Aita For Telling My Pregnant Wife She Should Be More Like My Mom If She Wants To Keep The Peace?
Authors note: Found this story on Reddit. I have strong feelings about it but what do you think? Is it rage bait?
My (32M) wife (28F) is 7 months pregnant with our first child. We’ve been married for three years, and overall, things have been great. But ever since she got pregnant, she’s become extremely sensitive and, quite frankly, a bit difficult to deal with. She’s constantly tired, emotional, and needs a lot of help around the house.
I work full-time, and my job is demanding. My mom (55F) has always been a huge support for me, and she thinks that my wife should be managing her pregnancy better. According to my mom, when she was pregnant with me and my siblings, she never complained, always kept the house spotless, and still managed to cook dinner every night.
Last week, my wife was upset because I forgot to pick up the groceries after work. She started crying and said she felt overwhelmed. I was tired and had had a long day, so I told her she needed to calm down and maybe take some pointers from my mom on how to handle things better. My wife looked shocked and then burst into more tears, calling me insensitive and cruel.
My mom says I’m right and that my wife needs to toughen up. But now my wife is barely speaking to me and says I don’t understand what she’s going through.
AITA for telling my pregnant wife she should be more like my mom?
