With so much pain and suffering going on in the world daily, we can sometimes forget just how full of beauty and goodness the world is. Well, today we’re here to remind you that human beings can be truly amazing, kind, and wholesome. In our opinion, there’s hardly anything better than someone reaching out and helping someone without expecting a reward. There can’t be darkness without light, and oh boy, is there a lot of light in the world.

The r/HumansBeingBros subreddit, a massive community of over 3.5 million members, celebrates people being total ‘bros’ to each other. It’s a subreddit that gives you a massive overload of kindness, and it’s nearly impossible not to leave it without a massive smile on your face. We’re featuring their very best posts that might just restore your faith in humanity.

Scroll down for the best pics you’ll probably see all day on the internet. Be sure to spread the cheer: send the post to your friends who need some cheering up. But above everything else, do your best to do something nice for someone else today, Pandas! Kindness has a habit of spreading, so why not give it a gentle nudge or twotoday?

Bored Panda got in touch with Suzanne Degges-White, who told us about altruism, the Golden Rule, and that people are kind to each other due to their family values, spiritual beliefs, and biology. Suzanne is a Licensed Counselor, Professor, and Chair at the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Northern Illinois University, and you'll find our full interview with her as you scroll down.

Suzanne, from Northern Illinois University, explained to Bored Panda that there are several reasons why we are kind to other people. "Many of us are raised to believe it is the 'right thing to do.' Basically, all spiritual belief systems have a version of the 'Golden Rule, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,'" she said, and most of you reading this will probably agree that you've heard of the Golden Rule in some shape or form before.

"We also do good turns because we know that one day we may be in need of a little 'generosity from the universe,' so it's like putting 'money' into a karma account," she said. However, there's a biological basis for altruism as well.

This isn’t just for school, it’s for everything in life. I was recently in a meeting where a lot of people would have been very negatively impacted by what was being said but didn’t/couldn’t speak up for themselves so I asked the hard questions for them, just to make sure that upper management knew the issues and knew the questions that needed answers. Always be willing to stand up for others.

My best friend struggled in school. She used to say that she knew all the right answers but couldn't say them when she was asked, mostly because of anxiety. She also struggled with reading, the words were all jumbled she said. We thought it was because she needed glasses and her family couldn't afford them. She lived in another town and had to wait for the school bus for 1-3 hours every evening. I stayed with her and read our homework out loud to help her. 15 years later I heard about something called "dyslexia". I called and told her about it, and that's the answer. She got help, and most important of all, she got help with her driver's license. Years after she quit high school because she felt too stupid. I'm still reading out loud. First to my kids and nieces and now to my husband. We're bored in isolation and reading brings a little fun to our dull days.

"Lastly, humans are wired so that when we do something kind for another, we feel good about ourselves and neurotransmitters like endorphins and oxytocin have been shown to get a boost when we do something good for another. It is through cooperation that society functions, so the survival of the human race depends on being willing to help others. Family values, spiritual beliefs, and biology all play a part in this motivation," Suzanne stressed that there are complex reasons why someone might do nice things.

"Many of us take pride in being of service to others as it is culturally valued and we want to hold significance in our worlds. So when we do good deeds, we show others our willingness to help those in distress/need; we live out faith-based encouragement to treat others the way we would like to be treated, we uphold family values, and our brains get a positive jolt of happiness when we help others," Suzanne told Bored Panda.

Dr. Mashalli was Egyptian and didn't "move to one of the poorer countries" - he lived in Egypt all his life, refusing to move elsewhere or turn his back on the poor so he could get rich treating the wealthy, choosing to live and work in the northern Egyptian city of Tanta, where he was awarded the title “Doctor of the Poor” by officials for serving the poorest people in the community for over 50 years. He was a great man.

At least a decade ago I seem to remember a news article about a homeless man who lived under a bridge, and would keep an eye out for people who might be considering jumping. If he saw someone heading out he'd walk up and start talking to them, just to say he cared about them. Nice story.

