My nephew was about 11 at the time and he LOVED everything Lord of the Rings and since I am the coolest Aunt that ever lived (just ask him) I made it a point to take him to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in the newest theater in the City (in his mind, it was fancy and cool and he got his own popcorn and didn't have to share with his brothers).
The movie starts, he is mesmerized, doesn't move, doesn't say a word, leans forward in his seat, intensely watching this movie...about 20 minutes in, he nudges me and says "what is that sound?" I listen closely and can hear gagging and retching and it gets louder. He nudges me again and says, "what is she doing?" and points to the couple beside him. RIGHT BESIDE HIM IN THE NEXT SEAT. A woman is going down on her boyfriend. NEXT to an 11 year old. The theater was packed so we couldn't change seats, my nephew is about to cry because he just realized what was going on. So I leaned over my nephew and said to the guy, "really? You are right next to a child." The guy just laughed and the woman looked up and smiled.
I lost it. I grabbed my nephew and pulled him into the aisle and screamed "YOU PERVERT THERE ARE CHILDREN IN THIS THEATER. PUT YOUR PANTS BACK ON." That sent people running out of the theater to get a manager and two men confronted the guy and when they stood him up, his pants were undone, his penis was exposed, the girl's makeup was a mess. The movie was stopped. The police were called. My nephew cried. The couple was taken out by the police. The theater had to give everyone vouchers because they couldn't restart the film in the time allowed. My nephew wouldn't go back to the theater for about a year and a half.
Saw Cats. That was pretty bad
I ran into the kid that keeps bullying me at school and every time my parents looked away he would THROW HANDFULS OF POPCORN AT ME. Finally my parents caught him and he and his parents were told to control their child or leave. Complete silence and I got to enjoy Mulan in peace.
Walk up the aisle, grab his popcorn, eat a mouthful of it, stick the bucket on his head, go back to your seat and sit back down in silence.
Alright, so I was watching the My Little Pony movie with my little sister and a few of her friends. We watched the whole movie with no problems. Until we had to get up and leave. My sister and her friends wanted to dance to the music in the credits and I needed the use the bathroom. My mom told me to meet her in front of the theater. But when I got up, I slipped. In a puddle of pee! And I starfish style fell too. It was in my hair on my clothes and in my mouth. So yeah that was nice.
When I was about 5, I went to see Frozen for the bajillionth time. As we walked in, the theater was packed. No biggie, it was Frozen after all. Halfway through the movie, right during Let it Go, I heard a loud moan. I thought somebody was like singing it horribly because everybody loved Let it Go and Frozen to my 5 year old mind. But it was a woman and her husband getting it on down on the floor, right next to the wheelchair section. I whispered to my parents, asking them what the heck those people were doing naked. My mom stormed off to give them a piece of her mind while my dad went to talk to the usher. Just imagine. Two people having sex in a theater full of little kids. It still makes me gag, and I refuse to sit anywhere near the isle or the wheelchair section, or really anywhere with a flat area, to this day in a movie theater.
Only ones in the theater. A group comes in, sit in the seats directly behind us, then talks and eats loudly non-stop.
It was my first cinema experience. It wasn't exactly bad, now that I look at it, but at the time it was too much for me. I was 5, it was 1998, and we saw Armageddon. Yes, the same Armageddon with Liv Tyler, Bruce Willis, and badass Aerosmith soundtrack. I was clueless. First scene: meteor shower in New York (as far as I can remember), meteors are falling and wreaking havoc, people are dying. The cinema sound systems really overwhelmed me, I was terrified at what I saw, and I started crying. So my parents carried me out of the theatre. Yes, I was that crying kid in a movie theatre that everyone gets annoyed with, lol.
Your parents shouldn't have taken you to that movie if you were only five...
Was watching Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and some one decided to bring a newborn into the theatre, as expected the baby cried, but the mother did nothing to stop the baby from crying or go out side of the viewing room to calm the baby. Also before the movie someone kicked my foot as I was sipping on my slurpie and some of it spilled onto my lap. So I had to sit through the movie sticky, annoyed, and to top it off the movie was terrible.
