This is possibly caused by rusting of the pipes. We get this in our laundry and after a couple of minutes the water is clear, only does it when the hot tap is on.

That is normally what you get when there is an ongoing reparation of pipes. It’s not the normal state of the water, it’s just temporary.

To be fair they said quality hotel ROOM, they didn't say quality water

I think that it was safe to drink but tasted very metallic. The water in St. Petersburg Looked fine but was not safe to drink.

What do you expect in Russia?! Even in the US, much of the public water is not drinkable. (And middle-to-upper class people deal with that by buying water or filtering their water! Because they don't care about the less-well-off people who can't do that and are just poisoned in a daily basis. The bottled water craze has ultimately resulted in the poisoning of millions of children in the US because middle-class people don't care about poor people.)

Such stupid and racist / prejudice comments here! Just and FYI this happens when the main water pipe was shut off and when it's turned back on the water flashes out rustic. Then it comes back to normal within 5 min. But of course saying this is why Russians drink vodka is more fun.
