During my trips to Belgium i discovered beguinages. Beautiful places which are an oasis of silence and old architecture. When you go into beguinage you began to feel like in a past.
Beuginages were produced during the Crusade, when many men did not return from the expedition. They were a kind of city in the city. Beguines had their own bakery, a brewery, a nursing home or a church. They had much in common with the religious sisters. Like they lived in a closed community, they vowed obedience, but not poverty. They sacrificed their lives to God without making religious vows.
Today in Belgium are only 23 beguinages. 13 of them are on UNESCO World Heritage List.

Our town has a beguinage too. Not as pretty as the ones on the pictures, but its still a nice quiet place inside the city where we love to sit down on the grass and enjoy the sun.
This is a gorgeous series. Thank you for posting this series here. I had never heard of a beguinage before
