Woman Refuses To Shave Moustache Or Unibrow And Instead Embraces It
A bit over a year ago, a Danish woman from Copenhagen made a decision to not shave her face anymore. Eldina Jaganjac, a 31-year-old tutor from Denmark, decided to defy society’s standards of beauty by going boldly against them. She became more and more frustrated by the expectations that were laid upon women in this age, even more so when it came to men who could just freely go around without the fear of being judged and without touching a single hair on their own bodies.
Jaganjac dropped all the formalities when she decided to completely stop plucking her eyebrows and upper lip hair back in March of 2020, and soon realized that it made no difference to how she felt, as she found herself feeling just as feminine regardless of the “extra” hair on her body.

Of course, her Frida Kahlo-inspired looks didn’t go unnoticed outside of her house, as unfortunately, she had to deal with various rude men on the streets of Denmark

Though Eldina isn’t overly concerned about her looks overall, she had to deal with occasional comments such as “pluck that” or with people just rudely staring at her eyebrows as if she had a “third head”

However, soon enough, Eldina found that sporting a unibrow and additional facial hair might’ve been a blessing in disguise as it helped her to “weed out” “conservative” people she wouldn’t want to be around anyway, as most of them are immediately put off by her unique looks

The Denmark-based tutor thinks that her unibrow and facial hair allowed her to select people who weren’t concerned about her looks and wanted to know her as a person

Here’s what Eldina told Tyla magazine about the way other people handled her recent change in looks: “The reaction is actually almost completely positive, but I am sure that there are some negative comments behind my back, but I don’t really care about that”

“I have noticed a few grown men stare at my unshaven legs and my eyebrows like I had a third head”

“If anything, I get more positive attention and I get to weed out the more conservative people from the beginning”

Jaganjac also told Tyla magazine that she felt tired of policing herself all the time to fit in with the beauty standards that were placed upon women

“I used to feel less feminine because of my rather voluminous eyebrows”

“Growing up, I noticed that I was considered a brute when my body hair first started to grow as a teenager”

Eldina also told Tyla magazine that: “I noticed most girls around me panicking around the age of thirteen to fourteen and starting to shave and pluck anything pluckable because they wanted to be accepted as female and tried to fit into their new role as a young woman.
Before I let my unibrow grow out, I did feel like there were extremely limited options to how women were supposed to look.
Compared to men, we are expected to spend much more time and money on our looks just to be deemed visually acceptable in society, especially when you are in public spaces.
If a man doesn’t shave and doesn’t pluck his eyebrows, no one notices or comments and it’s nothing out of the ordinary.
Just like many other women, I have learned to police myself. For instance, I used to not feel comfortable going outside unless my eyebrows were the accepted small size, and I wouldn’t go to the gym unless my legs were clean-shaven.
Now, I’ve chosen to focus on the tasks and goals that I need to have done and less on how I appear while doing them and whether people like me or not, because I probably won’t ever see them again, and if I do, I still don’t care.”

Share on FacebookI'm going to be brutally honest, I admire her for doing it but I don't think its a good look, if I left all my facial hair to grow wildly it wouldn't be a good look either. She does look a bit like Frida Kahlo though.
like me. she can do what she wants, but i don't like that. but again... who cares what i think if she's ok with that.

