A Makeup Artist And Hairstylist Post 30 Before-And-After Shots Of Clients Who Told Them To “Do Something” (New Pics)
"I don't know" and "Just do something" are two phrases that beauty industry workers have mixed feelings about. On one hand, they push you into a minefield—what if you and the client have very different tastes?— but on the other, they provide a golden opportunity to try something new.
Russian makeup artist Oksana Trunova has heard women telling her these words so many times that eventually she joined forces with hairstylist Olga Tarasova and they started freestyling these makeovers together.
After the work is done, Oksana shares before-and-after photos of the transformations on her Instagram account, and the images serve as perfect reminders that it's never too late to experiment with your appearance.

The after picture shows her with less wrinkles and more plump/ fat and youthful face. This is most likely a picture when she was younger.
Load More Replies...Love the new colour. I think I might have added a fringe? Hair stylists, what do you think?
I think she looks great without it, a bit like Christina Ricci. And I (with a high forehead myself) hate how everyone tries to push fringes on people. I don't tell people with a Neanderthal brow to shave part of their head because their forehead isn't large enough. That's part of their faces character, not some blemish you have to cover up.
Load More Replies...Why is nobody talking about her awesome eyes? Natural or contacts? I vote natural
I've been trying to tell my mother that not dying your roots AND having very light eyebrows makes you look sickly, and that the transformation is amazing. I wish she would listen, just like the woman in the picture here, my mom is so beautiful...
This is lovely and like the warm colour put in her hair, but it's going to take alot of of upkeep to keep it looking like that. To keep it in that style, you're going to have to use rollers every morning, so worth bearing in mind in choosing hairstyles..
Oksana calls this project 'Blind Makeovers' and it has been going on for about 7 years now.
"I came up with this concept after I worked in a beauty salon and saw women coming in and telling me to 'do something,' but not knowing what they wanted," the makeup artist said in a previous Bored Panda interview.
Oksana then started observing women on the street, trying to imagine the things she would change in the passer-bys' appearance. This allowed Oksana to constantly keep brainstorming new ideas which she and Olga could later implement when someone uncertain would ask for their services again.
love that corally shade of lipstick on the right! it suits her very nicely, brings out her eyes well
Love. I always was told dark hair ages you. . Wrong.... Looks great
ngl it does look better with her bang to the other side 🤣 and the color change took a few years off 😊
Load More Replies...Lovely, punky cut and colour. It really helped accentuate her facial feature and make her look younger.
Amazing how they made her eyebrows go through her hair 😻
second pic is similar to the crop haircut in new style boutique (pal version of style savvy trendsetters)
Again she looks so much happier with her rose color cut. It takes years off of her
Rock that faux hawk! I adore faux hawks and it looks amazing on this woman. They do A LOT of maintenance though and grow out really fast. They are a super fun cut though.
A typical 'blind' makeover consists of a haircut, hair coloring, makeup, and a photo. "Girls and women visit us from different corners of the country," Oksana said.
"We talk, me and Olga always find out about their hobbies and other things that could give us an idea about their likes and dislikes when it comes to looks. Then, we cover the mirrors and start creating." The clients can only see themselves after the work is done.
The one on the right looks more youthful. Sometimes a great haircut is all you need to feel a lot better about yourself
This isn’t fake! The hair and makeup have enhanced her beauty. Not a thing wrong with that.
Long hair makes women our age look old, that cut rocks, your look marevelous
Again, took years off her! She went from the "tired mom" look to the sexy wife look!
Again both lovely but the one on the right with the great haircut just looks so much happier.
Maybe. Or maybe she was asked to smile in the second one...
Load More Replies...I have no idea why you are getting downvoted. You asked a valid question. In the after photographs, special lighting is often used to make the pupils appear more dilated. It gives more emphasis on the eye makeup. The circle is likely a reflection of of ring light that is used for portrait photography.
Load More Replies...Pretty And a big change but the hair won't take a lot of upkeep. Great job she looks beautiful
You might dismiss all this female primping as vanity or silliness. Still, an interesting paper from two sociologists suggests that women have good reason to spend so much time and money on their appearance. If they don't, they risk losing a substantial amount of money.
The research by Jacyln Wong of the University of Chicago and Andrew Penner of the University of California at Irvine, used data from a long-running national study of more than 14,000 people to look at the association between attractiveness and income. In the surveys, the interviewers asked people a variety of questions about their income, job, education, personality, and other attributes. Interviewers also rated their interviewees on how attractive and how well-groomed they appeared.
Glasses can sometimes cast a glare. I wear glasses and 99% of the time i take photos of myself i get glare so they stay off
Load More Replies...I could understand if you chose different frames, but to completely remove the glasses in every single picture sends a very disturbing message about beauty standards.
Look people, they only removed the glasses to showcase her makeup. Pump your brakes....
The brightened red makes her shine. Definitely with the glasses though
For those saying put on the glasses, they are off because it would be harder to see the eye makeup
Because it's your preferences and not hers right?
