The Hepatitis C Trust’s Art on a Postcard is working alongside artist Mick Rooney RA on an audio-visual project this September. Inspired by Mick’s beautifully painted ukulele in the 2016 RA Summer Exhibition, together they will be curating an orchestra of musical instruments, all painted by well-known and loved artists.
Pete Howlett, the UK’s foremost independent ukulele producer and the sole manufacturer for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, has handcrafted a suite of ukuleles to be used as art mediums and then played by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Each ukulele has been given to artists including Mick Rooney RA, Ramiro Fernandez Suas, Cathy Pilkingon RA, Norman Ackroyd RA, Bill Jacklin RA, Anne Desmett RA, Allen Jones RA, Charlie Calder-Potts, David Inshaw RA, and many more to paint over with their drawing ideas.
The instruments will be showcased as an art exhibition in a charity concert hosted by TV presenter Jon Snow with performances from The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and special guests, The Massive Violins and Clean Bandit at The Jazz Cafe; on 12th September, followed by a Private View at Long & Ryle on 19th September and an auction of the unique artworks on 21st September. The money raised will go to The Hepatitis C Trust.