I agree. Pretty bad movie in a Star Wars sense. I liked the effects and the CGI was great lol!! :)
When I was about 7 years old, my mother took me and my older brother to see Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." I had already seen the movie on a field trip at summer camp. Now, back then, when movie trailers were shown in theaters, they would show specific ones that were associated with the film company of the movie. I already knew something was wrong when a trailer for "Beavis and Butt-Head Do America" came on instead of "Jack." Then, instead of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" "Tales from the Crypt Presents Bordello of Blood" came on instead. "Mommy, they put on the wrong movie!" I whispered. Mom assured me it was just a preview. It wasn't . I was crying and getting grossed out because a man was holding out a heart. Thankfully, at this point, we were ushered out of the theater room and taken to the Bordello of Blood's room instead. Apparently, they would show "Bordello of Blood" in the "Hunchback" room late at night and somebody forgot to take the film out that morning. After that experience, I became rather wary of whether the right movie would be shown whenever I went to that theater with my parents.
As an adult though, this story is hilarious to me!
1963, I was ten, Jason And The Argonauts at the Essoldo, Stretford, UK got to the part where that big statue comes alive and chases Hercules and his friend and I dragged my little sister up the aisle saying in a LOUD voice how she was frightened and couldn't take it and I had to take her home. She was LOUDLY complaining because she was enjoying the film. I didn't see the whole film till about forty years later but that bit still freaks me out. The whole memory is so embarrassing! I've always been a wimp...
OMG, I LOVE Jason And The Argonauts! Ray Harryhausen REALLY nails this one!
This will totally date me... My friends and I had the whole theater to ourselves for "The Secret of My Success." We were in high school, giggly, crushing on Michael J Fox. Suddenly our row of seats started shaking. Hard. There was no one else there! So, being goofy high school girls, we convinced ourselves the theater was haunted. We thrououghly freaked ourselves out. Made a ton of noise. Probably pissed the theater crew off. Turns out it was an earthquake. In INDIANA! (Not an earthquake hot spot for those who don't know). Not a terrible experience. Just the most interesting one for me!
Saw Annabelle II at the movie theatre. There was a person that throw his rucksack in my head for the fear during a jumpscare scene
Was at an IMAX film, some guy a few rows in front started having a heart attack. Film stopped, lights came on, the cliche "is anybody a doctor" was called out. Got our money back, so obviously it was worse for the guy than for me.
we don't go to the theater much, but when we go to our local one, 99% of the time we are put in the room that is FREEZING COLD! we bring heavy coats and we're still cold! I never enjoy the movie quite as much as I should I'm so busy shivering. and yes, I know a lot of the things on this list are a whole lot worse than this, no need to tell me.
When I lived in Florida, we’d all have specific jackets just for the movie theaters because they were always freezing.
Boy... where to start?!
1) Was, I guess, a MCU-movie, so, loud, fast and full of action set pieces. The movie didn't even started yet as we've heard a crying young child... or shall I say toddler... maybe 2 or 3 y.o. Fortunately (more for the kid then us) they've left the theater early when movie just started.
2) Guy next to me texting all the time. Me patiently waiting to say anything until start of the movie... he, of course, did not care at all and continued hitting his brain drenching device. As I've asked him firm but polite to stop he looked pissed but quit his habit for the next 2 hours
3) Couple behind us talking over the whole movie... she explains what just had happened on screen. Every effin scene! Turned around to ask to be silent (as she was having a high pitched, loud voice) for the rest of the movie... guess what who didn't care about it for a second. Tried it, getting annoyed a bit more each time, several times but she kept going. 20 minutes later she got booed out by the rest of attendees!
Bonus: not to mention the people who get calls, answering them and don't giving a shit about the rest of us who want to enjoy the movie, not their private business.
Watching frozen 2 with my niece and nephew and two people that are clearly older like (40 to 50) were having loud you know what while Indina sang about the unknown. And here I thought that this was a kids movie!