Load More Replies...Apparently, you are saying women cannot be beautiful with glasses. Since more than half of us need them to see what's on our plates, that's disturbing news.
Why switch to contacts 😅 those glasses would fit perfectly with that makeup
If she puts her "after" hair in a ponytail she will look the same. I am in glasses & a ponytail most of the time and people are shocked when I let my hair down for some reason.
Her new hair colour is lovely but agree she’s beautiful make up free
Load More Replies...It bugs me when they take the after shot without the glasses. I’d rather they pick a different pair that suits the persons face shape better, or use the original pair.
I like the hair better before but the color is better in the second one. She’s a gorgeous woman though.
I like the before cut better also and agree the colour change is great!
Load More Replies...The study found that attractive people tended to earn higher salaries. But that wasn't all. It also suggested that grooming – practices such as applying makeup and styling hair and clothing – was actually what accounted for nearly all of the salary differences for women of varying attractiveness. (For men, it didn't make as much of a difference.)
yeah what the heck! I have glasses and if they tried to. take them off id be like not way!
Load More Replies...If people removed wheelchairs in "after" photos, there'd be an outcry 😅 we need glasses, wtf people
So a couple of things some people who may have low self esteem use the glasses as a distraction or a way to hide behind them. This is not true for all but a bit of info on that. Also when taking an after pic they are using special lighting to make use of angles and shading a pair of glasses would impose extra shading where the makeup artist did not anticipate, or a glare.hiding a feature that the artist may have focused on. In photography bis about lighting and angles often more than the medium itself. I am not saying that automatically Taking off glasses automatically improves looks because it does not. Also not saying the photographer does not like glasses because she or he may not and this may be intentional.
Every 'after' pic is using a ring flash. They are also showcasing the makeup. With a ring flash, you get great results but if you're wearing glasses, it's just a big bright circle reflecting back. I get it, I want to see them with their glasses also, but it's next to impossible to get a good photo, with glasses, using the ring flash. That's why, in tv series, you'll notice people wearing glasses frames with no lenses in them!
I get that glasses would glare up and make the photo suck but why couldn't they remove the glasses in both pics?
Load More Replies...You can now see her eyes! Also, to show how she looks with makeup and no glasses.
Seriously with the glasses debate. It’s getting so played our....Calm down, ya’ll. I wear glasses every minute of the day (when I’m not sleeping) and now have to get contacts because my 14 mth old just demolished a 3rd set of frames (and I am partially legally blind without visual assist). I’m getting a complex now....What, women who wear glasses have to always do so and never take them off or they’re bowing down to some unrealistic, mysoginistic standard of beauty? *flip side of the coin*
I bet that shaved hairstyle feels so nice. If I had the balls I would shave my head in the summer.
I was once told lighter hair makes ppl loook older. U was in my 20s trying to be blonde. Lol so yes i def live by that nowadays!
Research shows attractive people are more likely to be hired and promoted in the workplace, and end up with higher earnings.
Academics and researchers have various explanations for this. Some say it's discrimination against people who are seen as unattractive, but others think there is a subconscious bias, a halo effect, in which we assume that ,because people are beautiful, they have other positive personality traits, too.
To suit their face and get rid of straggly lifeless hair.
Load More Replies...She looks really happy with the change like she wants to go out and cause some mischief
A round face needs more volume on top look how slimmer her her face looks gorgeous
lol she looks like shabnam (new style boutique customer) in the after picture.
Gorgeous woman! Wow!! However, I wish they’d stop having the ladies bite on their fingers in the after pics...I guess it’s cute maybe? Just think it takes away from the overall look when a photographer says: “Now give me a come-hither look. Yeah...Now bite your finger!” Just how I see it...
I know I hate my dark spots, so the fact that the makeup was able to cover them was great - just hope it’s not too heavy feeling. She looks very refreshed in the after!
Clinique, ROc and Garnier all have good dark spot removers, various price points. Then be sure to use sunscreen afterward. You can also use the same product on your hands. It doesn't take a lot to have an impact.
Load More Replies...She looks great either way. Again, the darker color contrasts the eyes and makes them stand out. I do like the haircut in the second one. Bit more "sass."
LOVE those curls and I'm a big fan of red - having been one as a youth. Now I'm old an gray. 👵🏼
Oh those red curls look great on her and she looks ready to rock them
Ohhh wow! Them curls & that color! I have curly hair as well. One day I'll take the plunge & get this cut, just love 😍
Wong and Penner's study supports some of these ideas; they discovered that, controlling for other differences such as age, race, class, and education, individuals who were rated as more attractive by an interviewer earned about 20 percent more than people who were rated as having just average attractiveness.
Who knows, maybe some of these ladies went into Oksana's salon just before an important meeting. If so, let's hope they nailed it!
