The Opposite Of Design Fails: 50 Of The Most Brilliant Design Ideas That People Have Ever Shared In This Online Group (New Pics)
Over the years, we at Bored Panda have released quite a few pieces on subpar design. And while these publications are incredibly fun to prepare and scroll through (just take a look at this one), we need to balance them out a little. After all, not every designer is an incompetent 3-year-old. Some of them are 4... light-years ahead of the competition.
There's a subreddit that features high-quality images of interesting designs, including architectural, graphic, industrial, furniture, and product design, and even though we already covered it once, there are so many gems on it, we need to do a follow-up. From a restaurant half-sunken into the sea to a suitcase that can measure its own weight, continue scrolling and check out the best that human ingenuity has to offer.

We, regular users, usually see just the finished product. But there's so much more that goes into actually creating them. To learn more about design, we contacted Nicole Phillips, who has been working in the design industry since 2005 and has a background in fine arts and advertising. Phillips specializes in logo design, branding, and package design for food & beverage, beauty, health, and interior design clients, and for each project, her work is unique and never linear.
"The design process requires research, experimentation, and even a bit of psychology," Phillips told Bored Panda. "When I feel frustrated with the process, I remind myself to take a step back, have fun and play. It's those moments of play and experimentation that usually create the best results, but it's those hours of research that help build the foundation for the final result."
"My clients are not paying me for my time, they are paying me for my many years of experience, so if I am able to complete the design process in 5 hours rather than 5 weeks, this is a sign of my years of experience and knowledge, this is valuable," she added.

Trying to determine whether or not a particular design is good, many turn to Dieter Rams and his '10 commandments.' According to Rams, good design is innovative, makes a product useful, is aesthetic, makes a product understandable, is unobtrusive, is honest, is long-lasting, is thorough down to the last detail, is environmentally friendly, and involves as little design as possible.
Nicole Phillips agrees with the German design legend.
"Good design includes a good balance of function, form, and fun," Phillips said. "The user shouldn't have to try too hard to get what they need from the design. Good design isn't just aesthetics, it should communicate well and push boundaries a bit. Good design solves problems."

