People tend to seek consistency in their attitudes, so when we hold two contradictory beliefs and our thoughts do not align with our actions, we may experience discomfort.

Whether we're aware of it or not, this inconsistency — called cognitive dissonance — can motivate us to seek ways to reduce the unpleasant feelings it causes, such as by rejecting or avoiding new information.

(You know that drinking too much alcohol is harmful to your health, but you do it anyway and rationalize it by pointing to your high stress levels.)

Interested in how all of this manifests in everyday life, Reddit user Independent_Ad_3915 asked everyone else on the platform, "What's the worst example of cognitive dissonance you've seen in real life?"

Here are some of the answers they have received. It sounds like we're pretty good at lying to ourselves.

45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors Ugh. I had a (now ex) best friend who had a pregnancy scare. She was super pro-life, very conservative Republican. I asked her what she was going to do and what support she needed from me, and she said she was considering getting an a******n if she was pregnant. When I seemed surprised, she said, "well, it's different for me. I'm not a s**t like those other girls. I'm not ready for a baby. It's different..." We stopped being friends after that. I couldn't handle it anymore.

Yes, I'm sure it's 'different' for all the conservative politician's wives, daughters, girlfriends when they can afford to go interstate for a medical procedure.

This is waaaaaay more common than people think. I actually read a study on it a few years ago. Women who are well known abortion protesters would show up at the same clinic they protested, get an abortion, and then go right back to protesting. It was because they genuinely thought that their situation was unique, because they just had an accident or whatever, but all those other women were being irresponsible. Disgusting.

This emphasizes the ultimate goal of pro-life. It isn't about saving babies; it's about regulating women's sexuality.

Bigots are always against something until they need it for themselves. My cousin is an ultra-conservative Christian, against abortions, homosexuals, even divorce. But guess what? When her husband was always out drinking, probably cheating, she divorced the hell out of him.

Exactly. "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." -Martin Niemöller

There's an article written by Joyce Arthur entitled "The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion' and its well worth a read. It's over 20 years old but is still relevant. She interviewed women who held protests outside clinics, and continued to do so even after they'd had to avail themselves of the service, and continued to insist that their abortion was different. Some continued to call the staff murderers, even though they'd asked the staff to "murder" their own baby. It's frightening reading, knowing that there are people with that twisted perception out there, and that's its probably far worse now than it was 20 years ago.

I have a neighbor who "is the female version of Jesus". She says since she has been persecuted her entire life until 12 years ago when she accepted God as the ultimate being. Now she knows the truth. However, she is the most judgemental, intentionally cruel person I know. She said she was told by Jesus in a dream that soon "all gays and Jews" (sorry, not words I would use) will be judged, labeled sinners and either be "struck down or sent to prison" . People who have diseases and pain haven't accepted the truth and if you just believe "Jesus will heal you". Oh, and Jesus told her to take the owner to court because of his false religion (Jewish) and will awarded millions to be split with everyone in the bldg, except A and B because her and Jesus "hates" them". I wish I could have recorded this conversation, or should I say speech because I could hardly say a word.

That, and the big news story when our truck drivers couldn't take a ham and cheese sandwich into France because of the new agreement.

Ah, what about this: there's a political party in Italy called Lega which is and always had been very anti-immigrants. Racist as its finest, even against Southern Italians. Anyway, it's been heavily voted by many Southern Italians in the past elections. And that's idiotic to say the least. But it's not just that. My ex-collegue recently received their Italian citizenship. They're riginally from an extra-European country, came in Italy in the early 2000 and worked in tomatoes field (most definitely illegaly) for a few euros, they have been the literal definition of those illegal immigrants this Party hates. Well, as soon as they got the citizenship, guess whose party they voted? I was astonished when they told me, and proudly nonetheless!

LMAO! I remember friends and family asking me which way I was going to vote as an expat, most voting to leave. They were shocked when I said “not voting; as someone permanently resident on another continent I don’t consider myself to have any right to decide how YOU will live.” “But you HAVE to care! You have to support us!”, “No, I don’t. And FYI, if I chose to vote, I’d vote stay. I think you’re being extremely short-sighted, massively underestimating the consequences, difficulty and cost of extricating the UK from the EU. You will lose almost all your bargaining power. And it’s blatantly obvious the politicians pushing to leave have bald-face lied to you both about the costs and potential benefits. Now, do you still want me to vote?” Suddenly, I had “no right to impose my opinion on how they live in their own country.” 🤣

Yep. My family has owned a housecleaning service for 30 years. Over three decades, want to know how many white people have applied to our company, to clean other peoples’ houses? Five. And those five were all work-visa immigrants from the Czech Republic. We don’t discriminate or discourage any race from applying/working for us, but let’s just say that not a lot of white people want to clean other people’s houses for a living.

