount. But it was definitely in the millions of dollars. He used the money to pay his own medical expenses, to provide free healthcare for US military veterans, to provide housing and other necessities for persons displaced by Hurricane Harvey, and to install solar electric systems in villages in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Wow.... Thankzillion for sharing this positive light.
Load More Replies...If I was a passenger that witnessed this, I would have slapped those people in the face. I'm sorry. But stuff like this is unhuman
Lipton tea created a buy one, get one free deal. The problem with this deal is that every box had a free coupon which created a loophole where customers could get an endless supply of tea.
All the Lipton's you want. Which, realistically, is none.
Load More Replies...That's why it's "America's favourite" and not anywhere else. XP jkjk
Load More Replies...Why couldn't twinings have done this? I would love an endless supply of their tea.
Was thinking exactly that. Or Clipper or Pukka for that matter. Nah, if it's too good to be true, it's an endless supply of Lipton instead.
Load More Replies...I'm not quite getting it. Wouldn't it be a loophole of the BOGO deal? So customers would still have to perpetually buy one?
The box you got for free gives you another free box. Then that box gives you another free box. The only box you had to buy was the first one.

P&G received a lot of backlash after their Mother's Day ad that incorporated a woman cleaning and the slogan stating "This Mother's Day, get back to the job that really matters.”
I think the intent was that you get the cleaning done fast with the product, so you can get back to the important job of being a mom, but the execution, of that's what they were going for, was a massive fail.
Because even on mother's day, you're still doing the cleaning. And then getting back to your job.
Load More Replies...I think they meant you would have less cleaning so that you could get back to what really matters. Time with loved ones.
... and YOU would do the cleaning, right? Not anyone else, I assume? Yehaaa... i don't see how that could possibly fail 😆
Load More Replies...Why MR Clean? Why not MRS clean because that's who is still doing it in 2022!!!
Because obviously, women would need a strong, capable man to tell them how it's done. Even when it's cleaning. Obviously... (do I really need to add a "sarcasm, people!"-warning? Seriously, that wasn't obvious?? Okay, added. *SARCASM)
Load More Replies...I think the idea this was supposed to convey is "get your chores done more quickly so you can spend time with your kids." It failed.
Bacardi received a lot of backlash for their slogan stating: "Want to look better this summer? Get your hands on the hotness-boosting accessory now: An ugly girlfriend!"
Alright, ladies, let's play what object are we today? Ooh, what an interesting one! Today we're hotness-boosting accessories!
Is she supposed to be the ugly girlfriend? I think she is a nice looking young lady this company is awful beyond words
She's not ugly in fact. She's fat and that apparently is what counts to the arseholes that concocted this advert.
Load More Replies...That was my first thought. Imagine if that was a stock photo and the first time she knew anything about it was when she saw it, or her family and friends saw it - that's disgusting

The mortgage company better.com organized a Zoom meeting with 900 of their employees. The CEO announced that those 900 employees were all being terminated, stating that if you're on this call, you're part of the unlucky group that has been laid off. The footage of the meeting was posted online which showed employees crying and being shocked by the announcement. The CEO received so much backlash that he had to take time off to reflect.
Oh poor guy, had to take time off to reflect... My god this is so bad.
" The CEO received so much backlash that he had to take time off to reflect." So basically the guy who just fired 900 people took a paid vacation while waiting for things to blow over, and then went back to his cushy job while his former employees struggled to find work.
You're all fired. Now, I'm off to Jamaica with the company jet because firing you was very sad for me. Wish me well!
A couple of years ago I outfitted a conference with video and audio equipement. Very secretive event, no content was shown beforehand. Meeting begins, everybody reveives a shirt with some kind of "All of us together for the company". Turns out they called in all of their logistics employees to tell them they're fired. Never have I been more afraid for my equipement. CEO got spat on and heard some very clear opinions.
He better change the company name from better.com to IAmaShittyInsensitiveAsshole.com.
The video of me would have included shots of me picking up their computer and smashing it, while screaming obscenities.
In 2019, Burberry found themselves facing controversy after their fashion show featured a hoodie with a noose attached to the hood. A model that walked in the show called out the brand on social media stating that "[taking your own life] is not fashion". After receiving a lot of criticism online, they responded by writing a public apology stating that the item was insensitive.
A, yes, let's give children nooses, how could this EVER be a bad idea?
To be fair, i can't see a kid wearing that shirt. But still a bad message to the Golden Girl who might be wearing it
Load More Replies...This isn't the first time where they've done insensitive c**p like this. They also made Columbine and Sandy Hook hoodies with bullet holes in them. I'd say that's even worse
I'd say you are correct. I can't imagine who would let something so awful be made.
Load More Replies...Mine too. The only way this could be worse is if they put that on a black model 😡
Load More Replies...Not only inconsiderate, but that's just an ugly hoodie The colour. the design - everything is just terrible.
True. It's not a bowline hitch, either, though.

