50 Times People Had No Idea What They Were Looking At, But The Internet Knew What It Was Right Away (New Pics)
'What Is This Thing' is an incredibly popular subreddit. It has over 1.8 million members, all helping people to identify the objects in their possession they have no knowledge of themselves. I have no doubt that one of the biggest reasons why this online community has gotten so massive is the fact that they constantly deliver.
With a few very rare exceptions, 'What Is This Thing' cracks one tough case after another. Show them a small round "shelf" in an old mailbox, and they will tell you it's for leaving change for the postal worker to add postage. Post a photo of a strange ceramic jar and they'll reply it's a stoneware bed warmer.
Continue scrolling to check out some of the mysteries they have recently uncovered, and after you're done, fire up Bored Panda's earlier articles about the subreddit here, here, and here.

Found In A Bag Together While Digging A Pool In Massachusetts. Penny For Scale
Answer: Toy plates for a dollhouse.
i read somewhere that dollhouses and miniature items were made in the olden days to show of the makes skills as some kind of advertisement. there are amazing pieces out there
Load More Replies...Like we've mentioned in an earlier article, the subreddit has a branch called 'Trace an Object' that searches for objects posted by Europol that are linked to child abuse cases. "We've had some luck in identifying some things, but there's more yet unsolved and more to come as Europol does release some new information every few months," the moderator team explained to us then.
At the time, the 'Trace an Object' subreddit had around 53k members but now the number has grown to 67k. So in a way, the more attention 'What Is This Thing' gets, the more help Interpol receives. Presuming people will find about 'Trace an Object' in the process as well.
Small Round “Shelf” In Old Mail Box. What Is This Thing?
Answer: for leaving change for postal worker to add postage. USPS delivery people are required to have stamps and you don't even need to catch them to buy some. If you have a piece of mail without postage you can put it in your mailbox with cash and the carrier will bring back change (if needed) the next day.
Wait...US mail boxes are for outgoing mail as well as inbound? How does that work? Does the mailman have a key for each box? Or do they not lock? If not what stops people stealing your post? Someone explain this to a Brit with a letterbox!
No locks. Nothing to stop people stealing it. Just the honor system. Even though I've never lived in a fancy neighborhood, I've never had anyone steal from my mailbox. For whatever reason, mailboxes are pretty safe from theft in the US. Amazon packages on the porch are another matter entirely.
Load More Replies...As for theft. the US Postal Service has it's own police, and "tampering with the mail" has very serious penalties. Not worth it.
So weird. We just have a slot in the front door - letter sided stuff goes through it and anything bigger the postman knocks. Where I grew up you couldn't even put a hanging basket outside your front door without it being nicked, so I cannot imagine a mailbox lasting five minutes!
Load More Replies...I cannot believe there are so many folks on here that don't know about flags on mailboxes. Just to confuse everyone, we have a yellow flag that goes up when the mailbox door is opened which would indicate that there was mail placed in the box since the last time you looked out at the street - how cool is that?
Ha! Nice try. Clearly a holding cell for evil fairies awaiting trial.
It’s quite cool that the US have a postman that takes their mail and delivers it. Saves a lot of time and money I expect. Still, I would t be without our beautiful red post boxes
Nobody has answered the question of what that little piece of metal is for?
OK I did not notice that the answer was underneath the question. I'm a little slow

There are other subreddits that are helping the public too. And they can work together on serious cases. For example, when user and college student shadybusiness15 took apart one of their extension cords, they noticed something wasn't quite right—there were mysterious wires and a SIM card with a serial number in it. Curious, they posted photos of it to both 'What Is This Thing' and 'The Reddit Bureau of Investigation', a place where people are passionate about solving mysteries as well.
Users quickly identified the mysterious parts as audio surveillance. The contraption connected to a phone number, which the owner could call to pick up audio in his room at college. Shadybusiness15 called the number but it was already disconnected. Shady business indeed.
My Security Camera Caught This Individual With A Large Device, Possibly Scanning For Something? The Individual Noticed The Camera And Changed Their Mind It Seems, But What Have They Got And What Are They Doing?
Answer: this person is probably a carthieve scanning for keyless car keys. . never leave them near windows and doors
I know I thought the question was going to be: "what's this creature?"
Load More Replies...It's a repeater for keyless cars keys. It amplifies and repeats the signals it receives from the key fob to the car, and from the car to the key fob, making the car think that the key is nearby, so it unlocks and starts.
But then doesn't the car shut off when the keys aren't near it anymore?
Load More Replies...I’m pretty damn sure it’s a device to suck the soul out of your body.
It took me a moment to work out what a carthieve is. One 'thief', plural 'thieves'.
If you have a keyless car, invest 25 cents in a tin can to put your keys in. Best 25 cents you have ever invested because your car won't be stolen by thieves picking up the signal .
THIS S**T ME UP!! However, I've had my car broken into 6 times in 4 years and I finally figured out they were doing this to me! Whether keyless or with keys, if you car has a digital alarm, every single person should put their keys in a signal blocker box! And keep it as far away from the car, as possible, like the other side of the house. Cars at Christmas in shopping malls are constantly targeted though not last Christmas! Anyway, these bastards will stand near your car, track the signal and your own set of keys will open your car and they help themselves. Also, the effing blocker pouches and boxes also lose juice after a while so you have to check them regularly by putting your phone in them and check in the signal is blocked. 6 times over 4 years. It was devastating.
We have RFID key fob wallets where you put your key on the chain inside and when the key is not in use you put it inside where it has a lining that blocks all radio signals

