A Makeup Artist And Hairstylist Post 30 Before-And-After Shots Of Clients Who Told Them To “Do Something” (New Pics)
"I don't know" and "Just do something" are two phrases that beauty industry workers have mixed feelings about. On one hand, they push you into a minefield—what if you and the client have very different tastes?— but on the other, they provide a golden opportunity to try something new.
Russian makeup artist Oksana Trunova has heard women telling her these words so many times that eventually she joined forces with hairstylist Olga Tarasova and they started freestyling these makeovers together.
After the work is done, Oksana shares before-and-after photos of the transformations on her Instagram account, and the images serve as perfect reminders that it's never too late to experiment with your appearance.
Continue scrolling to check out Oksana's latest uploads and if you also want to see the earlier ones, fire up Bored Panda's earlier articles on her and Olga here, here, and here.

Oksana calls this project 'Blind Makeovers' and it has been going on for about 7 years now.
"I came up with this concept after I worked in a beauty salon and saw women coming in and telling me to 'do something,' but not knowing what they wanted," the makeup artist said in a previous Bored Panda interview.
Oksana then started observing women on the street, trying to imagine the things she would change in the passer-bys' appearance. This allowed Oksana to constantly keep brainstorming new ideas which she and Olga could later implement when someone uncertain would ask for their services again.
A typical 'blind' makeover consists of a haircut, hair coloring, makeup, and a photo. "Girls and women visit us from different corners of the country," Oksana said.
"We talk, me and Olga always find out about their hobbies and other things that could give us an idea about their likes and dislikes when it comes to looks. Then, we cover the mirrors and start creating." The clients can only see themselves after the work is done.
The one on the right looks more youthful. Sometimes a great haircut is all you need to feel a lot better about yourself
Again both lovely but the one on the right with the great haircut just looks so much happier.
You might dismiss all this female primping as vanity or silliness. Still, an interesting paper from two sociologists suggests that women have good reason to spend so much time and money on their appearance. If they don't, they risk losing a substantial amount of money.
The research by Jacyln Wong of the University of Chicago and Andrew Penner of the University of California at Irvine, used data from a long-running national study of more than 14,000 people to look at the association between attractiveness and income. In the surveys, the interviewers asked people a variety of questions about their income, job, education, personality, and other attributes. Interviewers also rated their interviewees on how attractive and how well-groomed they appeared.
The study found that attractive people tended to earn higher salaries. But that wasn't all. It also suggested that grooming – practices such as applying makeup and styling hair and clothing – was actually what accounted for nearly all of the salary differences for women of varying attractiveness. (For men, it didn't make as much of a difference.)
I bet that shaved hairstyle feels so nice. If I had the balls I would shave my head in the summer.
Me too, I dont want people to think im trans or lesbian tho not that it would be a bad thing i just dont want people thinking im something im not
Load More Replies...Drastic but if she was willing to take the leap she looks phenomenal. She can carry the look
Looks like 2 different people lol. Wow! The after pic really brought light into her face and the color brings out her gorgeous blue eyes. Love it !!!
Wow. She didn’t freak when you brought out the clippers? She looks fabulous
Not sold on them buzz cut unless she underwent chemo then they honey do what you can
Looks great, she looks younger and gave it her a whole new vibe
Research shows attractive people are more likely to be hired and promoted in the workplace, and end up with higher earnings.
Academics and researchers have various explanations for this. Some say it's discrimination against people who are seen as unattractive, but others think there is a subconscious bias, a halo effect, in which we assume that ,because people are beautiful, they have other positive personality traits, too.
She looks great either way. Again, the darker color contrasts the eyes and makes them stand out. I do like the haircut in the second one. Bit more "sass."
Wong and Penner's study supports some of these ideas; they discovered that, controlling for other differences such as age, race, class, and education, individuals who were rated as more attractive by an interviewer earned about 20 percent more than people who were rated as having just average attractiveness.
Who knows, maybe some of these ladies went into Oksana's salon just before an important meeting. If so, let's hope they nailed it!
Well... Same necklace, same shirt... Wow, would have thought, that's rather her mom in the first pic than herself 🤩
PEOPLE CAN LOOK PRETTY WITH GLASSES. Sorry for yelling, but I hate how every time I see makeovers, they always disappear, as if having a frame around your eyeballs was hiding the best looking part of your face.
Yes people can look pretty with glasses, but these ladies have had a makeover and if they have old glasses or unfashionable ones that don't suit their new hair styles I really don't see what the problem is. I only own two pairs of glasses and the one pair doesn't suit a lot of my clothes nor my face since my hair grew longer during our Covid lockdown.
Load More Replies...In a lot of these the picture on the left was somebody looking sad or away from the camera. The picture on the right usually had them with their hair done and makeup but with a big smile. Some of those pictures on the left would have been just as beautiful as they had a smile
Plus a lot of these hairstyles seem like they will be a lot higher maintenance than the original... I hope they still look nice when the women don't have time to style them.
Load More Replies...I wish there were more than 3 haircuts here (each with or without fringe). Every woman got either a pixie, a chin-length bob, or a shoulder-length bob.
