10 Reasons To Visit Malshej Ghat

Malshej Ghat is a popular weekend getaway from Mumbai and Pune among trekkers, photographers, hikers, and nature lovers. Nature enchants you with her beauty at Malshej in the form of dense valleys, high mountains, lush green trees, mighty waterfalls, and happy flowers!

Here are 10 reasons why you should visit Malshej Ghat, especially during the monsoon.

1. LOCATION

Malshej Ghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range of Maharashtra. It is located at a distance of around 130 km from Pune and around 150 km from Mumbai. It takes approximately 4 hours to reach Malshej from Mumbai. It is ideal for a great weekend getaway.

2. DRIVE

The drive to Malshej Ghat has amazing views of the dense valleys, waterfalls, and forests. We took many stopovers in between for the splendid waterfalls and landscapes along the way. These long drives in enchanting greenery is what really energises and refreshes me.

3. WATERFALLS

Small, big, huge, mighty, high, low, noisy, calm, rocky, dry, steep, shallow, scenic, sparkling, beautiful – you’ll get waterfalls of every type here. It is a fantastic getaway for people looking to spend some quality time with nature.

4. PHOTOGRAPHY

This beautiful place is perfect for macro, landscape, and slow shutter photography, because of its magnificent waterfalls, sunsets, cloud patterns, and mountainsides. It is the first time I captured images of waterfalls in slow shutter. This place can bring out the photographer within anyone.

5. NEARBY SPOTS

Other than Malshej, the hills have many spots like Naneghat, Nanacha Angtha, Junnar, Murbad, and so on. They are just as pleasing to visit. I clicked some wonderful images of this waterfall near a temple at Murbad.

6. FLOWERS

The hills are full of colourful and vibrant flowers. I felt so fresh and positive around these happy flowers. I rarely see so many flowers in Mumbai.

7. FOOD

We stayed at the MTDC resort and had some awesome South Indian food for breakfast at their Flamingo Restaurant. At the ghats, you only get snacks like corn, maggi, etc.

8. MALSHEJ POINT

I had such a lot of fun exploring Malshej Point in the early morning. It was a real visual treat and I clicked innumerable photographs. You will find many monkeys around there too.

9. TREKKING

Whether you are a lousy trekker like me or a seasoned trekker, there are countless trails at Malshej to pick from. Make sure you have comfortable shoes and protective rain gear.

10. TRANQUILLITY

I feel so peaceful when I travel to places full of greenery, waterfalls, clouds, sunsets… Don’t you? It makes me realise how vast and powerful nature is, and that I am truly blessed to witness it.

The best time to visit Malshej Ghat is during the late monsoon ie from August to September, because of the mighty waterfalls and greenery you will find there. The best part of my trip was capturing images of these waterfalls in slow shutter for the first time. I had a lot of fun while exploring and photographing the beauty of Malshej Ghat.