How about we make the immigration process less expensive and difficult? Then we would have many more legal immigrants coming into the country. If you've ever spent the time to look at how much it costs and how difficult and long the application process people would understand why so many choose to do it illegally.

The Redditor noticed that there were a lot of references to American politics in the answers. "Some people were just putting in 'Democrats' or 'Republicans' as their answer."

That might be due to the fact that over the past years, Democrats and Republicans have both grown increasingly likely to view members of the opposing party through a negative lens.

A 2022 poll found that majorities of Democrats describe Republicans as being more closed-minded, dishonest, immoral, and unintelligent than other Americans; majorities of Republicans describe Democrats as each of the above, with the further addition of lazy.

Republicans blocking Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the SCOTUS because, by their argument, "It was too close to the election (more than a year away), and we should let the people decide the next president first before we name a new SCOTUS member." Then, within *3 months* of the 2020 election, RBG dies and Republicans rush in and confirm their nominee as fast as they can before the election to make sure it's stacked with another conservative in case Biden wins. There is just no excuse for that blatant, absolutely transparent level of hypocrisy. Such defines the American right-wing.

"I don't think there is a world where people can fully live true to any belief system," the author of the post said. "Because the reality around us will give us particular situations that will force us to compromise or even betray those beliefs in some way."

"Most people aren't even aware of that; however, they are overly strong on the power of belief and the ideal of 'I am right.' And what you think in your head does not match facts on the ground is where cognitive dissonance will occur. That does not mean there is no higher morality or ethics that people should aspire to."

We don't have to rely on our memories when every single town has this all recorded. But yeah, we have flocks of cardinals up north now in the winter. They used to migrate South. We have more snow but also warmer winters.

45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors For those of us who work/have worked in retail during the holiday season: "I can't believe they have you working on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day/insert holiday here..." It's you. It's because of YOU I'm working. Cuz you're here, shopping on a public holiday. 🙄

Thank you. I don't work retail anymore but when I did, I'd always have someone blessing my soul for working or telling me it's wrong that I'm working. Well, I'm here because you are here shopping but thanks for the blessings, hopefully they'll help me through this 16 hour shift :D.

I hate this argument. It's not the customers fault you're working. It's the corporations fault. Like... customers aren't forcing the store open. But if you're open & they need something they're just supposed to... what? Not go get it? But if they closed the stores & ppl knew the stores would be closed, they wouldn't like... protest! They'd plan for it. Stop blaming customers for the problems caused by corporations! It's the same s**t with tipping culture. Shaming ppl for not tipping a fucken barista who gets paid a normal hourly wage (still not enough but once again, not the public's fault) while never going after the company who isn't paying living wages... that s**t belongs on this list.

I see this here in the Netherlands changing year by year. Where some holidays were ten years ago still a reason for all stores and restaurants to be closed (we had 4 days per year that everything was closed), nowadays most stores and restaurants have extra long opening times. Especially the smaller stores and restaurants cannot afford to loose the income but it means insane work days. Give people a break who work there... we should not consume 24/7. in Germany it's much more common to have everything closed on dedicated days. If you are used to it, you don't miss it.

But interestingly, cognitive dissonance can sometimes be a tool for personal and social change. Drawing a person's attention to the disparity between their behavior and their values may increase their awareness of the inconsistency and empower them to act.

For example, a 2019 study noted that dissonance-based interventions may be helpful for people with eating disorders. This approach works by encouraging patients to say things or role-play behaviors that contradict their beliefs about food and body image, creating dissonance.

The theory behind this approach is that, in order to resolve it, a person's implicit beliefs about their body and thinness will change, reducing their desire to limit food intake.

So a lot depends on the circumstances.

I am a conservative, however, my values are just that, MINE, not to be forced on anyone else or weaponized to hurt or shame anyone. Do I believe in Abortion as a form of Birth Control? Absolutely not. Am I going to shame a rape or incest victim for having the procedure? Absolutely not! Am I going to shame a mother of 2 for having one if a doctor tells her "This could kill you" and her position is "I got two kids I need to live for instead of dying with the one" absolutely not. I believe that my conservative values and opinions are just that MINE, for me to live by, I do not believe they should be forced in any capacity onto anyone else. We all have free agency and sound minds and can formulate for ourselves what is good, what is bad, and what we stand for. I am not about saying "Well my faith restricts me from having a homosexual relationship so it should be illegal!" I don't abide that at all. I believe that everyone is their own best steward and as such is free to choose.