There was also a man, somewhere in the UK I think, who lived near some cliffs. Whenever he saw someone walking toward those cliffs, who looked like they had tragic intentions, he would go talk to them, and invite them to his house for a cup of tea and conversation. I forget how many lives he saved, but I know it was in the double digits! He's sadly passed away since then. But he was an angel in real life, long before he was an angel in Heaven!!

Founded all the way back in 2013, when life seemed a lot simpler than it does nowadays, the ‘Humans Being Bros’ subreddit has since then grown by leaps and bounds. And it doesn’t look like it plans on slowing down any time soon (unless someone happens to unplug the internet).

Unsurprisingly, the community is entirely focused on folks being excellent to each other and posting high-quality, genuine content. The moderators stress that there’s to be no hate speech and no “slap fights. Meanwhile, there’s also zero tolerance for politics, misinformation, and staged submissions. Oh, and if you’re here for memes, you won’t find any—there are other subreddits for that.

The instinct for being kind to others is hard-wired into us, psychotherapist Silva Neves explained to Bored Panda earlier. He told us that our brains reward us for being social and altruistic. At the same time, however, we also have a selfish side that’s focused on survival and hoarding resources.

Our desire to help others is in constant conflict with our inner wish to act in such a way as to protect ourselves. In short, people are constantly struggling between two different lines of action they’d like to pursue. We’re always on the lookout for how our kindness might backfire on us, according to Silva. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t wonderful benefits that come with being nice to others.

“Being kind is good for us because it gives us a sense of purpose, it raises our self-esteem, and it releases feel-good brain chemicals,” the psychotherapist told us. “It [kindness] is also good for others, obviously. So kindness is actually something that we, humans, are naturally driven to be.”

When my friend, dying of cancer, needed to go to the hospital for an infusion (turned out to be the last one), normally an ambulance would transport him. He had been on the Volunteer Fire Department for years, and from a child had loved fire trucks, so, with permission, the department's brand new truck, which he had not even seen, was used to transport him. They set him up behind a plexiglass windscreen, on his stretcher, and took him right down the main street, like a mini-parade. Horns honking, people waving. He died a week or so later. When his wife told me this I was close to crying for joy. WHAT A GIFT.

My grandmother and my father both passed in very depressing beige rooms with drop-ceilings. I've made it known that if it can be helped at all, I am to pass outdoors under the sky.

It was a very moving story. The ranger was only 62 and they took him all through the forest and even stopped by a stream so he could hear the water running.

Might wanna look up how disabled people feel about "inspiration porn". It helps no one. It puts people with disabilities on an impossible pedestal (yeah, not all disabled people can do that either) and makes people without disability feel as if they are underachieving. As I say, no one wins. That is not to say I don't celebrate this post's subject doing really well for herself. Inclusion matters and the promotion of this normalisation is very important. I wish I had seen more positive depictions of disability growing up as it would have helped my self esteem (I am disabled since birth). I'm not judging you and I want you to be aware of the discourse around "inspiration" so you have the knowledge.

Where I live, because you need a bill of sale to transfer vehicle registration, it's pretty common practice for people to transfer unwanted vehicles for a dollar. It's how I got my first car (which my dad bought at some point prior to that for $1000) and most of my friends got their first crappy car from somebody the same way too.

My husband and I are about to gift a car to one of our neighbors, and I am so excited! My husband works in the automotive industry and comes across some really fantastic deals sometimes. We paid $500 for the car, but could easily be resold for $15k. We’ve driven it for about a year and it was been wonderful for us. We recently got an outstanding deal on a truck, so we will be replacing the car with the truck. Our neighbor, who works at a local rescue mission, has been borrowing a family member’s car for the last few months because his car’s engine finally gave out. He is such a good neighbor and I really hope he accepts our offer to gift him the car!

