Zoo Confirms That The Jaguar Who Attacked A Woman Trying To Take A Selfie With Her Won’t Be Put Down
Way too often, people forget that acting carelessly around wild animals can result in a tragedy. A couple of years ago a gorilla named Harambe was killed after a 4-year-old boy managed to get into his enclosure. The killing of the gorilla resulted in a widespread backlash, with many people blaming both zookeepers and parents for allowing the child to get into gorilla’s cage. Sadly, some people learned nothing from this situation and continues to get themselves into dangerous situations by not obeying the rules at the zoo.
Recently a young woman visiting the zoo in Arizona made a mistake that could’ve been fatal, either to her or an animal involved

The woman wanted to take a selfie with a jaguar and to do so, she decided to cross the barrier and got dangerously close to the wild animal.
That’s when the jaguar reached out and grabbed the careless woman’s arm with its claws. The victim suffered deep scratches and was taken into the hospital to treat her injuries.
After this story went viral people began to wonder what will happen to the jaguar who attacked the visitor. The Wildlife Word Zoo released a statement reminding people that those barriers are put there for a reason and reassured that the jaguar won’t be put down.

What kind of person would do/risk/attempt such a thing? Clearly, a person of a low IQ, for it doesn't even take much common sense to know that you do NOT jump into ANY enclosure at a zoo, especially one with dangerous animals in it! This woman deserved what she got, and she should have gotten a lot more. The zoo should sue her. There should be repercussions, and less of this b.s. "We're sending prayers" from the zoo to her and her family! They should be saying "We're sending our lawyers!" The zoo is TOO LENIENT! And while I'm at it, WHY are those news reporters calling it a "jag-wire?" WTF is a "jagwire?" They cannot even pronounce jaguar properly! I thought it was a slip of the tongue, but no, they each said it more than once! Idiots abound!!!!!!

UPDATE!!!! A woman who was attacked by a jaguar at an Arizona zoo has apologized for the incident, according to a zoo spokeswoman. The woman returned to the Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park following the attack and said she "feels horrible about the bad publicity the zoo is getting regarding the incident," spokeswoman Kristy Morcum said according to CNN affiliates KTVK and KPHO. Morcum said the woman apologized and admitted fault.

There is a big cat sanctuary in Colorado that takes in abused/abandoned exotic pet trade cats and circus refugees. Many many years ago...a worker that had been there for years with no incident, had become very close and friendly with one of the tigers...completely forgot her experience and training, and tried to skritch its noggin. Well, he ripped her arm out of the socket, and managed to eat it while they were rescuing her. The state rolled hard to have the tiger put down, but the lady whose arm got eaten lawyered up and fought to save the cat, because she knew that it was her fault and the only way the cat was going to live was if she personally, rather than the sanctuary, was the "save this tiger" standard bearer.

Because SOME zoos and animal reservation areas think that once an animal attacks a human, they should be "destroyed". Believe me, it pisses me off too since all cases start with "the human did something stupid... again." How can you forget Harambe? And he didnt even harm the child.

In 2017 here in Finland also some parents let their child to get too close to a wolf cage at the zoo and the child was injured. And of course some people then wanted that the wolves of that zoo should be killed. That was extremely stupid and I think that parents like that who let their child do stupid stuff at a zoo should be permanently banned from all the zoos around the world.

You want to stop people from doing this? When you catch someone going over a barrier, you give them and their immediate family a lifetime ban from the park. If they return, have them arrested for trespassing. After a few people are banned for breaking the rules, the rest of the general public will catch on. Oh..and make sure you post pics of the people that are banned for crossing barriers at the gates so that other guests will get the message upon entering. Sounds harsh to punish the immediate family, but they are just as responsible because A) they brought the offender and B) they apparently were ineffective at telling them "no." Also..anyone with year long passes should be required to accept a terms and agreements contract that says if you violate the rules and are banned, you forfeit your pass and will receive no refund.

If people would follow the damn rules. There are animals that would still be alive, and people that wouldnt be suffering losses or injuries. The zoo is not for animal interaction as it's not a "petting zoo" pretty much every animal in there is dangerous in one way or another. Even the docile ones you can feed with the zoo's permission can be dangerous in the right situation. So dont think just because they're exposed to humans they turn into docile creatures who wont hurt you. Because they can and they will. FOLLOW THE RULES! Keep your children with you at all times and stay out of the enclosures. Those rules are set exactly for that reason so no harm comes to animals OR people.

I find it totally incredible that were even having this conversation. What went through her mind leading her to believe the barrier was in place for all of the other people, but not her? It wouldn't surprise me if a week from now there's an article on page six of the local newspaper reporting that she filed a lawsuit against the zoo for failing to properly protect her from such a dangerous animal.

