Little Girl Born With A White Patch Of Hair Which Is Exactly The Same As Her Mum’s

We’re not sure what the odds are of four people in one family having the same white patch of hair, but we’re pretty sure they’re pretty slim. Still, that’s exactly what happened when little MilliAnna Worthy from Ridgeland, South Carolina, was born. The little girl, now 18 months old, has the same distinctive genetic inheritance as her mother, Brianna, as well as her grandmother and great-grandmother.

The white locks are caused by poliosis, a condition that creates a lack of pigment in the hair and surrounding skin. “We are unsure how far back the hair color and skin discoloration goes as my grandmother was adopted as a child and hasn’t met her biological family,” Brianna told the Daily Mail. “I was hoping she did have it. My younger sister that my mother had a few years after me didn’t get it, so I didn’t know if MilliAnna was going to, but once I had my beautiful baby and they laid her on my chest, and I saw she had it I was so happy.”

Little MilliAnna was born with the same unique white fringe as her mom

And it looks even more awesome 18 months later!

“We are unsure how far back the birthmark goes as my grandmother was adopted as a child and hasn’t met her biological family,” Brianna said

“I was hoping she did have it. My younger sister that my mother had a few years after me didn’t, so I didn’t know if MilliAnna was going to”

“But once I had her and they laid her on my chest and I saw she had it I was so happy”

“I grew to end up really loving it in my hair and was confident that it was my own unique signature look”

on the sixth pic from the top(where she sits on the edge of don't-know-english-name-of-it) she's sooo ADORABLE. the smile is priceless. my daughter was smiling like that on every picture as soon as she had enough teeth to brag with. also to the subject of this article: that's unique and beautiful. also fhe fact that they have it on the fringe and not on some random place is very nice. i'd love to "suffer" from such condition.

Baby is beautiful. Having the white is nothing to be ashamed off and no reason to have to hide it. Good for mom to teach her child to be proud of who she is rather than hide who she is to please others. When she doesn't make a big deal of it others won't either.

I had a friend in school who had dark glossy black hair ... and a white streak. No one was mean to her about it ever to my knowledge. When we went to High School, we found our room teacher/English teacher also had a white streak in much the same place ! I have a mild form of it. But it's hardly noticeable on my blonde hair. Also, my lighter streak is underneath the rest of it, so it really can't be seen unless I point it out. I also have a patch on my back where the skin is lighter. It's small, but noticeable.

No it is not Waardenburg syndrome, it's call Piebaldism. Look up the page on Facebook. Waardenburg and Vitaligo are common miss diagnosis. I know because I have it. Waardenburg is symptomatically also comes along with deafness, blindness, two different colored eyes and widely spaced eyes, and other health issues, which none of us have.

There's also something called the waardenburg syndrome. My whole family has it. It's a white streak with patches of two toned skin. I've know about this for a long time now. It's common in our family. Glad people say it's beautiful because people would not get near some of my family members because everyone thought it was a disease.

Diane, Waardenburg was a misdiagnosis that I received as well, it is not. If you have people with deafness, blindness, widely spaced eyes, two different colored eyes, etc, that is Waardenburg. If not, it is Piebaldisim. Look it up on Facebook, there is a page with hundreds from around the country with it.

They are all beautiful but this isn't a birthmark. This is piebaldism, caused by a mutation in the KIT gene. A parent with this has a 50% chance of passing it on to their offspring. They are proof of the fantastic diversity that exist among humans.

That's very sweet and all, but this unusual "birthmark" is a marker of a few genetic diseases, most commonly Waardenburg syndrome. This baby needs to be evaluated to rule out a few diseases before we can all go back to admiring her!

The white patch could actually be easily dyed with harmless henna and this girl would be saved from a lot of unkind stares and comments throughout life. But no, mom wants her daughter to walk the path of learning to live with the stares and teasing and learning to love her white patch of hair as much as she does. I think the mother has forgotten how long and hard a journey that may have been for herself.

Ironically it's 2016 and in America people dye their hair to whatever color they want. A white patch of hair on a baby isn't such a big deal to see.

If I had a spot like that and I would have remembered the bad times that I had a school with other kids picking at me, I would have desired something better for my kids. This is just mean, egoistic and a genetic problem. Just look at her legs, she's gonna be so self concious about it.

“I plan to raise my daughter knowing she is beautiful and special and to not listen to people mean comments at times” - I don't think it's that mean. Indeed she will be self-conscious, but her mother knows that and she seems to have good plans already. It will be tough, but she'll grow even tougher. Best wishes for this family.

Its called Waardenburg syndrome. It is hereditary. So the odds of this happening were 50-100%.

They need to be checked out for Waardenburg syndrome- A genetic disease that classically presents with a white forelock of hair. That is why the other family members have it.

We've always called this the "birthmark". It runs in my family also. My dad had it along with his sisters. My sister and a lot of my cousins have this "birthmark". Not unusual to us.

I was born with the same distinct birthmark. I also have the white pigment in various areas on my body. My 2nd born son has the same markings...so does his 2 sons. It is a hereditary oddity.

My sister in law and her little girl have it, as well as my father in law and his sister and their mom. So its gone down 4 generations so far. I know that my niece got teased growing up. People tease when they are not educated.

My 3 sisters and 2 brothers have inherited a white forlock from our father but being blonde when younger it didnt stand out till we all older and greyer. We all love our grey forlocks now as they add interest to our grey hair

And if you were born with it, your Doctor made a misdiagnosis, which is common with Piebalders.

They are all beautiful but this isn't a birthmark. This is piebaldism, caused by a mutation in the KIT gene. A parent with this has a 50% chance of passing it on to their offspring. They are proof of the fantastic diversity that exist among humans.

It's not called Whitlock Syndrome, It's called Piebaldism, I know because I have it. It is commonly misdiagnosed as Waardenburg Syndrome or Vitiligo, but I have never heard of Whitlock Syndrome!

That's very sweet and all, but this unusual "birthmark" is a marker of a few genetic diseases, most commonly Waardenburg syndrome. This baby needs to be evaluated to rule out a few diseases before we can all go back to admiring her!

What??? so we can't "admire" her until she is medically proven fit? What kind of monster are you???