My worst experience was that one time I paid an absurd amount of money to sit through a half-hour of advertising before the movie started. No, wait -- that happened *all* the times.
1 - Was watching Aquaman with my sister and there was a couple behind us. The girl was clearly unaware of superhero films. During the fight scenes she asked him very loudly where Ironman was. And when it was the intermission, she asked him angrily when Spiderman was making an appearance. Turns out she was into Tom Holland and her boyfriend told her he was in Aquaman to get her to come along. They fought for a while.
2 - Talking about Tom Holland, I was watching "In the heart of the sea" and right next to me was a young girl (maybe 7 years?) along with her parents. In my city, the movie was rated A, so I was surprised to see someone her age there. Then as the movie progressed, we realised she couldn't speak/understand English and the movie was in english so she kept asking her dad (in Hindi) what was happening and the dad in loud whispers translated it to her. There were so many parts a young girl her age wouldn't understand so he made stuff up. I could not enjoy the movie and even Chris Hemsworth couldn't make me pay attention to what was happening and till date I think the movie was too long and too slow because it felt like time stopped at that moment.
3 - I was with my best friend watching a random movie and a rat crawled into her blouse. It was terrifying for her and she stripped right there. Thankfully it was dark and I had a spare jacket to give her. We couldn't finish the movie because she was hysterical and creeped out so we left immediately.
We wanted to have a new experience during the Christmas break, and so we headed off to a regional town in Victoria. We spent some good days around the city. Not being white, we got stared at some times, but we carried on, doing our thing. One day , it was the 26th of December , we decided to watch a movie in the theatre. It was a Tintin & Captain Haddock, animated movie. Our kids were 4 years and 11 years at that time. The movie went well, and the kids were enjoying the movie, delighted to see their favourite characters. They would laugh out at times, when something funny happened. This happened a few times, but they were well mannered and not being naughty.
A couple , who were sitting in the next line, were quite annoyed at the kids laughing at the funny scenes. This was supposedly a kids movie, and it was surely expected that kids were allowed to be kids, and laugh and have fun.
Gradually, the man who was quite big and burly , and covered with tattoos, started giving us dirty looks, accompanied by his girlfriend. Each time the kids giggled they would get angry, and send hateful looks in our direction. The kids being young, didnt notice, and it was dark too. I noticed it, and was quite intimidated as the man was very big and rough looking.
When the movie ended, the kids stepped out happily , and we headed out. Outside the theatre hall, the guy stood there, ready to pick a fight-argument. I could see the anger and dislike towards us. His chubby , and angry girlfriend stood next to us, ready to do/ say whatever. My husband had no idea what was happening because he had'nt been noticing the couple's activities. As the guy came towards us, angrily, trying to start an argument, or a lecture on behaviour, I hurriedly took the kids out. My husband followed me , wondering why I was rushing out. This kind of deflated the situation. Later on when i related the incident to him, he said that he wished that I had let him speak to the couple.
I chose to leave, because I did not want the kids to see us being confronted for no reason, for laughing , and above all for being subjected to racism.
However due to that unfortunate event, I am now always aware in every situation.
I know someone else on this list said Cats and honestly I have to agree. My friend group decided that we’d see it as a joke and Jesus Christ I swear we left within the first five minutes. We wanted to gouge out our eyes.
I used to work in a theater so all of the above comments aren't shocking to me. However I'd say the worst things I saw go on were parents who took their children to scary movies that were inappropriate for young children. I'll never forget the guy who took his toddler to see an 11pm showing of Red Dragon, I said it was rated R he said the child would sleep through it. At the end of the movie that child was very awake and his eyes were so wide. Another time a woman came with two young children about 4 years old, she got tickets to some rated R movie about an evil tooth fairy (I forget the name of the movie). I of course told her the rating and she said she didn't care. At the end of the movie she came out and yelled at me because she thought the movie was stupid; ok I didn't make the film. Both her children were in tears terrified because of what they saw in the movie. Finally one woman came in with two children as I was selling her the tickets to her at the box office one of the children projectile vomited all over the floor. She said these were her grandchildren who were visiting, she said they were both sick but that she had promised them a trip to the theater and it was their last day in town.
