School Asks 100 Graffiti Artists To Paint It Before Renovation, And Result Is Better Than Any Renovation
Most schools looks pretty bland, with safe homogeneous colors and uninspired designs, but one hundred graffiti artists have just turned the boring walls of a dormitory in Paris into a stunning celebration of art and creativity.
The team spent three weeks painting the interior of a student residence at the Cité Internationale Universitaire in Paris. The artists, who were invited as part of Rehab 2, an urban festival that ran from 16 June to 16 July, were given free reign to let their imaginations run wild before the space was opened to the general public. Sadly the exhibition will only be on display for a limited period because the art will soon be erased during an official renovation of the dormitory, but fortunately photographers have documented the project so that their incredible efforts will live on. Check out some of our favorite pictures below, and don't forget to vote for the best.

I am too old for the school but if they need somebody for sweeping the school floors i agree to do it for free ;) please take me in. this is amazing ^_^
Awesome, love that happy fellow, and the rest of the wall is well done, easy on the eyes not a lot for the brain to process, which is good every once in a while
This is very different, the wall took a lot of work. I may have been able to do something like the artwork on the floor, maybe, lol
Could be diversity in body type. Diversity could mean so many things.

As a person with no artistic talent, I look at all of these and ask myself how the hell do they do that?
On second thought, maybe remodel some of these. Students would start having nightmares!
No one has commented so I will. Bloody brilliant, No points needed to be shown.. Typical school
All these are sure gorgeous, but this one might be a bit too graphic for school, maybe?
Shame all of these get destroyed they should invite the best back to re paint some of the new walls
I think so many colours would drive me to insanity at some point if I study in a place like that. Never the less, it's pity the exhibition would be gone in a few weeks, the creators of this master-pieces really made a lot of effort.
Was about to write something similar. The art looks stunning and all, but I wouldn't be able to concentrate and study there. There's just too much going on that would make me all jittery.
Load More Replies...Street art is ephemeral. It's not meant to be permanent and the artists know that. That's what makes what they do so important. The whole thing has been thoroughly photographed, and if the school is smart, they''ll sell it and use the proceeds for the school. They could also auction random sections of drywall.

I'm pretty sure it's because the graffiti is in the hallways as apposed to the classrooms.
Load More Replies...My daughter's high school art class had a hallway. Painted white during summer break, class project to paint it again each year.
Yeah, but only because it wouldn't really be be much of a school with all those colours, it'd be treated more like a circus lol
Load More Replies...I've been there twice and your amazing pictures reveal things i've seen :-) Crazy place, wonderfull pix!! dontcarebe...5267db.jpg
I think it would physically hurt me to paint over these. Wish there was a way to display them at MOMA in New York.
I want this to happen at our company. Its offices look a wee bit dull for a video games company. But some of us do try our best to decorate our desks with figures, pictures and other geekastic goodies.
Load More Replies...What a waste of resources, time and art if it will just be erased.
I don't see how this is a waste of anything. The passion the artists have put in is incredible. The planning, team working, effort and decision making are all skills that are transferable into adult life/jobs. This may be the first/only time these young people have the opportunity for others to see their work and receive positive feedback or constructive criticism. Being able to exhibit work on this scale, reaching people who otherwise might not see this type of artworks thereby giving other's a new experience of visual art is great. They may have learnt a lot about the design process, and improved other creative skills. Art isn't always meant to be permanent-graffiti or pavement artists working in chalk for example-this doesn't make it pointless or a waste. It can be photographed (another art form!) and exhibited giving even more people the opportunity to learn and experience new things. I could go on but you get my drift!

it would be fun to take a low dose of a trippy drug and explore this with friends.
At my old school we could paint on the walls in the hallway. All the paintings were mediocre due to middle schoolers painting them
The high school had the same thing and was a sight to see.It was amazing
Load More Replies...The art pieces are magnificent although it will be brought down after a few weeks... I like the layout of the website as well. It's simple and every picture uploaded can be commented to. What theme did you use? Thank you!
I love the project and its outcome. You need to hire or train a proofreader, however. It is illiterate to use the word "reign" in the phrase "free rein." A dictionary will show the difference. A trivial matter you might say. Suppose the pictorial content was ignored as well.
Make it look nice... then make it look like garbage.... how oddly backwards AF
Shame all of these get destroyed they should invite the best back to re paint some of the new walls
Many of you misunderstood, but this is not a school, this is a building where many college students live during school time. So the building is not where they attend class but where their apartment is. Sometimes it's not even near a college. But of course most of the grafittis are just stunning and it would be really magical (and sometimes scary) to live there ^^
These are fantastic artworks and some of them would even actually work in a school area.
They should keep all of some of these they could make kids like going to school more.
Amazing! The diversity of styles is very cool. Some of the results are kind of creepy but I would love to have lived in a dorm with these art pieces.
The creativity and talent is just astounding. Hard to pick a favorite!