@Jennifer Ness Agreed. I have one friend who always says she would never get an abortion for herself, very pro-life. However, she recognizes that this is HER choice for HERSELF and she cannot decide for other women and still votes pro-choice. And this is the friend I admire the most, because she has strong views but still supports other's views wholeheartedly.

Conservatives love big government when it benefits them. Had a conversation once with a hard core conservative about immigration and gun control. They had no problem with big government weighing in on immigration but were absolutely against big government weighing in on gun control. The ironic part of the argument? Gun control is a very prominent part of the Constitution yet immigration isn't mentioned. How much more Federal (big government) can you get outside the Constitution?

We the people are supporting all the working poor so that Walmart and Amazon and their ilk don't have to. People who work but can't afford food or health care are they people who suffer under the Right and become more stable and able to contribute to the economy under the Left. The billions they gave the rich in 2017 didn't trickle down and were paid for. Give billions to the working poor and every penny will go right back into the economy. Corpriations aren't willing to share even record profits with their workers but if they have to pay taxes they will give out bonuses, buy machinery, etc, to bring down their tax rate. It's a double win for regular people. That is why the Right focuses on sensationalized wedge issues to make working people vote for them. It's sad how well it works. People parroting nonsense talking points straight from the party leaders and believing them as facts.

US evangelical "Christians" favor the Old Testament because it's more useful to their cult leaders. The God of the Old Testament is almost a polar opposite of the God in the New Testament. In fact, the Testaments might as well be two different religions.

Jesus didn't teach Christianity. He told parables about things to make his listeners rethink their lives and try to be better people. Christianity is a religion based on the overall messages Jesus passed down to those who followed him, plus all the stuff that happened before him. Jesus was famously Jewish. Fictional, but still Jewish.

@LinkTheHylian I am not a christian, but I believe Jesus did exist, as a sort of rabbinical figure. I don't believe the virgin birth story, but he did exist. I read that there is proof somewhere in the Jewish talmud about a man called Yeshu.

That is a whole new level of ignorance. I wouldn't do either (smoke or take a vaccine) while pregnant. one because smoking is obviously bad, and 2 they make baby specific vaccines, so yeah I would be afraid the adult dose would be too strong so I would wait til after birth to ensure they are getting the proper dosage for their age and size. That matters.

How Jenny McCarthy is more trustworthy on immunising your children than any other person, especially those with any knowledge and experience of medicine, the history of mental health diagnoses, immunisation, components in vaccines, etc. Why academic scientists who receive no private funding are lying to everyone. The audacity of availing oneself of other modern medicine despite their other convictions. If we were all lying to you, we could do it a lot easier than engaging in nefarious plots raising to convincing worldwide pandemics. People aren't taking away your first amendment rights. They just want you to shut the f**k up.

Not necessarily a bio weapon per se. The city where patient zero was (Wuhan) just happened to have a lab researching gain of function on corona virus (the same exact virus we got for Covid). That lab's normal data set shared with researchers around the world went dark and disappeared at the same time. Phenomenal coincidence? Or sloppy lab controls that led to the virus escaping?

Not agreeing or disagreeing. However, I don't remember when it was or where I read it, but at one point they found smallpox vials in an unapproved lab. So yes, viruses can escape. If that is the case, I still don't think anything happened on purpose.

He’s a securities attorney with high morals and ethics and yet excuses the LDS church of hiding billions of dollars from the govt and their members in shell companies. 45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors Conversation I had with my former step dad: Me: Ignorance is not knowing something, right? Him: Yes. Me: Willful ignorance is knowing you aren't informed but doing nothing to change it, right? Him: Yes. Me: So arent you being willfully ignorant about evolution by not bothering to research how it works? Him: (instantly offended) Listen. I don't need to research evolution to know that it's impossible for a frog to transmutate into a bird. Me: I agree, it's not possible. Transmutation isn't evolution, that's a term used for alchemy to change gold into silver and isn't mentioned in evolution at all. Real evolution takes millions of years and happens because of gradual changes in DNA. Him: (storms off) I aint got time for this

They don't want to have their minds changed. They don't want to hear any explanation of anything that goes against the narrative they are being fed for hours to villify somebody. When dad was railing about the inflation last year and I agreed it was very problematic but it looked like we were coming out of it quicker than most places and we're lucky it never got as bad as it was in Europe, he asked me why they had inflation in Europe. It was news to him that it was a global event. As I explained about the slow supply chain rebound and impact of the loss of Russian oil I could see the terror in his eyes. He knew for a moment he wasn't getting the whole story and he didn't want that to be true because then he might have to question what else was being spun or omitted. That is a very scary and uncomfortable feeling that humans deplore. It's a kick in the gut to be betrayed. You don't want to believe your spouse is cheating or that your accountant is embezzling. That's my theory especially after seeing that dread in my belived dad's eyes.

