The Human Library
A recent international survey from Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism found that in almost every country surveyed, people’s trust in media is decreasing. More and more people are avoiding news because, they say, it “has a negative effect on their mood.”
This is why allowing yourself some light-hearted content that evokes positive emotional responses such as curiosity and amazement, or surprise, is very important. But despite good news and positive content being beneficial to our mental health, like most people are aware of, our behavior tells a different story.
The researchers also found that, on average, negative news provoked much stronger physiological reactions and garnered more attention than positive or neutral news. And even though individual people’s reactions varied a bit, a minority of people respond more to positive news.

Very Interesting
On the other hand, when browsing for any kind of information online, whether positive or not, it’s important to be aware of whether it’s real truth and real facts. But since there’s no foolproof method to separate truth from misinformation online, internet users must have knowledge and understanding that everything we read and watch online must be taken with a grain of salt.

In our previous interview with Daniel Markuson, the cybersecurity expert at NordVPN, we found out that a general rule of thumb is to check the source’s credibility: “This particularly applies to social media platforms because they are optimized to increase engagement and lack appropriate gatekeeping features that filter out misinformation.”

When asked about the reasons why fake news has become so widespread, the cybersecurity expert said that it’s “due to factors that concern both the content of the messages and the technological foundation of platforms on which the news is proliferated.”
“Fake news is usually related to current affairs and makes remarkable, emotion-inducing claims. This, combined with the fact that social media platforms collect data on what kind of posts users spend the most time on and feed them content with similar characteristics, provides the perfect conditions for the spread of misinformation,” Daniel concluded.
Bionic Reading Method
I'm not a slow reader but dang this helps me read like sonic after having a chili dog
Same. I read fast as is but this makes it both quicker and easier to focus instead of just skimming the words
Load More Replies...it wkors! I've olny seen the one with jebumlmd mdiede ltrseets brfoee and tihs wkors
Me neither, guess we're not the target audience.. it obviously works for some people though, judging by the other comments.
Load More Replies...It works very well for me, despite the fact that my english is not very good.
Load More Replies...Is it because I'm not neurodivergent. that this seems more difficult to read? Like the bold letters are distracting?
Everybody's brain is different... my brain ither runs fast, or decides that it's bored. I love reading, but this just allows me to take the info in much faster. Now for a good book, where I'm super visualizing the story, I don't know whether or not this will work for me...
Load More Replies...That’s crazy I read the whole thing in 5 seconds… and simultaneously processed all the information!
Thought I was fast before now I can't turn the pages fast enough. Someone make an app for this
I have ADHD, but have never been a slow reader. I think this did make for faster reading, but in my case, visually it made me very mad. The inconsistency is infuriating. Glad it exists and can be helpful for many, but definitely not for me! lol
This actually screwed me up on a physical level. Glad it helps others, but this felt like a rollercoaster ride that I really wanted to off of.
I read pretty quick to myself and fairly slow out loud. I am a holistic reader, which means that I tend to see the shape of a sentence and I understand it without needing to read each word. Sometimes I get stuck on a word and end up reading one sentence a few times for no good reason, but overall I'm pretty quick. This actually slows me down because my mind isn't used to the way the words use and my OCD acts up and I have to slow down and read every word.
it worked! i would like to see it used in more ways to see if it still works but still cool!
Yes!!!!!! It did. From 5th grade until approximately 22 I use to read over 800 words a minute. I gained the skill because my mom would take us to the library for 8 hours a day to stay cool during the Az summers.
Oh, my stars! I've always been a proficient reader, but this actually does let me read and comprehend faster. I just learned this can be downloaded to read websites.
I was actually in a program in 4th grade where we had slides (yes, I'm that old) and some were like thus, others, every other line was bold... the idea was to increase our reading speed... it was part of our Interscholastic Competition training.
Wow! I don't have ADHD I am an avid reader and thought I read pretty fast...but read that super fast what a great method
yes this helps! There is also a font that was developed to help people with dyslexia read more easily which i wish was used more often.
I read somewhere here that also ComicSansMS were made to help people with dislexia reading easier
Wow that works! Imagine how hard it would be to type like that though.
Now if they could only make something that would help readers retain what they read, students would be so much more confident and productive!
I have dyslexia and I didn't have to pause to read some words! I love it!
Works well for me. And I took a speed reading course when I was a young woman and was taught the same technique by simply having your eyes jump through the material, catching the most important words (nothing bolded).
It would seem necessary for a person to have a considerable vocabulary before this can work: the brain can only 'autocomplete' the bold-faced fragmentsd by drawing from stored knowledge it already has.
This is great, Academic texts should use it. It would be much easier to study.
I have ADHD and I am already a fast reader. I read about 4 novels a week, a non-fiction book and an Audible to go to sleep at night. Yes, this thing seems faster, but it's not. It actually slowed me down a bit, or at least that's the impression I got. Maybe it works for others, but not me. EDIT: looks like I was right: https://blog.readwise.io/bionic-reading-results/
It would be interesting to see if those results hold up with different targeted groups. It may be that with a random sample of people, it's no benefit on average, but beneficial to certain groups.
Load More Replies...as a neurodivergent, this actually made it harder for me to read. I still could, but I can read plenty fast without the text appearing different because of bold and non bold letters...
I'm hyperlexic and was taught whole word reading, so this doesn't speed up my reading pace at all. I just read super fast, anyway.

More than two decades ago, a British photographer Tom Stoddart captured Sarajevo resident Meliha Varesanovic walking proudly in high heels and pearls as soldiers traded fire nearby. Stoddart wanted to photo document the life of women in the besieged Sarajevo. The image struck a chord with viewers around the world, becoming a symbol of dignity amidst the tragedies of the Bosnian war. Meliha Varesanovic survived the war and still lives in Bosnia. I was born in Sarajevo and am so proud of our people EyRl7qDWEA...50d263.jpg