It's only not a good look because society deems it so. 1k years ago nobody cared. Heck even 30 years ago certain norms like full bushes were prevalent. It's only modern society deems these are faux pas because everything is shaved
I dont know about that I mean ancient egyptians shaved every hair of their bodies. Sure it was mostly cos of lice and stuff but still became a fashionable thing to do. If she genuinely believes she looks better then good for her. I strongly believe you should do what makes you happy not what society dictates. However if this is just a protest against what see feels everyone around her is forcing her to do and she doesnt love the look then i dont think its worthwhile.
Agreed. While i'm no fan of unibrows and moustaches (not for men either), it's great that she's found a look she embraces. She's a very pretty girl.
Mac and Giovanna, people who have overcome issues that shouldn't be issues often share that experience in hopes of helping others who suffer the same. It's shared courage, and it can be very powerful.
Agreed. We promote individuality, but there is a lot to be said also for "fitting in". Her life, her choice, but she will face challenges simply because being unique or different put some people off in some situations. It is no secret that "better looking" people are more likely to get jobs, get promotions, and have others have a positive opinion of them. Whether we like it or not, we are a species that subconsciously prefers the norm. It is a conscious effort to break free of that and that is a challenge not everyone can or will rise to.
Don’t worry, this post is full of shït anyway. She has a conventionally beautiful face so it’s acceptable. If she had any other flaws, she wouldn’t make headlines.
Brutally honest she'd look better with shorter hair I'd think, but that's equally irrelevant.
Good for her! Remember, she isn't here to please you. What you think doesn't matter. Women (or men) shouldn't have to pluck their hairs, wear makeup if they don't care to. We do not owe to the society to look beautiful, attractive, neat or even acceptable. The only thing that should be required is to keep one hygiene so that they don't smell, and all other things are up to you.
Apparently she cares what other people think about her, so it matters...

I feel very touched by this. She looks fierce, and she is bloody gorgeous. It's always so funny to me how men assume that all women care about being attractive to them, and make comments about our bodies and faces as if it's any of their business.
That’s what makes this stupid. She’s already pretty. She has extra hair. If she wasn’t “bloody gorgeous” people would say something different or ignore her completely. Give that chick a double chin and downturned eyes, lower cheek bones, and then see who calls it cute.
She apparently cares how others think about them. And she'll be the next one to complain on social media that she can't find that high value man that she thinks she's entitled to.
The Frida Kahlo look, I like it! And she would have been considered a great beauty in ancient Greece. They used to glue hair in between their eyebrows because that was hot back then -- I kid you not.
I personally wouldn't do this but i kind of understand her, being a woman is so much work. We even have to shave our faces now lol
I have the same problem like her - a moustache and unibrow - and I am ashamed of that. On the other hand, I don’t like to shave it because I want more tolerance
You can only do what makes you happy. I don't think you should be ashamed, you are made the way you are. Most women are probably far hairier than the face they present to the world. It's sad that we feel this way about what is natural. More tolerance would be good and we should all aim to be part of that but don't feel you are responsible for it either.

And that’s what makes this nonsense. Because she is “actually quite pretty” and just has hair on top. If she were regular or had an asymmetrical face, a wonky jaw or wrinkles on her forehead / crows feet, you wouldn’t be giving her a pass. You gave her a pass because she’s “actually quite pretty.”