When I was teaching evolution, I refused to explain it to anyone I wasn’t responsible for teaching because it always turned into an argument about how evolution wasn’t real. I can tell you if you genuinely want to know but if you’re just looking to pick a fight, I’m not remotely interested.

You should research the second law of thermodynamics, very fascinating science, everything within a closed system heads for chaos as fast as it can and only behaves properly when there is outside interference. Like your cup of coffee will lose it's heat to the room and become cold, It will never regain heat from the room. But if you interfere and microwave your coffee it will be warm again.

45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors My mother told me that many years ago, our family had the children taken and forced to go to a Catholic boarding school. She told me that they cut their hair, beat the kids if they spoke their native language, and forced them to read the Bible and forced out our native belief. The term I've heard is, "They sewed the Bible into their hands." They even outright m******d many kids while not telling the parents anything. I was already horrified, but then my mother told me that we're a Catholic family that believes in Jesus...

While it does resonate with the recent atrocities in Catholic-led 'residential schools' and Indigenous youths, this is not limited to any particular group of individuals or regions. Irish Mary Magdalene institutions, gross violations of the clergy, perpetuation of financial fraud and cruelty, encouragement against birth control or protection against HIV, sustained and intentional continuation of poverty and sickness of it's own flock despite being one of the richest institutions in the world - but despite a long history of clear criminal let alone unethical behaviour, never under investigation or any threat. Towards it's own followers. Going on missionary expeditions to save the poor in no small part to convert them by making them grateful. Not just catholicism though

One of the (many!) shocking things about these forced schools for Indigenous schools was how they handled death. The religious orders who ran the schools have many distinct rituals and customs around rituals for the dead and dying, funerals, graves, and those left behind showing respect for the memories for the departed. Yet, when the children died at these schools, they were often just tossed into unmarked graves, forgotten about, and the families left mystified about where their children had gone. These so-called 'spritual' orders couldn't be bothered to follow their own rules and beliefs due to their intense disrespect for the children.

It's always 'but that's different". People find it easy to shift the blame to someone or something else that's not them. There is severe prejudice in this country for anyone who isn't white. There is always that notion that white people are better than anyone else. I think it all got started years ago when some study or professor noted that within the next 50 years or so white people would be in the minority.

That would be incredibly helpful to the vast majority of us. What businesses do to avoid paying taxes is spend a lot of money on labor and equipment and that spurs the economy. The middle class disappeared because the corporations keep all the wealth -- they don't reinvest. High tax rates make them pour money into the economy to avoid paying high taxes -- like they did in the 1950s. That's what created the middle class. All that money spent on goods and services is then respent by the people that were paid for goods and services. It spurs competition and innovation.

Yep. Universal healthcare is Medicare for everyone and would cost much less. The billions in profit taken by insurance companies comes from somewhere, folks. If your "insurance" payments went to the government as taxes we could cover everybody. Wouldn't it be great if our ERs weren't full of desperate people who put off the care they couldn't afford? Wouldn't it be great if truck drivers could afford to get that hip surgery rather than live in constant pain while working their butt off? That is what we spurn because of imaginary bad guys who get something for nothing.

My wife, disabled, but able to do limited hours of work was taken aback when a cashier ask if the 40# box of chicken quarters ($20) we bought would be an acceptable SNAP expense for her. I told her it should be, and she should do it. "How is she getting food stamps working?" .."So let me get this straight, she is paying into the system she is drawing from...just like you, and you have an issue with that."

A very high percentage of Walmart employees get "food stamps" because they are paid enough. Walmart frequently doesn't give people enough hours to qualify as full time to avoid paying them other benefits. The tax payers support the working poor because we let the corporations off the hook.

