There are unsung heroes out there who are willing to donate their hair to adults and children going through cancer treatment out of the goodness of their hearts. These folks part ways with their hair, then it is processed and made into real hair wigs for people who have lost their own.
Fortunately, through the magic of the internet, these heroes can get at least a moment in the spotlight, as many show before and after pics, which we have gathered here. Get comfortable, upvote your favorites, and comment your thoughts below. We also got in touch with the Little Princess Trust to learn more about donating.

Meet 10-Year-Old Zach. He Has Trouble Making Friends In School, So He Thought He'd Do Something Nice To Help Other Kids Feel Confident
My Daughter Donated Her Hair Today
Just Donated My Hair
Bored Panda got in touch with the Little Princess Trust to learn more about what they do and what people can do to donate. First and foremost, we wanted to know more about their activities.
“The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair to cancer treatment or to other conditions like Alopecia. Thanks to its supporters who not only donate their hair but also fundraise, The Little Princess Trust provides around 2,000 real hair wigs every year to children and young people up to the age of 24. It was set up in 2005 in memory of Hannah Tarplee. A year earlier, she had been diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor and the loss of her hair was especially traumatic.”

After 61 Months, It Was Time For The Big Chop. 30 Inches Of Hair Is Going Towards Children With Hair Loss
“Her parents felt the most fitting tribute to the five-year-old would be a charity dedicated to providing wigs to children who had lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions. The Little Princess Trust was born, and the charity has now provided wigs to more than 15,000 young people of all genders. The charity is also one of the largest charity funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.”

There are people who wonder why resources are spent on making wigs, ostensibly aesthetic items, so we wanted to hear actual experts' opinions on the matter. “We know from speaking to the young people who receive our wigs the difference the real-hair wigs make at what can be a really distressing and challenging time.”
I Shaved My Head For Charity. I Shall Now Proceed To Run My Hands Over My Scalp Constantly Because I Like The New Texture
I had my head shaved for 2 years and loved the feel and freedom of no maintenance. Alas, I started to miss my curls so I'm letting it grow for awhile. No doubt I'll shave it, again at some point.
Alex's Hair, Which Has Become A Part Of His Identity Over The Years, Will Now Embark On A New Purpose - To Bring Confidence And Happiness To Another Child
She Had Her Very First Haircut And Was Able To Donate Fourteen Inches Of Her Hair To "Wigs For Kids"
“The wigs help to give a little sense of normality to a child when so much else is changing and they can also help to restore a young person's confidence and identity. The words below are from three of the young people who have received a wig from The Little Princess Trust:"
“My biggest fear when I found out about having cancer was losing my hair and what I was going to look like. Having this wig gave me my confidence back and has made me feel like me again.”
After Growing My Hair Out For Nearly 3 Years, I Finally Decided To Cut And Donate It
This Young Man Did A Very Brave Thing Today. He Donated His Hair
Anghelo And Takuma Are Friends And Students At The University Of Florida. The Pair Decided To Donate Their Hair Together For A Good Cause
“Losing your hair can be quite intimidating and signals that everything in your life has changed. So getting a wig fitted and styled helps to bring back some sort of normality and boosts your self-esteem.”
“Before I had a wig, I was a completely insecure and different person. But after receiving the wig from The Little Princess Trust everything has changed.”
From these testimonials, it's pretty clear that a wig is more than just an accessory.
Last Year, When Reese Discovered That Her Nana Was Dealing With Alopecia, She Made A Heartfelt Decision. She Would Donate Her Hair In Her Nana's Honor
Nikhilesh Thota Is One Of Our Most Recent "Wigs For Kids" Donors
Nikhilesh says, "I've always had a complicated relationship with my hair. Growing up, teachers used to tell me I needed to comb my hair, and the other kids would say it looked like a bird's nest. This created a lot of insecurity about my hair, so I started straightening it in high school to try and fit in with everyone else. One day, I didn't straighten my hair, and a girl told me my hair looked beautiful. Long hair has given me so much confidence and helped me care less about other people's opinions. Although I'm nervous about losing this part of my identity that has grown with my hair, I think I'm ready to experience something new. These locks have empowered me in so many ways, and I'm glad they will continue to make a difference, empowering kids that have lost their hair to help them look like the rockstars they truly are."
Hair Donation
We also wanted to know how people could help right now. “There are many ways that people can support the work of The Little Princess Trust. The most common way is for people to donate their long hair to us and ask friends and family to sponsor their big cut. That way they not only support us by sending hair but also help with the cost of making, fitting, and styling wigs.”
I Donated Some Curls Today. I'm Feeling Chic
What a rare & gorgeous color! They'll be so thankful for your donation!
I mean no disrespect but the color of that shirt does nothing for her! She would look even better with warm tones.
See, these are what we call inside thoughts. If it is comfy and she likes it, let it be.

