“Yup That Exists”: 50 Weird But Very Real Things, As Shared On This Online Page (New Pics)
Interview With ExpertIt’s humanly impossible to know everything. Even though our brains are extraordinary and can store mass amounts of information, they're no match for the amount of data humans produce in a year or even a day.
However, this fact shouldn’t stop us from learning or discovering something new; after all, it helps us to feel happier and more fulfilled in our lives.
This is where the Instagram account “Yup That Exists” comes in, which provides its followers with the most peculiar and unique phenomena, inventions, and products most of us never knew existed. So, what are we waiting for? Let’s get comfortable and explore something yet undiscovered!
While you're at it, make sure to check out a conversation with Zaid Suhail, an electrical engineer and science communicator from "Scientifically Explained", who kindly agreed to tell us more about his love for discoveries and how they're important for personal growth.

Lol everyone is so relaxed. And then there's the dude 2nd from right, 1st row. Cheeks all bulged out and s**t. The fists just makes it even better 🤣 He's all (((~_~)))
Bored Panda reached out to an electrical engineer and science communicator from "Scientifically Explained", Zaid Suhail, who kindly agreed to tell us more about his love for discoveries and how learning is important for personal growth.
Naturally, we were curious to know what initially sparked his interest in science. He told us, "Curiosity has always been a driving force behind my interest in discovery and science. From a young age, I found myself constantly questioning the world around me and wanting to understand how things worked.
Additionally, Islam, with its emphasis on seeking knowledge and understanding the universe as a reflection of the Creator's wisdom, further fueled my passion for discovery and exploration. The teachings of Islam encouraged me to pursue knowledge, ask questions, and seek understanding, ultimately shaping my interest in science and discovery."

Load More Replies...Zaid believes that discovering and learning new things is crucial for personal growth, societal advancement, and the progression of humanity as a whole.
He says, "Throughout history, discoveries and learning have driven innovation, improved quality of life, and expanded our understanding of the world. They allow us to adapt to changing circumstances, solve complex problems, and push the boundaries of what is possible. Continuous discovery and learning foster creativity, critical thinking, and empathy, ultimately leading to a more informed and enlightened society."
We were also curious to know more about the process of scientific discovery in his research. He told us that it involves a combination of rigorous experimentation, theoretical analysis, and innovative problem-solving techniques.
This would definitely help people like myself who have difficulty driving at night due to astigmatism. I have a friend who thinks I’m making it more of thing than it is because I have trouble driving when the lights blind me. I try not to drive at night at all. I hug the side of the road because when lights blind me, it’s hard to see the divider.

The test was quickly deemed a complete failure, since the paint is crazy expensive (about 20k AUD per mile), wears out quickly, the light does not last long after sunset and is not nearly as bright as in the image. This is an unpractical solution in a world where light-reflecting paint exists.
This has been posted a bunch of times and I commented something similar. I'm pretty sure a got down voted into oblivion. 100% correct. Nice photo, not practical.
Load More Replies...I'd love to know where they're testing this... I live in Australia, and it's not in my area.
"I start by thoroughly reviewing existing literature and identifying gaps or areas for further exploration. Then, I design controlled experiments or simulations to test hypotheses and gather data. I analyze the results using statistical methods and computational tools to uncover patterns or correlations.
Additionally, I collaborate with colleagues and seek interdisciplinary perspectives to gain fresh insights and approaches. Continuous iteration, peer review, and feedback are integral parts of my research process to ensure the reliability and validity of my findings.
Overall, my goal is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and technology in the field of electrical engineering through systematic inquiry and creative thinking."
People I have one dream, and that's to have rats with fricken "lasers" on their backs! Is that too much to ask?
They also train the rats (large African ones, think a hamster crossed with a rat...) to find landmines! The rats are so light that they won't trip the mines!
I'm a little disappointed they don't carry a tiny barrel of brandy around their necks.
Exactly. Parry Grip once wrote a fantastic little song called "Hero Rats".
Load More Replies...Rats can be very cute. They are clever animals, but indeed wild ones can be dangerous because they are afraid of humans.
Load More Replies...Zaid was also kind enough to provide some advice to those who might be stuck or can't seem to bring themselves to learn something new.
He said, "I would recommend approaching the challenge with a combination of patience, persistence, and flexibility. Firstly, it's important to recognize that learning is a process that takes time and effort, so it's okay to encounter obstacles along the way. Break down the subject matter into smaller, manageable chunks, and set realistic goals for yourself."
He additionally recommends seeking more diverse sources like textbooks, online courses, tutorials, and peer-reviewed articles to gain multiple perspectives and insights. "Don't hesitate to ask questions and seek help from experts or peers in the field. Collaborating with others can provide valuable support and encouragement," Zaid adds.