Wrong... one of my closest friends, literally doe decades, was a wonderful black woman named Virginia. Her mother was my girl scout leader. Virginia died last year very suddenly and I'll still get a catch in my chest when I remember I can no longer call her to go see a movie or to go garage sailing, or to play some Euchre. I also have many wonderful, beautiful black coworkers who love me as much as I love them. I can truly call them friends and I hope they feel the same. How about you stop race baiting and let us all just get along?

45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors When the pandemic started, a friend of mine got really obsessed with the fact that you can't leave your home or go near people without a mask etc. Only thing is it never reflected in his own actions. He judged others but did not follow guidelines himself. He worked at a grocery store at the time and refused to wear a mask his boss told him to wear, meanwhile complaining about people coming to the store without masks and putting his health at risk.

This mentality is why we will be dealing with the affects and continued resurgence of that virus, because there are people who did not do what they were supposed to. After the first planet wide lock down to stop the spread, too many people believed that the continued precautions did not apply to them, so here we are 3 years later still dealing with a threat, that could still derail humanity, since so many people needed a haircut and their nails done, so the rules/precautions did not apply to them and their own self interests.

The mask thing is a conundrum. They are not really very effective at preventing sickness. They help, but it isn't how they were designed to work. Dr's/nurses don't wear mask to keep from getting your cancer/heart disease, etc - it is to prevent infection to you. Ideally, the sick/symptomatic should wear them to prevent spreading the infection. But they are generally the last ones to do so, so it becomes necessary for the well to wear them in a meager attempt at preventing their own infection.

    HurlWurk

I mean technically, you need the person who is sick to wear the mask to lower thier spread chances. Wearing a mask to try and prevent catching something had almost no value unless it's a full face mask that covers the eyes air tight. The idea of masking was that many people could have COVID and not know it. He's technically correct, but still a jerk.

It's free and I've heard great things about them. When my daughter turns 12 or 13 I'm going to take her and see if it may help her.

You cannot judge someone who is under the influence of a substance. Addiction (any addiction) is a disease, and those who suffer from it must be treated and helped as patients.

The right loves to conflate fascism with socialism, probably playing off the nazi party in Germany as being "National Socialists". Point out the western European countries that have successful socialist societies, and the retort is invariably, "Then move there."

45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors I don't know, like 15 f*****g years ago there was a study or poll that came out that said that a higher % of college educated people watch comedy central than watch fox news. And my mother has never, ever laid it down. Any time we discuss anything she accuses me of "getting my news from comedians", just because I use to watch Jon Stewart, and now occasionally watch John Oliver. When the news dropped that Exxon had insider memos knowing they knew about climate change, and their hand in it, my mom and I had a discussion. I cited articles from Reuters, Bloomberg, and the BBC. My mom literally pulled up Exxon's website, and basically said "See? Exxon says it is fine and they are innocent", and then at the end of our discussion, still came at me for "getting my news from comedians", when I was the only one who actually cited a news source....

He even said that "they" are forcing people effected by the Hawaii wildfires to go to "woke" classes or training before being allowed back on the island and their homes. He got thunderous applause. It's absolutely horrifying what him and his lackeys are doing to america.

I hate some farmers. "I just want to make a living" meanwhile they have 3 50,000 dollar trucks millions of dollars in heavy equipment, enough food to feed their family for an entire life time in one sitting, but still they are barely getting by.

At least in the US, that's not how farms work. For most, the land and equipment are owned by the large corporations, and said corporations will sue the farmers into oblivion if they "steal food." The assets don't belong to the farmers, and the pay they do receive is pretty abysmal. For small, family-owned farms, profit margins are thin after you subtract the cost of equipment, property taxes, etc

Just want to readjust this a little. Farmers are frequently land-rich, cash-poor. The machines may be hired or on payment schemes; they may also be shared amongst other local farmers. The criteria for Government subsidies are very strict and the slightest infringement or non-compliance is harshly dealt with. Farming is not an easy ride and is amongst the top two or three most dangerous jobs on the planet.

We have about 80 acres, rented out, in cultivation. Can't afford to farm it ourselves. Mega farming is destroying American small farms. Equipment is oversized. Other countries were smart and stuck to 2-4 row cultivators, antique tractors, and other old, fixable stuff, repairing them instead of junking them for new machinery.

