This Woman Built A “Cat Ladder” For Strays So They Could Come In When It’s Cold Outside

This winter has been particularly chilly in Turkey, so one kind woman came up with an amazing solution to help the freezing stray cats – she built a cat ladder that leads into her home. “I made the ladder so the cats can come into my comfortable house,” Sebnem Ilhan told The Dodo. The woman who works as a dentist in the town of Tekirdag came with this solution after spotting homeless cats suffering in the cold, and decided to turn her home into a refuge from winter.

However, she wasn’t sure how her neighbours would react to this addition to her windows, so Ilhan put some ornaments. “I thought if I put some flower pots there, it wouldn’t bother anyone,” she said. But the reception has been overwhelmingly positive — especially among the countless kitties who have taken advantage of her offer of a warm place to rest.

Building a ‘cat ladder’ is not the only way Ilhan has served the animals in need – the woman also volunteers her time to care for stray dogs and felines at a local rescue. “I wish no animal is hungry or thirsty, just happy,” she said. “This world is not just for people.”

This is a myth. There are no stray cats in Turkey. They are more "roving travellers" or "nomads" or "hippies". The animals in Turkey are so lucky to have people like this woman (and lots of others) caring for them that I really would not consider animals in Turkey "strays". That whole country seems to be a pet sanctuary. :)

"This world is not just for humans" is a SCIENTIFIC fact we all need to accept: the whole planet is an ecosystem, we're all interdependent.

I love your soul ... keep shining! Such a special trait to behold. I wish more of the world were like you, but I think we're slowly catching on (some of us, at least)!

It's a wonderful feeling to care for animals, 'IT'S A WIN-WIN SITUATION' for all.

What will it take for us to be able to get through ONE post about cats and dogs without someone spamming the comments with the damned spay/neuter spiel?
