Not everyone is blindly following the latest fashion trend. Some people are focused on developing their own personal style, and want to invest in clothes that they genuinely love regardless of how popular they are.

But the industry still thinks it knows best and often prioritizes redundant items and designs while the truly needed ones remain limited and hard, if not impossible, to find.

So Reddit user Rachel_BA1 recently asked women to share what pieces of clothing they absolutely hate and why. Many agreed to share their thoughts and the comment section quickly proved that stores need to take a good look at their shelves.

Same! I've been using same model of jeans for more than 10 years, finally when I couldn't find them even in thrift shops anymore. Long story short, found a new favourite jeans, and it has larger pockets than the jeans I used before.

Leggings with pockets. It's the best thing ever. You can find them on Amazon and I've found them at Costco. I can even fit my entire Nintendo Switch in one of the pockets and sit down! I don't carry a purse anymore. I put my cards in a slim cigarette case with my keys in one pocket and my phone in the other. Nothing ever falls out and I can still get in the floor and play with my kid or wear a long flowy shirt over it and it still look nice.

Ughgghgh this makes me rage. I bought 2 pairs of pants from old navy a few weeks ago and there's no indication that the pockets are fake. Why even put in the lines? Why pretend the pockets are there? what is the point of this other than enraging someone who sees a picture of pants and there seems to be a pocket there...but oh no, I've been bamboozled once again. Stop pocket ghosting us!

In skirts and dresses I add my own pockets. Sew a pouch, as large as you want, then slit the seams of the item of clothing you want pockets in, then sew the pouches into the seams. Pockets!!

Then buy them. Shop I worked in quite often had full pocket women's jeans and pocket skirts specially advertised every year, and every year they ended up on the heavy discount racks by the hundreds because they just didn't get bought. Sales figures for non pocket jeans and skirts were always way higher, so few people bought the pocketed things it was an inventory nightmare to shift them.

I don't defend designers, but most women's jeans are very tight, so it would be hard to fit something in a pocket anyway. I speak from experience because all my jeans, definitely a feminine model, had pockets, but it was hard to even put money in.

That's my biggest clothing pet peeve! The fake pockets are really a dirty trick! Not only do I have to check to see if clothes have pockets, now I have to reach into the pockets to see if they are real. I also hate pockets that are too small to completely hold a cell phone.

No pockets on women's clothing is IMO, 100% sexism meant to keep women out of the workplace and looking "sexy for their man". I've noticed the more "professional" the pants, the less likely the pockets. And I'm sorry, but I've got back issues and better things to do than haul around a big-ass purse along with my work stuff just so I have a place for my keys, USB drives, and pens. If pants don't have large functional pockets, don't keep the company in business by buying dysfunctional clothing. Sorry for the soapbox, but when my toddler has pockets and I don't, it really pisses me off.

I have a sweater jacket, I can't tell you how many times I've slid my hands down the sides and ended up disappointed. So disappointed. There's nothing like seeing wedding dresses with pockets to counteract that feeling. Also the seamstress on Youtube who has re-engineered just about all of her clothes with - you guessed it.

Speak out bro! We need to attack toxic gender stereotypes together not fight against each others. Our concerns are being heard, slowly, but heard nevertheless. I've noticed there's more pockets in women's clothing than there were 10 years ago. There's more colourful men's clothing. There's fashionable shoulder bags for men. And man, I'm totally with you in this pantyhose situation, we need pantyhose with longer legs!

The assumption that I want anything to be pink simply because I’m female really gets to me. Plus size clothes that are just larger cuts of the exact same pattern for smaller clothes, so if a shirt is 1" wider then it's also somehow 1" longer. How many adults grow taller as they grow fatter? It completely changes the look of the item.

Imagine if they took plus size clothes built for bigger bodies, bigger bellies and boobs and then just sized them down for smaller sizes. The fit would be ridiculous. I feel like fat people deserve to have well fitting clothes like smaller people do.

To answer the question of their existence. Shoes with heels were first used by horse riding peoples because they provide a better stand in the stirrups. If you look at the whole history, they were a integral part of mens fashion before women adopted them. So ladies, if somebody points out your lack of heels, you can ask them if you look like you plan on going to war on horseback.

Shoes for women are literally the worst. Almost universally, they're designed to look good rather than to support your body. And I think most people don't get how damaging that is because it's so normalized. Shoes are what go between you and the ground! That's what absorbs the shock of your bodyweight slamming into the ground over and over again every day!