I was watching "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" with my mum and sister. To make the movie viewable to most audiences, my city's censor board had cut off scenes. So all the throat slashing was cut off and it was annoying as hell. They replaced those scenes with random shots from the same scene. So the lip syncing was off at most places. They didn't even show any blood.
And sitting a little away from us was a group of young teens who got annoyed every time a song began. They would tut and make sounds and ask things like "why are there so many songs" or "another song?" and my sister at one time was so frustrated that she yelled back saying "It's called a musical for a reason."
It was in the middle of the movie, people starting yelling at some guy for sneezing to loud and the person above me turned around too fast and spilled a bunch of pop on my head. I finished the movie and they guy gave me money to get something because he felt bad.
Best worst day ever.
Not really a bad experience but it's reeeeeally annoying when my grandma takes me to movies. She makes a big fuss about everything. For example, she will only get 1 refillable popcorn for four (4) people and then brings it into the theater and puts it into plastic bags for us. Same thing with drinks. 1 large drink and she bring 4 cups along in her purse. It's honestly amazing how much stuff she can fit in her purse. I get the point of what she's doing but it's just so annoying and she makes such a big deal outta it. I still love her though. :)
Your grandmother takes you to the movies. Enjoy it. It's extremely expensive. Grandmas can be fussy. But one day, when she's gone, you'll miss her fussing. Say thanks. Tell her you love her. Enjoy the movie.
First time at the cinema with my boyfriend - he talked more to the stranger next to him than to me - before, during AND after the movie.
Sh*tty experience for me... If I hadn't been in a foreign country i would've gotten up and left before the movie even started!
I was on a first date with a guy I really liked. Towards the last quarter of the movie, I had to pee very badly. So I get up and start trotting towards the exit, but when I'm halfway across the theatre, LITERALLY FRONT ROW CENTRE, the heel of one of my shoes broke.
I went sprawling face first onto the floor. In front of the ENTIRE (pretty packed) movie theatre. There was no second date.
Well you don’t need to be in a relationship with a jackass who won’t go on a date with you because you fell.
As a teen, I went on a double date with this guy who kept asking me out. My sister's bf insisted that he's really a nice guy when you get to know him. We saw "Shampoo" the Warren Beatty film. It was really raunchy and inappropriate for teens. Adults were walking out indignantly with their young children (you guessed it, there were no warnings then or rating system). I was mortified because he kept laughing at the worst times, and slapping his knees and all that. My sis and I wanted to leave, so we ended up leaving early. Needless to say, I never went out with this guy again.
For some reason I keep wanting to be outside on a winter day that it's snowing just to have the pleasure of sitting by our heater reading
Okay so... one time while seeing zootopia everyone was ordering a bunch of candy before because some guy had that idea. well right in the middle of this movie i hear a really gross noise. HE'S THROWING UP!!! And he didn't even try to get to the bathroom. Pretty soon, almost EVERYONE that ordered as much as him is retching. It smelled horrible. I was gagging by the point that the movie was over and had to rush to the bathroom to puke when we were leaving.
I was 11 years old. Frozen 2 had just come out and my mom and I were eager to see it in the theaters. My dad stayed behind because he hates movie theaters, and, well, he fared better off because of his decision.
The theater was fairly empty save for a few families in front and a mother and her child behind us, and a lady right next to me.
When Elsa started singing 'Into The Unknown', the lady next to me LEGIT pulled a huge plastic bin of burritos and nachos out of her tote bag and began loudly crunching and munching. Half an hour later, she stopped eating, got up without cleaning her seat, and left. That's all. She simply wanted to displease us.
AND THEN, when Elsa was riding Nokk to Atohollan, the girl behind us got up, leaned on the railing right above our heads, and opened a bag of sour patch kids. Not too bad, right?