So they expected the world to see this and not be upset about it? How did they not expect backlash?
Dolce and Gabbana found themselves receiving a lot of backlash after creating a shoe that stated 'thin is gorgeous’. This angered a lot of fans who tweeted that it wasn't a responsible message and it didn't support inclusivity of all body types. The brand showed no remorse by responding: "Next time, we'll write 'love to be fat and full of cholesterol.'”
Well… If that’s what they said back, they kinda deserve it.
They didn't write "love to be thin and have osteoporosis," so "love to be fat and full of cholesterol" isn't the equivalent. Maybe they should have made a shoe that says "I'm thicc and gorgeous," or maybe (though this might be going a bit too far) shoes don't actually have to idolize any specific body type.
Agreed. Also, the shoes are extremely ugly. When I wrote on my own shoes back in the day they looked better than this & I imagine they cost A LOT less.
Load More Replies...There's a difference between fat and large. Unfit and unhealthy lifestyles shouldn't be promoted, but people come in all shapes and sizes - you can be large, healthy, and very fit.
I come from a family of " giants". I am one of the only females under six foot. My aunt was 6'3". Not fat, LARGE. Wore plus sizes.
Load More Replies...Still incredibly inconsiderate of them and lacking in compassion
Load More Replies...Really, really bad marketing. They cut out a huge swath of potential customers by doing this, then compounded it by making that shitty and cruelly insensitive response. It would’ve been so simple to just leave out all the thin b******t and say “I am gorgeous”. That way, you appeal to every consumer, not just the tiny number of x-rays out there, and sell millions of shoes.
Are those the shoes? Theyve just been scribbled on with marker and a couple of iron on patches glued on 😳
D&G is a hugely problematic company. It's like they are deliberately causing s**t all the time.
In 2021, Burger King decided to tweet out "Women belong in the kitchen." This happened to be on International Women's Day. They received a lot of backlash from Twitter users pointing out that the tweet was sexist. They then replied to the backlash by stating that ‘they wanted to encourage women to take up a culinary career.'
This was the first twit, the second one they talked about culinary careers and how women are only a low % and that they wanted to help, launching a scholarship.... HOWEVER, all the info were in the second and third twit. Very. Bad. Pausing.
This isn't an accurate description of what happened, since they immediately continued the thread with "If they want to, of course. Yet only 20% of chefs are women. We're on a mission to change the gender ratio in the restaurant industry by empowering female employees with the opportunity to pursue a culinary career." It's not like they were trying to be sexist.
The problem there, though, is that you can't be sure that readers will see the follow up tweets. Each tweet has to be viewed as its own entity, especially now, as people love to react to the very first thing they see without digging any deeper.
Load More Replies...No, this is a gross misrepresentation. The original intent always was to encourage female chefs and cooks to join their workforce, and it was abundantly clear in the following tweets. This first tweet was a hook to generate traffic, and well - it worked.
The mistake was assuming that people would see or bother to read the following tweets, especially since they didn't put in the "1/5" indicator to note that the tweet wasn't standalone. People love to react to the first thing they see on social media. That's not new information.
Load More Replies...Never realized that working at Burger King counted as “culinary expertise.” 🙄
A fat-free version of Pringles was produced and was successful until customers reported stomach cramps. This was because the ingredient used as a fat substitute actually had a laxative effect.
I mean, I like pringles better than laxatives... so if I ever need to make myself go I'll have a tasty way to do it.
Ah yes, those an@l leakage olestra chips from the good old days of the 80s.
I remember this. This is a #1 reason to read the labels & educate yourself on ingredients, especially for low fat, no fat, and sugar free products - many of the substitute ingredients can cause distressing & serious side effects. Sorbitol in sugar free products will also have a laxative effect & lead to dehydration, plus explosive diarrhea.
Reminds me of the infamous Haribo sugar free gummy bears.
Load More Replies...Then they sold the formula to Lays, who got sued for it. I used to work for Pringles as an engineer. We realized it was going to be an issue early.
I wonder if it was Olestra. I remember several chips maker using that for low or no fast versions. Sadly due to its chemical makeup, I believe olestra is not digested or absorbed by the body. So, it caused abdominal cramping and loose fatty stools for some :(
Oh my goodness! I remember this! We used to laugh about that in middle school 😆 I couldn't remember why I've always loved saying oily discharge for side effects for everything until you just reminded me 😂
Load More Replies...Anytime food companies start advertising the removal of ingredients in an effort to appeal to trending phobias, they replace it with stuff that’s usually more unnatural and unhealthy. Examples include msg, sugar, gluten, fats.
Domino's faced backlash after their employees filmed and uploaded a series of videos with them shoving cheese up their nose and wiping their body with cloth meant for cleaning. After it went up on YouTube, millions of people watched it which resulted in the CEO seeing it as well. The employees ended up getting fired and charged with felonies for food contamination.
I'm focused more on the "charged with felonies" part. They're never going to work a legit job anywhere ever again, which is fine by me, but a little prison time is in order as well. (Just don't let 'em pull kitchen duty, warden.)
Load More Replies...Surely the backlash should be at the employee not the employer in this case
The employees represent the business and when people see an employee pull c**p like this they wonder how many other employees are doing the same thing.

