40 Things People Said That Indicated They Don’t Realize How The World Really Works, As Shared In This Online Community
People have the best knowledge of what they have experienced and to be more aware of what is going on outside their life’s bubble, they have to interact with people who are different from them and to actively search for that information.
Otherwise, they might make themselves oblivious and out of touch with reality, which could make them look stupid in front of others. Ignorance is not bad in itself as it is impossible to know everything, but sometimes it is hard to believe how certain knowledge has not reached a person.
Not realizing that there are people who can’t afford a house or having gaps in general education are some things Redditors considered to be common knowledge that doesn’t belong just to a single society group, but they were wrong and told some funny and frustrating stories answering the question “What did somebody say that made you think: ‘This person is out of touch with reality?’”

I’m a nanny and I’ve worked for some rich clients. Old money. These people know nothing about reality.
The best one I heard was this family I was working 12 hour days for. Good pay, terrible schedule. At one point I was bouncing their baby on my knee and the Mom goes “Being a mom isn’t that hard. I don’t know why other women complain about it so much”.
While her nanny is literally caring for the baby.
Pretty much any time I see someone yelling at a Starbucks or other service employee. They come into a crowded shop, wave their big $5 bill around like a high roller, then yell at a 16 year old for making their coffee incorrectly. Lame. If you find yourself to be one of the people yelling at service workers, fix your own problems before telling other people what to do.
Why should they? That kind of attitude has always worked, so why change now? When I became a manager in retail at a theme park, I was finally able to get revenge on those assholes. And I will take up for any service worker getting abused.
There are a lot of older fugly apartment buildings near the house I grew up in.
My friend at the time that lived a very privileged lifestyle, $200-300+ weekly weekend dinners with the family, timeshares over the place, skiing and snowboarding trips, etc. She was like why would anyone want to live in these apartments? I would never
I was like, people that live there don't have a choice...
Showed a parent the security footage of her 8th grader hitting a teacher. She claimed the footage had been edited. Sigh…..
My sister taught 6th grade English. More than one parent was required to sit in on their kid's classes. The kids still acted up because their parents refused to hold them accountable. The most common comment from the parents, and I use that word lightly, "We can't control him/her." When it came to the report cards, and the kids failed, they would storm in yelling that it just had to be the teacher's fault. Sure it is. No homework was turned in, every test failed. Yep, it's definitely the teacher's fault.
Me: telling someone I’m a type 1 diabetic
Rando: “you shouldn’t have eaten so much sugar as a child”
Also:
“Are you still diabetic” - P.A. At a checkup
Plus the limitless amount of “cures” people have for this incurable disease.
"Yes , Brenda i have tried them all, what I need is dragon blood and a shaman for best natural remedies."
Load More Replies...Honestly, the PA probably just saw diabetes in the chart & asked out of reflex. Type II is more common and some people do recover from it. My husband did it by losing 80 pounds and eating better. Type I diabetics cannot do that.
Load More Replies...As a reasonably thin 47 year old, the amount of nurses who have answered, when I tell them I am a type 1 diabetic, oh, but you aren't overweight is staggering. These are actual nurses
Me too. I've been a Type 1 diabetic for 25 years and I also have gastroparesis, which is neuropathy of the stomach due to damage of the vagus nerve, and the number of nurses that have told me "but you only weigh 128 lbs, we're you overweight at one time and losing weight just didn't help get rid of your diabetes?". Ummm, my question to them was "how did you get through nursing school if you don't understand the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes?" SMH
Load More Replies...I've been type 1 for 32 years. Recently a personal trainer told me it was my bad life choices that caused it, meaning I must have been eating too much junk food. I've always eaten healthy foods. I've never been over weight and I run every day. My Endocrinologist laughed and said that's how they make their money...by telling people they can cure it by curing bad habits.
I'm no doctor, but I think those problems would go away if you rub some citrus or woody essential oils onto their eyeballs. Other problems may develop, but hey, just keep applying as needed.
God yes. Being a type 1 and NO ONE understanding what that means. "Well you should really be eating more fruits and vegetables." That's not how that works. I mean yeah, we should all eat better. But those fruits you're shoving at me still are loaded with sugar. "Yeah but it's fruit sugar so it won't hurt you." Fruit sugar is fructose. I assure you, my body can't process ANY kind of sugar without a shot of insulin. "You just need to exercise more." Again, that's not how this works. I've been a type 1 for 29 years. Believe me I know what I'm doing. And having to constantly go back to the doctor for the same prescription for the same medicine I've been taking for over a decade. As though in 6 months I'm magically going to cure myself. God forbid if you're schedule is just to busy to get in to the doctor for a refill and your prescription runs out. "Well we really need to do some blood work before we refill it." Seriously?!
I agree with you on this inconvenience. Being a diabetic shouldn't require a doctor's appointment every time you fill your prescription. If you aren't experiencing any unusual symptoms that you aren't familiar with, then schedule a doctor's appointment. Since Diabetes is a chronic illness and expensive, every opportunity should be afforded to lesson the stress in your life that you already deal with on a day to day basis. If it were me I would sit down with my doctor and tell him that unless it's not an emergency, then I only want an appointment every six months, and tell him you have enough knowledge of this disease to know when its necessary to seek treatment or bloodwork. Otherwise I would seek another doctor.

