Editor's note: The World Beard and Moustache Championships are quite possibly the best things ever to happen to facial hair. Since 1990, the semi-annual competition has turned growing and grooming into a high-class art form, and the 2017 edition just wrapped up in Austin, Texas, over the weekend.
Photographer Greg Anderson was on the scene taking poignant portraits of the wildest and most wonderful entries, and here they are for your enjoyment. Be sure to vote for your favourites, and let us know which ones you might dare to try yourself.

I love the way the tips of his mustache appear to be balancing his hat. His entire ensemble is perfect.
I hope they take some of these participants' looks and make them into video game characters... Or maybe these guys got their ideas FROM video games? Anyway, I love them all!
You know, up above in a post about "Squiggly" makeup, everyone's complaining about impracticality. No one cares that these interesting beards might be considered that too.
I think it's more because squiggly makeup was intended to wear out as normal and everything while these were for a championship, as noted above. I'm betting that most of these gentlemen wear their beards as normal at any other time. While squiggly makeup is actually intended to go out in the world everyday, this was more of a short time period. It's like trying to call a weekend's cosplay impractical. Sure, it may be if you wanted to take care of it and groom it all the time, but some quick fun won't hurt.
Load More Replies...This is just not my thing, but they are awesome beards. I would love to see the pics of their competition beards next to pics of their everyday beards.
who will do Davy Jones next year with all the costume and props except his beard are the tentacles
Is there a decidedly steampunk essence in this exhibition? it kinda seems to me to be so...
Weirldy shaped beards, hideous squiggly makeup... HUMANITY IS FALLING DOWN
Why guys love to roll their beard to circles....can someone be little bit more creative??
There are some circles. and there are other patterns present as well. It's like seeing 3 guys wearing jeans in a crowd of a dozen and complaining that nobody wears anything other than jeans.
Load More Replies...A day ago I never knew there was a beard and mustache championship, and now I find myself obsessively pouring over these gents and their facial hair. What a wonderful world.
Agree with no.01...and no.06 should be next. Awesome beards. Well taken care of.
I can't help but notice how they all have great looking skin. No matter what I think of beards, these guys really take good care of themselves. Bravo
So annoying. People are replying to my comment and i cant even see it.
How the heck does the guy in picture 5 eat or do anything else if he has a beard like that !!!
Oooh... I´d like to see Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane's actor from Game of Thrones) compete in this!
Love them fun for them to spruce up every now and then... Love facial hair
I think of facial hair as a relentless inconvenience. These guys embrace it with passion and gusto. It takes all kinds.
omg!!!! THIS IS SO DISGUSTING!!! I just can't believe it, I used to like bearded men... but this photos are repulsive.
Anthony (poop emoji shirt) came in with his girlfriend into Michaels, where I helped them find the googley eyes in his chops. GREAT folks, and really warmed up once I mentioned knowing Alex LaRoche. Congrats to all!
