What Do You Do For A Living Vs What Would You Do If Money Was No Object?
Hey pandas, I read your comments every day, but I barely know you. Amanda Panda leaves the funniest comments, Yvonne Bernal adds brilliant insights and additional info, and Hans never misses an opportunity to tell us what is wrong with each post. So let's break the ice by answering this simple question. What do you do for a living vs what would you do if money was no object?

I'm the founder of Bored Panda, and I work as a chief editor. If money was no object, or I had lots of spare time I would create music. I've already been experimenting with FL Studio, and even bought a piano. I've created a couple of pieces on both, but I'd probably need a tutor to make something more advanced.
I'm glad you founded Bored Panda. EVERY morning without fail, I have my morning coffee and come here to read (and comment). Mornings without BP are like no morning at all <3
I'm working in the translation and localisation department for a video game company. Which kinda makes me proud because I love video games, and because when I look back at the times I was in mid. school some people telling me "games will give you no bread"... Bwahahahahha. Anyway, if I could, I'd devote my life to creating comic series, like, you know, the Japanese "mangaka" do. And I'd love to try some animation film directing as well. And voice acting too.
You can do it and you will. I know it because you're so far achieved a lot. Big kiss from your big sister.
I'd find that little rascal Waldo. Then I'd donate all my time to travel and help others. You truly learn most about yourself when you meet other people. Assisting animals would also be a high priority. I'm a big advocate for treating animals properly.
My husband and I have long had a dream of building a sort of halfway house with a farm for the poor and homeless. The farm would provide some of the food needed to run the facility. Homeless residents could work the farm while receiving career training and assistance. We had ideas such as homework assistance for resident children and an after-school program for local children who weren't homeless.
I would start up a foundation helping children in foster care get the help they need, especially neglected children suffering with severe attachment disorders as these are often overlooked. I would also adopt many many many dogs who needed homes.
I wish there were more people like you. It amazes me how easy it is to have a child and give a child away, and how hard it is to adopt one. There are so many good parents out there, who sadly cannot adopt for prejudices in society (same sex couples, single parents, etc). One parent's love is better than nothing but the system.
I would become a carpenter, open my woodworking shop and make incredibly symmetric furniture for OCD people.
As corny as this is going to sound, if money were no object, I would travel the world, not only to see gorgeous sites, but I've always wanted to visit children's hospitals, and make terminally ill kids laugh. Kind of a female version of Patch Adams if you will. Laughter is a Universal Language, and with all the pain in life and in the news these days, kids (and people) need to see the good, the fun, the humor, too.
I would work on discovering time travel. Or inter-dimensional travel. (because i'm only 13) Or also i would go to college to be an Oncologist.
I'm an elementary school teacher and if money was no object I would found a non-profit animal rescue such as Happy Animals Club, Animal Aid Unlimited or Hope for Paws. Ideally in every country of the world.
When I see an animal suffer, it breaks my heart.
I would work for Nasa, because that's always been my dream, regardless of money or not.
The same thing that I'm desperately trying to do when money is an object: be a landlord. I know that doesn't sound like something earth-shattering. Rent people places to live, not that hard. But I want to create community. In the States, rental prices are extremely high (averaging a little more than half of people's incomes) and the quality of the homes renters get in exchange for that cost is... not always the best. I want to create spaces that support and connect people, that help them grow.
I would be an ornithologist. I love watching birds more than anything. I've already saved an injured baby sparrow once. I'd also help homeless animals, children and elderly people.
Right now, I'm a freshman in high school. If I can, I want to get a degree in Psychology and use that to help reform and improve institutions like schools, businesses, foster care systems, etc.
That would be amazing if psychology merged with educational/business institutions. I was diagnosed with Bipolar and ADD at 17, and unfortunately schools aren't educated on how to deal with mentally ill children. In fact we get punished, sent out in the hall, detention, yelled at in front of the class. This translates into adult hood when one minute you are crushing projects and deadlines, and the next you struggle to even get out of bed. I wish there were more people like you!
I'm currently an engineering student. After graduating, I would go work and gain experience for a decade or so, and then quit to do several things.