Type 1 is the genetic type, yes. You're not stupid. (:
Load More Replies...Wtf...some people need to read information on type 1 Diabetes. Sounds like we got some idiots out there.
I am slightly overweight and was diagnosed type 2 last week. I won't be telling many people due to this judgement. Why is it when people hear the word "diabetes" suddenly, they are a doctor? My mom has type 2, as well. She has had it for years.
My husband is 55 and in multiple organ failure because of diabetes. He has been diabetic since 12 years old. No insulin output. He is blind in one eye, amputated leg, gastroparesis, kidney and heart failure, liver damage and now has Covid from being in the hospital. Plus he keeps getting septic because he broke his other femur in 3 places and is bed bound. People have no idea how devastating it is not just for the patient but also the care giver cluding medical professionals. If you don't have a lot of money expect no help even with insurance. That is my experience and I am not alone in this according to many in the health field. I am now unemployed because I had to resign my teaching job of 23 years to care for him. It has been a constant fight. I cannot count how many times I had to explain to a nurse or doctor how to care for my husband. Saying someone is diabetic is like saying a person is human. Every case is vastly different. P.S. Nothing can ever prepare you to lose the ones you love. Even when you know it's coming soon. At the very least our country could have a system that helps support caring for disabled and aging. I have worked since I was 15 and contributed to society positively a little help would not be amiss.
It's not just diabetes. Many clinicians, let alone laypeople, show their lack of education by suggesting many diseases that have an unknown etiology are induced from lifestyle choices. An MD, DO, or RN after a name doesn't mean they know everything or that what they do "know" is correct and current. Sometimes it's the patient who learns more about the condition than the clinicians.
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2001. When I had to move I had to find a new doc. She was looking at my chart and said she didn't believe in Fibromyalgia. I just got up and walked out, and let the head of the practice know about it.
Load More Replies...The science says NO! it's not that you ate to much sugar, it's that your pancreas is a b****h and be like, "Insulin? what's that?"
I am a type 1 2 diabetic. Have a pancreas transplant and have high insulin resistance. That is always fun to explain to intake staff.
IKR? I wish they would completely rename either Type 1 or Type 2 so people would stop getting them mixed up.
I have all the sympathy in the world for type 1 sufferers, in that instance insulin prices are obscene. For everyone else....we all know the consequences.
I'll never forget the dumbbit who said the keto diet could cure pancreatic cancer. She said this, albeit unknown to her, while my dad was dying from pancreatic cancer. She did not pick up on the awkward silence that followed from everyone else in the room who knew.
About 13 years ago, right now I'm 40, my mom and I were trying to get some insurance to help cover some of my diabetes meds. We were talking to the operator of one company, and the b***h had the gall to tell my mother "Well, you should never have let your child get fat."
Ha! Yes, I was 4 when diagnosed and my mom fed us a fresh, organic diet for the most part... Why do people think this??
Because they do not know that there are different types of diabetes that are caused by different circumstances. They may have read somewhere that being overweight and eating sh!t gives you diabetes - and bingo, there you go!
Load More Replies...If sugar is such an issue, cancel Halloween. Oh wait that would be wrong, right to not celebrate taking candy from strangers who bought it from corporations
If you drink enough of it, bleach would probably "cure" a lot of maladies.
When someone "diagnoses" me I say, "Thank you. That's interesting. Where did you go to medical school?"
Trump NEVER saidbto drink bleach....not even once! So where everyone gets that idea...oh, wait a minute, I know...a dumbassed reporter took what he said, twisted it & then ran with it! But, y'all keep on keepin' on with a totally false statement!!
A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. (To Bryan) And I think you said you’re going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?" He continued. "And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minut
The P.A. asking "Are you still diabetic?" Really hit me. Rando is just stupid. People with "cures" are ignorant. But a P A is supposed to have actual medical training and have some intelligence!
I'm so very sorry people are still so ignorant. I lost a lot of family members to this very type of disease. And just lost the last friend I had left at age 55 she left us last spring with type 2 diabetes.
Watch "Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days" and you will no longer believe it is "incurable".