Load More Replies...He further encourages to "embrace failure as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback. Analyze what went wrong, adjust your approach accordingly, and keep pushing forward. Remember that everyone learns at their own pace, so be kind to yourself and celebrate small victories along the way."
He signed off by saying, "Stay curious and maintain a positive attitude towards learning. Approach challenges with an open mind and a willingness to explore new ideas. With dedication and perseverance, you can overcome obstacles and successfully master new concepts or skills."

We, as humans, have more information than ever before, with 90% of the world’s data being produced in the last two years. And every two years, its volume doubles in size.
While some of us might think that this would accelerate new discoveries even more, it turns out that isn’t the case. There’s been a significant decline in the number of scientific and technological innovations over time, according to a report published in Nature.
Even though areas like artificial intelligence and biotechnology seem to be blooming, the same thing can’t be said about the fields outside them.
As of 2021, there were more than 8.8 million scientists worldwide, but the report published in Nature in 2023 called “Papers and patents are becoming less disruptive over time” claims that we can see exponential growth in new scientific and technological knowledge, but it’s less likely to be groundbreaking and innovative.
Believe me, they'd be really happy if it rained, even if it did ruin their work.

To be clear what "pigments of ... mummy wrappings" means. The European aristocracy used dead ancient Egyptians as a key ingredient in paint.
That blue is my ultimate favorite shade of the color. It's so pleasing to the eye.
Looking at artwork painted before the creation of Ultramarine pigment, then after, is absolutely mind blowing. Paintings from the 1600s and later just look so insanely rich. And rightfully so, the process of turning Lapis from stone to paint is so labor intensive that it was more expensive than 24k gold.
Load More Replies...Every color can now be made using hex color codes but this is so cool to see how they made the color before computer graphics.
Two completely different things. Additive synthesis (RGB, or light) and Subtractive synthesis (CMY, or pigments) works in opposite ways. Some color you can achieve with either system are out of the color gamut of the other.

This is a conceptual art project by Dutch studio DRIFT. Never been done IRL though, the images are edited and absolutely not real. The studio did some similar "artwork" with drones, but on a much smaller scale.

I work 4 10s and there are tons of us that won’t leave the position outside of a huge raise because it’s so hard to learn to live in a five day work environment again. I’ve done 5 day weeks for training and lite duty shifts after an injury and it’s miserable. I barely feel like the weekend starts and it’s right back to work.
It's scientifically proven that a human can maintain 100% efficiency without any adverse effect while working, IIRC, for 4 hours, 4 days a week. That's how the work week should look like. 40-hour work week has no real purpose but to make people perpetually exhausted and therefore docile.
my company is testing it. 4 days worked instead of 5 for the same salary... except that instead of working 8h/day, it is necessary to work 10h/day...
A company I worked for had the option to work an extra hour a day to get every other Friday off. Totally worth it to me.
What's the point of innovation without easing work loads for all employees. Corporate greed is a absolute worst part of human history.
So this works for everyone, right? Retail, food service, factory, law enforcement, medical, construction-everyone. No need to hire more people to work that extra day. No one will even notice.
You have heard about rotating shifts and schedules, right?
Load More Replies...Im doing the weekend work at my job, 2 days working and 5 days off. It means i have 2 days at 24hrs of work the week and it can be boring but it pays all my bills and I'm comfortably saving.
The early 20th century witnessed discovery after discovery that drastically changed the way we lived and viewed the world. Some of them include the chemical process of nitrogen fixation, which allowed to feed billions, the structure of DNA, radio, general relativity, nuclear chain reactions, and so much more.

Some attribute the current slowdown to the fact that all available innovations have already been made. The co-author of the report, Russell Funk, told Marketplace, “I mean, once you discover the electron or the theory of relativity, you can’t rediscover that, and everything else just seems a little bit less exciting, less monumental.”
I remember having to make illustrations on our typewriters in typing class for a portion of our exam.