My dad passed away in June 2019. He left his car to me. I already have a car so I never drove it. I've had several greedy people ask me for it. It just didn't feel right, so I held on to it. I've always felt bad for just letting it sit in my driveway when someone else could be using it. Last August my cousin got into an accident and her car was totaled. She's a wonderful person with a big heart. I called her and told her she could have my dad's car. She couldn't believe it. I let her know that he would have wanted her to have it. That definitely made her day and made me feel so good. Something my dad worked so hard for went to someone who truly needed it.

So important. So many overlook it, until it happens to them or their child. Maybe they're born that way or life throws a curve ball- but then we learn. Life is different, but no less valuable. Adapting to life's circumstances is a sign of strength, not pity, and these people totally deserve the same things we have

Guess who makes gay adoption political? The people who DON'T want it to happen. And guess what political party they belong to?

I had this happen to me. My car overheated and white smoke pouring out under the hood. I'm on my way to work trying to figure out what I can do. Random guy stops..sees it's a hose that busted near a clip. Breaks out a box cutter, cuts the broken end off. Reclips it and puts coolant in it. I was crying...offered to pay him $20. He said "nope...I've got a daughter and would hope someone would be kind enough to help her out when needed. just pay it forward." Ironically enough...a few weeks later, near the same exit...helped tow a woman with a small compact to a parking lot when her car was pouring oil so bad that her engine was rolling black smoke. I gave her and her dog a lift to the bus station so she could catch a bus back to where she lived 80 miles away. She offered to pay me and I told her the same thing "Pay it forward."

1974, just after Christmas, went to SeaTac (Seattle-Tacoma) airport to pick up a friend. One lane cleared on the highway, 20 mph, good speed. Jerk blows by on the ice and spins out, and off I go. Left my car away from the mess and walked into the airport. There were numerous cars left like mine. Weather sent his plane to Portland, so I had to stay the night at the airport. When he got in the next morning we walked out to where my car was, and then started wondering where the nearest phone was to call a tow (1974, right? - no cell phones) Guy comes along with a 4WD and offers to pull us out. He wouldn't take payment. Just MERRY CHRISTMAS, and on to the next.

Normal backcountry etiquette--you bring lost stuff out to the trailhead if you can be sure of what trailhead it goes to, if that's not an option (generally because multiple trailheads serve the point you found it) you make it as visible as you can.

It's certainly a good start. Unfortunately it only applies to "state-regulated" plans, so it's sadly not universal. But if we don't get perfect the first time, any progress is still good.

At my son's 2nd birthday party, I went all out. But none of our friends (who promised they'd be there) ended up showing. Thankfully, my son was too young to understand or remember the snub. And thank God for family. My mother, (now-ex, lol) stepfather, my sister, brother-in-law, and my two nephews and niece came. So we still had people. And my son still got plenty of attention, and had plenty of fun. But that was still the last birthday party I ever had for my son, at my own home, lol. After that, I had them at other places (like restaurants, etc) so someone else could do the majority of the cooking and cleaning, lol. In any case, I had a big canopy set up in the back yard, and we had all this food, and not nearly enough guests to eat it. So when some of the neighborhood kids came walking by, we invited them, and their parents, to our yard, to eat and celebrate. The kids were thrilled, the parents were gratified, and I got to share my son's special day with more people, lol. That felt great. 😊

"Maybe at first, you start out doing things to help others only to get attention and praise, but you will find that doing things for others helps you feel good and when you see people’s responses. Once you see the difference you can make in the world and to your own happiness and altruism can grow naturally," she said that when people experience kindness, they are more likely to be kind themselves. At the same time, kindness can be a way of forming strong social bonds and increasing the likelihood of getting help when we need it most.

"There’s an important point too here for people on the receiving end of kindness. If they can, it’s, of course, great to say thank you and add the positive impact it has for you e.g., 'Thank you, It’s great to know that someone cares.' That can really boost the glow for the giver and encourage them to give more," she pointed out that when someone vocalizes how grateful they are, this helps cement others’ altruistic habits.