So they're confusing type 1 and type 2. Which IS caused by shitty diet/poor exercise and CAN be cured by lifestyle changes
Yeah, my dad keeps running up to me with the latest diabetes cure on his cell phone. I don't know how many times I had to tell him that the cures are for a different disease that happens to have the same name. Whoever decided to name multiple diseases diabetes should not be allowed to name things.
I know someone that was diabetic according to their doctor. They had all the issues that come with it. They lost a bunch of weight, the doc says they aren't diabetic anymore BUT they have massive kidney damage from it happening to begin with. It was medication that made the person gain weight. Only person I have ever known to get rid of diabetes itself.
I'm type II. People don't realize the changes you have to make to accommodate your disease. You have to be careful with your feet, no running barefoot. A foot wound can cause big trouble. Make sure you get your eyes examined. Checking your sugar all day (try that at work or in a restaurant). Give yourself an insulin shot and hope it wasn't too much or not enough. Having diabetes isn't just a "don't eat too much sugar" kind of thing.
Huh, sounds like more people should be listening to Jenny McCarthy & Trump for their medical advice. (sarcasm).
As a type 1 diabetic I get this response so much. It makes me sooooooo mad!
Think that's bad, try living in Canada, and being on disability for autism, and having the government act like you're gonna get over it at some point.. (PS: Yes, I know it's worse in the states; there, they'd probably act like I never had it in the first place..).
When I told my ex that I had Type II diabetes his response was "Well, that's what happens when you live that lifestyle."😒 My father & grandmother had it, I was thin & ate pretty healthy so WTF does that even mean? 🙄
Educated members of the family I am estranged from deluded that dibeetus could be "caught" and the only "cure" was to become a "bodybuilder" and exercise everyday at a "spa" with only other "girls" in attendance. I have no clue how the rapists (plural) constructed their rape fantasy but all of their delusions included homo erotic fight fantasies involving bodybuilders. The rapists also believed as fact that psoriasis was caused by anally raping a male cat up the ass.
Yes I got cured by looking in the mirror and clicking your heels together chanting no more diabetes.
Just for the record type 2 can be caused by many other things than eating too much. In the first place putting the blame for someones serious chronic health condition on their own soldiers is cruel, regardless of if it's true. They're already suffering.
Type 2 diabetes isn't necessarily caused by eating too much sugar or overeating in general. There appears to be a genetic component as it runs in families. My husband developed it even though he wasn't overweight and didn't have a particular sweet tooth. I don't have it even though I admit to eating way too much sugar my entire life. I'm in my 60s now but none of my relatives have diabetes either whereas many in my husband's family have type 2. Separately they are now studying to see if people become obese because they are developing diabetes rather than the correlation that we have assumed that they develop diabetes because they are obese.
That can literally kill a diabetic because their blood sugar level can drop too low. Many diabetics keep a roll of hard candy with them in case this happens.
Load More Replies...The problem with this is that people automatically assume it's type 2 diabetes. The PA needs to go back to school or get a different job. 🙄
The only thing I don't like about this (As a type 1 diabetic) is the term incurable. We need a cure, this b******t has been around WAY TOO F*****G LONG. That cure needs to be uncovered and yes I said I f*****g covered. Because (though I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist), it was found back in the 80s. I think insulin companies covered that s**t. And they need to be put in prison for covering it up. And my most petty comment I save for last. Nick Jonas doesn't get it till atleast 4 million people WORLDWIDE get it.
I am sure this kind of ignorance is a big reason why there is no cure yet.
Everyone has an opinion, yours is the only one that matters; every one should read their own body and decide what is best for their state of mind.
Oh wow... see that one is again a sign that the population is not getting any smarter with time. If you don't understand or have knowledge of something say so. You don't look stupid you look like someone smart enough to continue to learn which is a very intelligent human being
The comment from the PA is inexcusable. The rando, while rude, is a lot more understandable as the most common diabetis is sugar consumption related.
I guess we should assume you’re not as ignorant as your comment and you just made a mistake. I’m sure you meant to say type 2 diabetes is the most common and usually linked to obesity. Therefore, perhaps you’re blaming sugar for the cause of the obesity even if that’s not accurate

