I Spent 20 Days In Tanzania Where I Discovered A Whole New World Of Tribes

I’m Vlad Cioplea, a photographer from Romania. This autumn I went to Tanzania, Africa, to photograph Maasai, Bushman and Tatoga tribes because I’ve always liked to discover people from different cultures and passions. Because of that, a year ago, I started my first project with my friends and their passions, “100 Friends”.

I went to Tanzania on 12 October, on Columbus Day, and I spent 20 days there. I slept in savanna surrounded by wild animals. I spent time with people from Maasai tribe where I found out that young boys are circumcised at the age of 14 and then they are sent away from the village. They have to live on their own and eat meat from what they hunt.

From Bushman people I learned hunting techniques. Despite the fact that they insisted, I couldn’t eat monkey meat. And a young girl from Tatoga tribe thought that people from Europe eat each other.

Nat Geo or Times would eat this up. Great work! You really captured the spirit of this tribe.

Beautiful work!!!!! Posed and yet still extremely candid in spirit. Sadly, probably way too beautiful for National Geographic who seems to insist that in order to be good photos have to be formulaic. These are anything but that. Please keep making images and sharing them here.

As a photographer Myself I really enjoyed this set. I noticed that everyone has personal decoration in the form of jewelry. Tanzania is noted for their gem mining near the mountain of the gods

They have tanzanite discovered in the Mererani Hills of Manyara Region in Northern Tanzania in 1967, near Arusha and Kilimanjaro. Thank you Kenneth! I appreciate that. :)

Ear piercing and the stretching of earlobes are also part of Maasai beauty, and both men and women wear metal hoops on their stretched earlobes. Also, when they do their traditional welcome dance metal keeps the rhythm.