How many red/brown side swept pixie cuts does the world need
Load More Replies...Ok, so the befores are all without makeup, and a lot of them are not smiling, and all that. And the after pictures all have makeup, they're photoshopped (at least some of them), they're smiling... And we're pretending the haircut made all the difference? Uh, okay... And to agree with all the rest... Put them glasses back on!
My hair is down to my butt. It's also very curly. I don't think I could just tell a hairdresser that she/he has free reign over my hair. I would be devastated if they cut my hair as short as a lot of these women have had. Props to them!
When is there going to be a list like this for men? I think women can look just fine without makeup (and *with* glasses). These mua's are doing a good job, but this kind of beauty standard isn't helping women to feel good about themselves without any 'adjustments'. Makeup can be fun for sure, but I can't help but feel annoyed after seeing a list of so-called improvements...
To be honest, this is why I'm always a bit afraid to go to the hairdresser's. I always feel like they want to chop your hair way shorter than necessary. I once tried a short cut and hated it. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I generally find longer hair so much more feminine and attractive on women, depending of course how it is styled and maintained. I would've been more impressed if they had actually done something nice with the hair without chopping it short in most of these pictures.
When I look at the pictures on the right side, I think "These women would look so pretty if they were natural, without all that makeup and styling" and then there they are to the left. Really beautiful women. Whenever I see a woman with a lot of makeup, I always think that they would look so much more beautiful without it. After I quit using makeup and dying my hair a few years ago, after having used a ton of it for many years, I started feeling pretty for the first time in my life, and my face looks so much more healthy. I see myself smiling in the mirror, because I'm happier, and people seem much more attracted to my personality than before. I wish more women would dare to go without makeup.
The hairdresser only has a few cuts up their sleeve apparently. What is up with the micro-bangs? Too bad they don't show before and after pictures with the same pose and smile for the best comparison. It's easy to maximize the contrast when there is no smile and an unflattering pose in the before photo.
All the makeovers look wonderful 😍 but I noticed not all ethnicities are represented. I guess their invite got lost in the mail 🤷🏽♀️
I think they are using a special lighting technique that enhances the natural color of the eyes. That's why glasses are removed for the after shots. The light would reflect on their lenses. They are lovely.
Beautiful women, I hope this was a good experience that made each one happy 😊🌸
glasses can be a fashion statement, but they can also be pretty expensive so having a pair to match every outfit isn't financially ideal. I pick ones I can actually see out of because I have stigmatism in both eyes and I'm near sighted. Those tiny "fashionable" glasses I've seen at eye doctors aren't going to do me any good. I prefer being able to look around without having to constantly move my head. I also have prescription sunglasses (they work better for me than transition lenses) it's not just because I like them though, really bright sunlight sets off my migraines pretty bad so I can still enjoy the outdoors without my head hurting.
I think the part that's missing here is that tomorrow everyone is going to look like the before picture again. Makeup is such a complicated process which clearly shows in the before pictures that none of them were doing. So what happens when they take a shower and dont know how to apply the makeup and style their own hair?
Wonderful transformations of lovely women. Would have been nice to see more diversity in this pictorial, but I guess she only has white clients.
A confident smile improves everyone's looks. If a little makeup and a new hairstyle help provide that confident smile, so be it! Don't allow yourself to be at the bottom of the To Do list. If you don't take care of yourself it's unlikely anyone else will. Think of it like the oxygen mask in an airplane, put yours on first, then you can help others.
I needed to add that these woman are beyond lucky that their choice to hand themselves over to the stylist worked out in their favor. I, unfortunately, did the same thing almost 2 years ago. I left the salon, got in the car, and burst into tears. Not only had she died my dark brown hair completely bleach blond, but she gave me mini bangs when I specifically said please leave them long, and over the next few weeks, my completely damaged hair fell out in clumps and broke off in chunks. Devastating to say the least.
All of these women were beautiful in the before pics....but the after pics....I cant even think how to say how Gorgeous they all look! Every single one of them.
wish we could see how they looked after without them editing the pictures so much, or rather at all…clear changes in face shape (almost all the after photos have much skinnier faces/chins and smaller heads which are not entirely due to new haircut), bigger, different shaped, and color enhanced/edited eyes, natural hairlines that have been filled in to appear less receded, clearer/different colored/filtered skin (it’s not just from makeup, the skin on the rest of their visible body is completely different, mostly a lot paler as well)…i understand that makeup can be used to drastically change and enhance facial features and compliment eye color to make them pop, but i think much more of the noticeable change in these pictures comes from the new hair, no glasses, and photo editing (and definitely that they’re all smiling and look happy if the after picture rather than miserable in the first…a smile can really transform a lot about someone’s appearance)…and much less from the makeup :\
Feels like the after photos cheated by removing the glasses. There are some hair cuts that just don't work with glasses....
Again??? It's gotten so the "ordinary people have makeover" list appears on BP once a week. It's really not that interesting.
this is literally the first of these posts that i've seen that doesn't have the photo on the right with photoshop and a million other things for the makeover. and they're all so pretty! just shows how makeovers are supposed to enhance natural beauty <3
Sorry, but photoshop was at the party. I saw miraculous eye lifts, bleached eye whites, traces of dodge and burn, blurring tool, lightening of the iris, etc.
