50 Incredibly Wholesome Things That Happened This Year That Might Restore Your Faith In 2020
It's not every day you see the whole year becoming a meme for how disastrous it’s going. Just take a look at people trying to laugh through it all in our previous posts here and here, and check out the "2020 described in one word" challenge right here.
Essentially, at this point, most of us are severely deprived of feel-good emotions. You need no doctor to say that the worldwide chaos has been taking its toll on us. But thankfully, there’s an antidote that’s said to soothe your soul and give you a much-needed fix of wholesomeness.
Sit back, relax, and get ready for the Bored Panda compilation of wholesome posts that will bring back hope in humanity and our future, because as long as we have these nice people, we are all going to be alright.

Be More Like Abdul
Back to work today, forgot my pass so locked bike outside Cannon Street station. Left work at 6 pm to find just the cut lock and no bike, resigned to never seeing my trusty stead again asked the station if they have cameras. A guy appeared waving at me, asked me to put the code into my cut lock. He replied ‘I have your bike’ with a smile I will never forget!! His name is Abdul Muneeb and he works for South Eastern Railways, he was on a break and saw a guy bolt cut the lock and challenged him to give it back, he then took it inside and waited 4 hours after his shift finished to personally make sure I got my bike back. The world needs more Abdul’s, he is a legend of a man and a credit to his employer.

10 Years Of Work But It Was Worth It! I’m A Provider At The Same Place I Used To Clean
The recent COVID Response Tracking Study conducted in May showed that Americans are the unhappiest they've been in 50 years. 31% of respondents said they were happy in 2018, but this year, only 14% could say the same thing.
Keeping your spirits high in these challenging times may often feel like mission impossible, but however hard it may be, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. We just need to learn to see it. Experts suggest starting from physical exercise, good sleep, and meditation because a healthy body carries a healthy soul.
Gretchen Rubin, author of the book “The Happiness Project,” believes that connecting with people, even if it’s not face-to-face communication, is also key.
“Ancient philosophers and contemporary scientists agree that connecting with people is truly important. We’re fortunate that we have so much technology we can use to connect with people who aren’t nearby.” She also suggests taking care of your loved ones and those who’re close to you, because empathy breeds feel-good emotions, and together we feel way stronger.
I'm So Happy For Her
Not just that, love. You had pictures taken and showed it online. You think you took a step, but you walked a mile.
The Wooden Mast Had To Be Replaced By A Concrete Mast, But The Professionals Preserved The Tucano's House
What A Legend
Rubin also says that decluttering the space around you is a way to boost inner happiness. “Decluttering can be difficult now, with more people home and a heavier load on your household, but whatever you can do can help give you a sense of control over your life.”
This sense of control is essential to whoever feels overwhelmed by the chaos which has been happening in the world lately. In the end, all things, good or bad, pass with time. Soon the challenges will become history, and some may even remember all this free time we have on our hands with yearning. So why not use it to the benefit of our well-being, both inner and outer?

Be The Change You Want To See In The World
A group of young kids caught me on my way into the store. Asked me if I wanted to make a bet. I replied “I’m a gambling man”. Older kid said he could ride a wheelie on his bike stop sign to stop sign. I said no way... and how much? He said 10 bucks. I said why 10? He said they wanted a large pizza at Dominos... I said deal. He came very close but couldn’t hold it his wheelie that long... While they were figuring out how to come up with 10 bucks, I had already ordered their pizza plus a 2 liter of Sprite. Made my night. Homeless Man Leaves A Donation For Oregon Historical Society After They Got Vandalized During Riots
"Since last night, we have seen new memberships and donations made online to support our work and the clean-up effort — but none have affected me as much as a gift from our neighbor, Oscar. In a note that accompanied a $1 donation, Oscar wrote: “Hello, I’m homeless so I don’t have much to give you, just some of my bottle collecting money. But I saw your windows got broken and wanted to help. You once gave me a free tour before the pandemic, so this is a thank you.” In my time as Executive Director, I have seen OHS receive truly incredible gifts — but this one has touched my heart tremendously."

