If The World Feels Like A Terrible Place, Here Are 50 Of The Most Wholesome Things People Shared Online To Make Each Other’s Day
The idea behind feel-good stories is that it's important to counteract the negativity of bad news.
Of course, there will always be skeptics who say maintaining optimism in the long run is impossible and that every attempt to prove otherwise is just a form of escapism, but every now and then something happens that puts a smile on your face and makes you believe that we're all going to be OK.
So we at Bored Panda put together a new collection of such moments to remind you that there's still good in this world. Whether it's someone beating an illness or caring for an animal in need, we people are strong and have an endless capacity to love, and we can't forget that.

Sometimes, the impulse to consume negative news can be difficult to resist. "We are evolutionarily wired to screen for and anticipate danger, which is why keeping our fingers on the pulse of bad news may trick us into feeling more prepared," says Cecille Ahrens, clinical director of Transcend Therapy in San Diego, California.
Following the news may be necessary to stay informed, especially during a crisis but according to Ahrens, the feelings of fear, sadness, and anger triggered by negative headlines can keep people stuck in a "pattern of frequent monitoring," leading to worse mood and more anxious scrolling (doomscrolling).

Ddoomscrolling can take a toll on mental health. Studies have linked the consumption of bad news to increased distress, anxiety, and depression, even when the news in question is relatively mundane.
Graham Davey, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Sussex, says exposure to bad news can make personal worries seem worse and even cause acute stress reactions and some symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder that can be quite long-lasting.

The root of our interest in bad news may be the result of feeling vulnerable or helpless or overwhelmed.
"Let's say you are feeling stressed out at work and you disengage from your tasks to pick up your phone and doomscroll. Once you catch that compulsive behavior, check in with yourself and ask what it is you are thinking and feeling,” says Megan E. Johnson, a licensed clinical psychologist and researcher specializing in trauma and brain-behavior relationships.
"Once you understand your need, then you can find a realistic and appropriate way to get that need met, rather than compulsively turning to doomscrolling."

