“Watchmen by night, hip hop heads by day.” That’s the story of the four seriously stylish gentlemen in these photographs taken by Kenyan photographer Osborne Macharia.
The men live in Kariobangi, an informal settlement in northern Nairobi, and they call themselves KABANGU. They’re “a group of real hip hop heads from the 80’s who meet up regularly to educate and mentor upcoming young talent venturing out into the hip hop industry,” writes Macharia on his website. The men teach youths about important values such as peace, prosperity, social justice and equality. “We’re using old guys who still rock the 90s and 80s hip hop look, But now in the modern day era,” says Macheria in the video below. “We want to… bring that old school…to a different generation.”
A makeup artist and a stylist helped the men to recreate their awesome 80s hairdos and fake tattoos, but as for their style? These guys already had that.
