With so many things happening all around the world at once, it’s easy to lose track.
Luckily, there’s this entertaining corner of Reddit dedicated to documenting and sharing the most noteworthy moments captured on camera. The “Be Amazed” subreddit was created back in 2015 and has since grown into a powerhouse of 6.3M members.

A recent international survey from Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism found that in almost every country surveyed, people’s trust in media is decreasing. More and more people are avoiding news because, they say, it “has a negative effect on their mood.”
This is why allowing yourself some light-hearted content that evokes positive emotional responses such as curiosity and amazement, or surprise, is very important. But despite good news and positive content being beneficial to our mental health, like most people are aware of, our behavior tells a different story.
The researchers also found that, on average, negative news provoked much stronger physiological reactions and garnered more attention than positive or neutral news. And even though individual people’s reactions varied a bit, a minority of people respond more to positive news.

“Fake news is usually related to current affairs and makes remarkable, emotion-inducing claims. This, combined with the fact that social media platforms collect data on what kind of posts users spend the most time on and feed them content with similar characteristics, provides the perfect conditions for the spread of misinformation,” Daniel concluded.

More than two decades ago, a British photographer Tom Stoddart captured Sarajevo resident Meliha Varesanovic walking proudly in high heels and pearls as soldiers traded fire nearby. Stoddart wanted to photo document the life of women in the besieged Sarajevo.The image struck a chord with viewers around the world, becoming a symbol of dignity amidst the tragedies of the Bosnian war.
Meliha Varesanovic survived the war and still lives in Bosnia.