And, like, no one makes shoes for fat people. Women's shoes are so slim and dainty compared to men's shoes! Not just like, the length and the size, but men's shoes are clunkier and more sturdily built, I'm assuming to support a larger size of person slamming into them.

But, like, what happens when you're just a fat chick and you've got 200 lbs slamming into those ballet flats over and over?

Heel spurs. The answer is heel spurs.

Pants made of thin material also pill and wear through after being worn only a few times. As for icky material, how about ordering a designer name cotton jersey nightgown that smells like vomit, even after being washed repeatedly with highly scented detergent and scent crystals? Waste of money, as the smell is so foul and strong it makes me nauseous and I can’t sleep. Can’t even use them as rags, because they’d just be vomit-smelling rags.

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Tights! I think Americans call them pantyhose. They are so annoying, especially if they’re too small and they started to twist around the crotch area lol

FYI tights and pantyhose are not the same, even in America. Tights are much thicker/ heavier and pantyhose are sheer. Both are awful at bunching in the crotch though and apparently just wearing thigh highs "looks slutty"

Women Are Sharing The Most Irritating Things About Their Clothing, Here Are 35 Of The Worst Strapless dresses/ tops. I'm flat chested, so those never stay up. If I go too long without tugging them up all the damn time, my nipples come out to say hello. It pains me whenever I see an otherwise cute dress/ top that I can't wear because they're strapless.

If the dress is worth the effort, it's actually very easy to add straps. If you can't sew, you can buy ready made straps (check wedding dress shops and suppliers).

Petite clothing in general, dresses in specific.

I am chubby and built like a crushed can- why the f*ck does all petite clothing assume you are thin? I am petite in height, not necessarily petite everywhere. Am I just having terrible luck? I have two choices usually- fit my chest and look like I am wearing a sack or fit my waist and not even try. I usually buy from the junior's section, but I feel too old to keep doing so.

IDK who designs women's underwear, but I'm pretty sure they've never seen a woman. Why is there always 8cm of unnecessary fabric above the top of the butt crack? And why are my butt cheeks hanging out of the bottom, creating visible panty lines across the middle of each cheek? Also, I'm petite, and the crotch part is not wide enough even for me.

The ripped torn denim. I tried to buy some denim shorts Went to several stores. All had tears and shreds. F*ck. Buying shorts with an inseam longer than 2 inches is impossible too often also.

I hate spandex and polyester. I cannot stand the way it feels on my skin. Trying to buy womens clothing without either of those two things ugh. I put 100% cotton in my search and.....still too much poly and spandex everyf*ckingwhere. I just want a simple 100% cotton shirt/ hoodie/ whatever.

I looked at a company whose ad said blahblah organic cotton blahblah natural dyes blahblah went to their website...not one single item was 100% cotton. Not one.

I want up to date fashion or colors without any f*cking poly or spandex. I shop in the mens section and have better luck. But I sometimes want to look feminine. Not like man.

I buy a lot of linen silk and wool items. I can find 100% linen or silk or wool items no probs. But 100% f*cking cotton? No. God damn it.

Hmm. This is very subjective. Nearly all the items are just personal taste. I actually really like wearing nearly all the things listed here in the right mood. The only one that is completely universal is pockets. Why are we not allowed pockets. They're so great we mention it every time we have them.

I can move comfortably in them, garden, chase the kids, and throw them in the machine without a care in the world. Best clothing item ever.

High waisted pants.

If you’re short like me they end up under your boobs. They also give you a saggy butt. Even if you have the most perfectly toned butt in the world put it in a pair of high waisted pants and the butt suddenly becomes saggy!

I wear high waisted pants sometimes. I don't get a saggy butt (and I am very far from perfectly toned). They are very forgiving and flattering for my stomach, but I am quite tall...if you are short then they are probably not meant for you.

I don’t understand cold shoulder tops. Like, if it’s cold, why are you wearing a long sleeve shirt with your shoulders exposed? If it’s a tee shirt version, it just looks like it has holes. Exceptions are made for people with stunning shoulders I suppose. Like, if you are Iman or Wonder Woman, I guess I understand it, but perhaps a tank next time? Idk.

It really is about finding the right cut for your body- not because there is anything wrong with one or the other, just they hang differently on you. I have had to change my requirements for dresses from my teen years where I was underweight. Thankfully there are plenty of options out there, especially if you buy second hand like I do.

I genuinely don't like jeans (do jeans count as a clothing item for women? Women's jeans?). Full length jeans. idc what cut, they're coarse and rough and irritating. I like jean shorts, but when I have to wear something longer it's slacks/pants or leggings.
