This 8-Year-Old Was Bullied For 2 Years While Growing His Hair Long To Make Wigs For Kids With Cancer
2 and a half years ago, then-6-year-old Christian McPhilamy decided to grow his hair long. He was teased at school and often mistaken for a girl, but he never changed his mind because he had a very special goal – to donate 10-inch-long locks of his hair to make wigs for children being treated for cancer.
When he was 6, McPhilamy, who lives in Florida, was inspired by a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital advertisement that he saw on TV. “Some people tried to call me a girl,” McPhilamy told Florida Today. He said this made him feel “not very good,” but that never stopped him from completing his mission and donating his hair to Children With Hair Loss.

Christian McPhilamy endured bullying for 2 1/2 years to grow his hair long for a very special purpose
He wanted to donate it to make wigs for kids suffering from cancer
Some kids teased him and called him a girl when they saw his hair
Even adults tried to encourage him to cut his hair…
…But most apologized when he refused and explained his mission
The bullying made Christian feel “not very good,” but that didn’t stop him!
After 2 1/2 years, his parents cut off his hair in 4 10-inch ponytails and donated them to Children With Hair Loss
Christian is an excellent example for each and every one of us!

Share on FacebookWhat a beautiful soul!! Thumbs up to the parents who raised him right.
I guess lots of people (including me) wouldn't have balls for doing that.. You have earned my respect!
My son did the same thing...for 3 year (11-14) he was called all sorts of nasty names and bullied mfrom kids to their parents. And even after explaining there was no apologies just nasty looks and sneers. Ima very proud father and I will say my son is my hero! Too bad we all are not more like these young men.
to the parents who raised such an amazing chid: you have my respect! to the boy: I hope you feel the love we send to you! well done, amazing soul, well done!!!
You have a heart of gold, Christian. You are a very special young man! What concerns me though it what is wrong with the other children and adults who made comments and teased Christian. Even if he wasn't doing it for charity, children should be able to look the way the want without ridicule!
What a kid! What parents, too. Why can't this go viral, rather than the Kardashian c**p with which we are inundated?
Good for him, but who the hell bullies a boy for long hair? You see boys with long hair all the time in the UK. US in the wrong century ...
An inspirational child & more mature than many adults...and to endure bullying to achieve his aim is just extraordinary.... an old & beautiful soul inside & out... he's well named too Well done Christian <3 <3 <3
My son was also bullied. Even by a long time friend> I can't tell you how many times he was called or mistaken as a girl. Good thing he has a great sense of humor! Kudos to this other young man for doing the right thing. https://www.facebook.com/ed.thornhill/media_set?set=a.614773515211397.1073741839.100000362616530&type=3
The length of his project shows how devoted and kindhearted he is. Thank you, little fellow, you made me not lose all faith in humanity today. Your bright smile is nothing compared to your shining personality. Keep up (also kudos to the parents!)
Well done Christian, your strength and consistancy is amazing! Keep it up!
Thank you Christian. My son will lose his hair in the next few weeks due to relapsed Leukemia and the chemotherapy he must endure for the next 3.5 years. While he may not wear a wig, your strength and courage will help 4 beautiful kids; just like you, feel a little better about themselves. I'm sure you've learned that what other people think doesn't matter; it about what God, your parents and your GOOD friends think. Karma or Beshert is an amazing thing. May you be blessed with a good life, always with good friends you can count on; a life of happiness, good health, and the strength to always do the right thing; even when the "crowd" is going the opposite direction. Thank you again for being a Brave, Strong, Lion!
My fiance is doing the same thing, and has already caught a great deal of cruel comments at his workplace. I myself suffered from cancer and lost my hair at a young age, and now I'm growing it to donate as well. Thank you to this beautiful example of a big heart, and thank you to his parents for making the battle a little easier on those sweet souls fighting every day.
Wouldn't it be great if a school did this as a school project? Great learning opportunity
You have a heart of Gold and I hope you are forever rewarded for your generosity.
I have some pretty long hair and I’m mistaken for a girl but you young man are a valuable person.
Guys who really have hair fall out, I want to recommend a laser cap from https://www.grivamax.com/. This cap activates microcirculation and lymphatic flow. Therefore, our hair begins to grow. I only use it for one week. But I am already very pleased with the result.
you are truly a man,, tough ,,loyal to his mission and undaunted. Hat's off to you.
Such a great story. I look forward to the time when people won't be judged or treated according to their gender characteristics. "Androgynous" carries baggage, but really in the final analysis, awesomeness and gorgeousness have no gender.
and at the end, he poses with gender specific articles such as blue and baseball. This kid knows how society works.
I wonder how he feels about his hair now, I bet his head is cold! Awesome job little man!
What a great gesture for him to do.There should be more children out there doing the same thing. He is truly an inspiration for all children.
it takes a lot to get through being bullied ,let alone not give up ,and he did both better than anyone else !
Someone came into this world to be a giver!God bless you brave little one!<3 Courage is fire and bullying is smoke!
Little Dude, You are a true example of humanity. Grownups should learn from your actions instead of following their own hypocrisy.
Good for him! What a brave lad to go through all that and achieve his goal
He is sucha a beautifull boy and a kind soul. Wish I have a son like that one day! <3
YOU ROCK! What a great world it be if there were more kids like you.