Well if people put wild animals in bars and expect them to be happy with humans surrounding them and taking pictures, far from their natural habitat then people wl get hurt. hopefully they will attack more people and people will stop paying for animals to be locked in cages and tormented for years on end. The selfie thing is particularly dangerous, because big cats are prompted to attack when you turn your back on them, in the wild and in captivity. An adult stupid enough to cross security barriers that protect them from danger is an adult that fully deserves the pain and suffering of being attacked.

Common sense is a thing of the past! I see idiots every day pulling idiot thing for a picture. I was search and rescue for 45 years. If it can be thought of they have tried and usually failed. We have a sand cape extending out into Ocean. Usually at least one death! The bad part is fenced. Acrossed they go. One death is too many. Few weeks ago the waves and wind right the fly sometines 100 ft, in air. Then come crashing down. While this was happening people are crossing fence going out there. Two held on some how and was able to excape. But most don't. Then we would have to go into danger looking for them!

CLOSED & locked off enclosures but parents ignored it. Then they weren't watching the brat who stuck his hand in the cage. Wolf bit it because it was a wolf. Because the lazy assed parents didn't want their brat getting rabies, the wolf was destroyed to check for rabies. It didn't have rabies. What a surprise. Did anyone check the brat for diseases? They should have.

In a situation like this the animal should never be blamed. Humans capture beautiful animals like this and put them in cages purely for our own selfish entertainment and then stupid people trespass and cause the animal to feel threatened and defend itself in its home. Jaguars have the strongest jaws in the cat family. They evolved to catch caimans (a type of alligator) and drag them up out of the water onto land, then bite through the armour-like scales on their backs. This woman is DAMN lucky she only got scratched! If she'd been bitten, she probably would be missing a hand.

Stupidity at its finest. How stupid are you to cross barriers just to take a damn selfie? Even kids are smart enough to not cross barriers (except in cases where often times parents don't supervise their kids or put their kids in danger by wanting a "closer view"). Then again, I am not surprised anymore. But thankfully, the animal didn't get put down for one's blatant ignorance. And I like how the zoo responded in one article about this incident that it's "not an animal's fault that people cross barriers". Indeed it isn't an animal's fault that stupid people do stupid things. Animals will be animals no matter how much they seem "tamed". You can never tame a wild animal and the best way to avoid s**t like this from happening is to know your place around animals and respect them by simply following rules. Then again, people don't even read rules anymore or give a rat's a*s about them. So yeah.... there will be animals that get the blame for human ignorance and it's quite unfair.

This actually doesn’t sound like a Jaguar that was scared or territorial. It sounds and looks like the animal saw another animal in its enclosure and wanted to play or interact with it but humans don’t have thick fur coats or thick skin that can protect against sharp teeth or claws. Humans are soft and can barely handle wounds or attacks from the Jaguars domesticated counter parts.

There is a reason for these barriers. It was a vain, stupid and foolish thing she did. I do hope she recovers but also hope she realised how stupid she was. These are wild animals who should not be in captivity anyway but that is a whole other issue. Maybe she can become an advocate for obeying the rules in the future.

When we have a facility fabricated to emulate a natural environment for wildlife held captive and on display for the public's education and entertainment, with that power also comes the responsibility to protect the wildlife contained within this environment.. established by the zoo administration. The given scenario would be tragic.. and ironic indeed, having a creature put down because it was doing only what God intended it to do naturally.. We must not destroy or punish these animals, their lives are compromised as it is, no fault of their own.

What kind of person would do/risk/attempt such a thing? Clearly, a person of a low IQ, for it doesn't even take much common sense to know that you do NOT jump into ANY enclosure at a zoo, especially one with dangerous animals in it! This woman deserved what she got, and she should have gotten a lot more. The zoo should sue her. There should be repercussions, and less of this b.s. "We're sending prayers" from the zoo to her and her family! They should be saying "We're sending our lawyers!" The zoo is TOO LENIENT! UPDATE!!!! A woman who was attacked by a jaguar at an Arizona zoo has apologized for the incident, according to a zoo spokeswoman. The woman returned to the Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfield Park following the attack and said she "feels horrible about the bad publicity the zoo is getting regarding the incident," spokeswoman Kristy Morcum said according to CNN affiliates KTVK and KPHO. Morcum said the woman apologized and admitted fault.

There is a big cat sanctuary in Colorado that takes in abused/abandoned exotic pet trade cats and circus refugees. Many many years ago...a worker that had been there for years with no incident, had become very close and friendly with one of the tigers...completely forgot her experience and training, and tried to skritch its noggin. Well, he ripped her arm out of the socket, and managed to eat it while they were rescuing her. The state rolled hard to have the tiger put down, but the lady whose arm got eaten lawyered up and fought to save the cat, because she knew that it was her fault and the only way the cat was going to live was if she personally, rather than the sanctuary, was the "save this tiger" standard bearer.

