Polar bears live very far up north, in the mostly inhabited part of Canada. Either your boyfriend live in one of those very remote village, like Churchill, or it's another kind of bears that visit him. I live in was is considered here as the north and never seen a live polar bear in my entire life.

Years ago, we had a bear in our front yard (Colorado). I heard some noise and peeked out the door, then quickly slammed it shut. I told my husband "There's a guy out there and he sounds like he's grunting." My husband looked out, then quickly slammed the door. He started laughing, and told me "That's not a guy, that's a bear." He had shimmied up a tree. We called Animal Control, and they said "Oh, don't bother him. He'll go away." It was a young black bear, and he stayed in the tree for several hours, afraid to come down. We still laugh about it to this day.

Polar bear and a black bear are two very different bears. That would be like comparing a mountain lion to a House cat.

Your average Canadian black bear wants nothing to do with you...usually. If you see one, turn around to see if you are between the bear and a mini version of the bear. If that's the case, you better peace out. Otherwise they are very shy. And adorable.

The Finnish bear didn't look like he wanted to leave. I think the guy was brave or stupid to get off his deck. Bears can run fast. Guy might not have been able to get back inside if they bear had charged. (If you know more about this than I, please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I lived on 42 acres with also owning both sides of a private river. I went down to the river just about every day. On this one particular day I was armed with a banana and a pomeranian. I suddenly smelled this distinct foul smell and thought immediately it must be a male bear on the other side of the river in the bushes. I went inside my head and spoke to the bear, saying,l know this is your river but I'm just visiting and won't hurt you....I hope that is ok.......and I heard some rustling and soon the smell was gone. I can communicate with my cat like that....he comes running when I call him in my head.....I think we should try to love the animals more and trust that there is a level playing field for that love to express itself. I would however be less relaxed in grizzly territory LOL