Muppets like these give all the honest workers, fighting for better wages, a bad name.
The fashion company Oh Polly set up a competition for NHS workers where the winner would receive a care package and clothing for a virtual party. When the winner couldn't attend the event because they were working a 12-hour shift, Oh Polly retracted the prize. The winner was obviously upset and tweeted about it which created outrage among Twitter users. This resulted in Oh Polly having to apologize and give the winner their prize.
They held an event for NHS workers and didn't consider that some might be working?
Cocktail evening Event at 4pm on a Friday, finished before 7:30pm?? Who's free for that, especially when it's for the overworked NHS workers? I'm really glad to know that the winner got the prize after all!
And just on a Zoom meeting. Blah. Probably just an mlm meeting with everyone wearing a dress and maybe having their cameras on. She would have probably been the only one wearing a dress.

TRESemme received backlash after creating a campaign that featured different hair types with titles at the bottom labeled 'frizzy and dull' and 'dry and damaged' where the two photos of the blonde hair are labeled 'normal hair' and 'find them flat.' The advertisement ended up getting cut as many people were outraged and labeled TRESemme racist and extremely insensitive.
I bet during the development of this campaign they were patting themselves on the back for including 50% poc models
I guarantee there was not 1 curly haired or black person in the room when this bs was approved
It was FINE & FLAT not FIND EM FLAT. If you are going to criticise something at least quote it correctly
"Want beautiful hair? Just... be white!" Ew... Thick hair like the top ones is just as gorgeous and the stuff below. If you want to focus on unhealth hair vs healthy maybe show actually unhealthy hair?
I'm as pale as they come. I don't tan, just burn. My hair is wavy, prone to frizz, is not blond. It does what it wants and I've learned to love it. This is like the hairstyles I pull up to find a new look. Straight hair that's been curled. My hair is not that. Then the product line commercials. Here is a straight hair all messy, now here is her hair styled. Poof it's for curly hair! Um no. I agree other types are gorgeous too.

This is super common with natural curls. Real* curls. Not three weeks ago, my boingy curled toddler (who got her texture from me) had an old lady IN CHURCH comment on her hair needing to be brushed?!? It was brushed, alright. It just doesn't need to be blowdried, ironed, and "curled" with half a pound of products to not be boring
In 2016, Samsung had to stop all sales of the Galaxy Note 7 after customers reported that their phones were overheating and catching on fire. Samsung reacted by sending out multi-layered fireproof boxes with packing instructions.
I still remember this and the note 2/s3 incident… im scared of using samsungs after seeing the s22 explode…
I knew someone this happened to. He had the phone in his pocket. Serious 3rd degree burns on his leg. He was diabetic and had issues with wounds not healing correctly. He almost died, and he had to be under relatives' care for months. Horrible.
Keep in mind plenty of iPhones have exploded too. Difference is, Apple and apple fans try to downplay it.
i... you. are my role model now. if i could make this the very first comment i would

Dell and Thinkpads in the early / mods 00’s were known for batteries that caught fire due to a design defect in the batteries. To be fair the batteries were outsourced to a 3rd party vendor Dell and IBM didn’t design them
Load More Replies...This isn't about Samsung, but phones in general. My husband took his case off just last week, and didn't notice this because the case concealed it well, but the battery had started swelling. Every so often make sure you're checking these things - he has a new phone now thankfully, but it definitely was scary to see how swollen the battery had gotten! We never would have noticed without him removing the case.
Seems the iPhone has a similar issue when they first released the plus size from the bending body. Also, the fact that it isn't American had no standing seeing as almost all smartphones are assembled in Asia anyway, if not designed as well
They have changed their whole ethos in regards to batteries now. They glue them down like they want them to stick for 1000 years. Pain in the backside to replace.
McDonald's created a Twitter campaign encouraging followers to use the hashtag #McDStories to share an experience they've had with the company. The problem with the campaign was that it left Twitter users posting their McDonald's horror stories, with some of their stories consisting of fingernails and hospitalization.

