As a person with ADHD and sensory issues, I get overwhelmed a lot. Got any tips or tricks to help me?

I feel you, one thing my therapist taught me that helps a ton: 54321

5 things you see
4 things you hear
3 things you touch
2 things you smell
1 thing you taste or feel

Also, noise cancelling headphones are the greatest invention since indoor plumbing and the tampon.

Make a room dark, make a nest, put on a familiar talking book, and stroke my cat with my eyes closed. Focusing on the softness of the cat’s fur, her purring, and the predictable rhythm of the book is calming and grounding.

I’d try talking to urself in ur head and saying all the good stuff that’s gonna happen today. I get dizzy and claustrophobic when I’m at at school with all the people squeezing through doors and stuff, and I do that and it ally works. Or I just think it’s temporary..it’s temporary. Or do something to get ur mind off it. Like scrolling on BP, watching tv, reading a book, playing a game, etc.

Im older than the H in ADHD, so Im just ADD but thats beside the point. When Im feeling overwhelmed and/or my focus is slipping I will deliberately separate myself from the task at hand for a few minutes. Ill pull out my phone and look at emails, or Ill doodle on something. I find that sometimes I can solve the puzzle by not looking at it.

I drink a very cold Coke as fast as I can. Somehow that calms me.

From a fellow person in your situation (it sucks lmao):

I generally just try to take a deep breath, and put my hands on my face. For some reason the act of smooshing my face around (idk how to describe it) calms me down.
