My brother felt useless for his entire life. He often questioned why he'd even been born. When he died unexpectedly at 33, we donated his organs. In the US, after a certain amount of time, donor families and recipients can arrange to meet. The lady who got my brother's liver was a health food addict. She hated processed stuff. After her operation, she awoke craving a hot dog, which was one of my brother's favorite foods.... The man who got my brother's heart and lungs told us his only goal in life had been to live to see his son graduate high school. His voice broke as he said, "And now I get to play with my grandchildren." ... Those were the only two that contacted us, but both had twenty extra years of life.

Everyone needs to sign up to be an organ donner (unless you have in illness or something that stops you from doing it), your dead, your organs arn't gonna do anything for you anymore, give em to someone who needs them.

In France, you are by default an organ donor and need to sign out. They changed the law years ago. In practice, it is more complicated than that, but I think it it is a good law.

My mom died in the United States and was an organ donor. Because of the way she died many of her organs failed and we were very sad thinking that would exclude her. We got a letter explaining she had been a skin and cornea donor and it was a really lovely surprise.

Here in Aus becoming a donor is 'optin' - since we benefit from social health I personally believe everyone should be on the donor list with the option to 'opt out' - generally, only those with strong objections (for any reason at all) will got to the 'bother' to opt out.

My sister was denied being an organ donor after death due to her history and cause of death. This was June of 2021 when she passed. I still get a letter/ card every holiday from the arkansas chapter of aurora thanking me for at least trying. They are very kind and considerate.

this photo is done with a light inside the igloo. There is a scarcity of wood in the arctic (no trees) so a 'fire' is misleading. The Inuit would use qulliq which was blubber fueled and both a lamp and mini stove (most foods not being cooked [see scarcity of wood])

This reminds me of when I was a support worker for adults with severe disabilities and a bank rang asking to speak to one of the clients I kept trying to tell them that she doesn't have the capacity to answer questions and they need to ring her family member who manages her account on her behalf but they were having none of it so I put her on for a minute and they soon got the message after being told gobbledegook.

I am an interpreter. I have heard countless stories from Deaf people about how the hearing person on the other end of the phone could not fathom speaking through an interpreter and saying "no, I need their verbal confirmation". This is a violation of the ADA by the way.

Folks don't often realize just what part of the plant you're eating. Celery stalks, for example, aren't stems but thickened petioles, the little stalks that attach the leaves to the stalk. Onion layers are actually modified leaves.

That works on many different veggies. There is also quite a few molds to choose from. I like using small molds on tomatoes because they grow so fast. You could have a full bowl of molded tomatoes.

I've read several statements of fireman who said they go out of their way to cause as much damage as possible. Just because they can and because this behaviour could cost lives by hindering rescues and help. Many insurance don't pay if you block emergency services and they demolished your car. My sister was a firewoman. She once told me how they completely destroyed a Porsche that was blocking a fire lane and they had an emergency call. The fire truck rammed it out of the way, and then they crashed all windows to get their equipment through and the firemen walked over it. The owner didn't get one cent from his insurance and the fire department didn't pay either. And he got an expensive ticket on top for blocking the emergency access.

Lies. The fading of tattoos starts from within the body. Your own immune system sends out macrophages that absorb the ink. So it would never look better under a different layer of skin

But…. I don’t think skin grows like that, does it?? You scrap your knee and it just gets pink and raw. It doesn’t reveal more normal skin. Their isn’t another layer of preserved skin because new skin wouldn’t grow over like that in most cases. Right? Am I even explaining what I mean correctly?

I mean, skin has layers, so what tattoo artists do is that they tattoo it REAL deep, so it's always kinda there, but since skin dies and layers and stuff, the tattoo fades since it wasn't on the original skin. But since it's always there on a deep layer of skin, ig that's why, sorry if I'm speaking rubbish btw

Digital camera, not film. The sensor is scanned top-to-bottom and it takes a fraction of a second to do so. That fraction of a second is significant, as it can pick up the blink of an eye. In this case the camera is oriented in portrait fashion, so it is left-to-right.

I kind of remember that we had math 1 and math 2 along with "Bauingenieure" (civil engineer in US english, maybe all english), and that they, basically, calculate similar things to us (Maschinenbau - mechanical engineering) to ... prevent ... this.

A former boss of mine used to work as a blacksmith, making swords, spears etc. Once he loaded is hatchback full of weapons and drove across the country for a delivery to a medival festival. When he arrived, one guy asked him "what would happen if you hit the breaks hard?". He turn around and realize he have placed the stack of weapons with the danger-end facing the front and no straps that would keep them from impaling him.

Could be after Sauna, many Finns or Estonians will jump into cold water or fresh snow after the heat of a sauna - it both stops the sweat and the shock releases endorphins, so it feels great. (and trust me it actually does, it's refreshing, too, I was made to do it by my wife the first time I visited her over winter in Finland going way back. Now its just something we do when we're there xD)

As a roadie, I've seen some stupid human tricks. Worst? Trailers loaded with the weight on the end instead of the hitch. For the love of sanity, please sort the heaviest gear close to the hitch. Otherwise, It's like playing crack the whip... one swerve and ziiiiiiiing! Your gear is unraveling all over the road. Tie it down. Then tie it down again. Then, drive 5 miles and check. your. tie downs.

I bet the person didn't even stop. I was driving with the top down in a little convertible on the highway and was behind a pickup truck that had a bunch of sheet glass in the bed just on their side and unsecured. Final Destination stuff started going through my mind so I noped it into the next lane. As soon as I did, the truck hit a pothole and a bunch of the glass bounced out and shattered on the road behind him, exactly where I would have been with the top down. Dude did not even hit the brakes and kept going.

I was on interstate when a pickup with a large wooden crate was in front of me. All of a sudden the whole lid flew off the truck. I was luckily able to swerve into the next lane since it was empty. Dont like to think what could of happen.

Regular day In Kolkata, Delhi, etc. Pedestrians here don't recognize the pedestrian-specific streetlights, they try to cross the road when the green signal for vehicles is turned on, and if reprimanded, clap back at you with something nasty. Their pet peeve is ' Apnar ki?Apnar baap er rasta?/ Apka kya hain? Aapke baap ka rasta hain?( Bengali and Hindi respectively for " Why are you bothered? is the road your father's property?'). Also people sometimes gas it on a red light, and the traffic police does...nothing...literally nothing. And don't get me started on the drivers who think they can put a bus through a road clearly marked as " Buses and trucks not allowed."...

Had to do a little research, but it looks like this happened on February 2nd, 2017. What I can't figure out is how badly do you need to go down that particular road that you don't turn right onto the clear roads and just make your way around the problem? I looked the area up on Google maps - there are plenty of side streets and ways around this mess. As a point of interest, I recommend looking up the intersection (Avenida Faria Lima and Avenida Juscelino Kubitschek) on Google maps and looking at the "Satellite view" - there is something fun to see in the image.

This happened to my neighbor's car about 3 times in a one month period. Of course, she had to blame everybody & anything else, never herself. When she would leave her windows open & it started snowing, she was the kind of person that we would not tell her about it.

I also call BS - there was furlough paying 80% of wages, there was work from home, and covid payments to self isolate. Also we were told to wear masks and to social distance. This picture was taken March 18th 2020. Legally enforced 'stay at home' was not introduced until March 23rd 2020. Someone is using this to politicise, and I feel that is very wrong.

Dad never said I was responsible for oil changes and it never occurred to me that I should make sure it always had fluids. 17 years old in 1989 - before auto stuff became more gender neutral. Car barely made it home from college and never. moved. again. Ugh.