In 2020, Singapore Airlines launched a campaign called Flight To Nowhere. They planned to do three-hour-long flights where passengers could enjoy a meal in the sky with a view. This received a lot of backlash from environmentalists as the flights had no purpose for travel. Singapore Airlines responded by changing the campaign to dining in a plane parked on the tarmac.
Did somebody tell them that people fly for the expierience of airline food eaten with plastic cutlery in a cramped seat? Plus the whole airport b******t? I can't belive they've managed to take all of the negatives about flying, remove the one positive of being transported somewhere else quickly, and (presumably) sell it to someone. It's like diamonds of 2020.
I mean, if they throw in a deal where I can enter all areas on the aircraft, explain the various safety features, try out the emergency slide, etc. But then I'm nuts over aircraft.
Load More Replies...Meanwhile during the pandemic there was the scandal of frequent flights empty of passengers simply so the airlines could retain their allocation of landing slots.
This. The behaviour of the airlines and associated industries during the pandemic was a perfect example of how climate change action has been pushed onto individuals while the true causes are allowed to continue unchecked.
Load More Replies...Actually, as an airline worker, I can say that this wasn't stupid. Pilots and crew must accrue flying hours to keep their licence active and planes have to be flown as maintenance for a stationary aircraft is actually higher than for flying aircraft. During the pandemic a lot of airlines were moving aircraft around for no reason, just to keep the equipment and crew active. And a few airlines decided to sell seats to accrue some revenue which really only makes sense.
Eh.. that's not that bad.. they meant to do good and that honestly sounds kinda nice
How exciting. On a tarmac for three hours. The plane was providing an experience for those who wanted it, just as Disneyland and hundreds of other needless excitements.
During the pandemic planes in Europe had to fly empty to secure landing and take off rights. It's even worse. Here's an arricle that explains why: https://www.wired.com/story/airplanes-empty-slots-covid/
Victoria's Secret uploaded a photo on their Instagram where their model was missing an arm. When their followers started calling them out on their Photoshop, they quickly deleted the post.
If they want to show diverse models, why not just hire an actual disabled model? It just makes more sense!
It's not about diversity. The arm was probably moved to a new layer in photoshop so they could slim down the model and change her breast size, and they forgot to put that layer back to visible before publishing the photo.
Load More Replies...But it would have been ironic for people to complain to find out the model actually is missing her left arm
Too bad they took it down, though. Everybody knows - and the few who doesn’t needs to be made aware - that models are photoshopped beyond all belief. Why be dishonest about it?
It’s an obvious photoshop too—-the sleeve of the missing arm just looks like it’s got an invisible arm in it. Besides, don’t most insurance plans cover prosthetics these days? If not, aren’t there organizations that can help provide them? I hope those questions don’t sound insensitive. It’s just an area I have no experience with, so I don’t know. But I would think any decent society would at least make sure everyone has access to such services if they want them. So I apologize if I sounded insensitive.
In 2013, EHRs conducted a random food test on IKEA Swedish meatballs and found traces of horsemeat. This was reported back to IKEA and they reacted by doing a mass recall. The horsemeat scandal had massive repercussions as a lot of customers were hesitant to eat at IKEA after that.
Correct. It also has a food court and is known for their Swedish meatballs.
Load More Replies...True, I don't get it - we'll happily eat lambs, cows, etc but not horses. Why? Because they are cute (see: lambs)?
Load More Replies...It wasn’t just IKEA, lots of products, from many different manufacturers, contained horse meat.
They found horse meat in a lot of things at that time here in Germany and the UK
Also in Czech rep. (Ikea, frost food producing company Nowaco, etc).
Load More Replies...Btw, horsemeat is delicious, it's a bit "sweeter" than the common meats people are used to. It's used mostly for making stews, sausages, or yeah, meatballs;). Of course, let the people know, what kind of meat they are eating.
Maybe, but I’ve never even heard of it being done in Sweden. And I live here and have been subjected to a lot of meatball recipes in my life. Hell, horse is expensive. So if they want it to be specifically “swedish meatballs”, it’ll be sort of incorrect to put horse in it. Then they should probably skip the “swedish” part.
Load More Replies...I mean, tbf, I'd probably have still ate them. They're delicious.
Load More Replies...If you eat meat, what f*****g difference does it make if it's horse, pig, cow...?
It does make a difference... I don't eat cats, dogs, rabbits, ducks, lamb etc
Load More Replies...We (Netherlands) had something similar with either frikandellen or hamburgers. I don't get what the fuss was. Ok, sure, they can't feed you things you don't know about, but aside from that, you've been eating the stuff and enjoying it for a long time already. How is it worse to eat a horse than it is a cow or pig? Horse meat is a very common meal item
US Airways found themselves in controversy after tweeting a p**nographic image to a complaining customer by accident. The photo was up for an hour before they removed it. They ended up having to make a public apology and stated that they would investigate the issue.
Lmaoooo, they are an airline company and they posted a photo of a woman using an airplane on herself. I can't believe this actually happened
It makes you wonder about the employees in their PR department.
Load More Replies...Well there are two kinds of people...people who have list/detail view in their file explorer, and those who have thumbnail view. If you're one of the former, and aren't careful about where you save your non work related files, it's plausible.

