As Kiah Twisselman has proven, the best weight loss results don’t come from “bean counting,” fad diets, or harsh food restrictions, but from self-love and patience. The 27-year-old started her journey almost 2 years ago when she read Rachel Hollis’ book “Girl, Wash Your Face.” She decided to follow Hollis’ plan of five simple habits: woke up an hour earlier, moved her body 30 minutes a day, drank half her body weight in ounces of water, and began daily journaling and intuitive eating. And what’s even more amazing is that she has done so without ever setting foot in a gym. Which also makes it a great go-to weight loss routine for the most likely upcoming quarantine!

She started out in October 2018, and by January 2019, she had already managed to lose 25 pounds; the result inspired her to set a greater, and more satisfying, challenge of losing 100 by the next October. Keeping in mind that you’re already reading an article about her, try to guess if she has done it. Spoilers! She did it, and what’s more, lost 120 lbs in total, way beyond her expectations.

At one point, she weighed 285 lbs

Kiah went into the details in an exclusive interview with Bored Panda: “On my journey, I didn’t follow any strict diets and I learned to not see any foods as being “bad” foods. For me, it was more about being intentional and planning ahead of time and eating foods in balance and moderation. As a cattle rancher, it is no surprise that beef has been one of my favorite foods to incorporate into my diet! (But I was by no means on an all-beef carnivore diet.) I eat beef at least three times a week. It is very versatile, whether it’s just a steak on the grill alongside some veggies, thinly sliced on top of a salad, or made into burgers, spaghetti and so much more. One 3oz serving of beef provides 25 grams of protein as well as other essential vitamins and nutrients like zinc, iron, and b-vitamins, all in less than 170 calories! It is packed with nutrients, keeps me satisfied throughout the day, and tastes delicious. I think the most important thing when choosing a diet that is right for you is making sure that it is something you can stick with for the long haul and incorporates foods that you enjoy. For me, beef has been one of those foods!”

The 6th-generation rancher opened up about her previous struggles with weight loss. She seemingly tried everything, from diets to restrictions, to radical lifestyle changes, but nothing seemed to work. The continual failures made her think that she just couldn’t do anything about it, that she got dealt a bad hand, or bad genetics.

Over the course of a year, she lost 120 lbs

She attempted her one last final hurrah after she realized that she wanted to become a better example of her own lifestyle. As she works in Beef Council and promotes beef’s health benefits to many influential figures and institutions, she felt hypocritical being in the shape that she was in. That’s when she read the fateful book that changed everything about her outlook.

“The mantra that I used when I first started my journey and one that I continue to apply to this day is, “I’m going to love my future self enough that I’m going to show up and do the hard thing today.” I paint a vivid picture of the future best version of me that I am striving to be and focus on taking just one baby step towards that person each and every day. It’s not about transforming yourself overnight; it’s about being willing to show up every day consistently and being committed to being just 1% better than you were yesterday.”

She has become a real role model to many people around the world. The greatest change wasn’t in her body, but in her mind. When she slipped up before, Kiah focused on her failure, thinking that she always fails. Now, when she fails, she’s more willing to forgive herself, allowing her to learn from her experience—so much so that she took on being a lifestyle coach, sharing her inspiration and wisdom with everyone that wants to hear it (you can find the link above.) She encourages people to do the same thing that she did—”It’s not about hitting a number or goal weight, and more about showing up and loving yourself today,” she said.

Her process inspired her to become a lifestyle coach

Kiah shared what an unexpected twist turn of events becoming a lifestyle coach was. “If you had told me two years ago that I would not only lose more than 125 pounds but that I would also be coaching other women on how to love themselves to health and happiness too, I would have thought you were crazy! Coaching has been such an unexpected and wonderful part of my journey and perhaps the most rewarding of all, even more so than the weight loss itself. I used to see my obesity as a curse, as though I was a victim of being overweight, but now looking back, I can honestly say that my battle with weight might be my greatest blessing of all. Because I was able to overcome that struggle and learn through the process, I have the amazing opportunity to inspire thousands of other people all across the world. I am currently doing one-on-one coaching with women all across the country and am getting ready to launch my first digital course this summer. ”

The most important part of this article: "Now when she fails, she’s more willing to forgive herself, allowing her to learn from her experience." I say this because I know from experience that you are massively more likely to succeed (at weight loss, getting past addiction, or anything really) when you finally learn to give yourself room for small "failures". I always say that you don't fail until you decide you've failed. Had a bad day and ate a whole bag of chips? If you tell yourself the next day that you've already failed at your diet so you might as well just eat whatever you like, then you failed. But if you tell yourself the next day that you had a bad day yesterday and let's see if we can do better today, then it's just one blip in the journey.

