One day, little Dempsey’s owner decided to take him for a walk. But little did Dempsey know that he would never be going back home. The unknowing pup was tied up outside a drugstore in Georgia and left all alone. He was suffering from severe mange and an eye infection, so the passersby ignored him until someone finally reached out to animal control and Dempsey was taken to Dekalb County Animal Services.

“He was a giant, bloody scab,” Stacey Greenwald, a volunteer within Friends to the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue, told The Dodo. Greenwald agreed to foster Dempsey until he gets better, treating him with antibiotics and medicated baths. Most importantly, she gave Dempsey lots of love and in just three weeks, the pittie started getting better.

“He was so sad and miserable in his own skin when I first got him,” Greenwald said, “But he bounced back so quickly. He went from being pretty rough and sad to being literally one of the happiest, friendliest, most easygoing dogs I’ve ever met.” And the best part? Last Sunday Dempsey left Greenwald’s home to meet his new family that will foster him for a trial period and are planning to keep him for good if everything goes well. We’re pretty sure it will, just look at him! “Dempsey is definitely something special.”