I have a twisted mind, and now I wonder if the photo means "go screw yourself"....
If we take it literally then shouldn't that be "screw you"? Since it's their plane doing the screwing.

Dolce and Gabbana launched three short videos on social media to promote a runway show they were having in Shanghai. The video incorporated a Chinese woman trying to eat Italian dishes with chopsticks while a voiceover tried to teach her how to eat. This received a lot of backlash for being racist, and the video ended up getting taken down within 24 hours. The drama wasn't over yet though, as Stefano Gabbana got exposed for calling China a country of ‘five poo emojis’. Gabbana claims that his account was hacked and they both ended up having to make a public apology.
Because it's a company run by racist elitist scumbags
Load More Replies...Aside from being racist, how dumb. There's no difference between italian noodles & Asian noodles as far as chopsticks go. The only time I -or any other Asian I know- would use a fork instead of chosticks for spaghetti is if we're not at home.
Self loathing rich white gay men attacking other marginalized groups (including LGBT+ is sadly a very real thing.
Why not do the opposite and have the Italians being taught to eat with chopsticks? Especially since, as a guest in someone else’s country, self-deprecating humor obviously goes over so much better than insult humor. I mean, I’m pretty sure the Chinese model already knows how to eat spaghetti with a fork, so that was just insulting. But I will bet that not many Italians know how to eat Chinese noodles (you know, the original form of pasta noodles that Marco Polo stole and took back to Italy) with chopsticks, as it is a skill that takes a load of practice to master.
So far I’ve seen Dolce and Gabbana twice on this list, what do they even do?
This is phenomenally stupid generally, but doubly so because chopsticks are great for noodles.
Burger King produced a meatless burger in 2019 called the Impossible Whopper. They marketed the burger to be an alternative option for vegans and vegetarians. The problem with the burger was that it was cooked on the same grill as the meat patties which removed the option for vegetarians and vegans to even eat the burger. But some customers did eat them without knowing, which resulted in Burger King being sued for misleading their customers.
That's not strictly true. A lot of people choose vegetarian options for environmental reasons these days and they don't mind the contamination. Those people were eating the burgers. Though in general I agree that the idea was stupid and misleading people about what they're about to eat is a shitty thing to do.
Yes.... but... there's two problems you're completely missing. Pretty major ones. One: There are people who are allergic to red meat. They might think that product would be safe to eat. Two: People who have been strict vegetarians or vegans for a prolonged period of time can no longer digest the proteins in meat... meaning they can get really sick if they eat it without knowing. So... yes. Big issue.
Load More Replies...The Burger King's I've worked for in the past had a separate cooking area for their veggie patties, did they not do the same thing for the impossible? That's dumb
I am a vegetarian and not that delicate. I know people are not going to set up a whole grill for one product. I appreciate people, are actually putting out options.
Most places do prepare their meatfree products on separate cooking areas. But Burger King sadly is not one of those places :/
Load More Replies...I am not vegetarian/vegan but I often pick the impossible meat options. I think its the direction food is going, for environmental and eventually financial reasons.
I too am not a vegetarian but enjoy the impossible burgers. I get them to make at home all the time. They're quick and very tasty and ridiculously nutritious. And sometimes I even put bacon on em!!
Load More Replies...Not only was there cross-contamination, was the hamburger bun vegan? If they have refined sugar, technically they are not - refined sugar is processed with bone char - from cattle bones.
Vegetables aren't necessarily cruelty-free either, lots of dead animals are deemed as "pests and rodents". All depends where you draw the line.
Load More Replies...Can 100% confirm this as I worked there at the time, I brought this up with my manager who told me that I wasn't to say anything unless asked.if I was asked I was told to lie and say they were cooked separately and away from the meat, I refused to do this so was "let go".
Thanks for caring and sorry to hear you had an unethical manager.
Load More Replies...Vegetarian does not equal vegan. Vegans are the ones who insist on purity of no animals being used in any part of the food process.
Probably improved the flavor. Nothing like real meat to improve the flavor of meatless dishes.
Domino's advertised a campaign stating "Calling all nice Karen's". This campaign allowed women named Karen to receive a free pizza if they were a pleasant customer. The problem with this campaign was that it received a lot of complaints and ended up getting pulled.

In an ad for the margarine brand Flora, a photo of a heart and a statement "Uh, dad, I'm gay" was used. This received a lot of criticism for being homophobic.
Margarine is marketed as Heart Healthy, that's why there's a heart in the image. It's homophobic because it states your child being gay would "break your heart".
WTF does being gay have to do with margarine?? These are two incredibly different things
Lubrication is important? Sorry, sorry - seeing myself out now! (but still - lube is your friend!)