This Is About The Size Of My Hand, Made Of/With Some Kind Of Metal (I Think Copper)
Answer: This is mostly likely thousands of years old - a Pre-Columbian artifact.
You should take it to a university or museum for analysis.
DO NOT polish it or clean it.
It's not an axe. If it's Pre-Columbian it's not bronze. Why? Well do google the Bronze age and see where it was actually located. Plus the hole at the top indicates it was for adornment. The symbology is not out of Europe or the fertile crescent, so it' s likely PRE-COLUMBIAN. AKA made in South or Central America prior to the arrival of the Rapist Pedophile Christopher Columbus. I am guessing Mayan, but it could be something else.

Load More Replies...It's a blade for cutting hide from meat. Modern versions are still used and my neighbour in the Yukon has one that was her mother's and grandmothers.
Not an axe. It is a scraper/knife. Cuts meat off animal skins and can also scrape hides before tanning.
It's an ULU, meaning "woman's knife" in Inuktikut, a polar language spoken among Inuit (formerly called Eskimos). Women did almost all the work in traditional culture. An ulu was particularly useful for scraping the fat from animal hides.
Looks like an axe head. They were really lucky to find this.

Glass Items Seen At Yard Sale. They Aren't Doorknobs And Some Look Like One Solid Piece?
Answer: Knife rests
Knife rests or any utensil rest so the dirty item doesn't touch the table. We sell them at my store
The olden days were just all class... things like knife rests were a thing
In France we still use them on formal occasions, this christmas at my dads they were blue handmade ceramic dogs from a great great aunt. All differents and with broken ears or legs but they are still awesome. My nieces are in love with them.
Load More Replies...Some of them are sugar tampers - the longer ones. Back when sugar was classy & came in cubes, ladies taking tea would use them to crush sugar into tea so they didn't have to stir for hours.
These were made obsolete in the late 1800s when knife makers designed knives with weighted handles, so the blade never contacted the table cloth when at rest. Recently, cheap single thickness stainless steel knives (mostly from china) have encouraged people to use them again.
When you need to put your knife down, but you are still eating, you don't put it on the plate, because that will look as if you've finished eating, and your plate will be taken away. You can't put it on the tablecloth because it will make a stain, so you use a knife rest. I don't know what you do with your fork, though.
In formal dining you have to use only the top of the fork, so it's ok to put it on the table. Regarding the knife rest, very high class people won't use it, because they were used to "reuse" the tablecloth, and they don't want to look that "low".

What Is This Piece Of Playground Equipment For? Seems Like It Must Have A Function Other Than To Just Lay On It
Answer: Manufacturers are providing a lot more pieces that are accessible to children with limited mobility. While this may seem less interesting at first glance, imagine the benefits to children who’ve never been able to climb up to a slide or fire pole.
Can I ask what this does? So a child with limited mobility can use it as per the text, but use it to do what?
Load More Replies...My local park has a swing for children in wheel chairs. It's just a platform onto which the chair may roll and be secured. See one in use for the first time and I promise you will cry with happiness for the little one.
How? Do you put the wheelchair on it? Do they lay on it and swing? How does it work?
I don’t get it at all and none of the replies are properly explaining it. How would a plastic curve give any benefit to children who can’t climb poles? So they just sit on it and...?
Don't think of it as an adult would. Think from the eyes of a child. Kids are creative and always find fun ways to use things that serve no "purpose" to adults.
Load More Replies...Someone explain to me how this would work or be fun? How do you heave a wheelchair up on this?
She's not saying, that's what that one is for. She's saying, that's what she has in her park, near her home.