My step dad had type 1 and it runs in his bloodlines.... My step dad's mom is also diabetic
Type 1 here, I was once asked if I could just 'wean' myself off insulin?
Why don't you familiarize yourself about diabetes before passing judgment on someone,or ask a question politely if the person doesn't mind being asked?
Bariatric surgery isn’t touted as a cure for diabetes but it is a happy side effect.
Thank popular pop-culture. STEM has been made to look like social leprosy. And also, the way our economy works. It's more profitable to make money with money or looks, then actually work on something. I honestly don't know how to fix this.
My favorite is people who talk about children on the autism spectrum. Well that child is just spoiled. They need a good spanking that behavior will stop. These parents are too permissive. I don't even have a snappy comeback because I'm usually using everything I have not pinch them in
But they're a type 1. Which can't. That's the point. The point is everyone hearing "diabetic" and assuming it's type 2.
Load More Replies...My former neighbor swore you could cure "sugar diabetes" with a spoonful of dirt daily. Never did ask him which type that was.
Wow! Very interesting! But is that really true? I know I am gullible but for real? That would burn your esophagus. Maybe you are saying to drink bleach because when you have COVID it is so bad that you just want to die. You got me wondering:)
Just tell your pancreas to get it's s**t together. Tough love is all it needs
I HATE that a P.A. doesn't know the difference between Type 1 and Type 2. Uuuuuggggggggh!
These people need to be hit upside the head with a fat ass reality check. Hard! "Am I still diabetic?" Ohhh yes, I thought I'd do this whole diabetes thing till the end of the year then as a resolution to not be one anymore. It's that easy you know. Like turning on and off a switch"
There are types of diabetes that can sometimes go away again - type II or pregnancy diabetes, for example, unfortunately type I won't...
Load More Replies...True, you don't cure type 1 diabetes. But, you can always use better diet (low carb high protein breakfast, divide up heavy meals into smaller ones), change sleeping habits (no-no to after meal nap) and exercising habit (walk 30min-1hr /day), try some herbal teas, etc. My mom when to a camp for diabetic control and got much better (because of the support there). She lives off of insulin completely towards the end. But then she stopped and got worse again after got back (she also has recurring cancer so it's much harder for her to practice something for long). I know it's hard, but many of these practice actually works, please try harder, and please help others too.
It’s amazing the people that sujested the idea of drinking bleach are the ones the made the idea up. By taking what someone else said and making it sound like they said something else. In fact they probably never even heard exactly what that person said because they where told by someone else what they said . That’s how out of touch people are when someone says hate this person they don’t even check it out for themselves.
She said are you still diabetic but she meant are you in remission
This panda must live in America. That is the only place where people this stupid are allowed to go out in public.
You must be allowed to go out in public, and your comment is stupid.