Similar thing happened to me. When I was a kid, I accidentally hit a car with my door cause it was super windy. I was so worried and ashamed cause my parents were freaking out. The next day we get a call and those amazing people didn’t charge a thing. They just said to have a merry Christmas and not to worry at all.😭bless them

ive seen the video. the cashier, rebecca montano, took the baby while the customer seemed spaced out & then grabbed the customer's arm from across the counter & held her up for a few seconds while the seizure took hold, slowing her fall. without the cashier doing this, the mother could've sustained traumatic brain injury from hitting her head on the linoleum floor with no way to catch herself. rebecca montano saved two lives that day.

Bless this soul. As an epileptic myself, the quick reactions of others when a grand mal seizure occurs is so vital. Even after the seizure is “over” and the brain is hitting the reset button, the person is so vulnerable. They appear awake but in reality have no idea what is going on around them. Awareness is key.

I had something like this happen to me. The victim didn't have a baby, just fell down off her bike in the street. A couple of passersby and I stayed with her, called an ambulance, and made sure no cars accidentally ran over her and nobody took her bike. It was surreal. She was completely unresponsive, albeit breathing, for at least 15 minutes. I'm not sure it was epilepsy because she wasn't shaking. It was a good thing someone helpful was nearby.

This was my worst nightmare as a baby mama, that my body would suddenly stop working while I held my daughter. They're so tiny, so lucky the woman behind the counter saw it and reacted fast ❤️

The full story was on Youtube. You can see the mother holding the baby trying to hold back her seizure for a couple seconds. The cashier realised what was happening just in time and as soon as the baby left the mother's arms she collapsed on the floor. Another customer came and the cashier (who was the owner as well) gave him the baby so she could call an ambulance. Long story short the mother said she has seizures often and knows when she's going to have one so she tried to withstand it (which is very painful to do) so that her baby could be saved. Fortunately everyone's okay and happy. Mad props to the cashier.

A friend of mine has seizures, and as one is coming on he has a very particular 'look.' He may be standing oddly, just looking straight ahead doing his best to stay upright. It's difficult to describe unless you've seen it a few times. After noticing, it's a matter of grabbing him so he doesn't hit the floor too hard.

This happened to me, (not the baby part tho) I'm not epilectic but had a grand mal seizure in a store. I "came to" surrounded by a group of terrified looking, extremely compassionate people and with a jacket under my head. They called 911 and turns out I had an electrolyte imbalance, which was treated and no more seizures. I am extremely grateful to every single one of them!!! Definitely a God moment for me, I couldve been home alone or worse-driving

I remember seeing this. An I remember that woman as a hero. I read the whole story and it made me cry. I would do this. But there are people out there who would not lay a finger to this. This woman is truly wonderful. I have three beautiful girls. An I have once saved a life of little boy that use to live next to us. He was in front of a church bus walking from play ground. The person driving bus I knew could not see him. Everyone else was watching there own kids and stuff. I had one kid in my arms . My husband was watching our two other kids. An I ran to him and the bus stoped cause they saw me. My kids played with him and everything. I would have done that for anyone's kid.

It happened to me too. Due to multiple operations in the stomach area I get to hurt terribly after wacuuming, so I asked a young man in the nabourhood if he knew someone who would do it for me once a week for a little money (I am a widow). He said he would do it himself, and has been doing it for about 2½ years. A year ago I got a staggering and unexpected bill, and asked him to come only every 2. week, because I couldn't afford to pay for every week. He answered: "How about every week at half the price, till you have paid that bill?". What could I say but thankyou.

This absolutely amazes me. If you think about it, whole new worlds are being created daily. They may not be physical worlds, but they exist anyway. A person in Australia and a person in Mexico, though they will probably never meet in real life, can have a relationship in a game and create their own existence. I listen to my boys gaming and just like in families, they help each other, they seem to have each other's back and they even fight (and even then, no one seems to stay angry for long). I'm kind of jealous, to be honest. They will get to know so many more interesting people than I ever will.