Wrong. She started tossing the candy into our HAIR, while loudly crinkling the bag. Couldn't get worse, right?
WRONG. She then proceeded to put a 'kid in her mouth, chew on it a bit, and then SPIT IT OUT into MY HAIR!!!
My mom was furious and asked the girl's mom to tell her to stop, even after we had already asked the girl herself, but the mom just gave us the stink eye and settled down into her seat.
So yeah, not pleasant at all.
Went to see "John Carter"; fell asleep and saw nothing of the movie. I heard it sucks
Once I went to a movie with my sister and my friend. We were seated next to a woman and her ex-husband. She spent almost the entire movie complaining to him about how he never posted anything on Facebook about her anymore, and that he always tagged his new girlfriend in his posts. The poor guy stayed pretty quiet the entire time while she cried and whined. I'm not surprised he divorced her.
Ok, so, this is my first actual posting on BP, apologies if it's weirdish.
Anyways, what, eight years ago now? Four years old, going to see the theatre at christmas like we always did. It was 'Cinderella.' really looking forward to it, had some good laughs, very typical melodrama experience. I'd enjoyed it all, but then it got to this scene, where, as a kid, of course it scared me to death. A giant spider- like, literally, HUGE, made from some kind of metal- came out over the audience. I was four or five, so at the time that was a really stressful experience. It was so realistic though- and at that age to have a ginormous creature with fangs, eight eyes, jet-black colouring looming over you? I've been arachnophobic ever since. My parents say they had to bring me out of the theatre I was screaming so bad.
Anyways, eight years later and I'm finally beginning to work on my fear of spiders. But hey, that was TRAUMATIZING. I'd be fine with it now I'm twelve, but as a four-year-old? No way.
The neighborhood theater had kids' hours on Saturday afternoons. One day an adult male pervert sat next to my friend and I and exposed himself. When we realized what he was doing, we jumped up and ran to the candy counter to tell someone, but by the time the manager and ushers went to where we sat, he had disappeared.
Years back sitting in the theater and saw a flicker of light off to my right in the row behind me. Guy had tossed his cigarette butt and it rapidly took off in the theater floor litter. Everyone got out OK but it was exciting for a bit.
Seems weird now but people used to smoke everywhere.
I was in a movie theater once with my family and little nephew and we were watching monsters ink. Around 20 minutes into the movie, we started hearing some strange noises that were reminiscent of moans. We tried to ignore it but they became louder and I got up to see what was happening when someone yelled "OH GOD YES". Needless to say when I got down there I discovered a man and a women, engaging in sexual intercourse in the middle of a childrens movie. Mike and Sully did not approve haha and we never visited the theater again...
I was watching Zootopia in my school's gym, as a little fundraiser, and you know when they are in the building that had the insane animals locked up, and they were walking through it and then the tiger jumped scared everyone. Well, when that happened I literally jumped up and screamed as loud as a can. Everyone was looking at me like I was going mental. Short story but yeah :)
I was 15 and dating a guy whose family collected vintage cars and drove them in parades etc. He picked me up in a Model T pickup truck. It was cool and exciting. He took me to the drive-in where we watched Deliverance. Midway through the movie, my date absolutely freaked out, went hysterical, thrashed around and finally jumped out of the vehicle, leaving me totally confused and clueless. I'm like "WHAT??" and he finally gasped out "SPIDER!" Yeah, first date was last date...
Was on vacation to visit my cousin and his children in Texas. (I live in WI btw). So we go to the movie theater, and get in our seats. As the movie starts, these kids behind us start commenting on everything in the movie. And when I say everything, I mean everything! Random things about the character's height and other stuff like that. Eventually, around halfway through the movie they finally stop talking. I guess their mouths got tired by then. But BY GOD, that was annoying.
Took my little cousin to go see Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker.
Ended up watching the first 15 minutes of a horror movie. 8 people were brutally murdered in the first 10 minutes.
