In Fall of 2015, I did my very first family photo shoot of my own family. My wife had bought me a camera a couple of months before and until this photo shoot, I hadn’t really done anything with it.
The shoot was a nightmare! The kids hated it, my wife hated it and I hated it! The kids got tired of me trying to pose them and started crying. My wife threw up her hands and said ‘I’m done!’ And walked away leaving me with two crying children.
Needless to say, I was done too. I decided this was not for me.
Something kept bothering me though. I had an itch to pick the camera back up and try again. I decided if I was going to do this it was going to be laid back and fun. No more forcing the kids to pose. Instead, take pictures of real life, the kids playing in the barnyard and just having fun.
The picture took off and my passion grew. People started asking me to do their photos too, which really freaked me out. But I decided to face my fears and do it anyway.
After two and a half years of shooting other people’s photos and getting better at it, I decided to do my own family photos again. This time we just had fun, no kids crying or upset wife. And I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.
Here are some of the photos from my first family session compared to my recent family session.