Most men get away with a lot of nasty looks . many have poor hygiene hair coming out of every where and yet they expect. Women to look a certain way . good for her .
She's gorgeous, hands down. Unqualified statement. And no, I don't have a hair fetish or something - I'm just a normal middle aged dude that wonders what all the fuss is about so far as women being expected to shave the majority of their bodies. Doesn't bother me in the least when my wife doesn't shave her legs and I'm glad she's finally come to believe me and doesn't fret about it any more.
I think one of the most underrated parts of being alive and living, is loving yourself as you simply as you are. People say they do, but then compete with others. It's actualy one of the best parts of living and being alive.
She can do whatever she wants. You wouldn’t go up to someone with a tattoo and say they look bad and would be better without it. Some people tattoo themselves for attention but mostly they do it as a form of self expression which is none of our concern.
i wish i had brows! even a unibrow. g-d had a sense of humor when it came to body hair and me because i have hair where is shouldn't belong and no hair where it should. my brows are actually 'half-brows' as they go up to an arch but then...nothing. imagine mr. spock or a constant state of surprise look. however, in my youth i had enough hair on my legs to weave 17 blankets. at least, with age, things have gotten better but still no brows.
I sympathise! Mine are pale and invisible - it looks like I have no eyebrows at all! The only time they really show is if they're glinting in the sun! Oh well, there are far worse problems to have.
THIS! Shaving/ plunking all the time is exhausting! You go woman! I'm proud you walk the planet.
Being brutally honest..she a pretty woman with or without the hair... Now try this as a plain jane
Thank you Leo! Let’s wipe some of that makeup away and add 20 pounds or 10 years and see how complimentary people are. Give that girl a chunky neck or crooked teeth and let’s talk then. You’re the only person who pointed this out.
Well then don't complain if unjust things happen. I disagree with such things but our society just isn't there yet. We still place our judgement, probably too much, based on a person's appearance. I don't know if it's just me, but dressing differently could mean being ignored by businesses or getting top notch service. It's sad and wrong in my eyes but it is what it is.
I've never shaved my pits, went swimming and MY FATHER told me to shave my pits. .-. I still have not.
Love the Frida Kahlo look! Did you know in ancient Greece, women glued hair to their faces to make a unibrow? Consider it bringing back an ancient classic.
I feel like everyone should make their own decisions about their bodies. That being said, I don't think that finding her facial and body hair off putting makes anyone a bad person. I can dislike someone's haircut, clothes, and/or shoes without being a mean or judgemental person. The point where my personal opinion becomes hurtful to the other person is where there is a problem. I honestly think her calling people who don't like it "more conservative" is just as judgemental. It's an interesting choice of terms because I don't think disliking her choice is a negative about the other person. Again, unless they are hurtful towards her it's only a matter of opinion. It makes me wonder, is she really just looking for validation?? She did end up doing multiple interviews with magazines based on this choice.
Eldina you are beautiful. May you inspire the demise of ingrained patrirchial views, inspire strength in women who feel compelled to be hairless, and bring light to dark minds.
It’s good that this woman is doing what she wants! But I wouldn’t do this... it makes me uncomfortable.
Rofl, standards of beauty have been around for millennia. As long as humans have been around - hence clothing. Maybe she should shed that too? Egyptians plucked hair and wore makeup, chinese, american indians, etc..... Sure, conservatives may be more attractive, but now they are the arbiters of beauty?
I think she's stunning, frankly. I never do anything with my eyebrows (they're thick, I figure they're supposed to be) but have been dealing with a moustache/beard since I was a teen. It's boring to deal with.
And it’s an easy way for grown men to weed out the relatively normal woman from the aspiring serial killers. More women should think about doing this.
She's the opposite of the Aerosmith song "Dude Looks Like A Lady".
A heavy stache on women can be a sign of hormonal disorders, too many androgens. - make sex hormones. I’d get checked out before accepting it as normal.
I have a stache and it’s partly for that very reason and partly just because I’m a hairy middle eastern girl. My hair is on double time. Lots of androgens. I have PCOS. Nothing wrong with her getting her levels checked but she could just be hairy.
Ok we get it but... you really aren't proving the point you think you are proving
It is a little shocking but then I check myself and wonder why I feel like that. When I was younger it was commonplace for women to have 'sideburns' and hairy arms. No one batted an eye. But this ha become socially unacceptable. We are expected to be completely hairless - and don't even get me started about shaving 'down below'!!