What do you mean by "Imaginary"? Everyone knows the monsters exist but only children can see them. (Actually monsters do exist. As an adult they are commonly known as "Bosses".)
I think monsters are getting a bad rap. Maybe they look weird and a bit scary, why do we think they're all mean and nasty. That fluffy monster is adorable.

Will it wash my hair? That's the most difficult and time-consuming part of my showers.
Yeah, showering is just another chore anymore. I don't have a complicated routine, It just takes too long. It's also after I get out of the shower. Lotion, dress, leave-in-conditioner, scrunch, wash hands, smooth my bangs with the flat iron, and I don't even go anywhere, lol.

This could potentially help so many people, those with physical disabilities that can make showers difficult and possibly unsafe and even people with mental health issues like severe depression. I really hope this becomes more than a prototype.
Meanwhile, others emphasize the amount of knowledge scientists are required to obtain to become specialists in the field, leaving less time for them to discover something new.
Furthermore, science has substantially grown over the years, and larger groups of people working together tend to approach science in different ways, which makes it more challenging to organize and achieve something monumental.

I wonder if we could get him one of these...(Fun fact: he needs to get a new one every few years because the shape of eye sockets gradually changes with age, and prosthetics are meticulously custom- and hand-made to be an exact match for the missing eye, so in a drawer in our house we have two or three spare ultra-realistic fake eyes. The potential for pranks is immense, but he refuses to let me put one in the mayonnaise jar at my parents' place when we're visiting. Alas.)
I've always thought I'd do this if I needed a fake eye. Why try to make it look realistic? Get a mirrored one, or an eight ball or something.

I would have to assume that this restaurant's respect for the health and sanitation laws is as low as it is for the tax ones. Crooks are crooks.
Except you can write off food and entertainment as a business expense....
Kind of depends! I used to get reimbursed through the last company I worked for for food and entertainment but not tips. I could spend $500 at a restaurant with clients and tip only $1 (just for a dramatic example) and they’d still refuse to reimburse me the $1 tip amount. I could try to claim the extra tip amounts I pay all year through taxes but it gets complicated when I was actually a full time employee of a company who is required to reimburse me for work expenses - and they didn’t consider tips to be “required work expenses” even while treating clients to restaurant dinners, they considered that unnecessary extra spending on my part. Just like how they’ll pay me a meal per diem while travelling for work but won’t pay for any alcohol because it’s unnecessary, that’s how they explained it to me - and also just the server’s tips aren’t really an eligible expense for me to claim in Canada unless I tried to claim the whole dinner bill, which I’ve already been reimbursed for so that would technically be fraud…..rock and a hard place haha, I now work for a much better company who does encourage tipping especially during work dinners because it makes out company look good, and I still tip generously (and regularly write my representing politicians about it because I’m so sick of tipping but I won’t stop til these folks get paid a living wage)

Funk believes that the slowing down of new technology can affect the economy as it relies on progress in science and vice versa.
“And that’s not to say that we’re not seeing lots of really great progress in both science and technology. I mean, we see all these incredible breakthroughs in AI with ChatGPT. And we see recent breakthroughs with mRNA vaccines, and detection of gravity waves, and so forth,” he adds.
However, the science that’s being conducted right now tends to confirm the existing theories and knowledge rather than take it in a new direction.
Imagine being high and seeing the Luminous Deer God just strutting across the road.
This is a story that tells much about internet. Some random user published this doctored photo of glow-in-the-dark paint on a reindeer. Two years later, in 2016, Finnish reindeer herders -tired of people writing them about this "solution"- agreed to try this in a real-life test. The test quickly demonstrated what every sane person thought before even trying: that the paint would be scraped off easily and that the effect would be short lived anyway. In fact, the test proved this "solution" completely useless. A new app-based system of "reindeer warning" proved to be much more effective.
I wonder if Rudolph was involved in some kind of program like this. It certainly would explain a few things.