She almost looks like Veronica Lodge from riverdale in the after
I do wish you'd photographed them with their glasses for a more realistic portrayal of the changes and how they affect the models' everyday lives.
Ya so suddenly none of them need glasses? But maybe they got contact lenses
I think they leave the glasses off to make it easier to see the eye makeup, but there is a (hopefully unintentional) 90s-romcom implication that you need to take your glasses off to be beautiful. Which sucks. I'm with you. All these ladies would look just as fabulous in their afters with the glasses on.
Load More Replies...Im so tired of everyone going on and on about the gd glasses! The Afters without glasses show the makeup and the hair better without being distracted by the glasses 🙄 can you see how much her eyes are hidden by the tinted the glasses? It makes for a better after pic to really show the difference ffs
Thank you! I don't know why that is not the immediate thought. Folks are so ready to jump to the negative.
Load More Replies...I'm learning from this thread that glasses are considered ugly... that's BS.
I was made to feel that way all thru my school days. Maybe these others had the same experience, that's why the uproar over the missing glasses.
Load More Replies...Wow some of these are astonishing . Taking 10-15 yrs off and very complimentary. Great work and hair does not appear to be complicated ... I'm sure a matter of products and getting routine of styling.
Well... Same necklace, same shirt... Wow, would have thought, that's rather her mom in the first pic than herself 🤩
Why do women always have to look younger in order to be pretty? You don’t see pictures of men that say “younger”. It’s all “distinguished”, “sexy”, “powerful”.. but us women have to lose the glasses, put our fingers in our mouth like infants, smile, & look years younger. 🙄
Apparently red hair makes everyone gorgeous. Her eyes really pop now
I am just wondering if somebody else sees that the eyes in the “now” pictoure are much brighter Im just saying, and yes it could probably be the lighting but it could also be editing. IDK can somebody pls explain this to me.
I like her when she had more color in her face. The makeup makes her too pale. The hair in the after is very eh.
If you look at her shirt you will realize that it's the lighting that was inconsistent, not her makeup.
Load More Replies...I hate to say it but she looks so much better in the first one. That make up is all wrong for her. And she looks better with the blonde in her hair.
Everyone looks soooo TIRED....burden of the past two and half years...
“Russian hairstylists”….I’m guessing these are all Russian women.
Load More Replies...The makeup doesn't do her justice. The eyes look smaller, her lips look thinner and the makeup is bland with no color.
And this is why women can never win. Personally, I think she looks great.
Load More Replies...I bet the right is more her natural color. Many people do blonde just to cover gray.
Probably because they do that to make the after pic look better, just a guess tho
Load More Replies...I agree, but the hair and other makeup shaved decades off her.
Load More Replies...I like this. I think older people are often a bit afraid to have "non traditional" hair colors, but it often suits them, and makes them look more youthful. Probably represents their personalities better as well.
PEOPLE CAN LOOK PRETTY WITH GLASSES. Sorry for yelling, but I hate how every time I see makeovers, they always disappear, as if having a frame around your eyeballs was hiding the best looking part of your face.
Yes people can look pretty with glasses, but these ladies have had a makeover and if they have old glasses or unfashionable ones that don't suit their new hair styles I really don't see what the problem is. I only own two pairs of glasses and the one pair doesn't suit a lot of my clothes nor my face since my hair grew longer during our Covid lockdown.
Load More Replies...In a lot of these the picture on the left was somebody looking sad or away from the camera. The picture on the right usually had them with their hair done and makeup but with a big smile. Some of those pictures on the left would have been just as beautiful as they had a smile
Plus a lot of these hairstyles seem like they will be a lot higher maintenance than the original... I hope they still look nice when the women don't have time to style them.
Load More Replies...I wish there were more than 3 haircuts here (each with or without fringe). Every woman got either a pixie, a chin-length bob, or a shoulder-length bob.
How many red/brown side swept pixie cuts does the world need
Load More Replies...Ok, so the befores are all without makeup, and a lot of them are not smiling, and all that. And the after pictures all have makeup, they're photoshopped (at least some of them), they're smiling... And we're pretending the haircut made all the difference? Uh, okay... And to agree with all the rest... Put them glasses back on!
My hair is down to my butt. It's also very curly. I don't think I could just tell a hairdresser that she/he has free reign over my hair. I would be devastated if they cut my hair as short as a lot of these women have had. Props to them!
When is there going to be a list like this for men? I think women can look just fine without makeup (and *with* glasses). These mua's are doing a good job, but this kind of beauty standard isn't helping women to feel good about themselves without any 'adjustments'. Makeup can be fun for sure, but I can't help but feel annoyed after seeing a list of so-called improvements...
To be honest, this is why I'm always a bit afraid to go to the hairdresser's. I always feel like they want to chop your hair way shorter than necessary. I once tried a short cut and hated it. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I generally find longer hair so much more feminine and attractive on women, depending of course how it is styled and maintained. I would've been more impressed if they had actually done something nice with the hair without chopping it short in most of these pictures.