Load More Replies...I wouldn't want it. I like my bedroom dark, cool, and quiet. I may be a mushroom.
That would be great in my city filled with seagulls! "LOOK THOSE STARS ARE SO BIG!" yes stars...
I was searching for a car and my mother looked at some offers and she told me "look, there is one, it's a luxury!it's better than elegancy!" ... "no it has a panoramic roof, mum" "yes and?" "seagulls mum!" " Ohhh yes i didn't think about that". A "luxury" car with a panoramic view on huge bird poops lol I should have taken it and call it the arty car, a new piece of art everyday, provided by mother nature!
Load More Replies...Just a 3D render. Most likely done with Cinema 4D, since that girl on the phone is part of free models you get with the package.
Now cross your fingers and don't think about a tree falling over it while you sleep 🤞🤭
It's all fun and games til a tree falls in the woods and you're there asleep under glass to hear it
Load More Replies...Nooo..... I'd NEVER be able to relax! Living room? Maybe. Kitchen? Hell yes! *grabbing my sunscreen*
this would be great for morning people, im a night owl and like to sleep during the day but it would be too bright for me
I would adooooore this, i love all the natural light. At night you could see all the stars and forest when you're lying there, and i think it would be nice waking with the sunrise. That's the time i usually get up anyway, and i think it would be super cool :)
My childhood dream was to have a window in the ceiling so I could look at the stars
Low-E insulated glass unit: coated surfaces and filled with argon. Outer side treated with hydrophobic surfacing. Not at all difficult to heat, cool or clean: just expensive.
First of all, I highly doubt you could get this as seamless and clean as it looks (how is water supposed to run off a perfectly flat surface?), and secondly, it would feel up with gunk and dirt (and pine needles!) so fast and just be a constant maintenance problem. Bad design.
I don't know if I'd like that, am terrified of lightning and any kind of storms
1) Automatic water spray and squeegy for the roof, flowing down to a garden, 2) Don't want prickly succulents as a bed head thanks, 3) I'd get rid of the black bedding, replace it with harmony of greens and 4) a plush all Afghan all wool rug on the floor would be nice for my bare footsies as I arise from this cosy nest. Climate control here would not be a problem, whoever designed this room is no idiot, that would all have been thought out in the design and engineering. Peace be upon us all.
How do you get the bird s**t off the roof so you don't have to see it forever?
Until you wake up and find a creepy woodsman laying on your roof looking down on you. No thanks.
Hail. Wind strong enough to break branches off those trees. Depending on where this house is insurance may be unaffordable.
air space, i don't know law there but here you cant own air above your bedroom. Good to keep trees high around the house that pilots don't peep. seen that, peeping pilot
Cute, but I am not an early riser. So I'd be in my eye mask, missing the morning. Just the way I like it.
It will look that pretty for about an hour. Between the tree sap, the rain, the bugs, and the bird s**t ... you'll spend your life cleaning that ceiling!!
It's gorgeous but I like it entirely dark until I'm ready for the light.
Sunlight, Heat, Voyeurism, Privacy, Smears, Security. Is this also offered somehow with this glass?
Ok but I would be scared at night, like if something is watching you. Very cool though I love it.
Like the ceiling, don't like the big windows with no curtains. Privacy people, privacy.
A lightning storm would render me catatonic, omg!! I don't like lightning at all!! Maybe there is sliding door to close it up???
No sign of the anti-aircraft battery for dealing with drone cameras😸
Just looking to trip on that platform... and who cleans that glass skylight... beautiful but impractical an a tad dangerous. So, a design fail.
I would love to see the stars at night, but it would be hard to wake up really early with the sun in your face. It would be hard to take a nap as well.
This picture can now be found in the "Happy Color" app - the colours are lightened, but otherwise, it's exactly this photo.
I would LOVE to live like this!! An expensive treehouse on the ground!!
As someone who had to switch sides of the bed just last night to avoid getting beamed in the eye by moonlight....no. looks cool, but no.
Wow. Imagine lying in bed at night, no lights nearby, seeing the stars and the heavens! And then, seeing it rain or snow, and hearing it rain! How cool is that? Awesome for me!
The starlit view would be lovely, but cleaning the glass would not.
In this day of drone photography, I could see it with one way, shatterproof glass. And more money than I could ever finish spending.
PROBABLY. GREAT IN TEMPERATE CLIMATE...NOT SO GREAT IN SNOWY WINTER. OR HELLISH HEAT IN SUMMER. :-(
Absolutely a dream of mine since I was a child of 7! To be complete it would include an indoor flower garden with babbling brook meandering throughout!
I would LOVE that! I would, literally, sleep under the stars, every day! Ahhhhhh
Cleaning sap off the glass is no picnic, but at least you see the falling branches coming...
I could just imagine laying in this bed during a beautiful thunderstorm... oh the sleep I would not get...AH-MAZ-ING
But, this isn't even real. It's just a computer rendering.