This Man Spoke With Every Parent In Uvalde, Texas To Build Personalized Caskets For All 19 Children Who Were Shot. His Name Is Trey Ganem
Trey Ganem should not have to customise coffins in the first place. :(
It's heartwarming but at the same time really sad that he's making coffins for children whose lives could have been saved if the right measures were taken. USA, get your sh*t together!
Until people in the U.S. are taught how to tell a lie from the truth, and to understand the NRA, and politicians supported by the NRA, do not have their best interests at heart, nothing will change. Honestly, I think it will take until the next generation or two are running Congress, before any real change will happen. That is, of course, if this country isn't ripped apart at the the seams, before then. I hope, pray, and wish, I am wrong...but as someone who spent 5 1/2 years at University studying people, culture, and society, I look at my country, and I worry...
Load More Replies...i know this is supposed to wholesome but this is so messed up that he even needed to do this how many more mass shootings before they pull their head out their a*s and do something
It will happen again and again. Until the politicians stop taking bribes from the gun lobby, it will absolutely happen again. It's disgusting.
Load More Replies...Wonderful gesture, but it is so sad that it had to be done in the first place.
The coffin looks amazing and it's so sweet but I wish that this never had to happen
He's a special kind of person! I couldn't imagine even talking to those parents
My God this is heartbreaking. Trey should never have had to customise little coffins in the first place. The US truly has a severe problem with firearms and domestic violence. If it isnât talked about or resolved it will just continue to happen again and again.
as a mother myself even the thought of such ti y caskets is absolutely heartbreaking for me. imagine trying to pick out what to put on your own child's casket. my god
My daughter is 7, and the entire shooting horror breaks me if I think about it too deeply.
Load More Replies...This shooting shouldn't have happened, but it did, and this wonderful man did what he could. If it were a horrible bus crash that took these beautiful children away and Trey did this, would that make his impact any more or less? No - it would not.
this is so sad. this shouldn't have even need to happen :( god im grateful to him but seeing this tiny casket makes me sick
What a horrible, heartbreaking job to have to do, and what kindness and love to have the strength to do it. Bless all of them.
Wow. This needs. HUGE upvote. What a wonderful, humbling gift to give the grieving parents.
I wish we had learned this generous man's name through something positive. But I know his name now, and Trey Ganem will forever be associated with love and kindness.
PEOPLE - when will you realize guns don't kill people, people do. Everybody is screaming about the NRA and gun lobbyists...it's messed up and there should be better regulations & they make it easier for people to execute a mass shooting, but the Boston Marathon and the Oklahoma City bombing have proven, if people want to kill, they don't need a gun. A common household pressure cooker and a box of nails, drive into a crowd, h*ll - ram two planes into the World Trade Towers. People who want to hurt other people will find a way to do it. Poison, gas, explosives, something as benign as CO2 - a hose venting into a sealed room. Why do people think this is an acceptable way to vent their frustration, hate, anger with the world - killing innocent lives?? Is it that we have become desensitized as a result of Hollywood or video games? Is there too much war for too many stupid reasons, so people think it's OK to kill? That's what we have to fix.
The fact that Trey Ganem is an incredible human being willing to speak to the parents of murdered little children at the height of their grief to make each child a bespoke little coffin I don't think can be questioned. It's an incredibly heart-breaking task but his 'gift' shows that each child was an important individual to their family and loved ones. But the fact that there were so many because it is as a result of yet another mass shooting in the US, the only country on earth where this happens so often, is sickening. The financial power of the NRA lining the pockets of political parties and gutless individual politicians who would prefer influence rather than the lives of their children and adults (especially if their skin is brown), is utterly baffling and sickening to the rest of the world and many in the US. Trey is going to have a lifetime of this kind of work until American citizens rise up in huge numbers on the street and in voting booths in bipartisan support to bring in sensible gun laws like Australia has.
He should not have to customize caskets, but thank God he did! What an amazing gift he gave to those 19 families. They need every comfort, in every form they can get. God works in mysterious ways!
While it is a lovely gesture, I just can't get on board with calling this "wholesome" or "positive."
I have to agree, it's a nice tribute for these kids but they are still murdered children and anything connected with that is never going to be wholesome for me
Load More Replies...We keep blaming guns, but turns our every one of these crazy shooters is on anti-depression meds and the big pharma companies cover up that over-prescribing causes aggression.
What an amazingly thoughtful thing to do. So sorry he had to do it though!
Im crying imaging the little girl who will go into that coffin. Damn it all to hell.
Trey Ganem did such a beautiful thing for these families, but it breaks my heart that he needed to do it in the first place.
THere is something essentially bad about a country where this even has to be on the radar.
I saw a bit in the news about him. One kid got Superman. I cried the whole way through it. Love that he does this, rage that there is that need. We MUST change our mental health protocols and gun laws.
A true hero in the worst possible events. Every screw and nail must have pierced his heart.
Bless him, just reading about this again.............brought tears to my eyes. It's just so hard to think of someone being so mean and cruel as to shoot those poor babies!
I think this is a wonderful gesture so full of love in such a tragic event.
What a sad duty to have to perform. In a happier world, he would have been building them customized first homes.
Trey Ganem owns soulshine custom caskets, and is also a psychic medium. Some of his coffins Ideas come from the decreased. Wonderful gentleman who also is able to give messages to the family members.
Their should be no coffins in the first place. Shootings are absolutely disgusting and their should be more laws regarding guns and gun violence.
This made me tear up immediately. This was probably a tough thing to do..what an amazing person!
Even though I agree with Ekaterina... he is doing what he can. BAN GUNS FOREVER
Turning to your phone might just distance you from the colleagues and friends and family who could help.
"All it will do is temporarily distract you from your uncomfortable emotion," Johnson adds. "But those unpleasant feelings are there for a reason, and they communicate to us our needs, so we cannot just silence them with distractions. Once you become aware that what you actually need is support, then maybe you can reach out to a colleague and delegate some tasks.”
An Incredible Turnaround

"We believe that if we have all the facts, we can make better decisions and protect ourselves from danger," Johnson says.

Given that avoidance might not be practical, experts suggest these three ways to make your experience on the internet more positive:
- Be mindful of what you consume on social media. If you log on to connect with other people, focus on the personal news and photos shared instead of the latest headlines;
- Seek out the content that makes you happy to balance out your newsfeed. This may be images of cute kittens, beautiful landscapes, drool-worthy food videos, or something else. You could even follow a social media account dedicated to sharing only happy and positive news;
- Use social media to promote positivity and kindness. Sharing good things that are happening in your life can improve your mood, and your positive mood can spread to others. You may also like to compliment others on social media. While this might sound awkward, people will appreciate it more than you think.

You might also want to consider doing something nourishing for yourself – such as being outdoors in nature or making your favorite meal. This might help shift your mind from troubling news and create a more positive and resilient mindset that can better deal with worries.
At the end of the day, we have to accept that some things are just out of our control and focus on the ones that we can, in fact, change.