1) Mentor high school students who are interested in STEM. I would want to sponsor projects, tutor, and teach some engineering skills.
2) Learn to machine, weld, woodwork, and some other skills. I'd have a variety of projects to work on. Some personal, some for my family, and some to benefit those in need.
I'm only 13 but my dream is to graduate college and my major would be theatre and become an actress on broadway OR become a CEO of an event planning company
Wow, you sound like such an incredible, and creative person! Keep working at it, and someday I'm sure you'll get there
I would travel the world, immerse myself in the diverse cultures across the globe learn new languages and fall in love time after time.
With money in mind, I'd like to be a vet surgeon.
If money was no object, I'd still want to be a vet surgeon. I'd also spend a good portion both travelling the world to improve the lives of animals everywhere and volunteering my time at the hardworking animal shelters around my own country.
Either way, the well-being of animals is - and will always be - my main focus.
Well, I don't know if such a thing exists, but I know a "Doctor's Without Borders" certainly does, but I would love to institute something like "Vets without borders" to advocate for those who cannot speak - the animals. Some of the posts I see on this site in places like Venezuela, and third world countries are absolutely heartbreaking. I'd also like to set up safe havens for LBTQ people in countries where being different is "criminal".
I would go to my school of choice, and then art university, I want to learn how to inspire people to make a change through art
I`m 14 and I would work as a conservationist and a field zoologist even if money was no object. If I could I would also have a small reserve and zoo for endangered species. But first I would travel around the world with my pets (degus and in a few months a corgi) in order to educate people on the importance of saving endangered species and their habitats. Then I would return to manage the organisation I had created and develop the protection of endangered species in Bulgaria to a higher level.
I would learn at least 3 languages and live in the countries that speak them for at least a year while volunteering. I'd also love to go back to university to get an interior design degree and then live by remaking people's homes.
If money was no object... I would devote my life to helping animals. From big to small... neglected to health... young and old XD
I would go tarveling and teaching in less fortunate countries
I used to tarvel a lot but fortunately it stopped when I had my kindeys taken out. :D
I'm a married mother of two, an interpreter, college student after work... If money would be no object, I would buy time. More time to spend it with my kids, my husband, my familiy, and surely there will be some time to spend on more altruistic goals, like you guys have...
I'm only 13 But if I could choose a ''job'' then that would be to travel the world. The thought of being on this planet without seing everything on it just sounds ridiculous... Or maybe I would scuba dive to search for different, unknown specimens. I would like to see everything on this world before I die. :)
So, you want to see the world above ground, AND below. Sounds amazing! :)
I'm a business analyst of sort. I love my job. But if money was no object, I would write a book. Short stories first, then maybe a novel. There is nothing more powerful than a book. A little bit of ink on some paper (or a few pixels) can capture the human mind through our imagination. Making people laugh or cry in a world build from scratch, I imagine it is the best thing in the world.
Who's stopping you? If I was you, on my free time I'd just take and write whatever is on my mind. There is no need preparation for writing, you just need to sit and write. :) Good luck and make your wish come true!
I am an English teacher in my first job, and an administrative assistant in a highschool in my second job. Only the first one is paid and barely half-time. If money wasn't a concern I would like to open a public art academy for everyone to discover their artistic talents, this is actually something I was asked some years ago. I would also definitely learn many different painting, drawing and carving techniques, but that's something I'm already working on.
I would quit my job in PR/Communications consulting. I’d love to travel the world, live in the most beautiful and natural places that mother earth us. I’d live among cultures and people, meditate and learn how to live a more balanced and peaceful life. Then I’d return, open up a B&B somewhere on the California coast where it’s nice and warm yet cool, cook healthy and delicious meals for my B&B guests, and offer mindfulness and meditation classes to help others live a more peaceful life.
I'm going to school to be a pediatrician. If money was no object, I would learn as many languages as I could and travel the world with my family to make friends around the world.
I make art with coffee! I'd like to be a millionaire that makes art with coffee but alas I'm flat broke with little money and I continue to make art with coffee.