This doesn't really describe it that well - the "Dad I'm Gay" statement is shaped like a bullet aimed at the heart. How could ANYONE on their marketing team think this was okay? This isn't a mistake, it is blatantly and purposefully homophobic.
In 2017, Kendall and Kylie Jenner tried to sell T-shirts featuring deceased rappers and Ozzy Osbourne. They were called out on Twitter for being disrespectful and trying to profit off of using the icons. The T-shirts ended up getting pulled and Kendall Jenner responded by stating that the designs were not well thought out and apologized.
I really wish the Kartrashians would just go away. I've never watched their show, never will, and I rarely read anything about them.

When it came on, I thought my TV was broken and maybe picking up someone's home security camera I felt quite worried for them and turned off as it seemed very rude to continue watching them. When I told my husband, he laughed for ages
Wrong brand of Cardys ,Alice. Now I'm wondering what the Cardassians would think of the Kardashians...

ColourPop received backlash after the release of their sculpting sticks. The cause of the backlash was the names given to the three darkest shades. The names were titled "Yikes", "Typo" and "Doom". This offended a lot of ColourPop's customers and they deemed ColourPop to be racist. ColourPop reacted by apologizing and changing all of the names.
hold up, but the light shade is "re friend?" seriously? So THAT'S ok, but the rest aren't? and those are literally eye shadows not friggin foundation. God people are ridiculous.
I think they're contour makeup. So the darker shades are intended for darker skin. (Also, the shade range wasn't great.)
Load More Replies...While some commenters on here consider this petty, consumers have a right to call a company out when they perceive slight and discrimination. It isn't abt intent, it is abt impact. Also, when you are not in the demographic of the aggrieved, it is very easy to say that this is silly...bcs you don't have to deal with it. Discrimination and skin shade have a direct relationship. If you are going to sell something, you have to take the whole market into consideration...it also helps if you bring in some focus groups to help with naming your product.

Still, why would anyone call a shade "yikes" or "typo"? I would want to see the names of the lighter shades to see if they all had such stupid names or just the dark ones.

Safety Warehouse advertised a PR event where they promised to do a cash drop of $100,000. More than 1,000 people went to the event expecting to collect the money, but instead collected retail vouchers that looked like $5 notes. This left people outraged as they reported being trampled on and spending a lot of money to even get to the event.
This was in Auckland, New Zealand. Tickets were limited to 1,000 so in theory each person would get around $100. Some people reported travelling hundreds of kilometres and spending hundreds of dollars to participate, not sure how much they thought they would get? The companies version was they threw out $100,000 in cash mixed with fake discount vouchers but when reported in the news no one they interviewed got any cash, and of course the media is always unbiased and doesn't report only the news they want you to hear
Agree with all but the last part (our media is biased but in this particular instance they reported what they saw, and regardless, the company grossly misrepresented the promotion). Plus you forgot to mention this was during lockdown when hundreds had been laid off their jobs and were desperate for money. If you have never been in the position that you would consider travelling for money, put that down to privilege and luck, and don't bag people who aren't in the same position, and who might make different decisions than you as a result.

Gucci found themselves in controversy after designing a jumper that got criticized for resembling blackface. The piece retailed for $890 and was part of their autumn/winter collection. Gucci responded by removing the piece from their collection and apologizing stating that 'they are committed to increasing diversity.'
Whoever said creepy was the new cute was seriously disturbed.
Load More Replies...It's not blackface; it's horrid, and makes you look like a hijacker, not a POC
Well, i would say the original “blackface” atrocity didn’t look like a POC either. So….
Load More Replies...Maybe not all blackface, but certainly those picaninny caricatures with the pitch black skin and the bright red lips, that they used to reproduce in minstrel shows and the likes. Either way, it's ugly and it looks pretty uncomfortable as well.
Which is pretty much a spot on description of blackface
Load More Replies...To be honest, I wouldn’t think many people would buy that anyway. It isn’t the most stylist thing in the first place, and &890!?
You might be surprised to hear that people who spend that kind of money, buy it for the designer label, not so much for the looks