TBH, I have found the younger generations to be more open and helpful than I recall as the norm when I was their age. Just this last week, I experienced several occurrences of staff in retail going WAAAAyy above and beyond, just to save me a small bit or a purchase, or assisting me in finding an item. And always polite to the point of causing me worry that I had slipped into a cult, rather than the grocery store. :)

As a wheelchair user myself, this makes me incredibly happy. It's hard to feel accepted and a part of society when we don't see us disabled people represented as equals. And oftentimes, there are no disabled people in the media or ads. I've noticed more ads with disabled people and it's about time, honestly.

I got out of my car, walked over to where the poor thing was, picked it up and put it in the grass on the side of the road. In the nearest town to me (in Norway), there's a special needs guy who spends his days rummaging through the bins to find bottles. He doesn't need the money, he just likes it. A few years ago he was given an award for his recycling work, plus a high visibility jacket. I believe people voted for who should get the award.

Same in Australia, and these holders would make life so much easier for those who do collect drink containers. It's so depressing seeing elderly people and others rooting through dirty rubbish bins. And they help to keep drink containers off the streets and into recycling, where they belong.

The money thing is in israel too, for global warming reasons tho. But the bottle thing as sounds really nice! We have special accessible bins just for bottles (again, for gw but still accessible). There is an old lady living my street that I hear every-day walking around with a suitcase-cart thing full of bottles, it's always full, she either gets it from collecting from these things or from walking around the mall asking people with empty bottles if they're done and she can take them

In Denmark you can also get some money when you turn in empty cans. Which is why it makes me so angry to come across cans which are flattened, so they do not work in the automat. I cannot for the life of me, think why people do so. Everyone must know, that that can, if not turned in, will last for hundreds of years messing up the landscape.

Why hasn't anyone done that in the US? It's because our citizens are primarily garbage themselves. We have 'taught' ourselves NOT to care about each other. It's ugly and wrong. It embarrasses me! We need to do better! This is such a small concept, but it opens up a whole new idea of BEING! We CAN do and BE better!

Back in the 80's, when publishers started to change content in order to create "new editions" of the same material...thus systematically eliminating the ability to buy used textbooks for a class, my history professor asked each student what edition they had and proceeded to write different course syllabi with appropriate page numbers corresponding to each different textbook edition. He hated publishers, too.

I had a prof not only write his own textbook but then asked us to help him find errors in it before he sent it to the publisher. It was bound with a plastic spiral binder.

Better than my teacher. First lesson, the professor spent half that time trying to sell the textbook. And all his lessons were just images of the textbook with him telling us to buy it. Instant hate.

Someone in my class wears the same shirt every single day, we have uniforms so they cost like $15 a shirt. One of the teachers, yes, a teacher, bought him 10 new shirts and she also buys snacks and full meals to keep in her cabinet for if people in her class need food. I don’t know if she has a second job or not, but whether she does or doesn’t, she’s an amazing person and I will always appreciate what she does for all of us students.

I feel so lucky bullying was practically non-existent in my school. We didn’t have much those days in that country but we were kinder to each other. Btw we also had a boy who wore the same shirt and pants every day through high school. You can see it fading on yearbook photos. If anything we were impressed how he keeps it so clean.

I work answering emergency call and we've had people calling 999/112 because services similar to Lifeline here are just not answering the phone. For our own safety we aren't obliged to give out our names but if someone asks I (and the majority of my colleagues) will always give a fake one and will no way hang up on someone who is having a hard time and needs help.

I work for a helpline. Giving our name (real or fake, we can choose), helps the caller to open up, share their names, and enables us to better connect with them. Why would you ever hang up on a someone who needs help?!!