I would work on all my random projects (metal foundries, etc) :o)
I want to build a metal foundry but Im not allowed to yet since my parents say its dangerous(which it is). Maybe when I can afford it and safety gear.
There's so much I want to do in life, like singing/songwriting, character design, comics, voice acting, sculpture, and quite a few other things! Honestly I couldn't choose one, but if I could learn them all that would be amazing for me.
I would study Astrophysics! Im only 14 but I can start early. I also want to understand the universe and all of it mysterious parts.
I am a social media marketing manager, if money was no object I would make films. There are so many amazing people in the world and they have the most amazing stories. I love telling stories and I would travel the world doing so.
I am a dreamer, so I've got a lot in my mind what would I want to do. Now, as I am seventeen, I would like to travel, have epic adventures, take photographs and write science-based blog about cultures, progress and influence of technology, people lives for National Geographic or something like that. But my wishes change really quickly, ugh!
I'm an online marketing specialist. If money wasn't an issue I'd travel the world and learn about different cultures. I'd also improve my drawing skills.
Graphic designer by trade, and I love what I do. But if money were no objet, I would do more illustrations and drawings. More specifically I would love to illustrate children's books.
I design solar arrays for people's homes currently but I would love to home school my daughters with my wife in an RV and instead of learning from books, I would want to go experience the material. You want to learn about the President, let's go to DC...dolphins? Florida Keys it is!
I would start a non profit organization to address the issue of unaccompanied minor refugee children.
I would travel. I've always wanted to go to interesting islands and countries. Right now I guess the map by my bed is enough...
If money was no issue... I'd probably go to university (after I graduate highschool) and get a degree in law, the study of genetics (I dunno what that's called...lol) and ecology, so that I have several options for a career. After working in my chosen field for about 5years, I'd take my father to Thailand, and my mother to France. Then I'd travel around my home country, Australia, and continue in my work.
I'd also adopt about 2 dogs, 2 Siamese cats, and several guinea pigs.
I'm a builder, have been since I left school. But if I could, I would be an actor 100%. It's my real passion, there's just no guarantee it can support a family...
If money was absolutely no object I would travel the world and go to as many libraries and gain as much experience as I could to expand my knowledge so that maybe I could help prevent violence with my newfound knowledge. But I suppose I would first have to learn to read a lot of different languages ;D
I am a bored and broke student. If I had money I would go on a quest to discover the best roller coasters. Then I'd buy my own amusement park and live in it.
I am a data entry clerk but I would build homes to shelter homeless veterans and have a food pantry available to anyone in need. I would help single working parents purchase vehicles and I would provide free animal veterinary services to elderly or disabled people for their pets. And last I would adopt unwanted children and provide them with a loving home and limitless education to provide for their futures.
I'm a full time student and struggles a lot with anxiety and depression. If money wasn't a problem I would become the best owner for my dogs that I've always dreamed to be.
I would get a music scholarship in Colorado and then become either a Musician or an Environmental Scientist.
I would draw, paint, and take pictures of beautiful places. Mountains, oceans, wildlife... I'd do it all.
I (plan to) run a small-medium scaled agritourism farm. With or without money, that's been my dream my whole life!
With money though, I'd love to expand my business ideas towards more non-profit/impossible to make profit from areas. Mainly, having a completely funded science lab or similar project for under privileged students / students without access(like homeschoolers).
i would build my underground supermarket and keep it a secret for everybody else.
It's not about being rich, but how the obligation of producing money in order to pay the rent and bring food home drives us to take a job. But most of the time, and I say this according to what I have seen and lived, those jobs are not in harmony with our dreams and expectations. I understand many people have the blessing of having a job they love, but that's not everyone's blesing. So, a private supermarket? Hmmm it reminded me of Fallout.
I've read through most of what has been added up until this point, and I have to say, the most common thread here is people wanting to help others, help animals, and help shape the world into something more positive. What's disheartening, is that funding is what is stopping most (if not all) of us from making such amazing changes. Upvotes for all!
I would pursue my career in Art Conservation&Restoration, which I gave up to support my family as a single mother, working in totally unrelated positions...