once got in an argument with a girl that people would rather die of starvation than eat something that's carcinogenic. I asked if she was seriously saying people would choose to starve to death over the course of a month than risk potentially developing cancer in a few years and she said yes.
I asked if she'd ever gone an entire day without eating before or knew what that felt like. she hadn't.

Went to a super rich girls house, she had had a baby 2 months prior, she had nannies coming in and out maids and a literal house manager plus PAs etc. and she was bragging about how she was back at work so soon and how she doesn’t know how people can stand doing ‘nothing’ for so long.
And when the baby says "mama" for the first time, it's for the nanny.
"I'm entitled to my opinion" when presented with facts showing they were wrong.
This bothers me sooooooo much. Opinions are not facts. Facts are not opinions. You are entitled to the opinion that Nickelback is a good band. You are even entitled to the opinion that certain Presidents/Prime Ministers are good/bad at their jobs because you can narrow your opinion down to very slim frames of reference (BoJo *was* the right guy to get Brexit done (unfortunately)). But you do NOT get to opine on whether the Earth is flat or whether vaccines work effectively.
"Nobody has ever died from rationing their insulin, nobody" - My FIL. That was an odd take of his, I'm still kinda puzzled over it. People have died doing almost anything. He didn't think they died from rationing something that costs hundreds of dollars per week though.
Sophomore year of high school, in my biology class, this one girl got into a conversation about what causes the winter season with the teacher.
And she goes, “winter happens because the sun turns cold, right?”
Honestly, I’m still having trouble processing that one, and it’s been eight years.

Whenever a disabled person shares their experience and a non-disabled person tells them how they can "fix" all of those problems.
I could write an entire dissertation on this. My best friend is visually impaired but has tunnel vision. She has no peripheral vision, and people tell her to get glasses, which she has, and tell her she doesn't look blind, so she must be lying. There is so much more I can say, but I am too angry just thinking about this.
Working for a super wealthy client who lived in the most expensive gated neighbourhood in the country... A Walled community, filled with old money and old political families, and he was complaining about "the elites" who the f**k do you think you are ? Joe F*****g 6 pack?
When liberals complain about 'the elite', they are often referring to the rich/super-rich. When conservatives b***h about 'the elite', they generally mean the educated. Stupid, rich, and conservative is the worst combo.
my sister, who traveled from the US to europe for the first time when she was 15 and has now lived there for over 5 years. We were talking about reasons people join the military and I mentioned a friend of mine who grew up on a reservation with very little and joined because he wanted to travel and get out of the rez. She looked at me and said “why can’t he just save up if he wants to travel?”
I’m 27 years old, grew up with most of the same privileges as her, and have never had the time or resources to leave the country. But she thought it was reasonable for a historically disenfranchised community member, growing up with nothing, to save up his money in order to leave home and travel.

My husband's friend insisted on taking us to the 'best, most authentic' Chinese restaurant in town.
I'm Chinese. He's a Jewish guy who has never been to any Chinese speaking country.
The food wasn't good, nor was it authentic.
He had the most smug look on his face when he sat back and quirked his eyebrow at me as if expecting me to heap praise onto him. Anyway, I didn't.
Best part is that they aren't friends anymore (I had nothing to do with that, I promise), so now I don't have to pretend that crab rangoons are the peak of Chinese cuisine.
American "Chinese" food is good.. some places are better than others. But nothing compares to real Chinese food. My brothers fiancé is from China and her family always has big dinner parties and OMFG... I never knew that American Chinese food wasn't actual Chinese food until I ate at their house. I'm just angry that there aren't any authentic places in the US because it's so much better than what is being sold here. I don't really remember some of the dishes they made. I just remember her mother lecturing us about how Americans ruined Asian cuisines and how she's on a mission to correct this atrocity! Oh and her red bean cakes and moon cakes were amazing! I had never had Chinese desserts before. I think she made some kind of mango pudding too one time that ruined all pudding for me. Nothing compares now.
I heard someone yesterday suggest that children should operate heavy machinery to address supply shortages.

People wonder why there isn't more eyewitness accounts of 9/11 because surely everyone just pulled out their phones?
B***h please. Back in 2001 most people were still using 35mm film cameras, camcorders were usually VHS and digital ones were not cheap in the slightest, and the US was behind the curve on cellular technology anyway. I was in the US a few months before 9/11 and even in New York people didn't understand what SMS was let alone had a phone compatible or were using it.
How is there an amount of eyewitnesses of 9/11 that makes people wonder why there isn't more? I mean, i'm a stupid alt-left radical commie anti-America extremist, but i think that if the tallest buildings in the city had a passenger jet aircraft fly into them and turn into a dust cloud of smoke and non-melting steel beams, i'd notice it.
A friend of mine in college was absolutely shocked when I and several other friends pulled out our childhood/hometown public library cards at dinner one night. She could not fathom that all of our families went to the library regularly when we were growing up and that this is an extremely common experience for a lot of people. When I asked her what she did when she wanted to read books growing up, she said "My family just bought them all."
One of my dreams. Own books. I have been able to acquire books and will keep those that I want to re-read. All others go to the library.