I admire her courage so much. And, not that it matters what I think, but I think she looks GORGEOUS with thoze amazing brows.
Well. Great. I think it’s ugly, but I would never tell her that, because it’s none of my business. She’s not going to change our perception of beauty though.
Oh look, an adult mammal. Good for her, good for everyone! Hopefully after all the lockdowns, many women will be free of the razors. Unless they enjoy the way it looks and feels for themselves, then, do what ya do!
I respect her decision. She has every right to look the way she wants to, but I reserve every right not to like it. But I'm sure some one else, that matters, will like it, and that's the only thing that counts.
Actually, the only thing that counts is if SHE likes it.
Load More Replies...She looks very offputting. humans, like many creatures strive to be more attractive to the opposite sex. Its natural and promotes the proliferation of our species. She is not maintaining her eyebrows and mustache to rage against modern beauty standards, she is probably doing it because she enjoys the attention she gets for her "bravery" yet she wears make up, has earrings, probably wears nice dresses on occasion, maybe carries a nice purse. All things that people subconsciously or consciously do to appeal to societal beauty standards. Its nature and there is nothing wrong with it.
How ironic that last part of your comment is. Her hair is natural, too. As natural as it gets. And there is nothing wrong with it. She accepts herself, and her hair is part of that. How odd that men always think that women do everything for their attention. She clearly isn't thinking about men's attention, and why should she? So many more important things to think about. As for fashion choices, makeup, etc., women are doing that for ourselves and each other. Not men. We dress to please ourselves and our fellow women. Let that one sink in for awhile.
Load More Replies...Wait - so you are saying that we do dress to please "fellow women" but not men? I have never heard the bit about women before but I can believe that that is true for some. Personally, I dress nicely because I want to, end of. So that generalisation does not stretch to me and probably many others. And some women do dress to impress men..... and many other reasons....
Yep. Of course some are very critical but so are men. People are individuals and being critical isn't a sex related characteristic. I always find it frustrating with people who think men are never bitchy - one of the worst bitches I know is my brother in law.
Ugh, what a bore you are. Maybe YOU are offputting to many others when you share such opinions?
I both agree and disagree with you. Yes, I agree she looks off putting, I wish it wasn't so but I do feel that way. I believe that people are attracted to healthy people, they would be a good mating partner (Good genes for the kids and a father figure not dropping dead suddenly). I also know for a fact that what is considered beautiful also changes over time, as a modern example in the late 90s and early 2000, it was cool to be a skinny stick figure. Now its all about the curves and big butts. For an ancient example, in the medieval era, rich women were expected to have soft hands and rolls. And poor women were preferred to be "butch" since they were stronger to help with the farm work and wide hips for birthing kids. Healthy comes in many shapes and forms and I hope in the future we accept and enjoy people not having to change their looks and bodies to conform e.g. the corset hourglass figure. I would love to not have to shave and pluck everyday and still be considered beautiful.
I don't care why she's doing it, I'm just glad that she is breaking the norms where we as women have to change our bodies in order to function in society.
It may be natural for lower animals to strive to be more attractive but humans are more developed and supposedly the most intelligent species on Earth, I think that we should probably have moved past picking a partner just for their looks and should be able to look past appearances and focus on character. Of course we can have standards and a "type" that we are attracted to, but I think "beautifying" yourself can be a personal choice based on what you want, not just what you think others will want.
What is it with feminists always finding the stupidest things to posture about? Men also get judged on their looks, usually by hypocritical feminists who decry "body shaming" but have no problem body shaming men. Most men shave and those that don't are often referred to as "neckbeards" by self - described feminists. This comment thread is as ridiculous as it is stupid. If she doesn't want to shave, fine but this isn't some grand victory for women everywhere.
Sorry, but you look like a circus side show barker. I notice you are wearing lipstick and make-up. Why? If you are trying to look nicer, shave the stash and brow. Even a man looks dumb with a uni-brow.
Everyone is beautiful...some picture pointing about it but some picture I wouldn't recognize...I have natural girls around me even with wee mustache and I don't see the mustaches I see beutiful woman...I don't shave legs and o don't shave pubic....I look after myself but why to shave who said it.?