In 2013, Burger King's Twitter account got hacked. A hacker decided to change the Burger King logo to the McDonald's logo. They also tweeted out racial slurs and lies about the company. One of the tweets stated that Burger King had been sold to McDonald's. Another tweet stated "If I catch you at Wendy's, we're fighting!" Burger King responded by asking Twitter to suspend their account and making a public apology on their Facebook page.
If I were able to hack the twitter account of a mega-corp like Burger King, I would have come up something better than that c**p. Oh the opportunity squandered. Why not do something good? Like "At Burger King we recognize the value of our employees. Therefore, effective immediately, the new minimum wage is $21.00/hr". This could have sparked a dialogue as they tried to backtrack it.
I mean it seemed like a somewhat lighthearted joke with the McDonalds logo until I saw the part about racial slurs :/
In 2016, KFC found themselves receiving a lot of backlash after publishing this image that stated "Something hot and spicy is coming soon.” Clearly, they posted the image to get people talking, which it did because the post went viral. The post was only up for an hour before they removed it as the comments stated that the image was inappropriate and misogynistic.
It's neither inappropriate, nor misogynistic. It's a blurred out bucket of chicken, people are making assumptions on their own and then getting upset for what they assume. The fact that you're offended for the sake of being offended is a you problem.
KFC deliberately designed the picture for that assumption. It's not like people just coincidentally assumed that.
Load More Replies...Women are always the targets of sexual jokes That's the point. That's why it feels misogynistic. I'm not so offended that I'm going to boycott KFC, but this is a juvenile, old, stale trope, and IMO, not a good look for advertising some chicken.

Jensen Karp, a comedian, claimed that he found sugar-coated shrimp tails in his box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The tweet ended up going viral and a spokesperson for the company stated that they would start investigating the issue. After the investigation, they claimed that the shrimp tails were actually cinnamon and sugar clumped together. Jensen Karp ended up tweeting that he felt gaslighted by their investigation. The company then offered to send out an envelope to return the alleged shrimp tails for forensic investigation. He then went on to tweet that the cereal box had already been opened and it was taped down the bottom which led Cinnamon Toast Crunch to conclude that the box had been tampered with.
Nope, look into it, it’s legit. He actually found shrimp tails in his cereal. How they got in there is still being speculated on as far as I know!
Load More Replies...It appears no one read the thread on this one from ages ago. Let me summarize: he found (2) shrimp tails and some weird black dots + some string. People on Twitter investigated, (as much as they could. Bcus it is online after all) and it was decided that a mouse must have used that grouping of toast crunch as a den, pooping and bringing things it finds interesting into it. (Hence the shrimp + string)
Note that at last check, this is still ongoing. Both the company and the person had a tail sent off for analysis with neither test yet returned. More than shrimp tails were involved (rodent faeces were also present baked into the food), there were two bags in the box, the box wasn't taped shut but one of the two bags was - and was not the tail one.
I'm sorry but I feel like I would notice a hole in the box before buying it especially if a mouse got into it and pooped. Unless the mouse was from his own house and in that case that's his responsibility.
Instead of getting upset over shrimp tails, read the ingredients and get upset over the @rap cereal you are feeding your kids.
In 2014, to celebrate Sephora's first Australian store, they started a hashtag called #countdowntobeauty. The problem with their tweet was that it had a typo and misspelled the word 'count’. The tweet left Twitter users accusing Sephora of intentionally leaving out the 'o' for publicity.
I would think this would increase sales in Australia. Or at the very least cause more giggles than offense.
They probably did find it hilarious, but the american "standards and practices" police are always standing at the ready, killing joy and smiles because someone didn't feel the best they could feel about something, somewhere

