“I have been a professional medium for 15 and a half years,” said the woman in a one-star review left for a gym that left Twitter crying tears of laughter.
Turns out, the medium found the facility and the instructors just great, but it was something else that left her beyond disappointed. Let’s just say it included dark energy and an ‘assault.’
The now-viral bad review which had its screenshot shared by Gustavo, @yourboygus1 on Twitter, naturally, sparked a sea of reactions. With each one funnier than the last, below you’ll find something that Twitter is notorious for—never missing a chance to crack a smile or two in response to an incident so unusual like this.
This gym-goer, a professional medium, said she was ‘assaulted by dark energy’ when she walked into the studio

Although she was happy with the gym experience, the dark energy left her so upset that she wrote a one-star review

After Twitter user @yourboygus1 shared a screenshot on Sunday of the criticism that Lily Worthington-Rowe wrote for a gym in Astoria, Queens, in 2017, Twitter was sent into tears. Laughing.
In the resurfaced bad review, the woman said that she has been a professional medium for over 15 years and is ‘very sensitive’ to all ‘energy forces.’ Her review stated that she was ‘assaulted by the dark energy radiating from Monica at the front desk,’ leaving people on Twitter soaking in this one-of-a-kind gem that produced some of the funniest meme responses.
And people on Twitter couldn’t miss a chance to crack some jokes in response to the review

With so many monstrous memes floating around Twitter in response to this viral one-star review, Bored Panda reached out to one of its authors—Treasure Hunter Maxwell, who goes by the handle @LostTreasurePod. He tweeted a picture of a haunting sculpture captioned “Monica’s profile pic,” that was among the internet’s favorites.
“As someone who has worked in customer service, this struck me in two ways—one, it was comically absurd. The collective voices of Twitter seemed to think so, anyway,” Maxwell said and continued: “And two, you never really know how these reviews might affect workers underneath the managerial level, so I felt that it was irresponsible of this customer to single out a woman who—by all accounts—did nothing wrong here.”

Maxwell, who’s a podcaster, gamer, wrestler and writer, said that we’re all going through a tough time, especially those of us in the service industry. “If the person who assisted you did not willfully try to impede your experience or disrupt your service, you should always rate them well.”
He said he’s sure some people would disagree with him on that, “but again, as someone who has worked within customer service over a period of years, I am keenly aware how these ratings can affect you as a worker—even if the review was laughable!”

When asked what he himself thinks of dark matter and mystical stuff, Maxwell said he’s a pragmatist. “I think there are many ways to interpret this crazy ride called life, but I always err on the side of science. That said, I can be a bit spiritual (and I guess contradictory!), and I love joking about astrology and horoscopes.”
He continued: “I don’t think there’s any harm in either that, OR spirituality/religion, provided you’re not using it to harm others or assert a personal agenda (sadly something this customer—and a lot of people for that matter—have not yet learned). Believe what you want. That is your choice.”
“But to completely make up a fantasy about someone for arbitrary reasons, and then judge them for ‘bad energy’? Please. Then again, who knows, maybe Monica was just a Scorpio on an off day,” Maxwell laughed.

One of the reasons why Twitter has gotten so reactive to anything miscellaneous like Monica’s dark energy may have to do with the way “a lot of people, especially marginalized voices, are using humor and critique as a way to take back power and to laugh at or diminish people and institutions that we feel are harmful,” Maxwell suggested.

“While it’s hard to judge someone for a single review, the person who wrote this strikes me as an individual who 1. does not have enough insight yet to see how that rating is going to be perceived by others, and 2. How it might personally affect someone just trying to do their job. Humor allows us to take back a bit of power in this (quite honestly ridiculous) situation. That’s why good comedy punches up, not down.”
Also, Maxwell believes that it’s just human nature to make light of the absurd, or try to find meaning in a very chaotic time. “Hopefully Monica has seen this Tweet and is having a good laugh as well, wherever she is,” he concluded.

Don't laugh, I used to work with Monica, this was clearly one of her good days