They gave us the wrong frigging tickets. but when we told them about it, the guy at the concession stands gave my little cousin a jumbo popcorn and large sprite for free. I took him to an ice cream place afterward and made him promise not to tell his parents about that. (He isn't supposed to have Ice cream before dinner)
All in all it wasn't a bad day. The kid just couldn't sleep for a couple days.
'just couldn't sleep for a couple days.' No, not a bad day at all.
I went to watch the premiere of the James Bond movie Goldeneye. It was a new cinema with very good sound and comfortable chairs. During the opening scene, a guy's mobile phone rang in the row of seats next to me and my friend. He answered and started talking, or rather shouting, to drown out the sound from the movie. Everyone in the theatre could hear him. People started to hush him and then to shout at him. After a while he rose and slowly made his way out from the seats and then he stood on the side and continued talking/shouting. He seemed totally unaware that he was disturbing everyone. Finally he slowly walked out of the theatre, still talking.
I still can't think of that movie without seeing that guy standing there, not giving a shit about ruining the film for everybody else.
Nowadays there is a message on the screen before every movie: please turn off your mobile phone. I know why...
Once when at a movie theatre, there were technical difficulties with the movie, so we waited a long time watching the same commercials over and over again. To add on to that, the guy running the commercials was broadcasting terrible music on the speakers. NOT COOL!!! lol
Ok so it was my first time in a movie theatre (not counting those crappy ones that schools say are movies) and I was with my friends. It was a new film and we were all really pumped to see it.
Well... Turns out it was a 3D movie and we had to wear those glasses. Which is fine, except for one flaw... I wore glasses myself and those 3D ones did not fit so I had to sit in a movie theatre with one hand holding my glasses up to see the actual screen. Then someone bumped into me while I was holding a slushie (I think) and it spilled. Aaaaand then there was a thunderstorm so the power went out for half an hour.
Omg I have glasses too and whenever I go on a ride that has 3D glasses(Escape from Gringotts, Muppet vision 3D, etc) if it’s a fast moving one I have to hold on to the 3D glasses so they don’t fall off and I have to fit them over my regular glasses.
Ok, so this is my dad's experience. So long story short, he went to watch the R-rated movie Sausage Party and there were a lot of kids there. He said it was especially bad when the, mature, scene at the end of the movie. Seriously people, when you have kids, check the movie rating!
The carpet was so sticky that I lost my sandals. They just stuck there while I took a step without them. I was so disgusted I never returned there after that day.
This one time, I was going to get popcorn, and the lady wouldn’t serve me my popcorn cause I’m a boy, and I was like ,“wHaT tHe hEcK wOmAn”, but in my head, so no one heard me.
My alcoholic exhusband brought a six pack to the theatre. He insisted on sitting all the way in the back. Unfortunately, half way through the movie, he accidentally kicked his bottles. The bottles noisily rolled all the way down to the front of the theatre. I don't remember the movie, but I did divorce the man that year.
Went to watch a movie in my mother's hometown with my family. The theatre was really old and was totally falling apart. There were no more then a hundred people in there. The movie was a highly anticipated one so we decided to just watch it.
The Judge of district court was with his family watching the movie a few rows behind us. The judge and I had aisle seats with aisle on our left. About half an hour into the movie he started screaming "SNAKE! SNAKE!".
I looked behind me to the left, and right there it was. A snake about the size of my arm, crawling away swiftly from where the judge was seated. The judge kept screaming for some time holding his left hand in the right one and then fainted. Everyone got scared and started to make a run for the exit. We did the same.
The next day our local newspaper published the story on the front page. Apparently the snake was crawling below the judge's seat when he dangled his hand down the and the snake bit him. The snake was not poisonous so it did no harm to the judge, he just fainted from the shock.
This was the talk of the town for quite some time. The theater was shut down.