I was 16 years old, in Driver's Ed, and the teacher asks us an extra credit question. "Why are there interstates in Hawaii? You can't drive there from any other state."
A girl in my class raised her hand and asked, "Was it because they were built before Hawaii broke off?"....This girl thought it was a possibility that Hawaii broke off, and drifted to the middle of the Pacific ocean, all in the last 50 years.
Also, Hawaii has interstates because, if a highway is funded by the federal government, it's simply called an interstate.
My old boss was railing on me for placing an order late and getting charged more after missing the ‘early bird special’, when I had been reminding her consistently for at least two months (gradually increasing my urgency that she needed to make up her mind). She was yelling at me and then said, “$$$ might not seem like a lot to you but it is to me!”
This coming from the person who set my wage, signed my checks, owned 4 substantial homes, had MILLIONS of dollars worth of artwork, designer everything, etc… While I was living in a 250sq foot garden studio apartment with my partner, which flooded when it rained longer than two days, making her hundreds of thousands of dollars from sales, with no commission.
My aunt is a bit into that. She's done really well for herself but has forgotten that not all of us are retired engineers who play the stock market for funsies part time. She suggested Thanksgiving at my place one year, and I had to remind her that I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment and inviting around 15 people there wasn't going to work.
I was involved in a nonprofit for women in my last city maybe 2 years back. My ex (we were 27 at the time) was from a rich area of the state, and the mean income for this area was $31k. A teacher talked about how 500+ kids in her school were homeless, abs how seniors would pool their money together to get a hotel for days or weeks at a time.
I remember telling my ex about it, and how awful that’s gotta be to be 17 and living with 10 others in a hotel. He said “they’re stupid. If they had any brains, they’d buy a house so they could get equity; the hotel is just them throwing their money away and not getting anything from it.” He was 100% stuck that these 17 year olds, with no addresses, who are MINORS, can apply and qualify for a mortgage. I fussed at him and don’t regret it, because he is so out of touch with reality. Eventually he went on months later to say he talks down about other people and acts like he’s better than everyone because he is better than everyone.
Edit to add: to clarify, he suggested the high schoolers should all buy a house, not my organization. Household income was about 10k higher than individual. His parents were loaded, so he never had to really pay for anything until after college, and even then he didn’t have to pay for housing for the first 3 years of his career, and even still, 95% of his (nice) furniture and everything was given to him. It’s very easy to brag about your 401k when you NEVER had to allocate money towards rent, loans, etc.
He would have been an EX the first time he said something that stupid.
i’ve genuinely heard someone comment on a homeless person asking why they “don’t just get a home”…

Older coworkers asking me why poor people keep spending/borrowing money when they know they'll never pay it back..
Lol, like to live? What's the difference in $2k or $20k in debt when you know you'll only ever be paying back $0?
It's kind of liberating when you accept that you'll always be in debt. I'm getting a MA and buying a house. I'll die in debt. Good luck collecting the money then.
One of my relatives "Joined the illuminati" on facebook.... On. Facebook. He was really serious too and excited about it.
My fiance is a doctor, I'm an engineer her and I grew up VERY blue collar. We still have tons of student debt to pay off before we can reap the benefits of a good salary.
Her friend, a doctor who was a resident when she was in med school, was talking to us about the new house she bought, and kept asking us when we planned on moving out of our s****y apartment and getting a nice big town house. She couldn't comprehend that unlike her, our parents aren't rich, and they can't buy a house for us in CASH, and let us pay them back interest free.
I love her to death, she's a sweet friend we have known for a long time. She has done so much for us in terms of friendship and emotional support. But her mom was a successful surgeon, her dad retired early after selling his successful business.
There are poor people in the world who cannot for the life of them imagine what the life of a rich person is, and there are rich people in the world who have never, ever had to be confronted with what a poor person's life is like. They are surrounded their whole lives with people like them, and they really don't have a clue that there is anything else.
Had a girl ask what happened to the Mongolians in history class. She said “there’s not like a present day Mongolia or anything”. She sat under the ten foot wide world map, Mongolia was about two feet above her head.
When the United States legalized same-sex marriage, and Americans said they were going to emigrate to Canada. 1) Canada and Norway are the first countries to legalize same-sex marriage 2) You have to apply to emigrate to Canada. It takes years and tons of paperwork, and you still might be rejected.
Yeah, I don't remember Americans having ever been invited to Canada...just sayin'. - Sincerely, all Canadians

