Time Affects Us All: 30 Celebrities Photoshopped Side-By-Side With Their Younger Selves By Ard Gelinck (New Pics)
Interview With ArtistAging’s an interesting thing and a great equalizer—you probably won’t notice the small changes that happen to you over the weeks, months, and years from your day-to-day glances in the mirror. However, the moment that you take a step back and compare yourself as you are now to a photo from before, you realize just how much the flow of time affects us all. And our beloved celebrities feel it just as much as we do.
Ard Gelinck, a Dutch graphic designer, photoshops well-known actors, musicians, and other celebrities side-by-side with their younger selves in cool poses and gives us a unique glance at just how much they’ve changed over the years. With over a decade of experience working with Photoshop on the ‘Then and Now’ series, Ard has amassed a loyal following on Instagram, with over 290k people eagerly awaiting his next post.

I had a friendly chat with Ard and he told me that he's nowhere near to running out of ideas for his project. "There are millions of photos from those celebs so the combinations are endless, you just have to see it," Ard told Bored Panda that this is what keeps him passionate. You'll find the full interview with Ard below, so be sure to read on. Oh, and a small spoiler warning: celebrities absolutely love Ard's work!

Matt Leblanc
Leonardo Dicaprio
I was curious to find out how Ard decides what image to work on. He revealed that current events can influence this. "Sometimes, I react to a news item, a birthday, or day of death and then post an edit of that celeb as an honor or celebration," he shared with Bored Panda.
What's more, the graphic designer gave Bored Panda a sneak peek into his work process and how various stars have reacted to his compositions. Ard told me that, on average, he spends an hour on any particular image. However, that time can decrease or increase depending on the complexity and type of the photos used. Sometimes, the time can drop down to half an hour or rise to two or even three hours. "That depends a lot on the photos. Sometimes it takes me longer to search than to make it."
Pierce Brosnan
Drew Barrymore
Will Smith
Ard noted that he makes all of his images with Adobe Photoshop which he learned to use all by himself. "You have to buy that software and just begin and try and practice a lot until, in my case, you have the luck that a lot of people like it," he shared some advice with those of you Pandas who might want to follow in his footsteps.
"I love the reactions from all over the world and see and read how it can make people smile and make them even emotional sometimes," Ard said that he adores how his images affect people. "Also the list of celebs who shared my work is getting longer and longer. The biggest stars like Madonna, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Jones, Michael Douglas, Tina Turner, Rob Lowe, Gary Barlow, Ricky Gervais, and Snoop Dogg have all shared my creations and that also keeps me excited and gives me the energy to keep on doing this."
Annie Lennox
Halle Berry
Macaulay Culkin
This isn't the first time that Ard spoke with Bored Panda about his project. “The 'Then and Now' series is quite old when you consider that me and my brother made the first image for it about 10 years ago," Ard told Bored Panda in an earlier interview. After a successful debut in the Netherlands, Ard widened his gaze and set his sights on celebs who are known all around the globe.
"About 5 years ago, I edited pictures for a lot of Dutch celebrities and it was a success, so I then started working with foreign celebrity photos. The first one was Madonna, and she even posted my image on her own Instagram."
You’d be hard-pressed to find a celebrity that Ard hasn’t photoshopped yet. I know that he’s done a few of my favorites already: Keanu Reeves, Matt LeBlanc, Daniel Radcliffe, and others. "When I think about it, the list is quite impressive," the graphic designer said.
Joaquin Phoenix
Brad Pitt
Julia Roberts
When it comes to deciding what kind of pose Ard wants the celebrities to be in, he considers a wide variety of factors. “I'm trying to find one where they're standing next to each other,” he said that he prefers the younger and older selves to be closer together.
According to Ard, his project resonates with so many people because people enjoy getting nostalgic and thinking about the old days when their fave stars were still young.
Bill Withers
Dwayne Johnson
George Clooney
Earlier, I’d spoken about actors aging gracefully with LA-based celeb expert Mike Sington. He told Bored Panda that celebrities ought to embrace the changes that come with time and should strive to age naturally.
“I’ve said this a million times, and I’ll say it again. The best way to age gracefully is to just age gracefully! Once an actor starts with facial cosmetic work, whether it is surgery or fillers, it physically affects their ability to work as an effective actor. An actor needs natural facial expression, and once that’s altered, it’s almost always noticeable and can actually end a career,” Mike told me.
Michael J. Fox
Tom Selleck
Ted Danson
Pink
Madonna
Was a diehard fan when she was on the left... by the time the right came along, i didn't even listen to her anymore....Left Madonna, you are the only one for me.....

Rick Astley
I see Paul Rudd isn’t in the list… because the man DOESN’T age! He’s wearing the One Ring or something!
Like really he looks like he's in his 30s
Load More Replies...There are so many comments here criticizing these people over "lip filler" and "plastic surgery" and various other modifications. Why? What's wrong with that? If someone has the time and money and wants to alter themselves in a way that makes them feel good about their appearance, why shouldn't they? Why does that make them a less valid person? I'm all for loving yourself and the critics be dammed but, if you are going to feel better, why not do it. I struggled for years with VERY asymmetrical breasts; I'm talking a full C and less than an A. Incredibly self conscious, suffered from a good deal of anxiety. Finally got cosmetic surgery and my confidence went through the roof! Remember; cosmetic surgery can drastically influence how you FEEL about yourself. It isn't all about vanity.
I couldn't agree with you more. The only issue I have is when young women start with procedures due to pressure from social media. Nothing wrong with wanting to look your best; be the best version of yourself, not a KK wannabe.
Load More Replies...This post is stupid.how can you show the aging process of people who died so young? Marilyn Monroe was only in her 30s. Elvis was in his 40s. I don't know who some of these people are. Far too many repeats if Jennifer Anniston, Madonna and Courtney c*x
Yes time affects us all. Thanks for pointing this out to all of us. Do the best you can with the time you have.