Beauty has been scientifically studied. Symmetrical features are a big part of beauty. The right and Left side must be groomed to appear symmetrical. If it is natural, even better. Why are we evolved to see symmetry as beauty? It shows genetic soundness. Fitness and natural beauty show genetic soundness. We pick up on it, and find it desirable on a subconscious level. Preferences beyond symmetry and fitness are fashion trends and culture, and are superfluous.
Wow. Laziness rewarded with 15 seconds of fame. Pretending you aren't a narcissist by being a narcissist. How woke.
I can honestly say, I appreciate the fact that she’s doing this. It’s an easy way for a guy to weed out the aspiring serial killers from the relatively normal women. More should try it.
If anything I'm worried about her, excess facial and body hair might be the symptome of PCOS, which is not a joke. Or in the best case scenario some other hormonal disorder. It's very dangerous to ignore these things because of self-acceptance. I hope she's okay.
I mean, men who stop shaving their faces and grow beards down to their lap get funny looks, too. And plenty of people don't think long, untrimmed beards look good. It's no different for the men than it is for her. Same goes for men with thick unibrows.
Like men are the only ones who look at her. I admit I don't have an an answer or complete opinion about this: on one hand I admit people should have the freedom to do what they feel comfortable doing, but n the other hand I admit that we live in a society and it might be very hard to do that and in the end she might get hurt, and also it might be off-putting to others.
I think she's very beautiful and very brave, when you consider the eco-price of billions-upon-billions of shaves, depilations and waxings (and the production of the associated paraphernalia and equipment), we will have to go down the more hair root and than means shallow men and posy women getting educated unto what we actually look like!
That's her right and nobody can tell her what to do. Personally, I don't find this attractive, not because of society's beauty standards but of my own. However, I would not presume to tell her to shave just to please my stranger's eye. She has no obligation to visually appeal to anybody.
Do what you want. Have a tattoo in your face, piercings, don't shave, what ever. I personally don't find it attractive..
I think she’s amazing that she doesn’t care what others think but imho it’s a bit wild. I’m not trying to be mean but that’s what I think. She seems like a great person tho
I never understood why people think anyone cares about how they look or how they "should" look.
Because people judge others all the time on their outward appearance. I agree they shouldn't but we can't ignore reality. We can only do our best not to join in with it. One place I worked there was a little child, multiple disabilities, not the typical cute that people coo over and my colleague was 'ugh, look at that'. That little girl broke my heart quite frankly. My loathsome colleague didn't see how she was laughing and the way it lit up her little face.
no. it's normal to have body/face hair. so chill, please.
You only think that because your 'normal' is shaved. But that's not actually normal. It's a societal expectation that is reinforced in media etc, even in these comments. It doesn't look any more horrible than dark skin or anything else that is just a natural product of our bodies existing. Just because you think it looks abnormal doesn't mean it looks bad.
Load More Replies...Beauty IS a social construct. Of course it is. By refusing it she just wants to stand out. And she does stand out because everyone (including here) look at that pic and thinks "oh my God". So by actively being non-conformant to what is basically a social norm, 1. You will be considered ugly 2. You WANT to be considered ugly. I see no actual point in acting like this.
The thing is, if no want would remove facial hair, this would still be something that stands out. We are nothing more than pattern recognizing meat sacks and this pattern stands out. If beauty is some image of commonality, regularity and evenness, then being an extreme in either property will be considered the opposite. And since she's young and her monkey brain is still very much set on the importance of social standing within a society, I give it a few weeks before she returns to something less notable.
Says the woman who is bitching on every comment.
Load More Replies...She’s bitching at men who are whining though, not bitching unprompted. So that doesn’t work.
Because "societal standards of beauty" are irrelevant and immaterial.

No need to make up all these fancy excuses. Also, when it comes to people's appearance, it IS all about them, and is actually none of your business. If you're personally offended by a woman who doesn't give a rat's ass that you don't find her attractive, might be time to take a deep look inside your head.

Load More Replies...So, you're going to go out of your way to offend others who have to breathe in your stink molecules? Just admit you already don't bother to wash your ass, and go. No need to make up all these fancy excuses. Also, when it comes to people's appearance, it IS all about them, and is actually none of your business. If you're personally offended by a woman who doesn't give a rat's ass that you don't find her attractive, might be time to take a deep look inside your head.
