I kind of wish I had done this. My oldest grandson (now 19) visited recently from out of state and a lot of what he wanted to do was revisit things he had fond memories of. We sat around a fire in my fire pit, we went to the beach and fed bread to the seagulls, visited the ocean learning center (has tanks and a touch pool of local sea life), he took a walk in my woods - 5 acres but back then it seemed like the 100 acre woods to him. He actually got lost once. And visited a few other places. Also some conversations about .. "remember that time". It was very nice. Kind of wish I'd made a more detailed journal over the years.

Here’s my grandfather’s stories, translated from Ukrainian: “1. Snarled at the kid. 2. Snarled at the kid. 2. Snarled at the kid. 4. Snarled at the kid… 128. Snarled at the kid. 129. Saw kid; cracked her kitten with my cane so hard, its head came off. Kid cried… 136. Haven’t seen kid for a week. 137. Kid saw me; started crying.” He hated kids. And cats. And learning English. (He never did do that last bit.)

This is precious indeed. I never met one side of my grandparents and the other set I rarely saw, once or twice a year. They had no time for me but when my cousins were born ten years later they got a brand new bed and bedding not the damp, mould smelling bed I'd had and fresh new clean bedding instead of the ancient smelly heavy itchy wool blanket that brought me out with a rash. They were invited to stay alone and taken to museums, pantomimes and theatres (London). I was never invited to stay. A grandparent like the OPs is precious beyond words ❤️

I wish. I wish I could find someone like this so very much. Someone to, not just do big things with, but little things. Like holding hands as we grocery shop. Or letting my fingers trail over her waist as I walk past. Laying her head upon my chest as we watch TV. The big things are great too, but the little things make so much. Some of my most favorite memories are of those rare times I had someone in my life, and I'd wake up to put my arms around her and she'd snuggle up against me and we'd just lay there.
