Artist With Depression Illustrates What She’s Learned In Therapy To Help People Deal With Their Mental Health Problems
Dealing with mental health problems is something people work on all of their lives. And author and illustrator Kate Alan has a wonderful collection of works to help others in this difficult quest. This time, we’re focusing on one particular comic she uploaded to the internet a couple of days ago.

Titled “Let’s get you mentally healthy,” it provides some valuable information that comes from the 29-year-old’s personal life. “I have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Depression,” Kate from Southern California told Bored Panda. “The comic half comes from exercises I learned in therapy and half from personal experience.”

“Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy have both been helpful in managing my mental health,” Kate added. “Eating well, exercising, creating, and working to have solid relationships have helped, too.”
If you liked the comic, consider getting it as a print from Kate’s redbubble shop. And if you want to check out more of her work, fire up her profiles on Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, or Twitter.
Also, here at Bored Panda, we’ve covered other artists that tackle this difficult subject as well. Holly Chisholm has shared her take on living with depression and ADHD as well as georgedrawz who even managed to illustrate his everyday struggles with mental health in a mildly amusing way.
Immediately, a lot of people started relating to Kate’s comic
with practice it becomes second nature to do this and you can do it on the fly, with a screaming child and burning dinner, or a tough day at work, or feeling fat. With practice and patterned breathing it works really well. I was a very scattered person thoughts and feelings wise and this practice steps it out and puts me in control.
I'm suicidal and have severe, crippling depression. I've attempted suicide 4 times. I've cut myself 206 times. I've been told that my eyes seem dead, there's no innocent sparkle in them like there was a couple of years ago. I'm 16. I need help, but nothing has worked. I was baker acted into a mental institution for 6 days. It didn't help. I've tried therapists and counselors. They don't help. Sometimes strangers help. Maybe someone can help me? I need help... Please... If anyone can help me please try I know I need help desperately and think great things of yourself for trying to help.
I can relate to you. I've been having depression for 4 years or so. I can't promise you'll get better, but if you want somebody to talk with, I'm here.
Load More Replies...I'm so glad there are artists out there that make stuff like this to help people. :)
I'm going to try this today. It's been a really s****y day, and i'm sick of being tired and sad. When i get home, i'll attempt to... feel better, i guess.
This reminds me of DBT, just as mentioned in one of the reddit comments! I highly recommend it, acceptance and mindfulness are more important than you could imagine!
Natural herbs have cured so many illness that drugs and injection cant cure. I've seen the great importance of natural herbs and the wonderful work they have done in people's lives. i read people's testimonies online on how they were cured of herpes, hiv, diabetics etc by Dr. Ogba Kosu herbal medicine, so i decided to contact the doctor because i know nature has the power to heal anything. I was diagnosed with hiv for the past 7 years but Dr. Ogba Kuso cured me with his herbs and i referred my aunt and her husband to him immediately because they were both suffering from herpes and they were cured too .I know is hard to believe but am a living testimony. There is no harm trying herbs. He is also a spell caster, he cast spells to restore broken marriages and a good luck spells to prosper and excel in life. I had no idea other people experienced "spiraling emotions/thoughts", or that there was a name for it.
Ive only found out recently that not everyones mind does this automatically, like some ppl just ignore what they feeling and have no idea whats going on inside of them coz their focus is more on the outside or on someone else. .. it was mind blowing to discover but answered so many questions too.
HALT: Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. I'm always hungry, I get really hangry.
This article should be titled "TJler's life is better than yours".
I can tell you right now, it takes more than just fresh air and exercise to address depression. They're two things that help, but someone with true depression has to constantly work at it - daily, hourly..