Not for use with a wheelchair(I think you read the original posting wrong-the writer didn't say this was one, but that she had seen one). My grand girls use this thing for creative play, laying on it side by side pretending to be in a space capsule!

My Boyfriend And I Were Traveling Sunday Evening (10/25) And We Flew Over Clouds That Were Glowing Orange. Photo Details Suggest That It Was Somewhere Over Kingsville, On, Canada. Any Idea What Caused This?
Answer: Grow lights inside massive greenhouses just east of Kingsville.
Light pollution is a real thing & it negatively effects wildlife. That grow house is losing tons of lumens & heat, thus negatively effecting the operation/business, the plants & the environment.
That would be a whole bunch of nope! Wake up from a really good nap and you look down to see that! You already know that you got on a plane to hell
OMG!!!!! I live there and the light from the greenhouses lights up the whole sky so we never seen any stars. They are actually trying to get the greenhouse companies to restrict the light pollution with some sort of shielding. Side note: if it's purple, chances are its from the marijuana greenhouses.
What Is The Purpose Of The “Chip” In The One Prong Of This Fork? At First, I Though It Actually Was Just A Chip, But Turns Out Its On Multiple Forks In My Drawer. Any Ideas?
Answer: they make one tine wider for cutting stuff, but the wider one wouldn’t stab as well as the others, so the gave it a clipped point.
Fish fork. With the notch you can lift out any remaining grates, with the deeper notch in the middle between the teeth you can remove the lifted grate
Yeah, cut food with a fork like the savage you are, then refine the point. All sensible.
Note how the middle "indent" is a bit longer - that typically means it's a salad fork.

Someone Was Gifted This For A New Baby With No Note On What It Is
Answer: It is a door silencer. It wraps around and covers the latch on a door so that it doesn't latch and the rubber also makes the door open and close silently. The straps go around the doorknob on each side.
Me neither. I’m almost 70 and have never seen one before. Of course, the first time I walked into a Babies R Us when my daughter was expecting 11 years ago....my first thought was “how did we raise kids without all this crap”. Expectant parents and new grandparents are suckers.
Load More Replies...If only I knew there was such a thing! If anyone comes up with a squeaky floor silencer too, they would be millionaires
For all you parents who imagine the house has to be deathly silent for your child to sleep, consider this. Children who sleep in absolutely silent houses have more trouble getting to sleep later, cannot deal with dorm life at college, have difficultly sleeping in places where there are any unusual noises like an ice machine or elevator in a hotel, or in cities where traffic and sirens go on all night. My mother was a silent sleep time for babies and I have suffered not being able to get to or stay asleep unless it's absolutely silent. I did keep tv's and or radios on after my kids bedtimes, however, and they can drop off anywhere, regardless of what's going on. Quiet is not so bad, but silence has irreparable consequences for the kid later.
Well said and true. -and saved me some typing, thanks.
Load More Replies...Setting the kid up for life-long insomnia, I see. They will never learn to sleep with noise, so the slightest noise will wake them up. Bad idea. Think about hunter-gatherers when you make decisions on what is best for the baby. Did they all leave the camp, shut off the crickets and the wind every time a baby was sleeping?

My Girlfriend Lives In A Basement Apartment And In The Closet Under A False Floor There's This Pipe In The Ground. Smells Terrible Like Sewage. Any Idea What It Is And How To Fix It?
Answer: It appears to be an old broken drain, or more likely, a cleanout with a broken cover. That needs to be capped ASAP. Sewer gasses are a noxious health hazard. Note, tape and plastic are not an acceptable cap.
Caps for such are available at all home improvement stores I know of. Then again, I knew what it was, and had to replace caps on mine. Always easy if you know already! ;-D
I do not 100% agree with the OP. Anything, even wadded rags or newspaper, will do in a pinch as a temporary fix. Professional plumbers use these methods when at work.

Answer: fire retardant reacting with the environment. This white powder is not harmful nor is it mold. We have had a few cases and have found it is the fire retardant interacting with the environment. In most instances all that is needed to correct this is a damp cloth, but in the case the white spots do come back we have a tech come out and replace the back cabinet.

