Life isn’t always sunny days and crisp mornings. There are bleak moments that give us all a reality check about the existence of the positives and negatives, the good and the bad.

This is why online groups like Awful Everything exist. The page bio states that it “views all things that are just genuinely awful,” and you will see it as you scroll through. It features unfortunate events and shames people who commit despicable acts.

We’ve picked out some images that stood out. Just a heads up, this list may make you shake your head in disbelief and disappointment.

Shades of Walter White being forced to do manual labour at the carwash to compensate for his miserable teacher's salary. You can kinda see why he ended up turning evil.

We often see messages encouraging happiness and positivity while blocking out negative things. According to life and careers coach Helen Dillon, this mindset isn’t beneficial. As she tells Healthline, it hinders us from critically analyzing our current situation.

“Positivity is a good mindset to have, but embracing the negative moments in our lives is what keeps us real,” she said.

There are no words to describe how much I hate the insurance industry. And I live in a country with universal healthcare, so l'm not directly affected, but they're predatory soulless c***s who feast on people's tragedies. It's currently happening in Valencia. Insurance companies won't pay based on a clause of "extraordinary weather phenomenon"

This is hooey. For almost a billion years there was runaway global cooling leading to a period known as "snowball Earth". The entire history of the planet is of swings from relatively long-term stability to often violently unstable and difficult conditions. In some of these events the majority of species were wiped out.

In 1804, the human population hit 1 billion people. It took 123 years to hit 2 billion. We hit 3 billion in 1960, 4 billion in 1974, 5 billion in 1987, 6 billion in 1999, 7 billion in 2011, and 8 billion Nov 15th 2022...and two years and 3 days later we're already at 8.2 billion. Of those, 2.8 billion people are "food insecure" and 733 million (11%) are actively starving.....yet increasing the population is framed as a moral imperative, and most of the human population only aspires to build the kind of technologically advanced society found in the western world....the kind that has hate f****d the planet to the brink of destruction in less than 200 years.

This is a bit misleading if you’re looking at forests as the Earth didn’t have forests at the beginning 4.6 billion years ago. Not even close.

Since the end of the last ice age, the world has lost one-third of its forests. 50% of that one-third is since industrial revolution. Meaning we have lost about as much forest since industrial revolution as the previous 10,000 years. After ice age: 6 billion hectares, Today: 4 billion hectares, 10,000 BC - 1800 AD = 1 billion hectares lost, 1800 AD - 2000 AD 1 billion hectares lost

On this scale forests appeared less than 6 months ago (plants a bit longer) - being blunt the only ones that care we are screwing up life on Earth is us, life will recover and go on (it's survived worse) and the planet doesn't give a sh1t.

The entire point is that this is not sustainable for humans. Nothing will happen to earth . There have been millions of years without trees. Earth will evolve into something different to what we know. Well, no human will be there to see it though

It isn't indeed. But people crave overconsuming. Just compare the shopping behaviour in the glorified 50s with the same today. It is not only that prodzction needed to increase due to the population growing from 2.5 billion to 8 billion, it is too because of buying fast fashion and all kinds of cheap stuff.

Actually, most of the world's forests were in Egypt and the Middle East and disappeared thousands of years ago. Native Americans burned thousands of square miles of forest to to create bison habitat.

It is 100% true that humans have accelerated climate change and we are seeing the reprerecussions of that now and it was preventable and life is not sustainable with what has happened. But this post is overly dramatic and is just fuel for the opposition.

Can someone who's trying to tell us that humans are awful please tell me what species you're comparing us to? What species that has gained our level of sentience and intelligence has done a better job in regard to the environment? *crickets* So sick of this "humans suck!" argument. We evolved from, and still are, animals. And, as a species, we can't just magically shake off our violence, greed, ignorance and tribalism. Just like every other species, we — as a SPECIES — are doing the best we can. And all those other species that you think are better than us? They don't have the ABILITY to f**k up the environment, much less make conscious decisions about it. So, again ... who are you comparing us to?

You want a reply? Here's one. We've reached the point of no return. This means much more than you think. It isn't just past a point to avoid raising the global temperature, it isn't a fact that we are now past point to reverse the climate change. Here's the real deal, if we don't reach another planet, we'll die. We're actually on a fast tract to extermination of our own species. Now say we survived somehow, and got a chance to start over, we've used so much of the earth's resources that if we that chance to start again, we'll never go beyond the farm age. There's nothing left. So to answer your question? We aren't being compared to anyone, because that isn't the point. We're a blip of the timeline and we've destroyed this planet. Comparing us to another species is irrelevant

As psychotherapist Gillian Fagan points out, negativity is also innate in humans. It is called a negativity bias, where we naturally expect the worst to come.

Fagan states that catastrophizing is rooted in our instinct for survival, and focusing too much on the positive may magnify feelings of failure when things don’t go our way.

Even if I wasn't poor I would buy most of my clothes from the op shop (thrift store). It is pretty common where I live (except maybe in certain suburbs) for people (mostly women) to brag about the deals they have gotten from the op shop. I have a handbag shaped like a book that has gotten a lot of compliments and at least twice it has led to me chatting about deals from op shops with random women at the bar.

Unpleasantries are a part of life, and it’s all about embracing their presence. Motivation Science Professor Dr. Bobby Hoffman notes that people who are more inclined to accept the negativity around them have better mental health. It all comes down to emotional regulation.

In an article for Psychology Today, Dr. Hoffman defines this as the conscious alteration of the appraisal and assessment of the emotion, which, in effect, neutralizes the negative consequences.

So, what is the shortest path to emotional regulation? Dr. Hoffman suggests restructuring our feelings and responses via simple acts of positive self-talk. It’s also about accepting that bad things happen to everyone, regardless of their personality and the existence of bad karma.

“Repeatedly accepting one's negative thoughts and emotions, rather than judging them, may allow individuals to repeatedly experience less negative emotion,” he wrote.

Ok, so that is slightly less than 2 gallons per hour per passenger, or approximately the same fuel consumption as an average car with a single occupant travelling at 70 mph. That's why modern cruise liners and cargo vessels are so big and carry so many passengers and so much cargo, it all about economy of scale. It may seem counter-intuitive but very large cruise and cargo ships are more efficient on a cargo-ton per mile or passenger number per mile basis than almost any other form of transport.