My mum used to volunteer with the Samaritans (UK equivalent). All volunteers were allocated fake names which they kept for the duration of the time they volunteered with the service. Meant callers could “get to know” who they were talking with. My mum had a few regulars. That was 30 odd years ago… not sure if it’s the same now.

i had to travel out for an interview in an area that was normally 100 degrees in a car with no a/c. i didn't want to show up all sweaty & wrinkled so i had called around in that area for a motel that would allow me use their shower - that's all - not to stay. no one agreed unless i paid for a night. finally tried a b&b and explained my situation. the lady said fine & asked when my interview was & how far i was traveling (85 mi.). told her it was in the afternoon; she said fine. it was a small "mansion" reminiscent of antebellum style. i showered & when i came out she had a tall glass of iced tea & cookies so i would have something inside me. she told me to leave my travel clothes there & pick them up afterwards. when i did i found out that she had set me up in a small room for the night, cooked a small dinner, and we had a wonderful evening sitting on the veranda. i didn't get the job but i certainly made a friend.

At a grocery store, I was once in line when a woman asked if she could go ahead of me. She was clearly dressed for a job interview, but for the fact that her pantyhose had multiple, US-quarter sized holes in them. She was holding a pack of new pantyhose in her hand. She told me she was running late for a job interview because she'd spent so much time at home trying to find a good pair of hose. I let her go ahead of me, and I wished her well with her interview.

Scooters/bikes are meant to do that when traffic is stationary and jay walking isn’t a thing here in UK. If you waited for a crossing to cross the road you’d be in danger of living your entire life on the same side of the road (I exaggerate but seriously, it’s not a thing here).

It's terrible how the Republicans have tried to suppress the vote in the USA. Seems they can't win an election fairly. Have to intimidate and block voters who might vote for a Democrat.

I am Jewish. The Holocaust is hard to hear about, but we MUST continue to teach and talk about it (and other issues facing Jews. Antisemitism didn't end with the Shoah). For a good Jewish educational book I recommend reading People Love Dead Jews by Dara Horn. It's a series of essays on antisemitism. When hearing about the Holocaust, people often think it can never happen again, and it won't if we don't let it, but the way to prevent another Shoah is by teaching about the one that has happened. Never forget.

My French teacher in high school was a holocaust survivor. She was about 5 years old when it all went down. Her parents fought to get her to France to board a ship to America. She said they were hardly fed anything on the ship during the journey. When they arrived in New York, they were met by cousins that took them to a small apartment. There on the table were four whole roasted chickens. She said they picked those birds clean. She was always an upbeat lady..very bold and forward. But she was quiet after she relayed her story. After class, I asked if she was OK. She said that the day she boarded the ship in France was the last time she ever saw her parents. They didn't make it. I couldn't help but give her a hug.

Mozzarella are you ok? In these posts are lots of examples of people being nice. But your reaction every time is negative. You might probably be not aware but when you say things like that you take away the whole positive feel of the message. If you like reading, try something Rutger Bregman wrote. With some facts that maybe our view is too negative compared to the facts of what is happening in the world.

I fostered my nephews for 2 years. Foster parents get paid to watch children from the government; In the U.S. anyway. It's not a lot but it's enough to buy a kid a bike. I understand the money is for food and clothes for the children but at some point you do have enough to cover a bike.

This is wrong either way. Either they are saying that non-smokers don't normally get a break? Which means that they need to address that issue! Or that they discriminate against smokers and give the others additional leave. The additional time doesn't add up anyway, Let's do the maths: Japan has an average of 245 working days per year. Two 15 minute smoke breaks a day equates to 122.5 hours. Divide that by the 40 hour working week* and you get just over 3 weeks. (*The Japanese labour Law limits work to a 40 hour week, although realistically around 22% of the working population generally do around 50hour weeks and some employers have a requirement of 80hours of overtime!)

It makes me really sad that people use religion to spread hate in the world. Like I don’t care what you say, but if your using the “your not a real Christian” or whatever, it shows a lot more about how much you know about your religion than I do. Every bible I have ever read has different values, but love and kindness is at the core of all of them, and if you use your religion to hate, you are everything but a true (Christian, Muslim, catholic, Protestant, etc.)

Thank you! I am a Christian and I hate it when other Christians make it look like we are all conservative homophobic old karens. If those people actually followed what the religion is supposed to stand for maybe we wouldn’t be as disliked by non-christians.

