The kitchen is the heart of the house since man first built a shelter. It’s where the food is made with love and where the day’s issues are discussed. Nowadays, it’s also the room we love to remodel, despite the fact it’s a big project, both in terms of time and money.
The most important rules when it comes to kitchen remodeling are:
– setting your budget
– establishing the layout
– planing the space.
But these are all new approaches to kitchen remodeling; not long ago, our kitchens looked much different and our parents and grandparents followed other rules when it came to remodeling. Here is a short guide on how our kitchen changed since the 1920s years.
The 1920s brought a huge change in people’s kitchens. Now they had tap water and modern gas stoves, which made the woman’s work a lot easier. The rage of the decade was the multi-functional cabinet, which provided a work center for the cook.
The sink, the stove and every other piece of furniture in the 1920s kitchen was freestanding and they all had different heights.
1930s
One decade later, the kitchen surfaces’ heights started to be standardized and the room became more colored. The sink and other appliances were now built-into the uninterrupted counter-tops, which gave the kitchen a modern look.
1940s
In the 1940s the kitchen design became compact and the surfaces were colorful. In the second half of the decade, the kitchen started to show the post-war prosperity. The cook now had lots of appliances which made their job easier, as women were now working part-time or full-time jobs.
