Artists don't need money, right? Their work of line fills their souls, and that's enough for any human being, right? And after all, drawing or having a photography career is more like a hobby and nobody gets paid for their hobbies...right?

Well, no, obviously. It's not right. But that still seems to be the attitude of a lot of people who expect unpaid work form artists, unfortunately. A Twitter account called For Exposure is bringing this to the world's attention by tweeting the most ridiculous responses that young artists have received when they've had the downright nerve to ask for money for doing a job for somebody! From being offered to be paid in exposure, of course, to be asked to do their absolute best working for free just because; the attitude of the commissioners is just appalling at best.

Now, if you are an artist who often hears the phrase 'free work,' these tweets will be painfully relatable. If you sympathize with those with unpaid internship careers lasting their whole lives, these stories are a great example of the cause. So scroll down below to check the unpaid laborers' struggles for yourself.

Wow! I could understand someone doesn't want a signature on it (it can take away from the design), but what an A-hole are you if you going to claim you don't remember the artist.

I'm a graphic artist and I actually had someone try this....{not just claim it was his, but trying to sell copies cause it was made "for him" and that meant he could do wut he wanted with it} So I sued him, got my prints back and he is not allowed to use them, also with a nice settlement of $2,600 bucks {the picture was only $10 to begin with too}

I could understand not linking it back to the artist, but . . . editing out the signature? Not cool.

Sometimes the art does belong to the buyer like how your boss owns everything you create during working hours because he pays you. He can also sell the things you made. Although in the case of custom designs made by an independent artist, it depends on his terms and conditions.

There's nothing really wrong with this one. If we're going to stand our ground on being paid every time (as we should), we can't then turn around and also demand free exposure and advertising.

It's not exposure and advertising. It's a credit to other's work. In academics, s**t like that is a sure way to get kicked out from university. But I understand, client just can't bother not being an entitled f*****g a*****e to the one that does the work for him. And people that see no problem are the reason why working culture is in such s****y condition.

I don't understand all the complaints. Artists say that they want to get paid for their job like everyone else and not with "exposure", and then you turn around and demand exposure. Make up your minds! I actually agree with the post. If I hire you to draw something for me, I expect to treat that as any other service that I pay for. Everyone else who sells me their services is doing a job and nobody else demands that I advertise their services as a condition for doing their job. As long as you guys keep acting like exposure is part of your payment, people will keep offering only exposure as payment.

People like you are the reason why s**t gets advertised and good products - aren't. Also, people like you are the reason why libertarian argument that "good product will always be popular because people share who made a good product" is a f*****g b******t. Seriously, how much of entitled greedy s**t you are to either not pay or to not lift your f*****g a*s and give credit for a work? You literally are on the same tier as a f*****g f****t of an employer, who can't lift his f*****g a*s to write recommendation letter for a f*****g intern. You are a cancer. And I can only hope that you will die for one.

this one is by far the worst, it's worse than not getting paid for, it's having your dear child kidnapped from you, which actually people do with original designed characters -.-

i to am disgusted with the treatment artists get when someone wants their product, i would never work for free and neither should they. but this person has a point. when you pay for something it is yours, unless you license out something wich then should be said before the service is bought. games are licensed to you when you buy them this is said before the payment is done. unless you license your art to te person buying it, they should be free to do whatever they want with it be it remove the signature or alter it. i agree saying "remove the ugly signature" was going way to far. but if i bought something why should i have the artists link in my bio or description? i dont have the link to my pasta maker in the description just because i bought their brand. artiss wants to be treated like any other service and i agree they should be, and being treated equall means you can do whatever you want with the product you bought, including alter it.

Admittedly, being a creative writer with a degree I have had this problem. I have fleshed out storylines that I want quality artwork for and have been willing to PAY for, but because so many people are gun-shy due to a shitload of people hounding mangaka to do it 'for exposure', it has gotten exponentially more difficult.

I completely back this quote because of it's context. I've disagreed with so many of them and with what the people have been saying about artists, but this one in particular, I side with. What Doreen Costa is actually disagreeing with is a Rhode Island Tourism Campaign that had unnecessary expenses regarding hiring a designer. She is simply stating her opinion, which I find quite reasonable and relevant, about the fact that the leader of the campaign paid a graphic designer $1 million to design a logo for the campaign. Doreen is saying that it was a completely unnecessary expense when the state has access to design avenues they can utilise that WON't add extra cost to the public through tax. She is basically sticking up for the tax paying citizens as well as trying to right by artists. So, this should not be on here because it's got nothing to do with what this post is about. Please remove it. Find more info here: http://www.golocalprov.com/news/ri-tourism-campaign-in-chaos
