Traveling the world, you’ll see some amazing architectural feats and some truly beautiful buildings. You might also spot some buildings that just shouldn’t have happened. Someone thought they were a good idea, but most people who look at them just see an eyesore. These buildings keep making it onto the ‘World’s Ugliest Buildings’ list. Love them or hate them, they stand out. But what if they could be ‘fixed’? Would they become a thing of beauty or lose their character?
I tasked a talented designer with the job of virtually ‘fixing’ these buildings to find out. Using general principles of good design, we’ve softened and smoothed lines, removed hideous features and unnecessary elements and generally smartened these ugly buildings up. The end results are much more pleasing to the eye, but we don’t think they’d be talked about quite as much as the ugly originals. Maybe there’s a place for ugly design in the world after all!