I (GenX) had the following surreal conversation with my mother (Silent-Boomer cusp) when my daughter started puberty. Mom: What would you do if daughter told you she was a lesbian? Me: I don't understand the question. Mom: What would you do? Me: Thank her for her honesty and reassure her that I will always love her and support her. Mom: Don't you want her to get married and have kids? Me: Only if that's what she wants. Also, we live in Massachusetts; gay marriage is legal here. What actually is the point of this discussion? Mom: *walks off, frustrated and angry* Me: Wtf just happened?

So I understand homosexuality might not be acceptable to a person based on their religion. I can even understand to a degree that your faith won't allow you to even associate with family that is gay. What I don't understand is taking it further than that and harassing, belittling, abusing etc gay people. Show me in any translation of the Bible (new testament specifically) where it says to persecute homosexuals. It doesn't in any version I've read. Any Christian who actively attacks the LGBT community is a fake Christian, and I suspect the same is true for most other religions

I was taking courses to be a forensic anthropologist at the time so I wrote the essays in relation to my studies. My proudest moments were when the professor came to me and said "These were awesome! this happened to me. my brother and I were driving home from high school when our tire popped and we had to pull over into a neighborhood. Mey brother (18) and I (16) have never had to change a tire before, and didn't know how. Both of our parents and our other brother were too sick to drive... (GI issues) We got a vauge idea from the internet, but the lug nuts weren't coming off. this guy pulled up wearing a mechanic suit from honda, and said we needed wd-40. he rang a neighboors door and they had some. He stayed to make sure that we knew what we were doing, and was late to work because of it. We didn't even get his name. This was like 2 weeks ago? We also were on a tight schedule because we had an exam that went after school, and then had to go change and drive to a track meet. We were late to the meet, but got there with just enough time to warm up and then race. If it wasn't for that guy, we would've never gotten the nuts off.

Exactly. I helped a homeless couple with money each week. They also stand on a corner to ask for help. Turned out the guy had been saving the money to buy an old run down RV. He surprised his partner on her birthday. The RV then had an issue with a bearing going out on the rear wheels. He found a mechanic that would come out to fix it...I offered to pay. Mechanic only needed money for the part and donated his time. They are now mobile and able to get away from the dangerous areas of town where the drug addicts hang out. But they don't leave completely because he is trying to help out as many homeless people as he can to survive on the street. I will help him anyway I can to achieve this, buying tents and sleeping bags for anyone that is newly homeless. I don't care what put them there...I just don't want anyone dying from no one caring.

You know, it never occurred to me before, but in a sport considered "feminine," there probably ends up being a lot of camaraderie between the dudes. It's not quite the same, but I work in a niche industry where we're all *technically* competitors, but we also are all very close because no one understands us like each other and so we all want to see everyone else succeed. It's a lovely thing.

I'd love to donate blood. Unfortunately, I have tried it three times so far and each time I was really, really sick for several weeks afterwards. It seems that it takes my body awfully long to replace the missing blood. I cannot do it. However, I am at least also registered that I would donate stem cells if there is a fit and of course I carry an organ donor card, just in case...

That is so true. I had to let my sweet Lhasa apso's go last year after 17 years..I am single, no kids...They were my everything and yes..I have really felt that loss of our routines and how much they needed me, and how very much I needed them. And yes, grieving for them has been more intense than grieving for some of my own family..😥

I was doing night shift at a vet clinic once and an elderly lady rang me in tears. Her cat had died a couple of weeks before and she was grieving deeply. But what she rang me to ask was if it was wrong to grieve so much because all of her family were telling her she was being ridiculous and she needed to get over it, "it's just a damn cat" etc. Just about broke my heart. Needless to say I spent a long time on the phone with her telling her how it was right and proper to grieve for anyone who had loved her as much as her cat did. People can be such thoughtless arseholes.

