Animals are sensitive and emotional beings with individual personalities and feelings. I’m not only talking about dogs or cats. Every animal out there wants to live and experience life, even if it is just eating grass all day or sleeping. Especially the animals we mostly see as food, such as cows or pigs. These animals are full of love, care, and excitement. Joar Berge is here to prove that.
Also known as ‘Cow Whisperer’ or ‘Mustache Farmer,’ Joar proves that farm animals are amazing, snuggly creatures and make great pets. If you keep them on a farm, of course. His main goal is to show that these animals are not just food. Joar wants people to think about the adorable creatures and live life more consciously. “Saving an animal doesn’t change the entire world, but the entire world changes for this one animal,” he says.

On his website, Joar writes: “My name is Joar Berge – known on social media as the cow whisperer ‘Mustache Farmer.’ I grew up in a small village in Odenwald. I spent most of my childhood with animals on the farms. At that time I had goats, geese, chickens, ducks, and even ostriches at home. But my very best friend at the time was a cow, Rexi.”

From when Joar was little, he always loved and took care of animals

“Rexi was my ‘foster calf’ (later a cow) on one of the farms. We had a very close bond for years. Day in and day out we spent our free time together. We went for walks, spent time together in the pasture, and later I even rode her. I didn’t know ‘breaking in’ or dressage at the time. I just sat on it, the rest of the work as a junior cow whisperer was intuitive for both of us. Cow-cuddling was already at the top of the agenda back then.”

“At some point, she had to leave, as is customary on a dairy farm. At that time I was still too young and had no way of saving her. When I was young, my interests changed and when I was a little older I moved to the city. Back then to Mannheim. Then followed many years of urban lifestyle with a few stops such as Cologne, Berlin and finally the Côte d’Azur in France.”
Joar’s relationship with farm animals is similar to the one we have with our dogs or cats

“As nice as this time was, the special connection to cows and nature never let go of me. I always knew that one day I would have cows of my own. This desire got stronger and stronger until it became clear at some point that it was time to start the journey back to my roots. For this reason, I came back to my old home and quickly rescued two young cattle – Emma and Dagi.”
He wants to show people that farm animals are as loving and sweet as our usual pets

“This step changed my life completely. Since then, I’ve been enjoying nature and spending time with the animals every day. I experience a very intense time that gives me many small moments of bliss. It starts when I change into my yard clothes and the smell of the stable comes towards me and continues with the fact that I rediscover smells, plants, and animals that I had completely forgotten, but which are still so familiar to me.”
Joar spends lots of time with his cows, training, taking care of and playing with them

“I am often asked if it is as beautiful as I imagined. No, it is not. It’s a lot nicer. The nature, the animals, and the experiences impress me every day anew. All of this teaches me patience, mindfulness and changes my view of so many things. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed by the impressions and experiences that I am completely overwhelmed. The deep connection with my cow friends led me to a purely plant-based lifestyle (vegan). A natural process when you start to meet animals at eye level.”
The farmer spreads the message that these animals are not just food and that we should rethink our food choices

Joer has lots of cows; however, there are other animals on his farms, from rabbits to oxen

His love for animals knows no bounds and all Joar wants is to show that farm animals have many emotions, get attached to people and make great companions

Perhaps this is your sign to go start a life in a forest with lots of farm animals, or maybe eat a vegan burger sometimes

Share on FacebookI love this Man!!!! I've been vegan for 5 years, I feel guilty about what I ate before because it was just mindless eating. Nowadays there are so many wonderful foods including meat replacements that there is no need for an animal to be killed just so someone can have their dinner Xxx
100% agree. The enslavement, torture and murder of animals is inexcusable. Don't do anything to any animal that you wouldn't do to a dog.