Near Agate, Utah. My Dad And I Came Across This On Google Maps Today But No Search On Google Gave Me An Answer
Answer: These have to be evaporation ponds near some sort of mineral mine.
You can find these on google maps north of Cisco Utah.... Danish Flats Environmental Services operates Utah's largest pond farm, pictured here near Cisco, for handing produced water from oil and gas wells. After years of claiming the ponds' emissions were "de minimis," the company belatedly acknowledged this complex of five-acre ponds and tanks is a major source of hazardous air pollutants and volatile organic compounds.
What an interesting find. My husband loves to find things on Google Earth. Once he located all of the abandoned missile sites (silos) in the various states. It's a depressing thought, however, to learn that Google doesn't know everything! Once a boy asked me how to get pine resin off his suede jacket. I said, "Have you Googled it?" as I consider this as the first step. Well, he hadn't thought of that. However, a few minutes latera, he had cleaned the resin from his jacket.
You and your dad seem like you are running out of ways to keep entertained in quarantine.... OR you're just like me and love exploring Google maps!

These Weird Crystals Growing On My Highlighter?
Answer: it went through varying changes in temperature in the past years and destabilized causing oil to separate and crystallize. Same thing happens in crayons.
Abstract White crystals have been found to grow on the surface of a number of wax artifacts. Analysis was carried out on samples of wax and crystals taken from a Victorian wax fruit arrangement displaying crystalline growth. The possible relationship between crystallization, cracking and changes in temperature is explored. https://www.jstor.org/stable/1506393?seq=1

Solid Metal “Kiss” That Was In Our Bag Of Candy Cane Kisses. Is It Part Of The Machinery?
Answer: Definitely not a part of the machine. Since it is the same size and shape, I would say it's a QA "guage" to help operators verify shape and portion size at a glance.
Of course it was. Why would anyone put that in the bag on purpose?
Load More Replies...Or possibly a test for the metal detectors on the production line - which clearly don't work if they made it to the consumer!

Found In A Cemetary While Geocaching. The Doll Was Wrapped In The Paper Which Was Wrapped In The Cloth Cross And Bound With Twine. Overall Very Creepy
Answer: it's a voodoo doll
How disrespectful, not only to geochache in a cemetery but you find an item wrapped and bound at a grave and decide to open it and rumage though it for your own curiosity? Some people.
the paper is stating a curse... It sais 'maldito Alonso' (cursed Alonso in Spanish)... 'hizo de la justicia' (justice was made or something like that) in black says 'devastado' (devastated)... I also can read 'perro cabron' _cursed mother f****er_. Te last readable word says 'tendras" (you will have).... In summary a very scary cursed voodoo doll made by somebody that was very very mad and angry with a lot of bad intentions.
The writing is spanish. The first word is "Maldito" followed by what seems to me a man's name (Alonso or Alfonso). Means "Coursed Alfonso/Alonso". I can also see some words Like "Madre"(mother), "Felicidad" (happiness), and more. It would be VERY interesting to read the rest
Yeah, and they really should not have messed with it. Let alone unwrapped it. I hope they put it back as they found it
It's tough to read most of the paper, but it's definitely a curse in Spanish.

Under the mattress? ? Why would you stick it únder the mattress? Top 3 places under/between your feet, between your legs or on your belly. Or when you have a sore back on your back. You don't stick a modern (rubber) hot water bottle under the mattress do you?? Just wondering.

Answer: Look up funnel ball. Popular in the 90s as a basketball game. Someone tosses into the top hole and the ball comes out one of the other holes. I never played with any real rules, just schoolyard fun. Prob could do it like 2 on 2 basketball where you aim to get more balls in the top hole than the other team, or something.
I love those things! You'd throw the ball into the top hole and have four people around it, one at each hole. If the ball comes out of your hole you try to catch it and if you do, you throw it in next. Some have spaced dots to stand on that you move to the one in front of you if you catch it, or the one behind you if you don't.
We have them at lots of schools where I live... I would like to try this!
Load More Replies...We have a bunch of these in Sweden! I loved climbing through the holes and sitting up there pretending to be a pirate with a spyglass. Was really sad when my butt got too big to squeeze through but then I learned to climb the sides ;) Didn't even know it was meant to be a ball game!
I have never seen that in Sweden. Guess it depends on where you live.
Load More Replies...I have one in my school playground, it also has points above the holes to get more than the other team, Older boys like getting things stuck in them, cardboard boxes, balls that are too big, all sorts of things and then climbing in and getting them out.
I am now sooo old that a favorite childhood game has become a modern mystery. Funny how quickly people forget...
A nearby playground has one of these, but not as bulky. Just an unusual basketball hoop.

