Trans People Are Sharing These 40 Memes To Talk About The Struggles They Run Into
The internet is filled with wonderful things and nothing defines our use of it as clearly as the concept of the meme. Recently, they have become as powerful as language itself, covering literally any topic you can think of—from cute and comfy animal jokes to expressions of your own identity.
Enter the r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns subreddit (or r/traa for short), a place where transgender people can make fun "of themselves, others, and the situations they find themselves in." Known as one of the most legendary trans-centered communities, it is dedicated to posting meaningful content ranging from serious, to relatable, to completely hilarious.

Ever since its creation in 2012, r/traa has become a true powerhouse with more than 297K members posting memes that have something to do with being trans, or about the trans community. The subreddit asks its subscribers not to be too political and simply have fun. Many people share posts about the struggles they run into every single day, from transphobia to transitioning and many more.
Still, their take on tackling such serious issues is to disguise it with humor. This isn’t the place to argue but rather to embrace the weirdness, absurdity, and hilariousness of random situations that trans people find themselves in.
Being one of the most popular online trans-oriented pages, the subreddit is also dedicated to building a supportive and meaningful community, not only serving memes. One of the moderators told Mashable: "When I started, it was a lot more edgy memes. Now it's more like a place where people can leave events, support others, and comfort others while seeking humor."

Over the past few years, the page has seen an enormous increase in subscribers. "I think a lot of it has to do with increasing acceptability," the mod said. "Of course during [Trump’s] presidential administration we've regressed a lot in terms of human rights. But in terms of social consciousness, people are more aware of what being trans is."
They added: "People want to know what options there are for people who experience gender dysphoria or who are not their assigned gender at birth. It's really hard to be able to explore those things alone."

Didn't Really Know Where To Post This
The moderator mentioned that they’ve noticed an increase of younger users who are feeling more open in their lives to come out. At least to come out online, and that's why a lot of trans people turn to the r/traa subreddit.
Such online communities are great for people who might not be ready to talk loudly about their struggles but need to vent and let those feelings out in some way. It allows people to know that there are others like them who are going through the same issues in their everyday lives. This creates a sense of belonging and reminds them that they have a place to turn to.

I believe some of us truly fall in love with souls not genders or labels...my husband could come home and tell me he's gay/bi/trans/going to turn himself purple I can honestly say I'd stay with him and love him no matter what...he's my best friend and the one person I can always count on...gender has absolutely nothing to do with that.

that is truly loving your partner the way it is supposed to be, this should be normal when you love someone, no exception. If you really love someone, that love doesn't change when they tell you, be proud they trust you enough to let you see who they really are. Trust and respect are the most important things in a healthy relationship.
"Trans people are often some of the most marginalized people in society," the moderator explained. "So they develop thick skin, which translates into humor. Because a lot of trans people's experiences are pretty dark and pretty sad, there has got to be some way to keep the hope up [and this is one]."
Since the trans community has only grown more visible in recent years, it is critical to represent their thoughts and feelings. The content r/traa posts shows that it is a safe environment with a purpose. Even if that purpose is to share the most absurd and ridiculous memes out there, trans people have a chance to feel free and express their own voices.

There are daily mass shootings in the U.S. Conpared to similarly wealthy countries, this is a uniquely American problem. We also have a disproportionately gigantic number of civilians already in prisons. I don't know how to make us more concerned about this.

I know a good number of trans people (close friends and also acquaintances). All of them transitioned as adults and none of them pass. They are the ones whose rights I will fight for the hardest. I've had a lifetime of being judged for my appearance. They don't need that bullshit on top of everything else they have been through.

I'm still in the closet (even though it has holes) and even though I have supportive parents, I'm scared I could be faking it or that I could be injured (or even killed) if I try to be my preferred self out in public. I also don't get much dysphoria, probably since my parents taught me that clothes don't have a gender and neither does long/short hair. But I'm still scared. I've told some friends to try and get used to it, but now I'm even questioning the name I chose. But, I'm proud of Trans people, whether they be masculine or femminine. I wish it wouldn't be so difficult to be yourself in this world.

Let me say to you the thing that finally woke me up: a cis person probably thinks about being the opposite gender with about as much mental energy as they wonder what it might be like to be a lamp post. If you find yourself questioning your gender, even slightly, it's worth it to take a deeper look. You might be trans. You might be agender. You might be genderfluid. Until you look inside yourself, you can't know for sure. And whatever you turn out to be, there will always be those who will support you.

I remember a transphobic moment I had once - my teacher was doing roll call, just asked names. For one girl in my class? Name and gender. It boiled my blood so much!

We still have such a long way to go. I always comfort myself that the younger generation is leaps ahead of everyone else in their comprehension of gender/sexuality rights and issues. You guys will change the world for the better, the world that my generation and my parents' generation made so crap!

I'm old enough that I remember when coming out as a guy man or a lesbian was still considered shocking, and watching that become a rare moment transform into something that (for the most part where I live) is now considered no big deal. I love seeing the strength and bravery of the Trans, asexual, gender fluid, and other marginalized people gaining strength and being supported as their fight is gaining support. I can't begin to imagine the hardships, struggles, and fears myself, although I have close friends who have (or are) going through it. But I'm just hoping in another few (short) years this will all be viewed the same way being gay is now, like it's a natural part of life and humanity.

These comments warm my heart. I'm at an age where most wouldn't consider that I'm not cis. (Less than 15!) I have looked through multiple LGBTQ+ dictionaries, and feel that Faesari is the best term for me. (Mostly Agender with a connection to Femininity). I'm still finding myself every day, and I support those who are in the same position as me, or even just people that support people LIKE me. I'm so glad I'm growing up surrounded by support from random people on the internet. Be brave. Be you! 😊❤️

What? How the heck would not having gender built into your language make you LESS open to gender fluidity? It automatically allows you to think in less gendered terms overall, so that is actually one positive we have going for us. America's problem with gender fluidity does not come from the language, it comes from our Puritan Christan values, which permeate almost all parts of our society.