Apparently the gov would rather have the money from tobacco tax than becoming smoke free
Load More Replies...I'm a bit on the fence about this. I understand that the government is trying to make people healthier by banning smoking, but at the same time, it's taking away people's choices. If smoking is banned, why not alcohol or fast food? They kill people as well. I think a smoking ban will just lead to people getting them illegally or smuggling.
The government already bans certain substances and restricts others. For the record I'm a bit torn about this too. In the US today, cocaine and heroine are illegal while cigarettes and alcohol are legal. If we make more self-destructive things illegal, where does it end? If we go the other way and make other d***s legal, how many more people would ruin their lives? No matter what, we have to make a choice about where to draw that line.
Load More Replies...Exactly. Prohibition doesn't ever work. At least not without going to authoritarian extremes. Better off tackling all the things that cause addiction(s), and work on educating (not scaring) kids about the dangers of smoking (and drinking).
Load More Replies...In other words, minors under 16 can't buy tobacco. Good thing, but I'm afraid there shall one day be a lawsuit when the people born after 2008 are no longer minors: this could be considered age discrimination. Tobacco brands won't let this be.
And later everyone in the country pays the smoker's hospital bill, without any choice.
Load More Replies...We have this here in Türkiye since 1996 but it's not enforced well.
They Could Ban Tobacco Growers with Far Better Results but Then They Charge over $100.00 in Taxes for Each Carton Sold!! We could all grow our Own Tobacco it isn't that Hard Cut it and Hang it to Dry in the Summer Heatwaves and Cut it to our Specific Type for Pipe use or Cigarette Useage!!!
When asked if something could be changed, he highlights the funding process and how new projects are selected to be financed. Of course, the government wants to make sure that they are putting money into something that will have a tangible outcome that ends up pushing new products and supporting industries. And when a new project is submitted, it has to lay out its steps several years in advance. This might be a problem, as a lot of breakthroughs tend to be unexpected.
Why? Because he disrupts the flow of traffic and makes people stressed that they won't be on time, while nothing is the matter? Not someone I would like.
Load More Replies...Supposedly (meaning he is exaggerating his success). In reality this won't work. Multiple phones moving constantly at the same speed with the same relative position are counted as.one vehicle. Ever wonder why buses do not show up as traffic jams( many people riding with phones)?
Eh, maybe. 99 is more than you typically have on a single bus. And counterpoint: if this wouldn't work, what would trigger a google maps traffic jam? Because if they exist, there has to be a trigger.
Load More Replies...Fascinating for everyone who hears about it. Less so for everyone trying to use those roads at the time. Also reminds me of heist films like The Italian Job where they take control of the traffic signals to aid in the getaway.
They took control of the traffic signals with the aid of the world-class computer expert Benny Hill.
Load More Replies...Ok, forgive me if I'm dumb, but does he pay for all those accounts? Does he borrow the phones? Or do they still work with GPS even if they're not "active?"

Top heavy and single wheel in the front— this would tip over to the front/side at the first sudden stop. He should go with “artist”, not “engineer “.
So now experts are thinking about funding things in different ways. Some are suggesting that maybe it’s better to finance the scientists personally and not the specific objects. This way, it supports investigators in pursuing what they feel is the most significant problem at the time.

As a native Swede (and teacher) I feel kompelled to respond. Swedish has many vowel sounds that english hasn't. One of them is U. It's long and you shape your mouth like you're pretending to whissle The sound that comes closest is in "flute" if you make it sharper.
My cousin, who moved to Sweden to get her Masters and ended up staying, was in a long-term r'ship with a guy called Simon. Pronounced 'semen'. I spat my drink out when my gran started talking about "(cousin) and her partner, Semen"
It's not pronounced exactly the same though. Simon in swedish is pronounced -on at the end, like the english word "on". like "seemon"

I think the apostrophe is misplaced and really belongs at the end. Heat from multiple dancers makes more sense.
Load More Replies...Me too. I'd understand if it was a kinetic dance floor or something tho.
Load More Replies...Googled it. The warm air gets sucked in by vents, warm up water and this warm water gets stored in boreholes below the locations. The warm water is then used to heat the club when necessesary or can be used for the air con. So basically a heat pump. The club could permanently turn off their gas burner thanks to this.
Makes sense to me, that many people would generate a lot of heat that normally just goes to waste, and heats up the other people even more.
found an article about this, it claims they will be using air vents to suck the hot air up, and then send that heat down 650 feet into the ground, where it will heat up the rocks in the ground and get stored in them like a battery, then during the time when the space is used as office space instead of a night club, the stored heat gets pumped back up into the space to warm office workers. No idea if it actually works though. The article was from 2021 though so this has already happened probably.

Pizza in the fridge? It goes on the counter and is eaten cold for breakfast. The trick, is pepperoni and onions. The onions keep the pizza moist by morning. I went to college. I know how it works. Refrigerators are for pop and beer. Not sure who puts food in them. Crazy people I suppose.