My mother showed me a snapshot from her own childhood that showed, in general, her father lying on a childs bed, her sitting next to him between him and the wall. Her brother sitting on the floor in front of the bed, playing with some toys: "This is my favourite picture from my childhood! All my siblings always whining and claiming we were abused. It's such b******t. See? It's just a quiet, calm, happy snapshot of a perfectly normal family. Every time one of them starts up about being abused, I remember this snapshot and know that we were fine. Just fine!" And so I looked at the picture and asked, "What about the handgun?" Because my f*****g grandfather (the wildly violent, gambling, womanizing, utter piece of human garbage) was literally laying there in his kids' room with a handgun in his hand. We aren't Americans. So like... yeah. That s**t ain't normal. She had been looking at that picture for HALF A CENTURY, always patting herself on the back that it was proof that her desperate need to insist everything was OK was in any way accurate, and never in all that time, had she apparently ever seen the handgun. Mind blown. Best part? Within a year, she tried to show me the picture again, again telling me about how it was her favourite and proof that her siblings were full of s**t... So maybe she did see the gun.

Ive woked in medical for many years and have a family member with 2 doctoartes that did extensive research at the same university as this vaccine "expert " he paid his subjects $5 and they were children from his child's daycare. It's what made me realise, aged around 16, that my own beliefs could not be 'correct', cos that would make billions of other people, from hundreds of different versions of religions, all wrong and therefore condemned to hell. In most cases you have to meet work requirements to qualify for food stamps. We need food stamps because companies don't want to pay their employees a living wage. Certain politicians side with the businesses over the common employee and say we shouldn't force a specific hourly wage or demand benefits because they're conducting business, which is theirs to run.

I have a feeling this uncle comes from an era when nearly everything animated was mindless slapstick and swirling colors. This is partially due to nearly all 20th century animated content in the US being targeted at children only, and barely having any sort of message at all. My opinion of animation as a medium for expression changed when a roommate forced me to watch Princess Mononoke. Previously I had never seen anything with more substance than Bugs Bunny.

Mother, Olympic champion, father WR holder - child turns out to be good at sport; child who grows up surrounded by mother, father, sibling and grandparent musicians is good singer; father ex-Oxford, mother Nobel prize winner, gets into Harvard. Where is the surprise in this? Yes, sometimes it's nepotism; other times it's raw talent and genes. Make sure you can see which through your green-tinted glasses.

When it’s about physical skills, looks or artistic skills then yes, being an athlete or model or singer when your parents are makes sense. But in general nepo babies working in companies will get promoted over hard working, experienced, better educated (in the field the company works in), regular workers. Which is frustrating if your new “boss” is giving dumb uninformed orders, doesn’t like talking to regular people, the moral of the office goes down and they’re lazy, working less hours. I worked at a company and the bosses son took over and ran it into the ground.

I’d argue this tracks. The FDA is notorious outside the US for allowing ingredients in food and medicine that many other countries have banned; and allowing a higher degree of latitude in labeling to exclude any mention of (for example) known carcinogens. The US is not alone! Let’s not make this just about the US. There’s a huge difference between legislation applied at the individual level and that focused on preventing corporations from poisoning people without their knowledge.

45 Times People Didn't Notice The Irony In Their Behaviors Speaking as a leftist myself, some people claim to be progressive and say a lot of good things on many issues, but then they'll open their mouths and say the most horrible, dehumanizing, frankly nauseating stuff about fat people. This is such a good reason why being open minded (which seems to be a purely leftist trait) is such an important thing. With the world always changing and new discoveries or more violence occurs its important to be able to identify, research, and apply new ways of thinking and behaviors. It's another big example of exactly why crt is such an important resource that EVERYONE should be learning. I can't correct behavior if I don't see it as wrong. I can't learn how to correct it without information. And I can continue to hurt others when I don't want to.

It's worse than that. It's the whole leftist progressive ethos that is full of cognitive dissonance. There is a famous quote: "those people to whom we feel most akin as a free thinking liberal always turn out to be the most narrow minded and bigoted members of the community".

Both things can be true. I do love animals but I understand that in order for me to live something else MUST die. be it a plant or an animal. As soon as we evolve to photosynthesize I will be the first one to stop killing anything that can suffer. Until then for me ,it is necessary for healthy functioning body. And the animal understands that as well and would eat me if it was hungry.

I love animals as pets, and I do eat meat. The fact that I like cats and dogs as pets doesn't rule out the fact that I like eating beef, pork and chicken. It is a choice in modern way of life, and pushing vegan choices towards others is not reasonable - everyone chooses what they are comfy with. Recently, it's even becoming a sort of "meme" thing that vegans point out their position to everyone, even though almost noone cares - not because of hating enimals and trying to eliminate them, but just because it is your choice and there is no need to make a speech every 5 mins about that, honestly. I don't go around ranting how I love gardening and why doesn't everyone else start doing it?))