Oof my worst experience would have to be when i was 7 i went to see zootropilis with a full box of popcorn and at a scary bit i jumped, spilled my popcorn and the power went out. Tjat happened 2 times! :) have a good say
*Zootopia *that *day Special mention: -commenting in your own post Sigh....I've read too many of these damn things
Seeing "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace." As a Star Wars nut I was SOOOOOO looking forward to this movie! Was I ever in for a disappointment. Do not get me started on that accursed Jar Jar Binks! I hated the movie so much, that night I had a dream about George Lucas being chased by various characters of the Star Wars universe - as well as characters from other science fiction movies and TV series.
The worst was when I went to see "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist." It was the worst movie I have seen in a theater. The only things that kept me there was watching the other people who were enjoying it and the fact I'd used a gift card and only had to pay .25 to see it.
Another fun moment was watching the one of the Star Wars prequels on a holiday and some kid in the audience going "eww" when Padme and Anakin kissed. I think the rest of the audience agreed with them.
I went to see Fantastic Beasts the crimes of grindelwald with my mom on black Friday. It was so unbelievalbly hot. They gave everyone in the theater a refund.
I live in a country where putting your foot up on your leg it’s considered as bad as flipping someone off, but my stupid American ass was trying to eat food while watching a movie and I put my foot up so the bottom was face it the women next to me, and I swear she looked like she was having a stroke. When I realized I straight up just kept my foot up since the lady was using her phone on full volume earlier and kept her full brightness.
I find it very disturbing that there are so many sick and criminal people who think it is a good idea to have sex in the theater during a children's movie.
Two people started making out in front of me in eighth grade. It was kinda awkward, but I ignored it because I was ecstatic about sitting next to my crush. Then the lights came on after. THEY WERE MY CLASSMATES.
I went to see the 2018 Halloween movie for my birthday and my seat was next to a group of women. When the movie started to play, they started calling people at full volume and brightness, yelling at the screen and taking FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY. I could barely see or hear the movie
I used to love going to the cinema. Back in the day I could buy a ticket to watch a film and because it was only a small cinema (two screens?), it wouldn't be playing the same film, it would play different films; so, one ticket meant you could sit and watch at least three odd different films. Also, because it was small and not frequented much, my age didn't matter, they just wanted revenue, therefore they turned a blind eye (I was early teens). I now longer go, pretty much for all the reasons above, except I don't think I witnessed any sexual conduct going on. Also, being aspergic, I miss a lot of what is going on (didn't bother me when I was young, but then I didn’t realise I was aspergic back then). Also, I would want to stop the film, maybe rewind etc, but I'm sure that would be frowned upon by others! These days it can take me up to a week to watch a film, by watching in instalments. Unless I’m watching with my wife as she explains everything to me as it goes along.
I watched “la vie d’Adele” in an art house cinema. I knew it was going to be a love story between two women, but that 15 minutes long sex scene was still a bit unexpected and uncomfortable. Everybody in the audience started to look around and didn’t really know how to react. Even the 20-something guys in the row in front of me started to get nervous in their chairs 😀
Buy a projector, best investment ever. Always thought going to the cinema was a rip-off anyway.
I feel rather lucky after reading about all these experiences, however I will always remember the couple that seated their 3 young daughters behind me and left to another lane as they didn't want to deal with their kicks and singing... I honestly don't understand why parents bring young kids to the cinema as they barely understand what's going on and cause more trouble than it's worth. I remember my first trip to the theater was when I was 13 and I went with my father and sister to watch the 3rd Harry Potter movie. We were probably some of the quietest bunch in there as I was mesmerized by the huge screen *.*
I'm not admitting to being a part of this but some younger teens used to sit in the balcony at a movie theater (remember them?) where they would make retching sounds and dump vegetable soup on the unsuspecting below and they had the worst experience.
I wasn't at the movie theater, so I'm not submitting it, but their was a bomb threat at my local movie theater. Some person threatened that their was a bomb, which ended up meaning the move theater was shut down for the next couple of hours. And a lot of people we in the middle of a movie, and they couldn't just restart it. And the movie where the bomb threat was, was the last 30 minutes of Endgame, which is a very, very long movie.