Found Underground In Edmonton, Alberta. Made Of Metal Bits Encased In An Acrylic Like Substance. Smooth Flat Bottom.
Answer: that's orgonite, a pseudoscience energy thing. The basic structure is alternating layers of organic and inorganic materials within polyester resin. The inorganic is the metal and some crystals, but metal is very important as it is the metal which most strongly activates the cleansing matrix by both attracting and repelling energy. The organic materials simply attract the energy, so without the metals, you have an ineffective and inert piece of resin art.
Even with the metal, you still have ineffective and inert piece of resin art.
As did the inventor of all this nonsense, Wilhelm Reich. A lot of the clients didn't believe it, but were men who liked that their wives would be silent in an 'orgone accumulator room' for hours.
Load More Replies...Wilhelm Reich said a lot of very sensible things about body posture, stress, sexual inhibition and its effect on society. It's a great shame that W Reich went off the at deep end with the Orgone Accumulator, Cloud buster, pyramids, etc. The orgone theories have as much credibility as crystal healing and reiki. His ideas were very popular in the 60's. The only positives of orgone theory is that Hawkwind managed to write some great psychedelia off the back of it.
... and WITH the organic material you have an ineffective inert piece of resin art
The song 'Cloud bursting' by Kate Bush is about the inventor of Orgone energy

What Is This Brown Bumpy Thing On My Pringle??
Answer: The previous Pringle that didn't completely make it out of the rolling mold. Pringles aren't sliced potatoes, they are mashed potatoes pressed flat and cut like cookies. That's a stuck previous Pringle.
Pringles were developed so that potatoes that were below human food grade quality could be processed and sold to humans. Prior to that they would have been used to feed pigs and other barnyard beasts.
Actually that is not true. They had an issue back then about potatoes that were weird shaped that couldnt be sliced for chips, so they repurposed them as potato flake chips to cut down on waste. Don't make things up

The Odhner Arithmometer was a very successful pinwheel calculator invented in Russia in 1873 by W. T. Odhner, a Swedish immigrant. Even though the machine was very popular, the production only lasted thirty years until the factory was nationalised and closed down during the Russian revolution of 1917. ~ Wiki
I Found These In My Grandmothers House (Germany), They Are Made Of Thin Glass. Unfortunately There Is No Box Cover Explaining What They Are
Answer: They are for flower decoration. One singular flower goes in the tube. There is probably a stand for them somewhere around, but some people like to stick them in foam together with other decorations, or in pieces of driftwood with holes drilled into them, or even into other flowerpots.
I saw very similar ones in the Bodenmais Glasmanufaktur.
There is no stand. The tiny white feet are the stands that lift the opening a bit higher than the back. My gosh, now I'm feeling old. I used to know these from my childhood. My grandma had them.

Found This Building While I Was Hiking In West Kerry, Ireland.
Answer: It's a water tower, formerly used to refill steam engine tanks or tenders. There used to be a railway there from 1891 to 1953.
I live in Ireland. Anagap is the name of the old Station master's cottage in Annascaul, Co. Kerry. Go mall is the Irish for go slow. Road signs in Ireland are in both English and Irish. Also you find lots of these dotted around the country. There's one in Drumshanbo Co.Leitrim where I used to live. Ireland used to have a lot more working railway lines than it does now. Once the car became more popular the vast majority of them were closed down especially in more rural areas. Today, while the circa 30 mile long rail line has long been ripped up (it ended its last decades carrying only livestock), that link to bygone times is recalled still on the roadway opposite this quite charming and old-style cottage, in the presence of a large water tank on a stone support with the Anagap address proudly written on it in beautiful old Celtic script.

Paul Mitchell makes hair products. That is a parting tool for making straight or slanted parts in your hair. In the late 80s-early 90s, having zig zag parts was a thing. nothing to do with the kitchen.
No. It's a promotional product for Paul Mitchell, but it isn't for hair. It is indeed an orange peeler. The tooth in front is used to vet lines in the orange.

Found In The Attic Of An Old Country House In Czech Ia. Top Part Is An Open Container That Rolls On The Round Sticks Under It. Bottom Is Likely Just A Stand With Storage (Has Little Doors From The Other Side)
Answer: a mangle, possibly mangel. Used to press linens, sheets, tablecloths.
This must be an industrial size mangle. I have seen smaller ones without the storage part. Where I lived in 1985/6, my neighbour had one.
I googled mangle irons (both modern and antique) and they look nothing like this. No idea what this is, but it's not a mangle.

