Artist With Synesthesia Combines People And Their Voices In His Paintings

Synesthesia artist Dillon James sees colors and patterns in his vision when he hears sounds. He has a type of synesthesia known as “Chromesthesia”. So, he has merged those colors with the faces of the people he’s painting.

We’ve shown synesthetes on Bored Panda before. But, never one quite like Dillon. “I do all types of artwork, but people tend to want paintings of voices. I love being able to show people in my art what I see when I hear sound. It’s sharing of myself at the deepest level.” Well, keep sharing, Dillon!

I have Synesthesia too but when I hear people talking I just see swirling colours like a silent firework display.

Same here.. I just add the peaks of those into paintings of the people themselves. Painting just the sounds is boring and just looks like drip or alcohol painting. :)

I have Synesthesia! Your work is great! I feel shapes in my hands when I taste or smell something. It also has an odd placement on a horizon line or vanishing point. Colors too, but the shapes are the focal point. Ex: Garlic is linear and staccato thin rectangles with the size getting larger at the horizon line. Color is neon blue and metallic gold. This will change if it is paired with something.
