Artist Creates Mini Musicals Documenting The Plights Of Photographers And It’s So Relatable

Meet Alexa. She is a musical theatre nerd with a love for photography. We asked her what inspired her to create these skits.

“I create these skits for three reasons. The first being I was diagnosed with a condition called POTS that affects my heart rate, and I had to stop doing theatre, which was my passion and something I enjoyed. I missed physical comedy and making people laugh and it dawned on me – Why can’t I make skits on my own time so I could have better control over my environment and health needs? And why don’t I combine that with photography? If there’s something I want to do, I like to try to figure out alternatives so I don’t feel like my health stuff holds me back. This was the alternative.

The second reason, is when I was building my personal brand I had a lot of people telling me that I needed to act and dress a certain way, so naturally I did the opposite. I want to attract the quirky, fun people. The best advice I could give is don’t be scared to try things people haven’t done before. If I had listened to the person who told me not to post any of this I wouldn’t have gone viral and started meeting a bunch of really cool people and building my brand. I want to create sharable content that can educate while being absolutely ridiculous at the same time. Everything is low budget, so it has that vibe of everything just being thrown together and the elements like the dancing is just terrible.

The third reason is that I get a kick out of betting on whether you’ll laugh or run away after watching one of these skits! Those are the two reactions I get, there is no in between. haha!”

She then turned around and asked us why we were interviewing her, regarding her in the third person, and using “we” instead of “I”. We told her it was because if people found out I was both the writer of this article and the person who made the skits, it would get a little weird. I have a fear of self-promotion. …. I don’t think I was supposed to tell you all this….. X’D ANYWAY enjoy the crazy.

MEET ALEXA. Self Proclaimed Unicorn and Professional Photographer. With fancy camera leggings.

Her latest skit discusses the dilemma of all the weird postures we have to get ourselves into just to get the perfect shot.

Can we appreciate the fact that a long lens is being used in this shot? X’D (Also, the lens cap is on, but technicalities)

She then goes on to sing about the inquiries that complain about pricing, and how to handle it. AND I should mention she does all of this dressed like “Uncle Bob” and showing off her not so smooth dance skills

Her first skit is her sales pitch. Listen to the first few seconds and you’ll be able to guess the song this is a parody of! Also, who wouldn’t want to be fanned by palm fronds?

She has a page on facebook where her skit has gone viral and she will be focusing on creating more skits on a consistent basis as well as creating content for other photographers and business owners.

I view photography as an art. It's not just about learning the technicalities of the camera and editing software in order to preserve a memory, for me it's manipulating an image to match how I picture it in my imagination. I believe everyone has beautiful qualities, and I want my models to be able to see themselves in the way I see them when they look at a completed image. IG: @alexatheawkwardphotog