“We encourage all supporters to try to donate a minimum of 12 inches of hair to help us meet the demand for our popular longer wigs – and hair must be dry when it is cut. Many people set a target of £700 as that is the average cost of providing a wig to a child or young person with hair loss,” they shared with Bored Panda.

kudos and tbh they're all looks great if not better in shorter haircut
Often true but this is also due to the fact that when you plan to donate your hair you stop going to the hairdresser at some point and stop getting a hairstyle because you want all your hair to be about the same length and you need a certain minimum length (25-30 cm/10-12 inches). So after a certain point you just start looking something in-between boring and 'really in need of haircut's ;) I am looking forward to having my pixie again in about half a year, bc right now, I too look very plain.

I'm growing my hair out super long right now so that way I can donate it for the first time! I got inspired about a year and a half ago. My younger sister is doing the same thing aswell. She has brown hair with highlights, and I'm a (dark)red head with blond highlights. :) Both of our hair is a little bit over halfway down our backs. I'm so excited!
Load More Replies...I love these! As a child I had long hair because I was growing it out until I was 10-11. I had never cut it. When I did end up cutting it, I was told I couldn't donate it? My hair wasn't dead or anything of the sort, really. I took good care of it. I was told by my parents no one would want such an ugly color, (I'm a brunette.) So that turned into younger me hating my hair color and being ashamed of it. My mother had cancer twice, and she's went bald on multiple occasions. I grew up in a abusive house. (No, my mother wasn't the one to stop me from donating it, my dad at the time was.) Luckily, we got out of there, and he's been in and out of prison for selling drugs and assault. He has multiple other families, and he is both mentally and physically abusive. I was once looking for more information about him, and found an article about him putting loaded guns and a meth mashine next to a two year old (who was apparently me.) I am glad to say we are doing (somewhat) better now.

I have been donating my hair to them every 2-3 years for the last 15 years! It's a great cause. I always take a picture of the braid after they chop it all off.
I really hope that the hair will be donated to people who have lost their hair. Then again I wonder what extension are made of that the celebrities wear
Having had an absolute darling of an aunt with cancer, this brings me to tears. I just want to say you people are absolutely amazing! Thank you so so much!!!
My son is about to do this .....such amazing contributions and they all look amazing with new hairstyles
Mine grew during lockdown, by the time we could go back to the salon it had got past the awkward stage and I was having fun putting it up in various retro styles. After two and a half years I had enough to send to Little Princess Trust. And yes, I am growing it again
Did that too. Had long hair for over 8 years, donated to Rak'n'Roll (pun of words, rak means cancer in Polish).
Everyone looked great before and after. Perhaps see a few of them in another 3 - 4 years.
You all look wonderful! I have had brain surgery 3 times and have to have a 4th this fall. I have lost my hair twice. I have come to the realization that it's just hair, and there is so much more that's important in the grand scheme of things. I have had two wigs and I own probably 10 caps. I also chose just to be bald a lot. I used to have blonde hair, mostly straight. I now have short, light-brown curly hair! I have a great stylist who has helped me embrace the changes to my hair with cut and, when I choose, color. Blessings to all these people who have chosen to donate their hair. They're doing something very selfless.
So lovely!! So many people benefit from this care from strangers! I've tried to donate mine before but it can't have been colored treated. (Kinda broke my heart.)
Little Princess Trust will take coloured hair as long as it's a permanent dye and a natural hair colour

Depending on where you are, there are a few places that you can send it to. Might be a good idea to go to a salon and ask, mine packaged mine up and sent it off for me :)

Twice in my lifetime I've cut my really long hair short wanting to donate it, sell it or whatever but twice it ended up in the trash or the hairdresses sold it... I've never dyed my hair, the split ends could have been snipped off and I have reaaally thick hair, it could have been put to good use. I still b***h about that from time to time...
For the past three years, I've been growing my hair long enough to make the 8" chop for Children with Hairloss. I'm waiting on my last inch before my chop at the end of the summer, but it always makes my heart (and head) feel so much lighter!
Thank you to all these wonderful people... and they all look amazing after the big cut!!
It's nice everyone donated for kids. But what about all the adults who loose their hair?
I wish people would STOP donating their hair. Whoever you gave it to ALWAYS SELLS the hair they NEVER donate. If you wanna donate hair give it directly to the source not some middleman place.
I tried to do this and grew my hair out but health issues and medication to treat said health issues have made half my hair fall out

I've done this once and they gave me the haircut free (wasn't expecting that.) Since I now have underactive thyroid, my hair grows too slowly. It's been about a year and a half to two years since I had it last cut short, and it's only shoulder length. Edit: They also won't take hair that's been dyed, so that also stopped me on a couple of occasions.