This is gorgeous (until one of those summer storms drops 2"+ hailstones). I still love it.
The person in the back all like. SHEEEESH. This is pretty neat until you get golf ball hail.
Imagine waking up: The sun: HEY! I'M HERE!! WHERE'S THE PARTY?? The person sleeping: *dies slowly inside*
I would totally be the person to jump in my bed only to jump far enough for my head to hit the cactuses
Now imagine all the peeping Toms climbing on your roof, instead of using binoculars...
I guess you won't be napping in the middle of the day! (It would be much too bright to sleep whenever the sun is up.) I mean... Not that I nap in the middle of the day... 😁
Imagine what do birds do to your car panoramic roof when parked under a tree for a night and multiply
You could have special glass for keeping in the heat - but how are you going to clean it? A careless bird flies by...
Aesthetically, I love it, but I would find it impossible to live here. Firstly, in that forested environment, the skylights would constantly be littered with debris, and a window of that size looks difficult to clean. Can you walk on it? If not, that's a design fail. Second, bedrooms need to have the ability to be made dark. I don't care if someone is a morning lark, there are going to be days when they're sick, or have a headache, or want a nap, or just want to watch netflix in their bedroom during the day. Or want to be able to see their computer screen for work, or put their kid down for a nap. Last of all, the rain will keep you awake. The idea of sleeping under raindrops might sound charming, but they're going to drum against the glass, and the drops will get huge and irregular as the rain slows, especially under trees. You won't be able to listen to music or hear shows, either. Plus, sticks and pine cones will spontaneously clang against the glass. Source: I have skylights.
I am the only person who doesn't want to. live in a glass House? The idea is horrifying to me
Everyone's talking about having to wake up early because of this... I'm kinda worried about what'd happen in a big hailstorm, honestly.
What if you want to sleep in late? The sun shining in would just ruin it for me. Yuck.
Nice but I wouldn't like to be awoken that early. Show me the draperies.
The cactus bed head… I’m just imagining what that’s like to grab onto 🤣
Stunningly beautiful, but not very practical in many parts of the world where the sun rises at 3.30am or worse!
whenever I see stuff like this my first thought is always "who's gonna clean that?", followed quickly by "how do you clean that?"
Great - if you like a freezing cold bedroom and always want to wake up at sunrise
Poor people applying poor people problems to a wealthy person’s room rendering.
I shared a house with a bunch of girls where my room was the old 'sun room' and it was horrible. Especially in the summer when it would get light outside at 4:30 and stay light until almost 10 at night. Yuck.
...and I am the weirdo who has blinds to prevent the sun from waking me. Opposites.
I actually love this because I love nature. I'm also the kind of person to camp out in a truck bed with a blanket, falling asleep to the sound of nature and the stars. The only design flaw is the fact there are cacti behind the bed. You lean back and you will get stabbed by a cactus.
Good luck on cleaning all those pine needles out from the glass room…. Beautiful but soooo unpractical.
NOT FOR COLD, SNOWY WINTERS OR,HOT SUMMERS.. GOOD FOR SPRING AND FALL!!
Freezing in winter, roasting in summer, and the sun in your eyes every morning
And then, a tiny leaf falls on it, and... Everything is ruined. They must have spent hours cleaning it all just to take that photo.
Or cool. Or darken. Imagine trying to get to sleep at 10:00pm with the sun still out.
Looks lovely but who is coming to clean it every day? The birds outside will mess it up in NO time...

Theres a faucet at the Cheyenne mountain zoo hippo and penguin exhibit restrooms that are three in one, it's a horizontal faucet, one part dispenses water, the middle part dispenses soap, and the other is air dry
I saw quite a few 2 in 1 recently in the airport, shaped a bit like airplane: middle part provides water, and the side parts work as air dry. There is no rounded plane shapes, simply the style (middle tube, and two tubes to the side from the middle of water one)

Why is the political bias against Trump necessary? He made mistakes yes, but he is all and all a good man and a great president. Besides I see no reason to put politics into this usually amazing website.
I'm getting pretty tired of trolls posting their anti-Trump and anti-conservative crap. I never see anything pro-Trump or pro-conservative...is that by design, or do you simply have a large number of leftists who read your posts? Either be fair and let both sides post, or don't post anything from angry leftists. We're ALL allowed to have our own opinions, but it's infuriating to only see stupid posts and/or comments from leftists.

Why did jesus supposedly heal some lepers in the stories, but he didn't cure the disease leprosy itself? Some people still suffer with leprosy to this day. Was he incompetent? Evil? Just wants certain people to suffer? Science has largely cured the disease leprosy. Thank scientists! Can you name a disease god has cured? Science has actually cured a number of diseases.