Load More Replies...I don’t blame wealthy people for not being constantly acutely aware of how other people live. I do blame them when, if confronted with how poorer people live, they won’t take a minute do some simple math in their head. Like the wealthy woman who told me that if I visited Europe I should be sure to stay for at least a few weeks or a month and take my time, when she knew that, at that time, I made $18,000 a year. WTF?!
yep, arrogant as hell though. At that salary, which here is considered moderately low middle-income, there's ZERO chance of overseas travel. You need to be getting ballpark $ 30 000 per annum to stand a chance.

The amount on stuff that did not really happen in this list and the ones that were meant as jokes far out weigh the real ones... lol
Some of these were funny... But the ones making fun of teens for not knowing how the world works were kind of sad. Like... they're still kids, they're pretty new here, they only know what they've been taught and exposed to, which is a reflection of their schools and caretakers, not of their intelligence. Like, yeah, a 16 year old should know these things, because someone should have taught them. What, do you think they learn how the world is by osmosis? Just because they have access to social media doesn't mean their phones can auto download all necessary knowledge into their brains. They have to know what to look for to learn on their own, and lots of times that takes considerable life experience. Stop ragging on literal children for not knowing things.
Neighbor was complaining about our lawn. I told her we don't have a mower. She said "So fix it". I repeated "We don't have a lawnmower"
She meant fix the lawnmower problem but that's still unreasonable

My mom goes by the quote "if you are letting someone borrow money, don't expect it back"

She's not required to have a job and has an unlimited credit card and gets a new Macbook for Christmas every year. One night she took a private gig bartending a party thrown by a billionaire. The only thing she had to do all night was pour wine. They paid her a few grand. When she got home to her dad's apartment, he was in town for the weekend, she said to him, "Wow Dad, now I know how the other half live." Um honey, you ARE the other half. The next time he was in the office after that he told this story to every employee. He literally told the story like 20 times. Most of his employees can barely afford their rent.
Sounds like an EXTREMELY boring and uninformed life for the dad and/or daughter

She was from Lansing, Michigan and was discussing her experiences and insights with some she had made an acquaintance with about her tour of Italy. She said she did not care for Rome. What was her grievance with this ancient city? The streets were to narrow and she would be unable to fit her SUV down them. It was just a poorly designed city...
Work customer service for a major retailer that uses gift cards, which are treated as cash. No word of a lie, when client told me that they had gotten the gift card and mailed it out, after receiving, their response to being told we wouldn't refund it was "That's like watching my mother being raped. Picture you're mother being raped. PICTURE YOUR MOTHER BEING RAPED...." Over and over til I hung up.
Growing up, we categorize these rich people into two categories. People and marks. Yeah I'm not much of an upstanding citizen growing up. You do what you can to eat and a well gamed mark can keep you and your friends fed for a while.
Anyone can be rich. Just pick the right skin color, have wealthy parents and influential friends, be good looking, attend a top notch school, pick the right country to be born in, make sure you are male ... Just don't understood why everyone does not do these simple rules for success.
I have a feeling that it was mostly about America and their situation. and it's scary. I'm happy to live in Europe. the American dream is not as sweet as people here often imagine.
You must be very lucky then. I have lived in europe all my life and I am poor as f**k. In Spain unemployment is rampant, salaries are extremely low and many kids go to school without food. In the netherlands you need to pay a extremely expensive insurance (minimum 95 euros a month) to even get any health care and not get a huge fine. Here in belgium if you are a migrant and disabled like me you get nothing, only threats and lies from the government. The only reason why I am not in the streets is because my partner has a job and cares for me.