My two cats are quite healthy and get regular vet check ups, but they're both entering their teens. I've had pet cats before, but this is the first time that they're "my cats", that I'm the primary care giver and the one they are attached too (and man are they attached ;-p). I've never been there previously when the other pet cats in my life had passed or had to be put down, but I know I will have to deal with that with both of them. I have terrible anxiety about it and try not to think about it. I know I won't be prepared, but I love them so much and wouldn't have it any other way.

on march 16, my thirteen year old cat annie unexpectedly started experiencing the final stages of heart failure in the afternoon. we took her to the vet, brought her back home, & i spent all my time with her, cuddling her & telling her how much i love her & calling her by all her favorite nicknames, until she passed away in my arms at exactly noon the following day. it was heartbreaking for sure, but believe me when i tell you it was so incredibly worth it. knowing that i was there for her until the end, making sure she was comfortable & loved with her favorite person by her side, is helping me come to terms with her passing. it still hurts like hell & i miss my best friend every day, but being there for her in the end was a beautiful gift for the both of us. you're making the right decision.

there's a large biking community where I live, so the are some very high-quality bikes. Sadly, a lot of them get stolen. a lot of times people are in a position where they need to steal to survive, which is heartbreaking.

Everyone needs mental health days. They should be a required benefit of any company. I know that people have vacation days, but those should be spent with family having fun. I'm talking about days where you can just decompress...by yourself or with your bff if necessary. Sometimes we can't control when we need a break.

Our school district hired a new superintendent sometime close to the start of lockdown. I knew he was going to be great when one of his early emails explained how even kids need mental health days and he encouraged parents to utilize them if their kids asked but also encouraged us to make that decision if we felt it was needed. It's a very refreshing attitude and one I hope gains more traction.

I do the same kind of thing with my son and his D&D play. He texts me often to help him with story narratives and I always take a moment to think about something different and inventive he can do. But I also read up on D&D and try to learn about the mythology of the game. I got mega points the other day when I mentioned Vecna.

My wife and a friend did this at the start of Covid. Didn't have a 3D printer, but a local school had several of them sitting idle. The school were reluctant, but my wife talked them into doing it and promised the school wouldn't have to pay for materials. The materials were paid for by donations, but my wife paid for some of it. They made 100's of them as well as fabric face masks. It wouldn't have been possible without the school and the friend helped a lot, but it was my wife's idea. She was a little surprised when everyone started taking credit for it though. The school did some PR making out it was all their idea and the friend even claimed to have come up with the idea. My wife didn't do it for any recognition, but was a little upset by the betrayal from both parties.

And not only teachers. And also not only when someone looks upset. I have a colleague who gives us the lates updates on our software about once a month and I think he's doing it really great, good to listen to, always prepared. And he always seems to be absolutly confident. So after being at this company for nearly 10 years I just wanted to tell him how great it is to watch him. And he told me, that he thinks that it's so boring and that he always hesitates to go on these meetings, because he doesn't want to bore anyone. - that blew my mind, I would have nerver imagined that he could think something like this. So, when you think that someone does something great, tell them!

Resources like textbooks should be available to students at the point of teaching!. I am doing my third degree, and I have bought three books just because I really enjoyed those subjects. All other materials have been made available through college, professors, library. Wikipedia is not a peer-reviewed material. BUT Wikipedia lists reference list that can be useful. Amazon is a seller not an education resource. Again if the book is needed for a course/class it should be available free of charge. I don't understand how higher education costs so much in USA and you still have to pay for access to materials. I got a grant to do my degrees, and all materials were made available before semester started. I'm doing life sciences, so all my journals and articles are behind paywall, but if I email lecturer, author or library they will get me access. This should be standard

Remember the nature of the "new edition" textbook publisher scam. They release a new edition, thereby forcing you to buy the new book instead of used books. However, they are lazy, and essentially change nothing. Ask your teacher if you can get away with the last edition of the book. 9 out of 10 times I tried this throughout college (in general education classes), my professors said the publisher hadn't actually changed any information, just moved chapters around.