Tropicana released an advertisement encouraging parents stressed out by the pandemic to solve their problems by making Mimosas. They received a lot of backlash for endorsing a dangerous message that people should drink their way through the pandemic. They ended up having to remove the ad for promoting alcoholism.
I honestly don't see a problem with this as long as the "mimosas" are drunken in moderation but wdIk?
Yeah they're suggesting A drink. If the parents then go and binge mimosas all day to solve their problems then that's their own damn fault. Not the company.
Load More Replies...So, Tropicana can't show alcohol on their ads. Hundreds of liquor companies can, though.
They weren't the only company pushing booze. I noticed a huge amount of products doing exactly that, especially t-shirts from all the fast fashion companies!
And there was something like a 70% increase in alcohol/bottle shop ads too.
Load More Replies...In the country I live, at the beginning of the pandemic, the Minister of Health had to make a public speech to tell people to slow down on the booze, that he understood we were in difficult times but that we needed to still take care of ourselves not only on covid related care
How is this an issue? As a recovering alcoholic, I now want all: commercials, movie shots etc where booze is involved banned.. geez
As a person with absolutely no problem with alcohol, I still think we should ban booze-commercials. because alcohol is a cell-poison that has no "safe amount". It kills cells. we also don't advertise for heroin and banned cigarette-commercials, after all. But that said, as long as we don't do that, this commercial is not really awful
Load More Replies...This is ironic considering I see beer and alchohol commercials on tv and billboards all the time.
I think this is a great ad...no different than other ads which include alcohol. I think they would have been OK if they had included the blurb "drink responsibly"
Yeah....even my parents were drunks, but I still don’t judge people who have a drink now and then, and don’t overdo it. God created alcohol to take off the edge, and it does the job well.
I grew up with an alcoholic father, & many other family who were drunks. Both of my brothers are recovered alcoholics, but I rarely drink, altho I do like a Pina Colada now & then! But these overly sensitive snowflakes being all outraged that an orange juice producer DARE to suggest mixing booze with the juice is too much. It's not like everyone's going to serve mimosas to their kids!
Load More Replies...OK, after spending a good chunk of this post agreeing with most, I've ended up here and now think people are being too sensitive and were trying to be offended by everything. It's literally saying to take a moment, not drink all day every day.
Vodafone found themselves in controversy after a customer service employee tweeted a homophobic message on the company's Twitter account. He tweeted, 'Vodafone UK is fed up of dirty homos and is going after beaver.' The employee ended up getting suspended and Vodafone had to make a public apology.
Well, you can't "fire" someone in Europe for just any reason. And yes I aggree, he should have been fired. Depending on the contract of course, there are only a small number of reasons your contract can be terminated immediately. 🤔 But I think this would be one of these reasons.
Load More Replies...Suspended. That means the managers (the David Brents) thought it was funny and didn't want to fire a 'mate', but had to be *seen* taking *action.* People seem to get fired in the States for much less things than this (so BP/Reddit informs us on here all the time).
Does it mean that? Not that he was suspended to determine if they can fire him for this without breaking contract? I mean... if I'm thinking of firing someone, I'd definitely first remove him from his post and then check with legal what can be done.
Load More Replies...That's nothing! One of the top VF managers was going to be visiting the Scottish call centre in Glasgow and he thought it was hilarious to make a video of himself wearing a tartan bonnet with an orange wig and doing a Russ Abbot "see you jimmy" impression. This video was then sent to all UK staff. When people pointed out that it was highly offensive VF responded with absolute silence and completely ignored every single complaint about it!
Kraft launched a marketing campaign on National Noodle Day to promote mac and cheese. They encouraged their followers to send 'noodes' to their loved ones during the pandemic to make them smile. They ended up getting a little backlash from Twitter users stating that the campaign was highly inappropriate. Kraft ended up having to take down their tweets.
That's a clever play with words and not bad at all - but everybody in marketing should know that Twitter is full of people that see world ending issues where ever they look.
God yes, that's the impression I get, too. I am not on twitter, but even the parts that leak through are making me want to smash phones. So everyone's better off with me not being on twitter

This brand fail was caused by bad timing. Airbnb launched a campaign named ‘Floating World’. This was around the time that Hurricane Harvey hit Houston.
It does look amazing....and there's always a flood, or a death, or a hurricaine or some kind of tragedy somewhere in the world. 24/7/365 and there is always, always going to be someone crying about being offended because they make connections that exist only in their mind where everyone then responds by validating this nonsense and giving them undue attention which just encourages more of the same claims each and every time it happens.
Ouch. I remember when there was the big tsunami in Thailand and this upcoming German pop-band "Juli" hat a hit called "Perfekte Welle". Good thing they didn't sink with it, just because the timing was bad. You just can't predict things like that!
Pretty Little Thing found themselves in controversy after tweeting their support for Black Lives Matter. They tweeted, "We understand we have a duty of care to talk about topics other than just fashion and lifestyle news." The problem wasn't with the tweet, but the image that depicted a jet black hand. The tweet received a lot of comments asking Pretty Little Thing to take down the image and fire the people responsible.
I dunno, this tweet isn't that bad. I mean, the symbol for #BLM is a jet black fist, after all.
people can be so literal. color black doesnt always mean racist
Load More Replies...This is stupid. BLM logo is literally a black fist, the same color. But somehow i'm always the AH for pointing out that c**p like this feels a lot like bullying and manipulation tactics.
"Fire the people responsible." Stop listening to Twitter for the love of God
It seems this is just someone looking to complain about something regardless of if it's a legitimate reason.
I'm always trying to learn, so here goes. Maybe the point is they made the white person's hand similar to actual white skin tones (the white person's hand is almost my skin tone) and made the black hand jet black. Perhaps they should have made the white hand white or the black hand brown, and it would have drawn a lot less criticism. This could be interpreted that they tried to get the white person's skin tone correct and really didn't care to bother with the black person's skin tone. With that said, I'm really liberal and inclusive but some liberals on Twitter seem to complain about everything and it makes us look bad. I do not know one leftist in real life who gets as worked up about things as much as people on Twitter do. My family, friends, and I laugh at the extreme reactions on Twitter because they are so different than liberals in real life. Twitter is not real life. Keep that in mind.
Yeah, that could be the problem. Although I'd say that if the black hand was representing the blm-movement with the black fist, the 'realistic' white hand would mean that the white (real) people should stand with the movement in support - and not just shake the hand of some dark-skinned person. So I honestly think this is pretty good. About the "liberals" on Twitter... I'm really not sure if a lot of them aren't just there to stir s**t up or are otherwise feeling completely irrelevant in life and want to give their live some spark? "At least I'm important online and people know my name!!"? IDK.