It's kinda hard to succeed in fitness and weight loss if you beat yourself every time you miss a workout, eat something sugary or just fall off the bandwagon. If you missed a day/ goal or even mess up you didn't fail, it was a lapse of judgement. You only fail when you stop.

Damn girl! Congratulations! I too had an incredible weight loss journey going from a size 20 to a size 2 in just over 1 1/2 years. It was never easy, but so so worth it as I now feel much better, am healthier, and am far less troubled with my asthma, arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

Depends on the cuts and how you're consuming it. Lean beef is incredibly healthy with a wide variety of amino acids and minerals not found in other protein sources.

It's still there. You can see it in a few of the pictures, the one in the pink skirt you can see it on her arm and in the one where she's in white with the water you can see her lil tummy skin through the sheer fabric. HOWEVER- you didn't notice it, I didn't notice it right away, most people won't notice it. Never let stuff like that stop you. Just do things in a healthy way. If you look happy and healthy people won't be noticing a lil extra skin, they'll just see a lovely person living their best life.

Getting healthy is the key here. Too many people focus on the sizes when they should focus on a healthy lifestyle. THEN the weight will drop and you'll feel better. And be kind to yourself. You can still enjoy some junk food now and then. Just don't make it every day.

    Jace

But very LITTLE junk food. It’s best to get over the notion that we can have garbage food even semi-regularly. Especially the sugar. There’s an insane amount of sugar in so many packages things, and not even candy. Actual supposed foods like cereals (even granola!). If it has added sugar, drop it back onto the shelf and pick something else.

“Without Going To The Gym“ - well, duh... surprise, you don't have to go to the gym to lose weight. Weight loss is 80% diet, activity is not necessary for it. It's a nice bonus and really healthy if done right, but no requirement for weight loss.

No one should ever be harassed, bullied, or mocked, or insulted for being overweight. That said, the “you’re beautiful just the way you are” cultural trend is toxic because it encourages acceptance of an unhealthy physical state. The woman in this article did great for herself, rather than using the “you’re beautiful the way you are” concept to keep her comfortable with her complacency. In fact, one of the things the article claims she said was something like she “finally decided to do something about it”. It’s hard to change our lifestyles but it’s vital to have the self-discipline to do so.

Good on her, awesome job! Although losing weight without exercising isn't hocus pocus.. you don't need to work out at all. Take in less calories than your daily need and you'll lose weight. Simple as that. (yeah yeah it's hard I know, but the concept is simple)

After you loose some weight, it is a good idea to start doing some toning exercises cause it will help that you don't let too much if any, skin to start sagging which happens often or everytime, when you are obese and then lose a lot of weight. So, if you consider your skin sagging being an issue, toning exercises is the best way to go!

On one hand speaking as a regular modern person, I say bravo and congrats on the achievement and ongoing journey! On the flip side as a hetero non-alpha male, if this was a social setting, I'd probably be more inclined to approach the "before" person, not the "after" person. Some of us kinda prefer that "round, soft-yet-firm" youthful look and feel. And rocking those flared traditional dresses can be a VERY strong feminine signal to us Regular Dudes. Besides, "Fitness Gals", as we sometimes call them, personality-wise can be a bit... difficult. Just sayin' Please don't be mad at me for being honest...

Never been obese. But... I don't drink heavily, I don't smoke, I don't keep sugar in the house, and I cook my meals at home from unprocessed ingredients. -- I eat lots of veggies with every dinner meal, I don't use a lot of salt (and NO butter), and I keep sugary drinks to a minimum. -- Also, I don't have candy or snacks at home, I don't eat after 8pm or before 8am, and I get at least 6 hours of sleep per night. -- Lastly, I eat a single person's serving of food every meal, and breakfast is always oatmeal, plain yogurt, and coffee with cream (no sugar). -- None of this is rocket science, but the food industry has people eating awful food, and way too much of it, all the time. Little wonder obesity skyrocketed between the 1990s and 2010s. -- Americans were never that healthy, but we weren't an obese nation until 25 years ago (one generation ago), so blaming our nation's weight issues on genetics is a lazy excuse not to take on the food industry and teach people healthy diets.

Excercise can help you with the psychological part of it. It's nice to achieve goals with running for instance. At first you had me thinking you were such a perfect person, but I read your whole comment and you're absolutely right. It is mostly about the food industry and the idea of freedom being having everything to choose from. Freedom comes with great responsibility, also fro a government keeping companies in check that are just pushing foods and drinks that no one really needs.