At 16 My Guidance Counselor Told Me I Wasn’t Good Enough At Math To Go Into The Space Field. In 2 Weeks I Start Working On My Masters In Space Sciences And Engineering
Follow your gut and do the thing!
1) You go girl! You do that thing! 2) I love your background veiw...really lovely :)
Same girl, saaaaame! My high school physics teacher told me to go into the social sciences or humanities, as natural science just "wasn't for me". Now doing my PhD in Climate Science. Proved him wrong, as did you.
That is awesome that you didn't let them hold you back from what you knew you could do!
Load More Replies...Your guidance counselor was living in the past. Raw mathematical ability isn't nearly as necessary as it once was in the engineering field. Stress and thermal tolerance modeling software are far better at determining design performance than pen-and-paper calculations ever were.
I want to be on Broadway, and my guidance counsler told me to pick a more realistic, and serious job. I'm GOING to be there, one day, ya'll will go to New York, look on the Marqee, and see XANDRA FLITTON, and that will be me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have a goal don't let what anyone says deter you. All it is is there opinion. Your opinion is greater.
My daughter was told she would never make collage let alone unit. She finished college then got two degrees from two universities. Now works with special needs children as a teacher and has been put forward for the next level with in one year when normally two to three years !! So proud of her!!
So SO happy for you. This happened to me way back in 1961. Struggled with physics so 'they' said forget about being a doctor. So I gave up that hope. This year, at 76 I am studying highschool physics just to prove to myself that i really can do it. :)
Things haven't changed much in counselor attitudes toward women and STEAM. But, our options are better these days. You go girl, don't let anyone tell you what you can't do!
I was told at school I was hopeless at art. Started an art group 14 years ago. 35 members and still going strong. I have sold 105 paintings and counting.
Way to go. You will succeed. Make sure the guidance counselor knows so that person can change their attitude and encourage people to go for their goals.
I graduated two years early and the guidance counselor told me "If you quit now, you'll always be a quitter." Counselors who discourage kids should be PUNCHED HARD IN THE FACE EVERY TIME.
I have Discalculia. (Numeric Dyslexia) I was told I would never achieve my dream of being a medical professional. I am now a retired nurse! You go girl!
Always fantastic when you prove to a downer that you are better than that.
Yeah, those guidance counselors need to remove their heads from that dark, airless space behind them.
My choir teacher told me I'd never make it as a singer. I was asked by and A & R guy for a demo, so...
That’s wonderful!! I had an English teacher who once said that I had a very good second-class brain. Ouch! Made my way through uni with undiagnosed learning disorders that affected everything in my life. I learned a lot from him, mostly never to let the bastards grind me down!!
Showed your guidance counselor didn't you Congratulations & Best Wishes! NEVER, ever let anyone tell you - you can't do something!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️I wasted my time at A and c T camp they said I bought a house in hawaii with the money I saved as a professional artist
Make sure you let your former guidance counselor know. Congratulations!
Wow you must feel so proud of yourself - with good reason - amazing talent!!
some guidance counselor.....obviously didn't know what they were talking about!
Mathematics was a huge mystery to me, and I'm afraid, still is, to a certain extent. I was really good at arithmetic, but it was the more advanced stuff I couldn't get my head around. So, good on you for doing that!!
When so,some tells you you aren’t good enough, show them how wrong they really are!
I had a teacher in high school say I'd never be a teacher and am in my 23rd year of teaching!
She's up on the Olomana trail in Kailua, Hawaii. A spectacular and tough hike.
I hope you get back in touch with your guidance counselor one day and tell them they aren't really good enough to be a guidance counselor. Congratulations!
Math teachers need to stop giving this kind of career advice. One told a friend of mine not to pursue psychology in university for the same reason. That friend went on to become a teacher but, having earned one of my degrees in psychology, I’m pretty sure she could have done it too.
Cheers For Judy

This Guy Got Accepted To Harvard After Working As A Trash Collector To Support His Family
"So I got denied by all of the colleges I applied to after high school, so I picked up a job as a trash man to help my pops out. But a chance to go to Bowie State popped up. However, I needed to keep my job so I could help out my dad with the bills because my brother was already in college.
My brother legit dropped out of school after the semester finished so he could get a job to cover the bills, so that I could go to school.
That sacrifice is the only reason I’m going to Harvard Law School this fall.
This wouldn’t have been possible without you. I love you, big bro."