In 2017 here in Finland also some parents let their child to get too close to a wolf cage at the zoo and the child was injured. And of course some people then wanted that the wolves of that zoo should be killed. That was extremely stupid and I think that parents like that who let their child do stupid stuff at a zoo should be permanently banned from all the zoos around the world.

You want to stop people from doing this? When you catch someone going over a barrier, you give them and their immediate family a lifetime ban from the park. If they return, have them arrested for trespassing. After a few people are banned for breaking the rules, the rest of the general public will catch on. Oh..and make sure you post pics of the people that are banned for crossing barriers at the gates so that other guests will get the message upon entering. Sounds harsh to punish the immediate family, but they are just as responsible because A) they brought the offender and B) they apparently were ineffective at telling them "no." Also..anyone with year long passes should be required to accept a terms and agreements contract that says if you violate the rules and are banned, you forfeit your pass and will receive no refund.

If people would follow the damn rules. There are animals that would still be alive, and people that wouldnt be suffering losses or injuries. The zoo is not for animal interaction as it's not a "petting zoo" pretty much every animal in there is dangerous in one way or another. Even the docile ones you can feed with the zoo's permission can be dangerous in the right situation. So dont think just because they're exposed to humans they turn into docile creatures who wont hurt you. Because they can and they will. FOLLOW THE RULES! Keep your children with you at all times and stay out of the enclosures. Those rules are set exactly for that reason so no harm comes to animals OR people.

Common sense is a thing of the past! I see idiots every day pulling idiot thing for a picture. I was search and rescue for 45 years. If it can be thought of they have tried and usually failed. We have a sand cape extending out into Ocean. Usually at least one death! The bad part is fenced. Acrossed they go. One death is too many. Few weeks ago the waves and wind right the fly sometines 100 ft, in air. Then come crashing down. While this was happening people are crossing fence going out there. Two held on some how and was able to excape. But most don't. Then we would have to go into danger looking for them!

Jaguars have the strongest jaws in the cat family. They evolved to catch caimans (a type of alligator) and drag them up out of the water onto land, then bite through the armour-like scales on their backs. Thank goodness the Jaguar wasn't destroyed due to some woman's stupidity. These animals should not be destroyed because people choose to ignore the signs and barriers.

Stupidity at its finest. How stupid are you to cross barriers just to take a damn selfie? Even kids are smart enough to not cross barriers (except in cases where often times parents don't supervise their kids or put their kids in danger by wanting a "closer view"). Then again, I am not surprised anymore. But thankfully, the animal didn't get put down for one's blatant ignorance. And I like how the zoo responded in one article about this incident that it's "not an animal's fault that people cross barriers". Indeed it isn't an animal's fault that stupid people do stupid things. Animals will be animals no matter how much they seem "tamed". You can never tame a wild animal and the best way to avoid s**t like this from happening is to know your place around animals and respect them by simply following rules. Then again, people don't even read rules anymore or give a rat's a*s about them. So yeah.... there will be animals that get the blame for human ignorance and it's quite unfair.

She got what she deserved. If somebody breaks into your home you have the right to defend yourself. She broke into the jaguar's home and she was just defending herself and protecting her home.

This actually doesn’t sound like a Jaguar that was scared or territorial. It sounds and looks like the animal saw another animal in its enclosure and wanted to play or interact with it but humans don’t have thick fur coats or thick skin that can protect against sharp teeth or claws. Humans are soft and can barely handle wounds or attacks from the Jaguars domesticated counter parts.

These animals spend their whole life in cages, but then again out in the wild it would of been hunted and put on someones wall, this lady is stupid, beyond words can say, time to time we find stupid people , maybe she should of said here kitty kitty, and it wouldn't of happened..

There is a reason for these barriers. It was a vain, stupid and foolish thing she did. I do hope she recovers but also hope she realised how stupid she was. These are wild animals who should not be in captivity anyway but that is a whole other issue. Maybe she can become an advocate for obeying the rules in the future.

Why the hell was it even considered to be put down in the first place. The f*****g dumbass crossed a clearly marked barrier so she could get a f*****g photo. Its hurt fault. Would you scrap a Tesla because some stupid b***h stepped in traffic to take a picture of it in action? No. You know why? Because that person is an idiot...the car didnt malfunction

When we have a facility fabricated to emulate a natural environment for wildlife held captive and on display for the public's education and entertainment, with that power also comes the responsibility to protect the wildlife contained within this environment.. established by the zoo administration. The given scenario would be tragic.. and ironic indeed, having a creature put down because it was doing only what God intended it to do naturally.. We must not destroy or punish these animals, their lives are compromised as it is, no fault of their own.

Because both witch hunting- and inquisition times have long past! We specially reserve that for the next future American Dentist who goes trophy hunting. Although it's indeed a really, really stupid mistake, but I am dead sure she learned her lesson :-)
