I'm sure this has already been addressed someone in the comments but I sincerely hope the main title of this thread relates to 'America's Most POPULAR Novels' - because it sure as hell implies that Charles Dickens and J K Rowling are Americans. And of course, we all know that the Americans invented EVERYTHING in the world, but just no.
Besides the American/Non-American thing, I'd like to reverse this for a moment and think about the effort it took to write some - seemingly - dull stories in ways that made those very stories (almost?) immortal.