A Mourning Dove Had Been Trapped In Our Chimney For Hours. With His iPhone & A Flashlight Taped To A Board & Facetime Guiding The Way, Hubby Was Able To Retrieve The Poor Thing
A little more detail on the story: we noticed one of our cats was very interested in our fireplace yesterday morning, but we figured it was just weird curious kitty being weirdly curious. A few hours later, hubby (home teaching remotely) heard scratching sounds and thought something was in the chimney so he went on the roof to check. He saw this little dove waay at the bottom, resting on a ledge near the flue.
It took some repeated efforts (and resulted in soot. EVERYWHERE.), but eventually “Dusty” fell through the flue into the fireplace and I grabbed her with a blanket.
She was squinty and pretty lethargic, so I called a wildlife rescue and they advised we keep her in the small cage overnight with some food and water to let her recover from the stress. If she was still puffy and lethargic in the morning, we needed to bring her in (as a native species, she’s protected, so we can’t rehab without a license). After about 7-8 hours, Dusty showed some normal bird-like behavior and this morning she was ready to go. We let her out in the front yard near the bird feeders the doves love—probably what she’d been eyeing from our chimney.
And hubby bought a chimney cap so this doesn’t happen again.

Although that's incredibly sweet & generous of the donater, I can't be the only one who finds it depressing that a lot of kids seem to think becoming a youtuber is a realistic career goal. It isn't. Even if you make the best content in the world, there's a good chance nobody will ever see it. In the end it comes down to chance. I hate to sound like a boomer shitting on the younger generations, but it's sad that kids these days have such unambitious goals. I hope he has a backup plan for when his channel eventually falls through. Edit: Instagram influencers, too. So many kids want to be famous on YouTube or Instagram but the vast majority of popular kids' creators are massive douchebags with substanceless content, shallow narcissistic "personalities", & an affinity for flexing their money & success. I'm not saying this kid is anything like that, but the "role models" online are hardly worth trying to be like.

He said the temporary no parking signs were put up at the last minute, so the tickets were unfair. Asking us to move our cars was easier and quicker. The building superintendents told him who owned which car. The week after the Marathon Bombing, police were working multiple shifts. The mayor asked them to help people feel comfortable and to answer any questions they could. My neighbor was struggling the day of the shelter in place order (not lockdown) She wanted to go outside and see the memorial. I went with her. A policeman saw us and raced over shouting, "Are you okay? Can I help?" We were not in near the active investigation, but still asked to shelter in place. Of course not every police officer was as thoughtful and people were treated harshly or unfairly elsewhere in the city. My experience may have been unique. I miss living there
I believe we all have kindness inside. How we use it matters. The above stories are examples of the possibilities of kindness.

The first time we were on the escalator and he said "High five for a merry christmas!" So for the fun of it I did it and it cheered me up and he noticed and said "And one more for good luck in the new year!" So I did. This year with the pandemic I have not been able to go to Asda and today at 11am in my very local supermarket, as I was queueing to get served I heard from behind me "High five for a merry christmas!" I turned around and he was standing there with a big grin on his face. We did a socially distanced air high five and the new years luck one and he left the queue. I asked him where he was going and he said "I only joined the queue to give you the high fives, stay safe mate!" and he left. That was 20 minutes ago. I have depression and this simple little act of kindness always helps see me through the year. I think he is about 14 or
Took Hubby to a big appointment yesterday. SOmeone had lined the drive to the cancer center with sign after sign of THANK YOU and YOU ARE GREAT, all hand-drawn in marker.... And I thought, "Humanity isn't doomed."
I read all of these and... this is officially starred for when I feel bad.
All of these made me throw my hands up in the air like my grandma in church. I can't stop smileing. thank you for this.

the perfect song/vibe to listen to while reading this, Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. I wish I had seen this sooner though...
It was so uplifting to know all the truly caring people in this world. God is smiling.
This was a lovely post, but way too long! Next time, please cut this into 2, 3 or even 4 different posts! I would have forwarded it to all of my friends, but they would have killed me for sending such a huge file.
I wanna know how the posts from 2018 are supposed to restore my faith in 2020.
Maybe by reminding us that goodness still exists and that although we mostly see negative news in 2020, that's not all there is.