Answer: The big thing is a RIB cage/sternum scissors. The three in the top lefthand corner are parts to a vaginal speculum. Three things to the right of these are clips for holding sets of instruments, eg.scissors, and to the right again a trephine. The one below the trephine looks like a molt gag retractor.
Well the speculum hasn’t changed much except some are now plastic. At least the plastic isn’t as cold as the metal lol.
I will never forget the gyno I went to who warmed their metal speculums!

A vaginal speculum is used for Pap smears and other internal vaginal examinations. It helps open up the vagina whilst being able to flash a light and have a looksies. Women are advised to get a Pap smear every 2-5 years (depending on countries recommendations) once you either reach or certain age or once you start becoming sexually active. Pap smears are done to check for abnormalities like Cervical cancer.

Strange Object From Tiffany's Mysteriously Given To My Wife By Her Grandmother While Refusing To Say What It Was. Probably Bought In The 1930s Or 1940s. About 10cm/4" Long. All She'd Say Was "She Used It As A Young Woman But Didn't Have Much Use For It Nowadays". Any Ideas?
Answer: Tree Branch Muddler
A 'muddler' is a bar tool used for crushing fruit and/or herbs for cocktails. Like the pestle half of a mortar and pestle. 'Tree branch' just describes the handle design.
The way the grandmother worded it made me think of a very different use...
I have a feeling that's not what the grandmother used it for--otherwise, why wouldn't she say?
I am more curious why wouldn't grandma tell what it is ,like it's something shameful?
It's for muddling (crushing) cocktails. Like mint in a mojito.

Found This Tool In My Grandma's Basement
Answer: A clarinet stand, or some similar musical instrument.
It's not an instrument stand, it's something to do with milking cows http://placedelours.superforum.fr/t28673-ecarteur-de-tetine-de-trayeuse-pour-mise-en-place-sur-les-trayons
As I understand it, the old milking machines had these rubber tubes that went over the teet, and when removed they would turn inside out. This was used to turn them back around.
Load More Replies...A clarinet stand does not look like that. I had one and it was a tube, with foldable legs to make a tripod and it was plastic.
For all the people thinking it's not a stand: Yes it is a stand. You have to flip it around. A clarinet is hollow on the bottom bell part (sorry I'm not a clarinet expert so my vocabulary is limited), and that's where you put it on the rounded part of the stand.
But how do you stand it up when it doesn't look like the brass bits fold out? I had a clarinet and a stand and it had foldable legs.

Look around, look up, look down... AND look forwards and there is the banana
Load More Replies...May also be a Citroen. Andre Citroen's Father still has the bananas - he was a belgian fruit vendor in France, and got his last name from his profession. Weird enough, in german, "Mit Zitronen handeln" (To deal with lemons) is said to indicate something about the deal is wrong to the disadvantage of the lemon-dealing person, while a "Zitrone", a lemon, is a not that common but still used term for "bad car". Which ... lines up once you lift a Citroen's bonnet.

Answer: It looks a lot like the optical element of a ring laser gyroscope.
lemme ask my grandpa. He could probably give me a two hour presentation about what this is.
Gyroscopes measure and maintain orientation for rotating objects. This prevents misalignment during rotation. Ring laser gyroscopes are more accurate than mechanical gyroscopes.

Answer: Left is a concentric vent, it's used for high efficiency furnaces instead of the standard "two pipe" intake and exhaust setup. Right seems to be another vent, whether it's still used or not is a guess, it may have been replaced by the one on the left. The one on the right might also be a dryer vent, hard to tell from this angle.
Natural gas NATURALLY has no smell, but in America it's law to add a smell "like rotton eggs" to it so leaks can be detected.

My Neighbor (Who Has Recently Installed An Amazon Doorbell Camera, Which Is Weird For The Netherlands) Has Just Put This On His Roof. It Seems To Be Aimed Directly At My Female Housemate’s Bedroom Window And She Is Concerned It’s Another Camera
Answer: Integrated GNSS System
GNSS is basically a satellite navigation or satnav system is a system that uses satellites to provide autonomous geo-spatial positioning. The signals also allow the electronic receiver to calculate the current local time to high precision, which allows time synchronization. So maybe its used to synchronize some other "smart" equipment?
Load More Replies...When you're installing cameras in the Netherlands you have to put up a sign informing people that you did so. Intentionally and sneakily filming people is illegal. Under Dutch law the person who thinks they're are being watched can demand that this device is removed unless the owner can prove that it isn't a camera or that the camera can't film them on their private property. You can take the owner to court to force him to remove the camera.
