It wouldn’t surprise anyone to say that one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in this crazy world is cat logic. It’s something so common that we don’t think twice about our cats acting weird, but the whole question “Why?” remains in the back of our minds pretty much all the time.
There are volumes upon volumes of books and articles from feline behavior specialists created to help us navigate through the weird and oddly wonderful world of cats, but they too seem to fall short when it comes to practice. From cat sits and cat crazes, to cats pspspsps’ing you and jumping their way through the ceiling in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, these are just some quirky things felines do.
Thanks to the subreddit “What's Wrong With Your Cat?” all catto owners have a safe place to talk about hard things in a bid to get this question answered one day. At the same time, weird cat behavior is the perfect laughing material that combines ensued hilarity, high levels of surprise, and unpredictable furry balls. Because honestly, the world without them would be a miserable place that we, the cat people, would refuse to set foot in.

My cat insists that she sits on my chest when Im in the bathtub. Its terrifying bc she also will FREAK OUT if she gets wet so its a very careful balance.

Bored Panda reached out to Ingrid Johnson, the certified cat behavior consultant who runs “Fundamentally Feline,” to find out the expert-proved reasons why cats do such weird stuff. Ingrid said that it's due to the fact that their “bodies are extremely flexible and they are naturally curious yet cautious, so they get themselves into precarious situations quite readily. Cats also like to be up high, which is why you see the cat in the shower caddy.”
Ingrid also said that much of feline behavior that looks funny and goofy to us comes from their natural instincts. “Cats like small, confined spaces. They like to hide and feel safe. That is why we often see them squished into seemingly uncomfortable spots.”
This is why they like cardboard boxes: because cardboard can actually assist a cat in maintaining their "thermal neutral zone." The cat behaviorist explained further: “since cardboard is insulating, it helps cats maintain their body temperature of 100-102.5 degrees easily without having to expel much energy."

My 20yo moggy prefers to drink straight from the tap, will yell at me/any visitors until we turn it on. Encouraged her when she did it as a kitten because it was amusing, & have now spent 20 years as her 'sink slave,' turning taps on (loud) demand numerous times a day 😆

Over the kitchen sink no less. Couldn't be near the couch, recliner or TV. Tests your love (or gullibility) by making you come to her.
When it comes to some of the more typical feline behavior, Ingrid said that it’s their need to scratch. “That behavior is as innate as a dog barking or a bird's need to fly,” she explained.
Moreover, felines are “fastidious groomers, better than most other species. They are solitary predators and really do not need much help from humans with regards to survival.”

In a previous interview, we reached out to the creator of the “What’s Wrong With Your Cat” subreddit, which, at the time, had 200k members. Since being featured on Bored Panda 5 months ago, the community has expanded to 239k members.
The redditor just-a-traveler said that he got the idea to create the subreddit after seeing “What’s Wrong With Your Dog.” It was meant to be a companion subreddit for cat people.
“Both subreddits serve as a place for folks to show off their pets being goofs,” he said. He was also laconic when asked about the idea behind it: “the images pretty much speak for themselves.”

I'm standing by my neighbors front door, having a conversation with her. To her right was the bathroom door where the cat has it's litter box. As we are talking, I see something moving at the base of the closed door. I started laughing as I saw a cat paw stuffed under the door, swiping at air on the other side. My neighbor bent down and poked at the paw. I'm sure the cat was on the other side saying "OMG! I found something!!!!"

Maybe he recognizes you and is confused why you are "in" there? Cats don't get reflections. Best example was when I played with a cat in front of a dark window front at night. I moved the toy out of her sight and she found it first in the reflection... and continued to watch the reflection's movements intently for many many minutes while I was moving the toy right behind her.

Please note that according to the original poster on Reddit; Winston is shaved in the summer by a veterinarian to keep him cool and prevent matting. (However, I disagree with their vet for a couple reasons but I’ll allow everyone to do their own research. Please though don’t shave your cat at home. A cat’s skin is thin and can easily be cut. Leave the shaving to your veterinarian who will have the professional grooming tools and the knowledge if something accidentally goes wrong.)

No decent vet would suggest shaving for anything other than dealing with horrible matted chunks of fur or surgical. As you are aware, cats fur is excellent at keeping them warm in winter and cool in summer. The poor cat won't grow its fur long and thick enough to be warm in winter when it's shaved. It's not only cruel, it's completely unnecessary.

Merino: I had a Shaded Silver Persian and he got so matted ( cat sitter let him out in rain when we were gone) I had to get him shaved. The electric razor overheated and it hurt him. I was holding him on table and got bit through my hand! It wasn't his fault. When I brought him home all he was , was this huge head and a pouf on the tail. He was so humiliated, he hid under the bed for a week ( except to eat). Me, I ended up in hospital on I. V. Antibiotics. Lesson learned!

Just making sure the ghosts and poltergeists behave themselves. Your cat is the gatekeeper to the other dimensions. Treat kitty well, and you will never be haunted. Either that, or there may be bugs or rodents in your walls that the cat can hear, but you can’t. Might want to have them checked.

I just took a pic of my cat today doing this very thing. He sits on the bed staring at the reflection of the birds landing on the window sill. Like a statute. Every day he comes in at the exact time the sun shows this. Meanwhile, 1 meter away, is a magnificent cat tree with 3 tall seats, all in front of the very window with the very birds.

I have 4 cats. I keep a little treat bowl next to lamp which is a foot and a half from me while I sleep. I will randomly put treats in there. All night I feel cats walking over my back (or front) and head as they Check the treat bowl. All night. I also put 9 lives real food in there. They refuse to eat hard food in the kitchen. We were going through way too much soft food. If I put the 9 lives in a treat bowl they think it is a treat and they think they are getting full on treats. I'm out smarting 4 cats. I feel like that's a win.

That is so sweet of Peep though. 💜 My cat Sophie wants attention, she will sit in the kitchen floor or the hallway & cry constantly until I get up to pet her and everytime we do this, she makes me follow her to the bedroom so I can pet her while she eats, after a cpl bites she needs to chew on a string of some sorts to "floss" then goes back to eating, chewing, repeat till belly is full. My other cat if she wants attention she just jumps up and stares at you until you pet her, or she'll just walk across you & lay down on the other side.

My huge dopey mastiff will sit snapping at the air when there's flies around. Not sure if he's ever caught any, but it makes him happy, his teeth make great clacking sounds, & it terrifies people that don't know him/are nervous around dogs 😄

😆 Earl reminds me of my cat Sophie She used to drink water out of the sink dishes as well, so I got a cup & filled it with water, just for her. She drinks from the cup every time she jumps on the counter, and occasionally will still go in the sink to drink water out of something else.

When I saw the musical Cats, I was pretty amazed how well the cast had observed and integrated cat behavior and body language into their roles. Looking at these, had the cast observed the ones here, that musical would have turned out a lot different!
